    - IIS ODBC logging. Is it possible to override? Hi, I'm using ODBC logging to an SQL server. The problem is that if the SQL is down, the sites can't write logs to it. The IIS is actually halted in such case. Is there any option to tell the IIS that if it is impossible to write the log, just continue to work without writing the log?     - WWW service stops accepting connections Hi, I have a 2003 Web Server Ed. server that hosts several websites. Every week or two the W3SVC seems to stop accepting connections - the requested site just times out. The ftp service on the same machine is fine as well as the smtp service. If I restart the W3SVC then its all ok again. Is there a way I can find where the problem is ? The event logs show nothing and the website logs have no entries after the service stops responding.     - Personal Web Server I have attempted to set up a PWS on an old Windows 95 pc. I have a Netgear MR814 router. I can connect to the PWS over the LAN but not via the Internet. I can ping the routers IP over the web. Port forwarding has been configured for port 80 to the PWS IP. I suspect there might be a default filter for http built into the router like the Netgear RT314 but have been unable to locate any supporting documentation. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I run IIS 5.0 on wk2 pro, and i;m trying to set up my website. however, i also want to have zonealarm pro 4.5 and norton internet security 2004 pro to run at the same time. I have port 80 enabled in both, i tried 8080 but it didnt help. My firewalls keeps reporting ports in the 3000s and 6000s being blocked. What is the port that IIS uses??!     - IIS5 SMTP Authentication I have successfully set up an SMTP virtual server with clear text SMTP authentication, authenticating against an active directory domain. It works fine for computers connected on our LAN. However, computers outside our LAN can not issue an EHLO command to the SMTP server, it returns a 500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command. So any attempts to authenticate are rejected and it fails. I know the preferred method of doing this is to set up a certificate on the SMTP server. However, for the very few number of users who need to be able to relay, we don't really want to pay for the certificate. So I'd like to know if: 1) There is any way to allow external machines to authenticate in plain text 2) If the installation of a certificate would make the problem go away... and if so, is there a way for me to set up my own certificate instead of paying a CA.     - So near and yet so far... it's always the same with Microsoft Hi, Why is it with many of Microsoft's technologies, that they got a great base, but just the thing that one needs seems to have been forgotten, or neglected or whatever?!?! NLB is finally included with all Win2k3 Server Editions, God bless those who decided that at M$. Way to go! I even save on a hardware loadbalancer! With Win2k3 I can create webs and easily sync them between my now "load-balanced" servers! And to round it off, there we have DFS with it's useful FRS for keeping those static HTML pages on all servers in the NLB-farm synchronized. Wow! What a great solution!! But wait a minute, what's this? In order to use FRS we need to somehow unify our ACLs on the NTFS resources being synchronized, or we'll have to change/add to the ACLs for each node in the cluster. Now let's see. IIS installs a couple of users and groups - IUSR_<machine> IWAM_<machine>. MS.Net uses a couple of other ones, ASPNET, Network Service, System Service - did I forget any? But hey! They knew what to do! They added them all into a group called IIS_WPG. But shit, all those are local users groups! And the group doesn't use a Well-Known-SID. Now what was the strategy? They (the devs) obviously didn't go for a domain-structure, since they tied all that down into local units pretty well. I'd like that approach more anyways, because having local rights on the webservers would make it easy to withstand a total Domain-Failure or move back to stand-alone, without having to change the ACLs all over. But they also didn't think past a single-server solution. On one hand, we got OOP session state, NLB, FRS, you name it, on the other hand you have to re-invent the wheel to somehow "glue" it all back together!!! Ok, maybe I missed something, and you're going to enlight me and I'll feel sorry. I sure hope so. I didn't find a single tool with which one could create a group on 2 computers with a predefined SID. That would be as simple as that and my day would be saved. But obviously NOBODY ever needed such a tool - noone at SysInternals, noone at Microsoft, noone at Rackspace (very large provider). Are we really being made to create a domain-user, fiddle with a whole bunch of rights we have to manually set on each webserver and then buy another DC and another GC so that in case our primary GC/DC goes down/is unavailable all our webs won't stop working?? someone please enlighten me with a solutions, that's worthy of being implemented... regards, Tilli Tag: Is it possible to define error substatus in ODBC logging?     - Two sites on a single server Hello, We want to implement two sites on my single system with IIS 5.0 and Windows 2000 Advanced server. We have a public IP pointing to a site which is SSL implemented and the other is an ordinary site. i.e. we have users logging into a site which is SSL 128 bit encryption implemented, after the successful login the user is redirected to a site on the same server which is not SSL implemented.     - Web Server Performance Reporting Can anyone recomend a good tool to be able to report on web server performance? We are currently using IIS 5 on Win 2K Server. I need to be able to find out how hard the server is working throughout the day, without sitting and watching the performance monitor. I would like to know average CPU / Page File Usages, as well as how many times/ and how long the CPU was pegged at 100%. I don't need complex remote admin tools, I simply want to be able to report on this type of data. Does anyone how of an inexpensive tool that will do this?     - Migration Hi, I am trying to deploy my asp.net application on Win2003/IIS6.0. IIS6 doesn't work and keeps saying page can not be found. I checked everything precisely, even filemon.exe from sysinternals doesn't show access denied record.     - firewall on, my webiste inaccessible I am setting up a small IIS website server on my pc. When firewall on, I cannot access the webpage from other pc. when off, it becomes accessible. It is not clear what I should do except leaving firewall on until I get further replies. I am quite a novice on this stuff. Let me know what is going on. I have an hunch that there are some virus lurking somewhere indicated by Task Manager's running programs' strange (nefarious?) names. I dont know if it causes firewall problem.     - IIS Net Taking Changes OK I modify a web page and for some reason when I go to a client system it is not seeing the change. Like I changed a web page and it took some time for the change to appear. Also I changed security settings... For example I needed DOMAIN authentication in Basic vs Relm so I removed the relm and left only the domain and yet when I go to a client it keeps asking for my relm.. Other issues... I have Perl to be allowed and when I view a page via the server the site appears fine and the counter (the perl script in img html tags) appears fine. If 'Server.CreateObject()' is used, web objects can be created until something breaks and then most of the remaining CreateObject() calls in the script fail. But removing the string 'Server.' from the CreateObject() call remedies the problem and allows objects to be instantiated as effectively as they were in IIS 5.1.     - Problems with .Net frame extensions I have a 2003 server. I installed it sometime back without IIS. I have just installed IIS and followed the procedure listed KB306005 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;306005 This fixed the extension mapping shown in the IIS administration tool, but it did not fix all my problems. The thing that I find different between a 2003 server that had IIS installed when the server was install vs this one is. When I try to access a web.config file (don't ask why) I get different results. 1) - Server that had IIS installed when 2003 was installed, returns and error telling me that .config is an explicitly denied extension type. (Good response.) 2) - This server returns 404 - no found (bad response). I have checked virtual directory settings. I have re booted the server. I have a program from SysInternals called Process Explorer, which is very slick. If I click on one of the DLLHost processes, I can view which files it's accessing, and can determine which app the DLLHost relates to.     - IIS 6 Authentication Suddenly Broken I have a Windows 2003 domain controller running a test web site internally (the PDC is Windows 2000 running ISA server). Suddenly this morning, IE started prompting users for user names and passwords for this test site, but still would not allow access. It fails with access denied 401.3. After a lot of poking around, I decided to remove and reinstall IIS on the server. This made no difference, but I cannot get access even to the default web's iisstart page. I have set the ACL on the inetpub directory (and all children) to full control for everyone and still nothing works. The default web site was originally configured for anonymous access plus integrated windows authentication. I turned off the latter and the anonymous access alone is still failing. I tried changed the account used for anonymous access, but nothing I did there had any effect either. I also tried turning off anonymous access and just going with integrated, but that made no difference either. I can get to the contents of this directory just fine with UNC file names.     - Multiple IP addresses for FTP Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could provide me with some background on this one. I am trying to setup a small hosting company. I have used host headers to allow access to the various www sites and that works great, but I cannot for the life of me figure ot how I can do the same for ftp site. I have tried using virtual directories and this works fine if I give everybody the same ftp address and then get windows to redirect them to the right folder according to their user name and password. But what I am trying to achieve is to allow each customer to connect to ftp://theirsite.com and not through one generic one. Is there a way for this to be done without using a unique IP address for each ftp site? If not do I need a special kind of router (for example only specific Cisco models) or can I do this with any old firewalled ADSL router? It does seem as a fairly expensive way to go abou it (assigning unique public IP addresses), so is this how ISP's are doing it? Thank you very much for your help. seems possible only in file logging...

Have you considered logging to a file, then using a scheduled task (eg a DTS
job) to import this into SQL Server for later analysis?
