WebDAV Web Folder
Hi, I set up WebDAV directory on Server 2003 without any problems using Basic
Authentication
http://voronov.co.uk/WebDAV
User Name: TEST
Password: 123456
When I type http://voronov.co.uk/WebDAV in Internet Explorer address bar I
prompted for password. Page dispayes after I enter correct user name and
password provided above. Account TEST has read only permissions.
Howeever when I go to File menu, Open..., check Open as Web Folder and enter
the same http://voronov.co.uk/WebDAV address I prompted for user name and
password again. No matter which account I try to enter including
Administrator, I wont let in. Why is that? I would like to copy files to my
Web Folder using another account with Write Permissions
Account TEST set up allow log on locally and access from network. I do not
experience this problem on IIS Server. Accounts auditing is enabled but no
any deny logs in there. Tag: "Out of stack space" error Tag: 347488
Behavior of Date/Time Format Differs When Accessed from Active Ser
Hi folks,
Our problem is that the behavior of Date/Time Format Differs When Accessed
from Active Server Pages. For example our regional settings are dd/MM/yyyy
but when an ASP page is accessed it writes the date as MM/dd/yyyy. We found
an article on the Microsoft website and followed the instructions as you can
see here, http://www.barrowvale.com/IIS5DateTimeDiffers/. It still hasn't
solved the problem though.
Has anybody any ideas?

integrated windows security requests user name and password...
Hi all
I'm trying to set iis 6.0 on a w2k3 server.
My test site's security is anonimous access + integrated windows.
I have also granted the iis anonimous user account, credentials on the
site's ntfs directory.
After this i am still being asked to enter windows user name and password..
Any idea why??
Also i am getting the 'you are not authorized to view this page...' security
error (401),
when i change the ip in the site's url from 127.0.0.1 to it's network one.
This problem appears only localy on the iis server however.
Thanks for your attention

How to run IISRESET for IIS6 without local admin privileges
Howdy,
Given the concerns of our senior engineer, only
members of the systems group are added to the local
administrators/domain admins group on our web servers.
However, members of other groups still need to have the
ability to restart IIS services via IISRESET using their
domain logins. Using RUNAS is not an option as we do not
want to give local admin privileges in ANY FORM to anyone
outside the systems team. With this restriction, the
task of determining the minimum account
policies/permissions necessary to run IISRESET besides
granting local admin privileges has been assigned to me.
I've spent hours upon hours scouring MS sites attempting
to find this information with no luck.
Is there any configuration of group policy objects/file
permissions which will allow a user to successfully run
IISRESET against a remote server without granting local
admin privileges or giving out/hard-coding the password
of a local admin in a script/runas scenerio?
Thanks,

2003 FTP with IIS
Guys,
I setup an FTP server inside of IIS. It works great on the network. I can
test by looking to the local server and try my accounts and everything is
great. I try it offsite and I get a error that says you may not have
permission to access these files. I have tried everything. I have rebuilt
the FTP several times. I have tried different FTP clients. I did find one
article that says something about log on locally but one of the accounts
that I am testing with is the domain admin and also in the administrators
group. I can see in the logs that an account login was attempted but
denied. I have set the router up to open the DMZ and proved that it is not
a firewall issue.
Next thing I did is VPN in and then go in remotely across the VPN and it
works great. Has anyone got any idea what is going on. Is it a log on
locally problem? If so how do I get past this. Thanks,

*IISLogs Lite version (Free component) available
Hi All,
IISLogs has released a free version of IISLogs log archive tool. This is
similar (not as many features as full version IISLogs) but will monitor a
specific directory, optionally delete the original log file, email
reporting, alternative file location for zipped files and more. The same
logic and components are used to compress files that are used in the full
version of IISLogs. Start shrinking those pesky IIS Log files. Note: This
can be used in production environment. Any questions let us know..

Multiple Domains on single server?
I would like to host multiple domains on our w2003 server. We already host
one site. We have a router and a firewall, and ip translation where the
outside ip points to the servers ip port 80 on the inside. This works, but
how do I translate the new domain so that it "lands" in the correct iis
site?
We have some free outside ip's if this helps.

Missing Applicaiton Pool Setting in IIS manager

Frontpage Extensions Issue

IIS Deny Domain Access
I have a current requirement to deny access to a particular website from a
list of domains. I can add these domains to a deny list in IIS, however that
doesn't give me the ability detect these domains and then redirect users to
specific deny pages based on the domains to which they are members.
I can include a function on all of my webpages to detect the various domains
and redirect users, however this would be a very tedious process since I
would have to include this domain validation function on all pages.
I need to find a better more efficient way of doing this, so any suggestions
are welcome... Tag: "Out of stack space" error Tag: 347443
Default Web Site Disappeared from IIS 5.1
In IIS 5.1, running Windows XP Pro...
..my default website disappeared from IIS Manager. I see nothing in the
"Web Sites" Folder.
I can still browse the website through the local host. I can still open my
local web application with visual studio .NET. I can also still restart the
web publishing service, through the "Services" manager, but not through IIS.
This happened a couple days ago, and "they" took away my administrative
rights on my local machine like a month ago, my account has since been in the
Debugger Users group. That is the only thing that I can think of that
actually changed on my machine, but I wouldn't think that would matter. Any
suggestions or advice?

Access to cmd shell thru asp-security question
Hi,
We have need to run server based .vbs files and other OS commands through
active server pages i.e...
Set oShell = Server.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
oShell.Run("c:\somecmd.bat",,True)
Under Windows 2000 the EVERYONE group had read/execute rights against
cmd.exe. Under 2003 this has been removed and in order to get my .asp file
to execute the cmd shell I must grant the IUSR acct read/execute access to
cmd.exe on the web server.
Is there a better approach or "best practice" to properly secure my web
server and still be able to shell out to cmd.exe from asp?

Novice seeking help re DCOM

"An error occurred while processing the last operation,

In the Event Viewer, looking at the COM+ line, I see this:
"The run-time environment was unable to initialize for transactions

Boolean problem with IIS ASP
My recent system is WinXp SP2 and IIS 5.1 using the french canadian language
The following code don't work anymore in ASP (it was working fine with
win95 and PWS of Frontpage98)
sql = "UPDATE MyBase SET "
sql = sql & "Show= " & True
I found that he sql sent to the ODBC database is :
Update MyBase Set Show = Vrai
instead of the expected :
Update MyBase Set Show = True
The IIS ASP interpreter translate the Boolean value True in his french
equivalent Vrai , and the resulting string is not recognise by my Access
database who expected the True value.

w3wp.exe keeps crashing
Hi there,
I have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server, with all lates patches that keeps
crashing every hour or so, resulting in all sessions to be lost, so all my
thousands of users have to login again.
And offcourse, this is annoying.
Wheneven this happens, I get this error in my eventlog :
"Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.0, faulting module unknown,
version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."
I think this error has been much, much more frequent since I patched the
server on the 13th of october 2004, when Microsoft released a bunch of new
patches.
Can anyone help us - we have tried solving the problem for days now, - I
have tried the IISState utility to log the crashes and I have posted on of
my IISstate logfiles a few days ago in this same group, as I dont have the
experience to read such logfiles.
Anyone - please help me ...

shortcuts all lead to new windows being opened
please forgive if i've posted in the wrong area. over the last couple of
weeks, i seem to have turned on some feature that opens a new internet
explorer 6.0 window every time i link from a shortcut in my email or a link
embedded in a web page (even the ones that aren't supposed to open new pages
on purpose). i've already tried unchecking and rechecking the box in
internet options that says to reuse windows for shortcuts (or something like
that) but it isn't working. i'm open to any ideas! it's getting a little
bothersome on a laptop with no mouse closing the zillions of windows and i'm
losing my ability to go forward and backward through my pages visited due to
this. thanks so much! Tag: "Out of stack space" error Tag: 347382
IIS6 + ASP.NET : Performance Problems
In the past days, i have programmed a complete site using asp.net .
I put it on my server and most worked like expected. After correcting the
last erros, i mentioned tha every time, when the site unvisted for some
minutes, it takes lot of until the site is loaded.
When i click several links in a short time, everything works fine - and if i
pause 10 minutes, the first loading lasts nearly 20 second. During thing 20
seconds, the cpu usage of the server is relativ high.
Is the server compiling the asp.net pages every time ?
And how can i prevent him from doing this ?

How to use link transalation for 'web folders'
We make extensive use of ISA 'link translation' to hide multiple IIS servers
behind a single external URL (simplifies access and cuts down on SSL cert
costs).
This works fine when accessing folders on an internal server using a
'simple' URL.
eg
https://external.domain.com/staff maps to http://internal.domain.com/staff
and link translations correctly changes the URLs sent back to the client.
Everthing works fine and you can drill down to sub-folders, open doc etc
etc.
However problems occur when we try to open a folder using the 'web folders'
system (ie the one that displays nice icons in IE). If you try to do an
'Open as web folder' on https://external.domain.com/staff the top-level
folder works just fine.....but if you try to drill down to anything
Subfolder or document) the link fails as the system is trying to open
https://internal.domain.com/staff/sub-folder which is not accessable over
the internet.
Is this a known issue with web folders? It seems as though the ISA link
translation is not managing to translate the links that are encapsulated in
the 'web folders' (in my limited understanding of the process).
Anyone come up with a way to make this work?

Can I create http://mytoolsite for my intranet app?
Hi,
I have a small ASP.NET-based tool running on an intranet site. Currently
people access my site like http://mycomputername/mytool. I want to eliminate
the "mycomputername" part to make the site URL http://mytool , but don't
know how to do it. When I create a virtual directory, the computer name is
automatically included.
Can someone let me know how can do it? A good search keyword on Google would
also help a lot.

II6 Download Prompt Window
When you click on a download link you normally get the box that asks if you
want to open it or save it well I accidently clicked the little box that says
don't show this anymore and then whenever I clicked on a download it would
automatically save it to a temp folder. I went into the security settings and
changed it back so it prompts me when I download something but there is still
one site where it doesn't bring up that box and automatically saves it to a
temp folder. Does anyone know what I have to do to get it so every download
link brings up that prompt asking me what to do with it? Thanks Tag: "Out of stack space" error Tag: 347347
process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' suffered a fatal communication...
I hope someone has figured this one out. I've tried everything that I can
find.
Here's my setup:
Win2k3 server
IIS6
asp.net 1.1
VS.net 2k3
The error:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: W3SVC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1011
Date: 10/16/2004
Time: 11:40:30 AM
User: N/A
Computer: IRIE
Description:
A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' suffered a fatal
communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process
id was '592'. The data field contains the error number.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 6d 00 07 80 m..?
This error is written to the event log when attempting to create a new
asp.net application in VS.net 2k3. I upgraded to asp.net 2.0 Beta and the
issue was resolved except then I couldn't debug my new project. So I
uninstalled all versions of asp.net, IIS and VS.net 2k3. Then I reinstalled
them is this order... IIS, asp.net 1.1, VS.net 2k3. Now I'm back to the
original error above. When attempting to create a new asp.net web project,
VS.net hangs and I find the above error in the event logs.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Application Pool and Isolation Process
Hi,
When I use windows 2000 server and IIS 5, only one instance of application
can be run.
Now, I installed 6 web applications on IIS 6 of windows 2003 server standard
edition, the websites do properly run and the relevant application pools were
created. However, I do not know how to configure the application pool in
order to let them run at the same time.
I set the workers under performance to be 10. However, some applications
cannot be run properly in the first time of running, it takes several times
and they can run properly.
So, any online reference for setting application pool?

But I need the users name from the database too...which I can get from

need the info from (the correct table) in the database.
Thanks.

File download performance issue
Hi!
I've tried installing several online forums/communities at my server running
IIS 6 on 2003 web edition. The problem I have is that when the forum
(php-based) rename the file extensions (.ipb instead of .wmv, or .attach for
the same extension in another forum) performance seems to drop. First I
thought it was a mime issue, but changed that and it didn't make any diff.
The difference between the same file can be: 100KB/s instead of 650KB/s.
Several times I've added two posts in a forum, one containing a url to the
file and the other using the forum attachement feature (POST feature in php,
file renamed to .attach, forum then rename the file correctly when requested
for). The result is that I've always had at least 300% better performance
when not using the .attach file - i.e. using the file that's not been renamed
by the forum.
My best guess was Mime, but it didn't do any good.
Any suggestions? Anyone else using php-forums out there? :)

I am working on asp.net application,

on my local server i am getting ".net error" of "page not found "
but on my hosting server I am not getting .net error ...I am getting the

what could be the reason ?
is it that the hosting service has redirected the page and before it reaches
