I'm no expert in all the ins and outs of AD and IIS but it somewhat
depends on the application I would say. I know I've load balanced an
IIS 6 box using WLBS across 5 servers and we weren't using active
directory. But the application made no use of any windows accounts,
it was all application based logons served from a database. I also
used a Citrix Netscaler to load balance between 3 IIS 6 boxes but they
weren't hosting an end-user application, just marketing fluff.

To give a better response I would say you need to describe your
application in more detail.
