    - IIS on 2003 ASP.NET configuration issues I have moved my server from win2000 to win 2003. A small ASP.NET page that ran fine on 2000. Now on 2003 I can not get it to execute. If I go in and exectuer permisions are set to none, I get HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. Setting the permissiong ot script only produces HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. I have a default.aspx in the directory, I have default.aspx as default document type. (and it fails if the default.aspx is epxplicitly specified) creating clicking the Create button to create and application has no different effect. At one point with my poking around to try and figure this out I did start getting a 403.2 error, but I have not been able to replicate that. Suggestions? Tag: reinstall question Tag: 383413

    - Web forms reports Thanks to every one who help in this issue: i have integrated a web report in an asp.net 2 page. it is working properly in my pc which has iis 5 and win XP but in my server it throws an error telling me the Reporting Assemblies cannot be load. i looked at assemblies installed in my server and all assemblies related to reporting are installed and it is same version as in my pc. the server is win 2003 you can see the error here: http://www.intellisoft.homeip.net/ thanks Tag: reinstall question Tag: 383412

    - IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions Button is Greyed out - Help I just re-installed XP Pro SP2 (Total wipe and install) on my computer and after installing IIS the IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions button in Directory Security is greyed out. The only IP allowed access to the server is 127.0.0.1 my own computer. Before the re-install all computers on my network had access to the server. The original install was done using an XP Disk without SP2 and I did the updates from the web. This time I used an XP Disk with SP2 to save time on the updates.     - WebDav access restrictions Hi, I am trying to Implement WebDav for specific users on IIS6 I enabled Webdav for a virtual folder, and tested that it was working both from the LAN and from outside the DMZ using "net use * http://domain.com/folder" This all worked fine, except all visitors have full access to the folder. I then disabled anonymous access, enabled "basic authentication" and tried connecting again. This time it asked for a username and password. "perfect" I think, and typed in a domain users username/password. It comes up with "error 5 - access denied". I tried all sorts of combinations of users, even the domain admin. Everyone gets access denied. What am I missing ? I set up the NTFS permissions on the folder to allow the specific users the access they require, but everybody gets the "access denied".     - IIS 5.1 Documentation is broken. I can't read the IIS 5.1 documentation. The docs page opens fine with its default article but the TOC and the Index does not appear. All I see is a black or white area that gets a line around it when I move the mouse over it (due to that IE patch). Interestingly it appears fine under Firefox (this is really bad). I have tried putting it into Trusted Sites with no luck.     - Cookies ID Environment: WINXP, IIS5.1 I have created 3 virtual directories 1. WebMenu 2. WebA 3. Web WebA contains a page "test.asp" > test.asp -- Response.cookies("testing") = "WebA testing" -- Web contains a page "test.asp" > test.asp -- Response.cookies("testing") = "Web testing" -- WebMenu contain a page "menu.asp" menu.asp -- response.write " ID - " & request.cookies("testing") <a href="javascript:win.open(http://XXX/Web/test.asp)> <a href="javascript:win.open(http://XXX/WebA/test.asp)> -- I open the menu.asp and click the link to WebA, Refresh the parent page , It shows "ID - ", it can not get the child cookies ID. I click the link to Web, Refresh the parent page , It shows "ID - Web testing ", it got the child cookies ID. I change the virtual directory name from "Web" to "BWeb". The parent windows can not get the session ID of the child windows anymore. Is it related to the name of virtual directory? bug?     - Help with IIS6 AppPool Crash and IISSTATE tool... At 9:30 last Thursday night, the AppPool for my main website began crashing. The Application log shows the crash but provides a completely useless error message. I tried using /AUXSOURCE (to open Event Viewer) as suggested, but did not receive any additional information. After some Googling, I found the IISSTATE tool and ran it on my webserver. I identified (through trial and error) how to reproduce the error consistently. By taking one action on my website, I see 4 CLR errors fly by on the IISSTATE output screen. By taking another specific action after that, I can kill the process. This forces IISSTATE to output a text file which is shown below. All of this is great...but the problem is that the one thing I'm really interested in -- what is causing the crash -- is blank! It seems to me that the "DLL (!FunctionName) that failed: " should be followed with some information that tells me what failed. But it is blank and doesn't offer any help...unless I'm reading it incorrectly. Can anyone correct my use of the IISSTATE tool or offer any suggestions on what else to try?     - iis 6 - smtp hi our company has a small (make that tiny) upload link (32kbps) and when the marketing guys start sending mail (with attachments) the upload drops to a crawl (if it isn't already). to alleviate this problem i plan to set up a local iis6 smtp at our proxy server - ie all outgoing email joins the same single queue and the job of sending is taken up by the server, staff don't have wait hours waiting for a send operation to finish. i have the following Qs. 1) is iis6 smtp robust enuf? can it handle large attachments? large queues (100s of email) ? 2) while the marketing guys are ok with this plan, they want/require a mechansim to 'see' in real-time, what emails are in queue and what have not been delivered. they have said that a listing such as a webpage with email fields [from, subject, datetime] would be enuf. can this be done? how so? appreciated any help and thanx riyaz Tag: reinstall question Tag: 383378

    - WMPlayer ActiveX Control - only fails when using IIS Hi, I'm slowly starting to lose my hair over this, so any help is appreciated. I have a XP Pro desktop machine connected to my stereo and uses it as a jukebox. I control it with my laptop using the WMPlayer-control via good old ASP-pages. There are no problems playing mp3s and wma from local drives, but when I try to access a web-radio the WMPlayer-object returns an error indicating that the file/stream can't be located. I've tried to reproduce this error in a vbs-file, but this works without any problems. I have a suspicion that restrictions might apply for the IIS internal IWAM_** user, but I haven't got a clue where to look.     - Intermittent problem - with IIS or dotnet or? We have a production web server with several dotnet apps open to the public. It's Windows 2003, all current service packs, Dotnet Framework 1.1 on the server. Occasionally, we have found one page a .aspx page - had the form tags moved around on it. We're not sure what caused it, but putting out the .aspx page and the dll file fixed the problem. Subsequently, we've had the app - a warranty card program - that writes data to a SQL database. At times, the app just quits working. We use some javascript to validate items on the form when the submit button is clicked. It then writes the fields to the database. The javascript always works, but at times it will not write anything to the database at all. We're not getting any messages in the event log, and the server itself is stable.     - sc-win32-status 6, sc-status 200 Hi. I have an application using a microsoft access database running on IIS 6, using asp.net 1.1. I frequently find in the log files, entries with an sc-status of 200, and a sc-win32-status of 6. "net helpmsg 6" tells me "invalid handle". These log entries coincide with client errors of "cannot find server or dns error". I have attempted placing this application on a sql server, but found that the same errors appear.     - Virtual Directory authentication Hello, i have a problem with my virtual directory on my W2k3 SP1. I installed a web server in the DMZ. There is the webpage locatet. I would like to add a virtual directory from a LAN ressource. I configured on the IIS a Domain Account (Only Domain User right) for the connection. The file list could be displayed. I tried to connect from a workstation, but the webpage could not be opened, an error 500 messages appears. Many tests later, i add a administator account and tried again - the website opened.     - PHP, IIS, Web Folders file upload problem: an error occurred copying some or all of the selected files When I try to drag-and-drop .php-files to my web folder (https://www.mysite.com/user/) I get the message: "an error occurred copying some or all of the selected files". I have no problems with other types of files (for example with .asp-files). I can rename and delete files also.     - mail redirect hi i want to write a middle-tier mail processing server. users send mail to @myserver.com, but real msgs will arrive to @gmail.com or whatever. is there an option to REDIRECT a message i receive, after i process it, to the server, instead of FORWARDING it? the reason i need this is to keep the original "To" field in the message. i know i can spoof the "To" field using a different RCPT TO address than the one in the mail's header - but most mail systems see this as spam (gmail for instance). ideas? thanks.     - IIS and ISCSI Hi, I want to start with describing the problem. We have an web farm consisting of 4 web servers whit 2 DC/File server's which use an I SCSI cluster for data storage. We seem to have a problem a) Sometimes the share stops responding on the Web server and results in an IIS hang until the share is available again. This issue is due for a few seconds but lasts long enough to let it be noticed. Also this issue only occurs one in 3 or 4 weeks but on all web servers. Th strange part is that this hang is a chain first server 1 and it restores itself then follows server 2 and so on.     - Serving Trusted Root Master Certificates using IIS 6 We are using CertSrv to create certificates for multiple secure sites. This works great, except when logging in from outside (Internet), there is no path to the Certificate Authority (behind the scenes IE is trying all the usual suspects). Hence one get a message box stating that the Cert is OK, the site is fine, but the Cert is from an untrusted authority. The solution to this is to allow the user to download the master certificate from the authority (us) and install it in the Trusted Root Certificates folder. However, due to the new security features of IIS 6, the certificate cannot be opened or saved unless a Web Service Extension is created that allows the *.cer to be executed or downloaded. I've searched the MS support and chat sites diligently, but have yet to discover what Web service Extension to create and Enable so that we can serve the Master Certificate to the user. I suspect we could do a work-around and email the Master Cert, but it would be slick to allow the user to open it, and import it directly into IE. Can anybody provide this info? I am running an ASP.NET application (basically a RSS aggregator) On the local machine this app works like a breeze. A mail is sent to "user@myserver.com, user@server2.com". i want to forward the message to "user@server3.com" but to spoof the DISPLAYED to field so he sees "user@myserver.com, u...@server2.com" (like the original message). nothing hacky, i just want to preserve the original message. Been searching for a while & I understood that i can do this using clean SMTP commands by specifying the RCPT TO: different than the header's to. I want to do this using clean CDO and not SMTP commands. I found out that if i config CDO to send using pickup directory, mails start with: X-Receiver: user@myserver.com X-Receiver: user@server2.com and the to field follows in the header. Is there any reason why FPSE need to be extended on a site just to host ASP and ASP.net applications. The reason I ask is that we recently migrated out development server to IIS 6 and I had to extend some of the applications to allow the developers to connect via Visual Interdev. We are looking to migrate our production server here in the next few weeks, and if I don't have to extend any applicaions my life will be a lot easier (IIS Migration tool does about everything else). Now concerning .net applications, I should be able to re-deploy any of them using the SMB method in VS.net or just by copying the files over.     - Authentication Across Web Sites I have two websites which are hosted on the same web server, both of which authenticate onto the same domain / active directory. Both web sites are set to Integrated Windows Authentication for access control. If you log in to the first web site (http://main.mysite.org) and login, that is great, but when you follow a link that redirects you to the second web site (normally through a Reponse.Redirect command) (http://private.mysite.org) your are asked to log in again, even though you are already authenticated against the same domain / active directory. Since the web sites are the same domain, albeit with different prefixes, and use the same active directory, is there a way to allow the second web site to pick up the credentials used during authentication on to the first web site rather than asking the user to login again?     - websites directory security anomaly Hello Can some one please help me with what I think is a weird anomaly. I have created a website in IIS 6.0. I then goto configure the properties and under directory security / authentication and control I ask for anonymous access. I have set up a user specifically for anoymous website access and use that in the "User Name" and "Password" fields as required. It doesn't work !! When I view the site from IE6 it asks for logon details. However when I use the Administrator user account for anonymous access it works perfectly well. What is going wrong here?     - Help!!! IIS Internal Server Error!! Hi - I'm having some serious trouble getting IIS up and running on my new machine; its an AMD Dual Core with a raid 0 configuration. I keep getting Internal Server Error. I've been reading alot of articles trying to find a solution, and they seem to point to it being a problem with DTS (Distributed Transaction Services). I was getting the errors described in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=867520 What I discoverd is that the MSDTC is * MISSING * from my computer, and the setup file that the articles say to run dtcsetup.exe is missing. How can I fix my COM+ / DCOM stuff so I can get IIS running properly and I can get back to work?!?! I'm running Windows XP SP2, I installed Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 developer edition.     - IIS 6 Authentication I am serving MS CRM 3.0 dot net web application on port 5555. I have added a page containing IFrame. This IFrame is pointing to an aspx web page served on a default site's virtual directory 80. This virtual directory allows anonymous access and integrated access. When I try to bring up this page as a stand-alone, I get no problems. However, when trying to bring up this page as IFrame of a MS CRM page, I get authentication prompt. What's more, even if I press cancel, the IFrame still returns results as opposed to saying authentication failed. How can I get rid of the authentication prompt?     - Creating multiple websites on IIS 6.0? Requesting help from the IIS6 gurus out here.... I am trying to find out the best way to run multiple websites on one IIS web server (Win2K3 Server Web Edition). The way our web infrastructure is set up is going to change, as well as our desire to move from all ASP Classic over to .Net. Right now we have one production web server and one development web server (both IIS6). We are bringing up a second production server as we are going to bring in-house a website we had contracted out a while back. Our thoughts, however, are to put both websites one each server, and set the two up in a primary/backup fail-over style as opposed to each one designated to a single site. This would allow us to do updates, maintenance, patches, etc. on one, fail-over the servers, and then do the other with minimal down time of the site. On the development side, we have one server where previous web developer set up multiple IIS Webs, each having their own IP Address. While this works, it is a bit of an administrative nightmare, not to mention our Network guys are not very happy about it. I understand the reason, and I agree with the premise, it is just that I would like to find a better (?) implementation. The reason is that we have a multi-stage/multi-site development environment. All initial development is done in the DEV stage, after that all internal testing and reviews are done in the TEST stage, and after passing QA, the updates are copied over to the production web server. However we need a separate web for each public website and our Intranet, but also a DEV and TEST web for each of those. As I said above, we have two public websites, and soon to have a third, as well as our Intranet, I am looking at a minimum of 8 individual IIS webs: PublicWeb1_Dev, PublicWeb1_Test, PublicWeb2_Dev, PublicWeb2_Test, PublicWeb3_Dev, PublicWeb3_Test, Intranet_Dev, Intranet_Test. The other item that throws a curve in the works is that on at least one of the Public Websites we need to use SSL for a "secure area". Googling IIS, it looks as there are 3 different ways of creating multiple websites on the same box under IIS: Multiple IP's, Non-Standard Ports, Host Headers. Multiple IP's - This is what we are using right now -- each web is kept separate, no issues with SSL, can have multiple webs.... however, it requires a new IP for each web, our network has limited number of IPs to give, and the network guys are not happy with this solution. Non-Standard Ports - This is something I was thinking about doing as I could just use one IP address, and by setting each Web its own port, I could have literally hundreds of Webs. The downside it seems is that you have to append the port number to the URL for links. Also using SSL on multiple Webs becomes hellish at best as only one can be port 443, and it seems that the browser only looks for port 443 unless otherwise stated, so once again you have to append the port number. While I could probably live with this in our development environment, I *do not* want to have this on the production server. Host Headers - According to Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308163) using host headers allow "you to map multiple Web sites with the same port number to a single IP address by using a feature called Host Header Names. By assigning a unique host header name to each Web site, this feature allows you to map more than one Web site to an IP address." Checking out other sites (http://www.visualwin.com/host-header/, http://www.iisanswers.com/Top10FAQ/t10-hostheaders.htm, etc) it sounds like all I do is create a new IIS Web, point it to some folder on the box, give it the same IP address, same Port 80, but give a unique name for the Host Header, and then have the network guys update our DNS Server with that name and IP. So I for the different sites and stages I could do Host Header names like: "Dev.PubWeb1, Test.PubWeb1, Dev.Intranet, ..... " But then I read that SSL does not work with Host Headers (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187504/en-us), but want to make sure I am reading the KB Article correctly that this is solved with IIS6? From my limited experience standpoint, it seems like Host Headers is the way to go, but I want to make sure that is indeed the case. Also, I want to make sure we set things up correctly so that when pages are moved from DEV to TEST to Production, we do not need to alter them (or as little as possible) because of how the servers are set up. I also want to make sure, or get straight in my mind rather, how Host Headers would work with our registered domain names. I apologize for the long post here, but I am not a "network guy", have never been this involved before in setting up web servers and websites, and want to get it right the first time. Also, as we will be going from ASP Classic to ASP.Net, and want to implement source control software with our development, I want to get things set up to work with both as well.     - More than one sertificate on IIS Hi all. We have a problem regarding more than one sertificate issued to the same domain. Is this possible on IIS? Using WebService comunicating through this sertificate we want to switch to another sertificate to the same domain based on some criterias. All the logic seems to work fine, but trying to use sertificate nr. 2 the webservice fails. Any ideas on this problem?     - Download blocked without referrer? Hi! I have the following problem, thanks for your ideas. On an intranet I can download a PDF linked within a local html file without problem. When entering the URL of the PDF directly into the URL field of the IE, the download fails. I assume this is because the IIS blocks download attempts without a referrer, on the other hand a direct URL to a text file works fine... I'm at a loss.
