Running server 2003 and IIS. I have a virtual directory with some .htm
documents in it.

When I make changes to one of them, the changes dont show up on the web. If
I access the file directly I see my changes, but if I access through the
website, i see the old version of the file. Even if I delete the file, I
still see the old version.

In the same virtual directory, I have another file and when I update it, i
can see the changes right away. If I delete this file the browser returns
"this page can not be displayed" as I would expect.

How is that first page getting cached? How do I refresh it?

I would check VERY carefully to make sure the page does not exist or
that the same page isn't also uploaded under the name of one of your
default documents. I have never heard of the server cacheing the page,
I would think it'd be more of a browser issue.

Does it also pull up through a different browser?

If you reboot your computer or restart your IIS server, does it still
shows the page. If it does, you can rule out cacheing.

Also, do you happen to have a regular directory with the same name as a
virtual directory in your web root?

I will try to give more detail:
I have a folder on drive d: of my server named personal.
This is linked to a virtual directory on my IIS also named personal
I have folders inside there for each person allowed to share stuff on the
web.
mine is d:\personal\steve

You can look at it yourself http://www.eliznc.com/personal/Steve/
browse the directory.

You will see a file there in the list "moron's hall of fame.htm" It should
not even be there, I just deleted it while I was typing this message. It does
not exist on d:\personal\steve but it does on
http://www.eliznc.com/personal/Steve/

This is the only file in that directory that behaves this way. If I delete
or update any other file in that directory, it is immediately recognized. on
the web.

I am baffled????

I set http headers to expire immediatiely, that didnt help?

Are you sure the virtual directory is mapped to the correct directory?
Also, can you do a dos directory listing and paste it here?

It finally did update, this morning when i came in. And it does update
immediately now. However, I did make that change to the http headers, to
expire immediately. Perhaps the service needed restarting or sufficient time
in order for it to take effect.

But I thought you said the files:

01/20/2005 02:22 PM 31,258 Moron's Hall Of Fame.htm
01/21/2005 10:56 AM <DIR> Moron's Hall Of Fame_files
did not exist and you had deleted them?

I have the same problem with win2K / ASP pages by Jerome

Jerome

I posted some time ago and got no help. I wish MS would acknowledge this
problem!

Win2K/IIS 5.0, web farm load balanced by Local director. same setup on each
web server.

I have an application that is mapped to a network folder, physically located
on a file server , also Win2K. When we update ASP files, some times, some
web servers, continue to server the old version even 1-2 days after the
update, and we have to reset IIS. the mapping has been checked numerous
times, its 100%. the same web server can react to updates on same folder ,
and next time not react.

date-time synched perfectly among file server and all web servers.

important to notice - same web servers host also CFM pages on same physical
folder, mapped by CFM admin on each web server. NEVER had a problem with
ColdFusion not recognizing an update!
