    - Upload problem with patch 832894 Our users are having problems uploading files larger than 4mb to our server after installing the Security Update for Internet Explorer 832894. We are using AspUpload. The transfer rate drops down to 3% (10 Mb/s) after installing the patch resulting in a timeout error. The transfer rate before installing the patch was 60-70% We are using Windows 2000 server (IIS5). We tried to upload large files with IE patched with 832894 on 3 different servers with the same results, to rule out that this was a server issue. Does anyone know how to fix this problem without uninstalling the patch? I haven't seen any patch from Microsoft that fixes this problem although they have released 831167 that fixes another problem with the patch.     - SMTP virtual server issue I have a win2k server that hosts several web sites. On those sites, we have the usual "contact us" tab. it is setup to forward us a canned e-mail with the info that the person enters. here is the deal. these emails are going to the \mailroot\badmail or queue directory. they never leave the server...     - %temp% access in ISAPI I have an ISAPI dll that was working fine under 5.0/5.1, but now under 6.0 I'm having trouble with accessing the %temp% directory. We can create subdirectories and files into %temp%, but we can't read them back. It's telling me the file doesn't exist even though I can step through the code and see the path/file and then go to it in Windows Explorer. I've checked permissions and users out the ying/yang, but I can't get it to work. Any ideas on setting up 6.0 so my isapi app can use the %temp% directory?     - HTTP Headers and redirection Is there a way to have IIS redirect to another web server based on HTTP headers. I have IIS on 192.168.1.3 and Apache on 192.168.1.6. If user comes in asking for test.mydomain.com I want it to provide the default page from .3, but if they go to www.mydomain.com, I want it to redirect to the default on .6. Thanks in advance.     - CPU Usage "ping-ponging" Hi, We have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server machine, running IIS5. The server system has 4 CPUs and I believe that hyper-threading is enabled in BIOS (it's a Dell). We are seeing a problem where, with just a single user accessing the website, we see some CPU Usage initially on the 1st CPU, then, after awhile, the 2nd CPU shows CPU Usage, and CPU Usage on the 1st CPU drops to almost nothing. Then, after awhile, CPU Usage increases on the 3rd CPU, and CPU Usage on the 2nd CPU drops to nothing, etc. Again, this is with a single user accessing the system. I'm trying to understand what's going on with the CPU Usage. This is my 1st time working with a server with multiple processors and hyper-threading. Can someone explain this? I'm kind of guessing that when the user accesses the website, one process is starting on the 1st CPU, and that is either spawning a process or thread on the 2nd CPU, and the 1st process exits, etc., and that Windows 2K and IIS5 has some kind of round-robin type algorithm for allocating CPU usage.     - Help Whats going on with our iis server ? Here are the symptoms. Till 12.30 AM this morning everything was working fine on or web application. Then we started getting 500 Internal Server errors on our the pages. The IIS server is not responding to local host requests either and failing with 500 errors.     - Secure uploads in IIS6 We just setup a Windows 2003 box with IIS6. I would like to setup a way for all our web developers to upload file for our website securely using WebDAV (at somepoint we will have an SSL certificate). I'm trying to stay away from enabling FTP, so all uploads would be done using WebDAV. We are in an Active Directory environment so all authentication would be taken care of when a user logs onto their computer. I've read through the IIS6 Resource Guide and tried to setup WebDAV. I can make a connection in Dreamweaver using WebDAV successfully, but uploads are denied. The account I'm using to make the WebDAV connection is part of the Admin group, but things aren't working. I've even set the permissions on the directory to allow write and it still won't work. Also, is there any reason why I can't have WebDAV be the only way people can upload file to the webserver, or do I need to use FTP at some point? Any help would be appreciated.     - redirection on IIS Hi, We aim to have our IIS server in house, we had 2 different sites which were hosted by our ISP, now the second site is a part of the first site, and when I talked to my ISP he said we have to redirect it on our IIS. So I need to redirect a site say www.site2.com to a url under site1 like www.site1.com/site2 can someone help me to do that.     - Load balancing IIS and Frontpage Hello, OK, I know this subject seems to be highly unanswered, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. Here's what I am trying to do using IIS6 and the version of Frontpage extensions that come with it: I need to set up a pool of two to three servers, that all serve the same content. I would like to store the content for the sites on a central file server (also windows 2003) using a UNC share for access. However, at least 60% of the sites that will sit on these three servers are frontpage sites. I can't seem to get the frontpage components to work in this setup. Has anyone out there tried this? There seem to be a lot of places that claim they do it and there's even packages like the Zeus load balancer (www.zeus.com) that claims it can do it. When I try to set it up, it seems like only the first server that you install the extensions from can access the bots/components that frontpage needs to process forms, etc. The other servers simply prompt for authentication and the only way to get it to work is to feed it the domain administrator account, which is not going to work for obvious reasons.     - CDONTS Mail - most mail coming through but not all We have been using the same CDONTS asp script for a couple of years - but some of our customers are complaining that they are not getting the emails. The way it works is that a user fills out a form, and then submits the form (see code below) - and a copy of the email is sent to us. Some of these just do not appear to be getting through despite others from the same organisation working. Any ideas? Code below, pretty long. There is a line which checks to see if they have the rights for this email to be sent, and it isn't that - I've tested this. The interesting thing is that I cannot replcate these problems even when I log in as the users are who are having these problems, which makes me wonder whether there are some problems with CDONTS or IIS of which I am unaware that can cause these intermittent problems? Any help greatly appreciated.     - ISAPI thread management we have an ISAPI application, by putting debug writes into the thread create we can see it creating multiple threads. The question is.. Is there a limit to the number of threads IIS will create for an ISAPI application, if so can we have any control over that limit ? Does IIS reference count and release threads if system useage slows down and have we any control over the time period when it does this ? We have an intermittent access violation in our application, but it appears to happen after a busy day, when usage starts to increase again in the evening. I was just wondering if IIS had released threads in the quiet period then had some problem re-creating them as usage began to increase again.     - Rewrite HTTP Header Variable Hello all, I have a SAP ITS running on top of IIS 5 - for an external authentication option with ITS I need to rewrite the http header. What should happen is: 1. Request (from external servlet) requests ITS URL on IIS 2. IIS function (whatever - that's the bit I need to write) steps in, evaluates http header contents, rewrites http header variable "remote_user" and sends request on its way to originally requested URL (from step 1) 3. It must be assured that all requests run through my filter (that is, a forged request header with same remote_user as my step 2, but not originated from my servlet of step 1 mustn't be forwarded to ITS). What would be the technology of choice to implement this? I'm not quite experienced in MS IIS, but from what I've read my guess is some ISAPI dll (written in C++) would do the trick - right?     - asp not working on vanilla NT4 I have a vanilla NT4/SP6 setup (which means IIS3) - no matter what I do I can't get asp to work! Even a simple script <% response.write "hello" %> isn't working. Have set everything to execute enabled, still nothing. It's as if there is a switch or something preventing IIS from running. If you type the URL of the code above, it comes up with exactly the text of the asp code - <% response.write "hello" %> rather than hello For an IIS application, the asp that calls the dll comes up with error http/1.0 Not supported. when it is called.     - having IIS forward to an internal web server...possible? I am running my own gateway which is actually a webserver running IIS. Now behind this gateway I have an apache server, is it possible to forward to this webserver even though it has an internal (private) ip?     - Service unavailable error in Windows 2003 server I am running about 7 ASP.NET web application in Windows 2003 server. One particular web app experiences a strange problem of crashing the application pool consistently. I looked in to the event viewer and figured that the reason for crashing is Event Id 1002 - 'Application pool 'Crashing' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.' There are also warnings logged for the crashing of worker processes in this application pool and the event id for them is either 1009 or 1011. 1009 - A process serving application pool 'Crashing' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '2968'. The process exit code was '0x7f0ea553'. 1011 - A process serving application pool 'Crashing' suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process id was '2884'. The data field contains the error number. Note: The application pool has the settings to crash if there are 5 worker process failure in 5 minutes.     - Asp pages stop responding in IIS 6 We upgraded to IIS 6 and now one of our sites will intermittantly stop responding when accessing any asp pages. We can recycle or stop and restart the worker prcess pool and it comes up for a while then freezes again.     - Anonymous Sign-In pop up Hi, I was changin the IIS configiuration in order to fix some problem. I unchecked the anonymous access once. But it did not fix my problem. So I came back to check anonymous access again, and enter IUSR_machinename and the password of the administrator password. I iisrest and restart the server, but now everytime when I access the site, the Sign-In prompt will pop up. It will no more allow anonymous access.     - content & metabase backup I know I've already asked this but when I came to action what had been suggested the post had disappeared!! So here I am again. I want to backup the content and matebase of an IIS5.0 server so that I can restore to other hardware or server. i.e. the server get destroyed in a fire. I then want to be able to get the server backup and running at my DR site using a backup of the content and metabase. what is the best method? I seen lots of ways to backup the metabase but they seem to say that the backup can't be used on another server.     - ASP app not working in IIS 6 I have taken an .asp application from Win2K Professional personal web server to a deployment on a Win 2003 IIS 6 setup. The application is a simple .asp application. The application has a simple dynamic menu on one side (frame) and a destination page for the "main" page. The menu choice passes a value to the main page to display the data. The application worked fine in the 2K setup. The issue seems to be the passing of data between the .asp pages. I get the "HTTP 500 - Internal server error " message. I am pretty sure this is happening just when the variables are being passed. If I change the code and introduce some type of error in the (main) page I will get the error message and line number etc. The problem page is using an ADO connection but the (menu) page is succesfully using an ADO connection and logic to generate itself. I have followed the instructions for changing IE config for the "HTTP 500" errors and that has not helped. I have configured the file to allow the IIS 6 user to have full access to the app folder.     - Automation Error related to dll initialization Greetings We developed an ASP web app using Interdev that interfaces with mainframe db2 databases. When browsing the app from Win XP development machines running IIS, the following error occasionally appears "Automation error A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed."     - Inetinfo.exe Hangs up I am currently running Windows 2000 Server and IIS 5. I am running multiple web site and also running Outlook web access 5.5. I am having sporadic lock ups on this system. At various times during the day I am unable to access my mailbox through OWA. I have no problems browsing the web site the link is on but after I input my credentials for access it will just sit there and try to access. I go to the servers Task Manager and the CPU column for inetinfo.exe is running anywhere from 14 - 30 or so and no other requests are able to be serviced. If I kill the Inetinfo.exe process I can then restart IIS services and everything works fine for a while. I have fought this battle for awhile starting on NT 4.0 and IIS 4 with OWA 5.5 and now With 2000 and IIS5. I can't find anything on Support that helps. Thanks in advance.     - Tracking down memory leak on 2 servers I have 3 servers that are very similar in their software components. All 3 are running Windows 2000 Server, IIS and Exchange. 2 of the 3 servers are experiencing a growth of INETINFO Private Bytes over a period of a week or 2 that renders the server completely unresponsive. I'm hoping all you brilliant folks out there can help me with some ideas of where to start looking to fix this. The 2 problem servers are running: -Windows 2000 Server - all updates installed -IIS -CA eTrust Antivirus 7.0 with the Exchange option -BackupAssist - backup scheduling program that simply uses NTBackup to do the actual work -GFI MailEssentials for anti-spam Both servers were running Exchange 2000 and exhibiting this problem; one was upgraded to Exchange 2003 and one was reinstalled with Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 from the ground up. They both still exhibit this problem. As an example, over the course of a week, upon a fresh reboot, INETINFO private bytes goes from 30,000,000 (30 megs) to 245,000,000 (245 megs). The 3rd server just had Norton Corporate AV replaced with eTrust, so I guess I'll watch it and see if that sparks this issue there as well. I just installed all updates for eTrust on one of the servers as well to see if that resolves the problem. Beyond that, I'm stumped, though. Any thoughts? Any way I can "crack open" INETINFO and see what component inside it is taking all the memory? I'm leaning toward GFI MailEssentials, and may disable it temporarily as a test. we have been getting "out-of-process isapi extension
request failed" lately. it happens when 2 users try to
upload files around the same time. we use SAFileUp to
upload. we also see in the EventLog that ASP is also
being restarted when this occurs.

has anyone encountered similar situation? please help.
