    - Some programs slow to respond I am running Windows XP Professional and installed IIS. When I try to browse to http://localhost I have to do that several times before the home page is delivered to the browser. The first several times I get a can't find page type message; then that changes to a waiting for a waiting for localhost message then eventually after several refreshes the localhost homepage appears. It is almost like IIS takes awhile to wake up. I am pretty sure that is is active withis a reasonable time after starting the system. Related to this is that the IIS manager doesn't do anything (won't launch or doesn't see a web server) until after IIS seems to be running.     - Special Character substitution in IE6 from IIS6 site Hi, I've asked this issue recently in other groups but it seems like IIS6 is making URL substitution on special characters in IE6. What I mean is that the URL (example) http://www.mysite.com/new-folder is changed into http://www.mysite.com/new%2Dfolder Only when I ad the / ath the end of the address like http://www.mysite.com/new-folder/ the URL substitution isn't carried out. Programmers at the company I work for asks me to solve this issue but I'm lost right now. This issue won't be carried out on IIS5 systems. IE and Firefox gives the same result.     - IIS App Pools Recyling too Fast. Hi, I am hosting hundreds of websites on a webserver using a combination of sql and asp. SQL is on a different server. The web server is running win 2003 iis 6 with a single processor and 1 GB Ram. All websites are in 1 app pool. I find that i get out of memory errors or no new sessions are created when the virtual bytes for an App pool starts to breach over 1500mb. So i recycle the App pool at a limit of 1500mb. This leads to the app pool recycling 1-2 times a day. Typically i see the memory with values of :Private Bytes (293mb) and virtual bytes (1438mb). I don't know whether this is a leak somewhere in ASP or normal with IIS but the virtual bytes only seems to increase over time and not stablise or go down as i would expect when users visit and leave a website. I have a script that i use to let uses download files from the server. It uses the response.binarywrite method. If i download a large files (i.e. over 100mb) then i see a big jump in the virtual bytes that IIS allocates in the w3wp.exe process. This does not appear to go down after the file has been downloaded although Private Bytes goes up and then down initially. I was thinking that this may be a cause of the problem?! ...or maybe it is typical for these types of large scale ASP applications? Would increasing the main memory RAM to 2GB help in this situation. The main Physical Memory still reports about 300mb free when i get the memory problems? Would it help to split the websites into a couple of different App Pools, then increase the page file size to something larger and hence each App pool gets to use a separate 2GB memory space? Would i benefit from moving to Windows 64bit edition and installing more Ram and having a large Page file to cope with the large Virtual Bytes?     - How to make a redirection to a web site on a the same box? Hello, In my company, we have a Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6. The URL of a web site is: http://<server_name>/VPortal and runs on IIS. I would like to provide the ability to the user to use the address http://portal.<company-name>.com, which is simpler to remember. First, I declared in my DNS the address http://portal.<company-name>.com so that it match with your my server IP address. Then, I created a new web site in IIS and in the Home Directory tab, I set to redirect to the adress http://<server_name>/VPortal but now, when I type the two addresses, the browser seems to loop indefinitely. In fact, what I would like is to have two web sites on the same box (i.e. with the same IIS and IP address) whose one of the two is automatically redirected to the second one. How can I do this?     - Dynamically disabling HTTP compression in an ISAPI extension I would like my code, which dynamically generates web pages, to be able to disable HTTP compression on a per-request basis. Currently, I have II6 compression set up to always compress dynamically generated pages. Unfortunately, I cannot use HcScriptFileExtensions to control this since the URLs for requests which should not be compressed can have any file extension. Port80's HTTPZip software appears to offer a way to do this via MIME types, but again, I want to decide this based on other parameters of the request and not the MIME type or file extension.     - Changed Computer Name = I Am Screwed For networking reasons I have just changed the name of my PC. Eventually I got the network working. Today I opened FrontPage and went to do some work on a web I am building and disaster.     - Double Authentication We are currently running IIS 6 with .Net 2.0. Ever since we have deployed to our Test server, we are getting prompted twice for authentication. It does not happen when working on ASP.NET Development Server (visual studio embedded .net dev server) on my desktop. Does anyone know why this is happening?     - 100 Continue in IIS 5.0 but not IIS 6.0? When I make POST requests to IIS 5.0, I always get "100 Continue" as part of the response. The exact same POST to an IIS 6.0 server will not produce "100 Continue". The requests are made through XMLHTTP from the same XP client. When looking at the request dump, I have verified that "Expect: 100 Continue" is NOT in the request headers. This isn't causing any problems, but as I am working on performance, I would like to understand the effect of the addtional response in both time and bandwidth.     - Sharepoint ISAPI problem I am trying to develop an ISAPI filter to run before stsfltr on a sharepoint portal server. I am basically trying to capture the username and the url from the request but it appears that even with my custom filter higher in the ISAPI list stsfltr is called first. If a request is made for a document within sharepoint (eg http://servername/sites/ACLTest/Shared%20Documents/GRCM263TMA01Q5.txt ) then the url returned is "/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll".     - Setting default application for Default Web Site on XP? I'm using IIS on Windows XP which allows me to only have one Web site. How can I configure the Default Web Site to redirect to one of the applications I have configured in IIS? So if I type http://127.0.0.1 it will go to the app I want?     - Form post not passing data to ASP??? I have IIS server installed on XP-pro. I also have Norton Internet Security installed. I can run simple ASP programs without any problem. But when I use forms with post method and call an asp in action, it does not pass any data to ASP. Request.Form method on a form field does not return any value.     - Problem with IWAM account Hi all, I've a problem with the account IWAM_<my computer>. A couple of months ago i installed on my WinXP the IIS 5 to play with asp. After that, I enabled the Guest Account for other reasons, and now I can't turn on the IIS anymore. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall IIS server, and i've found out the problem in IWAM account. In particular, IWAM account now is undeletable: if i try to delete this account before installing IIS server with the shell command 'net user "IWAM_<my pc>" /del", Windows answers me "Operating system error 2 - The system cannot find the file specified". Default Web Site (ASP and .NET installed and authorized) Sharepoint 2 Services Exchange Front-End Server Certificate Server (Root Enterprise CA) Sharepoint Admin Website Office Communicator Web Access Website Now all of these were running last night, for at least 10 hours, not a problem. Technical: In order to get Exchange and Sharepoint to work together, I had to reset the NTAuthenticationProviders back to "Negotiate,NTLM" on the FE Server, every application on IIS seems to create its own pool, and everything looks correct, well nothing has changed.     - IIS anonymous authentication not working I have a clean installation of windows 2003 SBE and SQLServer2000, it has all hotfixes installed. I want to publish two web sites that are completely anonymous (www). Both sites are correctly configured for two different domains using virtualhosts and both work correctly for a certain period. The problem I have is that after a certain time (a few hours), IIS 6.0 anonymous authentication stops working and starts asking me for a username & password. It might be related to a metabase synchronization failure. If I reset the IIS process it works again, but only to expire again in less than a day. IIS sends me this error: HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials whenever I try to access any page. I manually synchonized the IUSR_ user password once and it works as I said, for a few hours. I don't need to change the password to make it work again, but reseting IIS 3 times a day is something I refuse to do :( The IUSR has permissions in the file system, so that is not the problem. I also red all the knowledge base articles but nothing seems to work http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332167/en-us http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247378/en-us I saw a similar post in this forum that was related to a trojan, but this is a clean installation.     - Remote Intranet access problem One user is having a problem logging on to our Intranet remotely. When he gets the network logon screen, he enters his user name and password, but immediately the IP address of the Intranet is placed before his user name in the logon box and it won't connect.     - iisweb.vbs not working Im trying to run iisweb.vbs from some workstations to create some sites. it brings up the error that it only runs with IIS6, which I am running on the server.     - IIS6 Caching I'm testing a new and empty IIS 6 site, with my ISAPI application. I created a new App Pool for the scripts directory and I notice that sometimes my dll is cached (and sometimes it's not). I ALWAYS want to cache the dll and the related files, so I tried setting the MaxCachedFileSize registry entry to a higher value, but the problem persists.     - "Page not found" but it exists. I've created a virtual directory that contains a file called "cics2.rsf" which I expect IE to prompt the users to download the file to their local hard drives (or open it). But, when I try to open that file in IE I continue to get a "Page Not Found" error ( http://localhost:5555/test/cics2.rsf) even though the file exists? To try and figure out what's going on I placed "test.htm" in the same directory (http://localhost:5555/test/test.htm) and the page comes up no problem. So then I placed a word file in the same directory (http://localhost:5555/test/test.doc) and IE as I expected prompts the users to download or open the file. Finally I renamed the file extension from "rsf" to "htm" and this time the file is found and displayed in the browser???? So what's so special about ".RSF" extension?     - Net use connection to Virtual Directory I have a 2003 Server running IIS 6 and have created a virtual directory. I want to use net use to create a local drive. The format I'm using is as follows: net use x: http://server ip address/sharefolder The server is running in a DMZ and I'm going through the firewall which has port 80 opened to allow accessing the virtual directory but receive a error 67 network name not found. I can access the folder using Internet Explorer. Are there additional ports required to utilize the net use command or what else might create this problem?     - Having problem setting up another web site on IIS 5.0 When we originally set up the web server we used the default web site. Well just puchased a wild card SSL so that we can cover mulitple web sites. I am now trying to create another web site on the same server that is using the default and I am having no luck accessing that second site. Can anyone please tell me how to do this?     - system.lck and general web site slowness The server is running IIS 5 and all of our web people are using Frontpage 2002 and one is using 2003 to edit our sites. The only error that shows up in our event log is the problem with system.lck which when you search various places online they say to reinstall the Frontpage server extensions. We have done that several times but the problem keeps coming back, also along with this the IIS 5 starts running very slow when people are editing there web sites. Could this be a problem with one user using FrontPage 2003 and everyone else using 2002? Is there any advice out there for a slow responding web server when people are editing there sites? Help!     - localstart.asp Hello, I have localstart.asp and iisstart.htm in the wwwroot. If I make iisstart.htm as the default document, I receive a 400 error. If I make localstart.asp, I am receiving a 401.2 error. If I say, http://localhost:81/localstart.asp (when localstart.asp is default) it asks for username and password and then it gives a vbscript error.     - IIS & Inter-Process Communication Hello, I'm currentrly trying to write a Active-X DLL that can be called in an ASP page and that sends then a message via Send-Message API to another program, that recieves it. Everything works fine when I call the Active-X dll in Visual Basic, but as soon as I call the DLL with ASP, my programm never recieves any message. So the reason why this is not working must have something to do with IIS, but I don't know what.     - ISS and DC on the same server Hi Guys I have just installed IIS on a clean Win2003 SRV SP1 - and it's working for me. The problem is that I cannot reach http://server/. The error displayed is this is "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials". It would seem that the problem has something to do with IUSR_SERVER not beeing able to log on locally, even though this user should be allowed to do so, acording to the default domain controllers policy.     - ISAPI extension loop I am writing ISAPI extension that works on specific files. If the file includes a text in it, I need to change the text, otherwise the file should not be changed. I have defined the ISAPI extension on the IIS, and in the code I have the following call: url_length = lstrlen (url); pCtxt->ServerSupportFunction(HSE_REQ_SEND_URL, url,&url_length,0); where the url is the original url, It causes a loop, since it calls again the ISAPI extension. If I create a virtual ditectory that points to the same directory, but doesn't have the ISAPI extension, calling instead of "url" to "url1", which points to the new virtual directory is working. Hi there,

For some reason our IIS server has just stopped processing include files for
a single virtual site (the rest are fine) - we've been uploading/downloading
a fair amount to alter this individual site today, but all of a sudden the
ASP includes are not being processed and instead when looking at the end
result in the browser, we can actually see the ASP include statement (that
of course should be hidden).

We've tried deleting and recreating the IIS site but to no avail.

Any ideas?
