    - Problems Installing IIS on XP Tablet Edition A colleague has just rebuilt and configured a Tablet PC - he installed XP Tablet edition with SP1, then installed SP2. I'm trying to install IIS. It is asking for XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD - but I think rather than the SP2 CD it wants an XP Pro CD which includes SP2 - of which we dont have any yet... I've tried feeding it XPSP1 Retail & VLP versions, XP SP2 CD, and even a Win2k3 CD but I cant get any futher than the same point - after it starts to copy a few files, it stops and asks for the location of adsutil.vbs - I cant see this file (or any of the subsequent ones it asks for) on any of the CDs.     - why these ODBC driver errors in new IIS ? I made more webpages based on ASP connecting Access databases successfully running on my previous NT server 40 SP6a having IIS 4.0 Recently I translated them all in a new system based on XP PRO latest (SP2, August 2004) with same settings attentively made deeply, including Jet40 SP8 update separately or by latest SP2.2180 above. Now, my new IIS 5.1 provided by XP PRO above, seems to be not able to run those simple ASP code webpages interacting with Access database through common ODBC connector. Below there are common error messages listed when try to run that webpages: 1) Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. 2) Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x758 Thread 0x168 DBC 0x1032024 Jet'. Above there are 2 different cases to fix but based on same kind ASP code (ODBC). How can fix it ? Is this a notorious bug of new IIS so where is the patch ? I could not find any help in all MS Support site. So any suggestion would be appreciated before cancelling this unreliable too dependant IIS ... Where am I wrong or missed ?     - Configuration of IIS in WIndows 2000 with Active Directory I have windows 2000 server with active directory configured.I am unable to use IIS even after synchronizing the passwords in IIS metabase and Active Directory for the users IUSR_COMPUTERNAME and IWAM_COMPUTERNAME.It is also configured in Component Services.     - Install IIS in Win 2000 kills Services Access in computer manageme I need to do some web development from my laptop -- VAIO running Win 2000 Pro SP4. I just told the Add/Remove Win Components in the control panes to add IIS. Since then I have not been able to opem the services tree in the computer manahement window. I tried removing IIS (which appears to have worked) but still cannot open the services tree. When I try I just get the hourglass icon and nothing happens. I have to kill the computer management app with the task manager. Does anybody have a clue??????????? I've never seen anything like this before. Is there a fix? A patch?     - problem with DNS entries We have set up a local dns entry on our dns server. this would only work in-house on our network, but that is all we need. the problem is that we have sub domains as well. eg primary would be www.siteone.co.za and then two sub domains as two.siteone.co.za and three.siteone.co.za this works fine. we have three sites, they are redundant in the sense that if the main server goes down, we just switch IP addresses and then can go live again. the problem is that the sites are set up on these three domain entries. one and two work fine, but the third one keeps coming up with a dns error. i have checked the config of the sites in IIS and that all seems exactly the same for all three site. any help would be greatly appreciated.     - how to programatically retrieve application pool identity in IIS 6 I tried to ask this question in VS.NET news groups but folks there refered me to this group. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am creating a setup application for my ASP.NET web site. I need to make several directories in that web writable for the account running ASP.NET application during the installation process - change ACLs on those directories. The problem for me is to find out which windows account will be running the web application I am installing. I need to get this information programmatically from within the installer. I would also prefer a method that will work for IIS 5 as well, although there, I have been told, we could parse machine.config file to extract the identity information. But if there is some universal WMI call (or some other technology) that will just give me the identity of an IIS web site or virtual directory that would be great.     - setting up web site for file reference I'm trying to setup a web page that all our site PCs can reference for an automatic configuration script (ACS). Right now we are accessing an ACS from outside our facility. We also access a proxy server that is outside our location. When the WAN goes down the users cannot access the ACS and getting to intranet web pages inside our facility doesn't happen. I want user's internet explorer to be able to get to this site using http. I'm using IIS5.0. I've put the necessary file in a folder. I've created a virtual directory that references the folder. I've checked the file browsing check box. I've removed default.htm. When I right click on the virtual directory and choose browse, I get a 404 error. When viewing this web page I want the viewer to see the ACS file. I don't think I want this to be an FTP site/page.     - Oracle Database Access via IIS 6.0 ASP Pages on Windows 2003 Serve Community Members: Has anyone found an answer to the problem of accessing Oracle database from ASP pages on IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003. I serveral ASP web applications that I want to migrate to my new server running IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003. My Oracle ASP applications will no longer work. I have tried Oracle 8.1.7, 9.2, and 10g client connectivity but nothing works from ASP applications. I have eliminated the Windows Server and the Oracle drivers as a problem. The problem seems to be directly related to IIS 6.0. If there is no valid answer I am left with no choice but to revert back to Windows 2000. My applications worked on Windows 2000 Server and I do not understand nor have I been able to find an answer to the problem in my many hours of research. Any Microsoft professionals monitoring this site, I would appreciate your professional response to this porblem. I am devoted to Microsoft technologies and in my world I would prefer everything be Microsoft. But in the real world it does not work that way and I must work with all technologies and make all technologies work together Microsoft and Oracle alike. I support literally hundreds of servers running Windows and want a valid answer to this problem. If this is a Microsoft problem I want to know how to fix it.     - Web Service & IIS 6.0 - Getting 401:Unauthorized I have a simple web service in IIS 6.0 that uses Integrated Windows Authentication. I wrote a Windows client that sets the credentials to DefaultCredentials and calls the web service. When the client runs on the IIS 6.0 server itself the web service works fine. However from any remote client I get 401: Unauthorized. The IIS 6.0 is on a domain and the logon I use on IIS 6.0 and on remote machines is the same user.     - /LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT access denied error I cannot get IIS 5.0 on a Windows 2000 Standard Server to work. I get the following event when I try to get to http://localhost: Event ID: 36 The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'General access denied error'. If I tried to access an htm page, IE hangs. I have uninstalled and reinstalled IIS 5.0, still no success. I found the error on Microsoft - KB842329 and applied the patch, still no success.     - IIS 6.0 WIndows Server 2003. I am getting a similar problem. IIS 6.0 does not see the COM object that is available in a VB app. Apparently it does not load the dll associated with this COM object.     - IIS permissions settings question I have an MS access file residing on a web server that links to a table on a mapped network drive. The linked table actually resides within another MS access file that resides on a different server. The file mappings appear just fine and I can access the linked table on the mapped drive just fine when I open the table directly in MS Access. However, when the asp page attempts to access the table I get an error: x:\mappeddirectory\linked.mdb is not a valid path. I think it has something to do with the IIS permissions, but I do not know how to resolve it. Has anyone come across this type of problem and can you give some direction on what I need to do to resolve the issue? I can't combine the servers because they serve two independent and isolated functions, but I need to access the dynamic data in order to provide trending and historic information.     - W3WP.EXE 100% CPU We are running IIS 6.0 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. Recently, we have been experiencing poor performance on the website. When I check the Task Manager, I see that the W3WP.exe process is taking 100% (or close to it) of CPU all of the time. When I reboot, the process then acts normally, and the Web Page performs well. However, with in a very shourt amount of time (hours, sometimes less), the performance is poor again, and the w3wp.exe process is at 100%. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? On our Win 2K IIS 5.0 box this all works like a champ. However, when we moved the same code (and files) over to a Win2K3 box running IIS 6.0 the script fails when it calls the sendbinary method <snip> Set Upload = Server.CreateObject("Persits.Upload") Path = "E:\Hardcoded_physical_path\Doc_name.doc" Upload.SendBinary Path, True, "application/octet-stream", True We have made entries both at the application level and web root (in IIS) for MIME type application/octet-stream as follows: 1. In IIS, right-click the local computer name, and then click Properties. 2. Click MIME Types. 3. Click New. 4. In the Extension box, type an asterisk (*). 5. In the MIME Type box, type application/octet-stream. Apply the new settings. The World Wide Web Publishing Service must be restarted or wait for the worker process to recycle for the changes to take effect. Still getting the same error: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0115' Unexpected error /doc_download2.asp A trappable error (C06D007E) occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running. Persits software is approved for Win2K3 and I am working with them however still am not having any luck and feel this has to be some sort of either permissions or security thing in IIS.     - Redirecting OWA & OMA to default pages Ok, here's what I've got. Exchange 2003 on an Server 2003 box. Have had OWA running using email.domain.com. I did this using a redirect on the default web site and pointed it to an asp file that added in both the /exchange as well as a https. Problem is, if anything hits the default site, it goes right to /exchange, of course. Now we also want to use the OMA feature. So, I've already got aliases that point OMA.DOMAIN.COM to our IP, as well as EMAIL.DOMAIN.COM to our IP. My trend of thought was to setup two new websites under our default, set their default webpage to a redirect page and point to the correct urls. No go. I want users to be able to use http://email.domain.com as well as https://email.domain.com for OWA - I was able to get the plain http redirect working (Until I did something to screw that up!), but couldn't get the https running.     - Permission needed to call dom.LOAD vs XMLHTTP.send ... ??? Hi I am having a permissions issue on an IIS 5.0 Server under Windows Server 2000 SP 4 - at one point, an ASP page creates a MSXML2.DomDocument (v4 SP 2), and calls .load to a URL elsewhere on our WAN (a pseudo SOAP call). The Service called returns an XML response in a text/xml header. The ASP app is run In Process (Low Isolation) However, the dom.load() call comes back with an Empty DOM when the ASP app is run as as the default IUSR_*. However, if I change the Permissions on the ASP site to run as a Local Admin user, the dom.load works fine. Dom.load also comes back with blank xml if I run out of process (Medium or High) even when run with local admin credentials, however, I'm guessing this is the DOM oop marshall bug still in effect...     - IIS5 Logfile not recording all usernames Hi, I'm running an Intranet using iis 5 and have specified Integrated Windows Authentication under Directory Security, Authentication Methods. All users are accessing the Intranet from one of 4 Terminal Servers. I've recently started analysing the iis logfiles and have noticed that approx 25% of the log records have no entry in the cs-username field. This is obviously distorting my user statistics.     - well I re-installed IIS on my laptop witout success. I read a lot of articles especially on aspfaq.com discussing error 36 in event log which states ""The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root'" or "The specified metadata was not found". This lead me to discover that my COM+ service is not running (red down arrow).     - IIS/ASP/SQL Security Error I am getting an error trying to run a SQL Server SELECT statement from an ASP Application. I am learning ASP/IIS/SQL Server by writing a small ASP app in Dreamweaver. I've created and tested the ODBC connection just fine. And when I create the connection in Dreamweaver and run the query it works just fine. Whenever I access a website that utilizes .net webpages, the server accesses my diskette drives before it finally serves up the page. It seems to be searching for the resources to serve up the page.     - HTTP Error 500 G'day to all. I've posted this at microsoft.public.frontpage.extensions.windowsnt (in case this is an FP thing, but i doubt it). I am getting error message http 500 - internal error... (Friendly messages off yields: Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. I've checked every MS KB article (including deleting the IIS packages in component manager, checked IUSR & IWAM). Here are snippets from the server event logs: 1) App - COM+ (Error 4097) - The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal state. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. *** Error in __FILE__(926): Application image dump failed. MS has been no help here (so far) as I submitted this to them on Wednesday. 2) Sys - W3SVC (Error 36) - The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root/mymail'. The error was 'Server execution failed. For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. (This goes to the vapornet) 3) Sys - DCOM (Error 10010) - The server {3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. ERRATA: Funny thing it works fine in another IIS 5 server. The major difference is the server that fails (as well as my 2KWS machine) is the server has FP 2002 Extensions. However, the application directory (which is identical to a server without FP) has the appropriate permissions and has not been extended. I should also note, that HTM & HTML code words just fine, so I'm not convinced that it is an IIS or NTFS permissions thingy (but what the heck, I could be wrong here). The server system logs for IIS show a request for the url/login.asp as expected. Any suggestions (other than all the related MS KB articles - all of which I have saved) would be greatly appreciated.     - Strange thing I have a laptop where I have Win XP pro, IS 5 asp .Net 1 and 1.1, VS 2002 and 2003. this morning I tried to browse one of the we sites I developed on my server, I got a message indicating that I have no .Net setup on my machine. I opened the IIS mmc, and for the first time I see the the node myMachineNem(LocalComputer), clicking on it, everything disapPeared (web sites, smtp , ftpservice, ...........) I opened the service sheet, saw WWW service has not started, i ried to start it, I get the following error essage : Could not start the WWW Publishing service on local computer.     - Error running Asp.net files in IIS 5.1 I have Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 installed with IE 6.0 and IIS 5.1. I'm unable to get IIS to run aspx files correctly. The server gives a unrecognized character error on the first <% in the file. When running the IIS admin control and right clicking on the default web site to bring up the properties the application crashes when I select the ASP.NET tab with a error message pointing to the Microsoft Management Console.     - Cannot Install IIS on Windows XP I tried to install IIS from Windows XP Pro using Add/Remove Windows Components. The process went on for a while and then hung at "Completing configuration of SMTP Service" for over an hour. I killed the task, went back into Add/Remove Winodws Components, unchecked IIS, and run it again to remove the remnants of files I have there, and try installing again.     - iis 6 .aspx page w/ form will not submit PLS HLP I am not a .NET pro but I am moving several sites to a new server (from WIN2K to WIN2K3). The sites seem to be working fine but any page that has a form and submit button and has the extention .aspx, will not work. If I fill out the form incorrectly the form validation works fine but once all data is in, and the submit button is pushed.... nothing happens, no page reset/refresh, no form change, just nothing. This happens on multiple sites. I have done some research and I am thinking it is a security setting in IIS 6 but cannot seem to find exactly what to do. Any help woudl be greatly apprecaited! If you run a singel server you can publish printer with
iis so useres can connect to them and install printers
with a webrowser.
To do this you make a virtual directory and the source is
C:\windows\web\printers\
But on a 2003 printcluster all printers are shared from
the virtual machine on the local node does not share any
printers.
Is there a way to set this up with printercluster ?
