    - Page shown after an error Hello, I am trying to set up a backup server for one of our Web sites and I am having a puzzling problem with error handling. All the files from the live server has been copied to the new machine and at this point almost everything is working OK. However, some asp pages still produce errors, and what I can not figure out is what happens after an error. The site has a home page, and when an error occurs I would expect to end up on the default page, but it ends up on the deault page of the live site. I have gone through the properties of the Web site, including custom errors, and can not find anything that would cause this behavior. Any help would be appreciated.     - Custom Script Mapping interfering with aspnet_regiis -i -enable on IIS 6.0 I am working with an installation project for an ASP.net application. I have a custom action that executes .Net code to configure a website or create a virtual directory on the IIS server. This has worked quite well. However, a developer added some additional code to manually add a custom script mapping to the newly created website/virtual directory. At the end of the installation I call "aspnet_regiis -i -enable" just in case asp.net is not registered with IIS. When I create a scenario on IIS 6.0 where asp.net is not registered and run my install, everything works fine, except the asp.net mappings are not applied to my website/virtual directory with the custom script mapping. If i remove the custom script mapping through IIS manager and run "aspnet_regiis -i -enable", it succeeds in setting the script maps on my virtual directory/website. So it appears my custom script mapping is intefering with aspnet_regiis. Has anyone worked with the system.directoryservice namespace and set mappings through code?     - Authorizing Anonymous User - IIS6/.NET Is there anyway to force authentication of the Anonymous user? Here is the situation: I have an ASP.NET page which calls an assembly which requires a certain level of permissions. The page is running in a virtual server whose anonymous user is a network account with the required permissions. This allows anyone to view the page and see the data. This is working great, however, due to what is being returned, the page load time is longer than what I want the user to have to wait for. I moved the process to a seperate thread in order to return the page to the user right away. Where the process was working great when run in the same thread, it fails to work in the 2nd thread. Somehow the single thread is authenticating the anonymous user to run the process, but when spun to a different thread which should have the same permissions as the parent, it is not authorizing.     - WinXP IIS not loading pages from remote computer I've loaded IIS under WinXP, I can run asp.net app from Localhost fine. On other computers on same network IE can't find the server and goes to a Web search page...     - Decimal Setting within IIS Hi, I ve posted a message about how to configure IIS6 to use Point instead of the Comma as Decimal Separator. I use Windows 2003 Server french version and I have some troubles with a specific DLL that only use Point as decimal separtor. I ve changed my local setting but it seems it doen't change anything. All the numbers come with comma (like 999,99 instead of 999.99) Do you think I could find an issue for this problem... Anything into the registry or anything else ??     - ASP requests get queued when many threads are still available In our web application we see instances where we have the asp requests queued going up and down when there are only 8-10 asp requests being processed. If I understand correctly, this means there are one 8-10 asp worker threads actually doing work. We are currently set to the default of 25 threads per processor, so there should be threads available to handle the request. We have found a couple of situations where we can cause the asp requests queued to rise even if only one person is using the web server. In the first situation, we have an asp page that contains a form and a button that submits back to the same page. If the code to process the submitted data takes a long time and the user clicks the submit button again while the original submit is still being processed, the asp requests queued will rise by 1. If you continue to click submit, the queue rises by one each time. Since this can be reproduced by having just one person using the server, there should be plenty of asp worker threads to handle the additional requests. However, it seems that each submit from the web page is using the same worker thread. Why would this be the case? The second instance that we can get the asp requests queued to rise is just a long running asp page. We made a page that just does a for each loop from 0 to 1000000000. When we run the page, it obviously takes a while to run. While it is running, if we hit the stop button, and then run the page again (the original request is still processing because asp does not know the user hit stop), the asp queue will go up by one, and will go up by one each time we do this. Here again, it appears that individual asp requests are getting sent to the same asp worker thread. Is this what is going on? I know we could use "isclientconnected", but we want to know why it seems that individual requests keep getting sent to the same thread. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.     - File access problem (IIS 5.1, WinXP SP2) Hi, I am calling a VB.NET app from an hyperlink on a web page to run on the client. The app is starting perfectly - BUT: Within the app an excel-file should be opened (using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll). The path to that file is stored in App.config as "http://<host>/<virt. dir.>/file.xls". This does not work. The app terminates with error "file not found" where the file-name in the error message is null (""). The app works fine when started directly (not from web).     - Problem getting IIS to run Hi, I am having trouble getting IIS to respond on a new laptop, running XP Pro, SP2. I am trying to get IIS to run on this machine for the first time. When I type http://localhost in Internet Explorer's address field, IE's status bar says "Opening page hppt://localhost/." but the page is blank (white) and never shows anything. It just seems to hang. I believe I have IIS installed properly: When I go to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components, select IIS and click Details, the following items are checked: Common Files, Documentation, FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, Internet Information Services Snap-In, SMTP Service, and www Service (grey checkbox). When I go to My Computer and right click on Manage, then expand Services and Applications and double click on IIS, I get nothing in the right-hand pane of the Computer Management screen. It just seems to hang. I cannot tell any difference when I enable or disable Norton Internet Security, nor can I tell a difference when I enable or disable Windows Firewall.     - inetinfo.exe goes to 100% of CPU when publishing with FrontPage When publishing my web to the remote server (NT 4.0 SP6a, IIS 4.0) everything seems to work fine until it gets to the last step (Processing Web Updates for ...), then the inetinfo.exe process on the server goes to 100% and stays there until I restart the server.     - Win2000 Hangs SOmetimes I realize that this is going to be vague primarily since I cannot see the console of the server when it locks up....but... see if you can offer any insight.. I have 3 different web servers (all windows 2000) and they all seem to want to hang now and then for no apparent reason. Many times late at night during a no-traffic time. One server only has one web site on it. There is no pattern. They do, all, have ASP scripts running accessing various databases (using ADO ) and the solo server is running SQL2000. Does anyone know what might be going on? When I say it happens, its like ever 4-8 days of constant up-time. My next step is to get ahold of a console screen shot but its not all that easy to do. Situation: We have a Windows 2000 Server with IIS5 and SQL 2000 SP3 installed (call it oldserver). it's located in the domain [oldRD] next we have a Windows 2003 server running IIS6 and SQL2000 SP3 [newserver]. this one is located in domain [newRD] [oldrd] and [newrd] have a oneway trust: [oldrd] trusts [newrd]. now we have a Domain User located in [newRD] let's call him [myuser]. [myuser] is logged on to a workstation located in [newrd] -Windows XP Sp1. he is member of local administrators on all relevant machines. There are two databases, one located on [newserver] the other on [oldserver] -lets name them [oldDB] and [newDB] ;-) On both server is the same website installed. The site contains ASP-scripts. On [oldserver] there is a SystemDSN pointing to [oldDB]. On [newserver] there are two SystemDSNs one pointing to [oldDB] on [oldserver] and the other pointing to [newdb] on [newserver]. All DSNs are tested successfully on the server using WinAuth. Now if [myuser] opens the web on [oldserver] accessing [olddb] everything works. If [myuser] opens the web on [newserver] accessing [newdb] everything works fine. But if [myuser] opens the web on [newserver] accessing [olddb] the odbc sends back an error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Error authenticating user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON' /serverdata/sharedfiles/dbconnect.asp, line 3.     - URL Redirect Setup, with regards to extranet We use IE5.5+ on client systems. We have setup in the proxy exclusions that everything: *.theircompany.org Stays inside the intranet. However, they now need to get to their Internet site: www.theircompany.org We want to setup a redirect intranet site at the same name: www.theircompany.org which will re-direct to their Internet page. However, going via IP is not valid as the hosting company uses the IP for multiple sites, and needs to see the: www.theircompany.com in the URL to know which WebSite to send it to... Any ideas on how we can setup the IIS Redirect WebSite ? Or how to properly setup our exclusion list in IE, so that it won't exclude www.theircompany.com. (something like [*,-www].theircompany.org ) Note: Listing all the individual servers in the exclusion list is not an option as they have over 75 intranet servers, and are constantly adding more).     - SQL, ASP .NET, VB .NET Authentication Is it possible to authenticate user using a SQL database, containing users and passwords? What I want to achive is: I have as SQL database containig data for my app. This database also contains usernames, passwords and rights which are specific for my app. Also I have a middle tier WebService, which contains the business logic of my app, and is responsible for connecting to SQL database. The connection between SQL server and the WebService as made with hardcoded user. I don't need to authenticate the Users with SQL server. As a frontend I have a Windows Froms and ASP .NET applications. The users should fill username/password boxes, then this information is to be passed to the WebService, which checks the username and password in the SQL database. I want the WebService methods to be available only to users, which have authenticated to the user database in SQL server. Page dispayes after I enter correct user name and password provided above. Account TEST has read only permissions. For example our regional settings are dd/MM/yyyy but when an ASP page is accessed it writes the date as MM/dd/yyyy. I have also granted the iis anonimous user account, credentials on the site's ntfs directory. After this i am still being asked to enter windows user name and password.. Any idea why?? However, members of other groups still need to have the ability to restart IIS services via IISRESET using their domain logins. Using RUNAS is not an option as we do not want to give local admin privileges in ANY FORM to anyone outside the systems team. With this restriction, the task of determining the minimum account policies/permissions necessary to run IISRESET besides granting local admin privileges has been assigned to me. I've spent hours upon hours scouring MS sites attempting to find this information with no luck. Is there any configuration of group policy objects/file permissions which will allow a user to successfully run IISRESET against a remote server without granting local admin privileges or giving out/hard-coding the password of a local admin in a script/runas scenerio?     - Website will not startup. After shutting down the Web server and brought it backup the site will not start. When I manually click on the site to start, I receive an error "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." I've. tried stopping and restarting services...still unsucessful.     - 2003 FTP with IIS Guys, I setup an FTP server inside of IIS. It works great on the network. I can test by looking to the local server and try my accounts and everything is great. I try it offsite and I get a error that says you may not have permission to access these files. I have tried everything. I have rebuilt the FTP several times. I have tried different FTP clients. I did find one article that says something about log on locally but one of the accounts that I am testing with is the domain admin and also in the administrators group. I can see in the logs that an account login was attempted but denied. I have set the router up to open the DMZ and proved that it is not a firewall issue. Next thing I did is VPN in and then go in remotely across the VPN and it works great. Has anyone got any idea what is going on. Is it a log on locally problem? If so how do I get past this. We have a router and a firewall, and ip translation where the outside ip points to the servers ip port 80 on the inside. I can add these domains to a deny list in IIS, however that doesn't give me the ability detect these domains and then redirect users to specific deny pages based on the domains to which they are members. I can still browse the website through the local host. I can still open my local web application with visual studio .NET. I can also still restart the web publishing service, through the "Services" manager, but not through IIS. This happened a couple days ago, and "they" took away my administrative rights on my local machine like a month ago, my account has since been in the Debugger Users group. That is the only thing that I can think of that actually changed on my machine, but I wouldn't think that would matter. Any suggestions or advice? Set oShell = Server.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") oShell.Run("c:\somecmd.bat",,True) Under Windows 2000 the EVERYONE group had read/execute rights against cmd.exe. Under 2003 this has been removed and in order to get my .asp file to execute the cmd shell I must grant the IUSR acct read/execute access to cmd.exe on the web server.     - Novice seeking help re DCOM I've strayed into this unfamiliar territory while trying to track down various problems (implicating some problem with WMI) on my XP Home (SP1) PC. Could someone here kindly advise me how to interpret and hopefully fix the following please. In Component Services (Run DCOMCNFG.EXE) I left clicked 'COM+ Applications' and that gave me this error message: "An error occurred while processing the last operation, Error code 8004E00F - COM+ was unable to talk to the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator. The event log may contain additional troubleshooting information" In the Event Viewer, looking at the COM+ line, I see this: "The run-time environment was unable to initialize for transactions required to support transactional components. Make sure that MS-DTC is running.
