    - Difference between IIS professional/server I just have a real basic question. I have been developing asp applications on a windows 2000 professional computer with IIS 5.0. I would like to transition my applications to windows 2000 server. What is the difference between IIS 5.0 on windows 2000 professional and windows 2000 server. I know that professional has a limitation of 10 hits at a time. Does server have this same limitation also? If so, what do I need to do to allow IIS to handle more hits?     - Redirect Exchange 2003 OWA on Port 80 to Port 443 I've been struggling with redirecting sessions that connect on port 80 to our Outlook Web Access (Windows Server 2003 & Exchange 2003) to HTTPS on Port 443. I've tried changing the custom error message for 403.4 on the Exchange VS to point to a URL /owaasp/owahttps.asp with the following code, however when I enable it and restart IIS Admin Service, instead of the redirect happening sessions that connect on Port 80 get error 403 Access Denied: <% If Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_PORT")=80 Then Dim strSecureURL strSecureURL = "https://" strSecureURL = strSecureURL & Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME") strSecureURL = strSecureURL & "/exchange" Response.Redirect strSecureURL End If %> I have the Exchange VS set to Basic Authentication & Force SSL & the /owaasp directory set to allow anonymous connections.     - Requests Queued stays high I am running a database intensive asp site on a new installation of Windows 2003 I am also running performance monitor on the site to watch the requests queued value. It seems like this value likes to stay around 200, making the pages slow for the user. I am looking to find out how i can service more requests because cpu utilzation is realtively low (around 15%). I have done some looking around and found that if i up the value of AspProcessorThreadMax, this should help aleviate this problem, but i have upped it quite significantly (to 150) and it doesn't seem to be changing the performance. Am i missing any other settings? What are the max settings for this value? Maybe i am puttng the reg key in the wrog spot?     - multi-homedd domain logging I need to record Domain Names (example: www.myDomain.com, demo.myDomain.com, and test.myDomain.com) from a single IIS 5.0 Web Server instance in the single IIS logfile (for WebTrends reporting) . WebTrends has a KB article NETIQKB11235 that claims it is saved in the cs-host field in Microsoft IIS 5.0 log files, however I find that it is the servername (netbios) saved to that field.     - iis6 compatability with classic asp I have recently migrated some classic asp web sites from iis5 to iis6 and seem to be experiencing some memory problems, in particular sql server (which is running on the same machine) seems to be using exessive amounts of memory which eventually causes the box to fall over despite a more powerful machine and the same traffic levels. When I run the .msi it asks what virtual directory to install it to, but it doesn't ask which web.     - Problems with .hta page. Error code 405 I have IIS 5.0 running on a Win2000 server. I have scripts that I want to run on the web page. It was suggested to me to create an .HTA page instead of .asp or .html to make them run. The scripts now run fine, but when the action is finished, I get the error: The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because the page address is incorrect.     - Web service code does not refresh when deploying updates to a cluster We have a Windows 2000 active/passive cluster using .Net Framework 1.0. When code changes are deployed for a web service, the change does not take effect. It seems that the cache does not refresh. To get around this we were able to create a new directory and copy the new code files to that directory then change the IIS virtual directory to point to the new directory and "force" a refresh. Restarting IIS will work also. This is a successful work-around, but we would like to deploy remotely without having to log on to the cluster to change IIS configuration. Has anyone seen this issue?     - IIS 6.0 Search Problems I migrated an nt4, IIS4 server to a 2003, IIS6 box. The search "engine" has been broken ever since. I am unable to get anything other than the contents of the query.idq page. I use the nt4 search sample pages basically, adjusted for my server. I'm using search.html that takes the user input and feeds it to query.idq for the search and the results come back formatted from query.htx. This all worked flawlessly for years on the nt4 box, it ran itself, never had any problems. I know I have index server setup correctly. I have one catalog that points to the root of the web, the catalog itself is 177MB now. I would tune all of this between index server and the query.idq page, but I can't get a basic setup to work. If I submit a query through index serve's query form, it works no problem and returns more than enough, too many because the scope is so broad now. Everything else about this site is fine and healthy. It's the only site that needs search so I don't use it on other sites on this box. However, the search is just as broken on the development 2003 IIS6 box that mirrors this one. The other sites on this box are fine, although they don't use the search/index server stuff.     - WebDAV security on IIS problems Hey All, I have been beating my head over this one for a long time. It has to do with setting up a WebDAV folder in IIS and setting permissions on that folder to two accounts - one with read access and the other with full. From all the documentation, this should be a simple task. WebDAV is supported by default on all IIS folders and virtual folders. Here is an article from Microsoft describing how easy it should be done: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323470&Product=iis50 The article is pretty straight forward and I have followed it to the letter. I can get WebDAV to work, the problem lies in setting the security on the folder to restrict or allow access. Here is what I have tried and I am hoping there is someone out ther who has worked with this before. Here is the configuration: I have one Windows 2000 (SP4 and all latest patches) member server behind a firewall with IIS 5 installed. Let's call this server WEB1. I have a web site in IIS (with its own IP) whose directory contents are on a share on another computer in the same domain behind the same firewall. The server that hosts the source files for the web site (not running IIS) is a Windows 200 (SP4 and all latest patches) domain controller. Let's call this server FILE1. The current web site has been established for many years and has been working without a hitch the whole time. The client is interested in being able to upload files to a folder within the website (let's call the folder "webdav-upload"). They would like to have two separate accounts to access the contents of this folder. One account has Read Only access to that folder and the other has Full Access to that folder. I can get WebDAV access to that folder, the problem is that I cannot get authentication to work as I would like. Here is how I proceeded to setup this configuration: 1.) Within the website on WEB1, I created a Virtual Directory called "Webdav-Upload". This Virtual Directory point to a a share on FILE1. The Connect as box in the Virtual Directory's properties is using the IUSER_SHARE account (we have specified the password for this account and do not let the server manage the password although this should have no bearing on this). 2.) The Virtual Directory connects just fine with no Red X. I have enabled Directory Browsing, Read, Write and Excute permissions on the folder. 3.) I disabled annonymous access to the folder and then enabled Basic Authentication and specified the default logon domain. 4.) I then created 2 user accounts in the Domain called "WedDav-Read" and WebDav-Full". 5.) Gave both accounts the Log On Locally right to the Domain Controllers OU Group Policy and ran the SECEDIT refresh. 6.) On FILE1, the share that the Virtual Directory connects to has full control for the Everyone Group. 7.) On the folder underneath that share (one folder deep), I have set the NTFS permissions as follows: I disabled inheritance of permission and removed all inherited permissions. I then assigened the following permissions: Domain Admins Full Control WebDav-Full Full Control WebDav-Read Read, List Folder Contents, Read & Execute IUSR_SHARE Read 8.) I then reset these permissions on all child objects. 9.) Then from a remote location outside on the Internet, I used the My Network Places to create a new network place. I put in the full URL: http://FQDN/webdav-upload 10.) It then prompted me for permissions and kept prompting me and would fail. I could never connect. I tried the following change to the above configuration to try and get it working. 1.) I enabled Annonymous access on the virtual directory and removed basic authentication to have the NTFS permissions provide the security. - This would allow me to connect but gave me the permissions of the IUSER_SHARE as that was the account in the Connect As box in the Virtual Directory's properties. How else can I get this working? Has anyone successfully gotten this configuration to work? There is little to no troubleshooting documentation for Microsoft's IIS and WebDAV. Please help! Thanks!     - IIS home directory redirection I have IIS 5 running on a Windows 2000 server with DNS installed. This used to host a website, which has now been transfered to another IIS server running on a Windows XP workstation, and the home directory for this website on the 2000 server has been redirected to the URL of the new IIS server eg http://workstationname. The site works from within the internal LAN however when a client connects externally the request is redirected but fails to connect. I belive that the DNS request for the http://workstationame is not being handled by the local DNS server but is being pushed back to the clients own DNS servers. Does anyone know how to rectify this?     - FrontPage and Server Extensions I am running IIS 6.0 with FrontPage server extensions 2002. Everything seems to be working perfect with the subwebs and within FrontPage 2000. However FrontPage is extremely slow in downloading the web from the server. For example if I were sitting at my machine and went to the webpage and then from the toolbar select "edit with frontpage". It will eventually load just fine but it is extremely slow sometimes taking 10 minutes or a lot more! If I reboot the server and then try to load a subweb from within FrontPage it loads relatively fast but it will eventually go extremely slow after a while.     - Can't start IIS-6.0 Instance Folks: Intersting problem with IIS-6.0 I got it up and running, turned on SSL, then used the HTTPCFG tool to turn off socket pooling as I have another process that wants 80 on one of the IPs on the NIC. As soon as I did that (all of this via Terminal Services) the website stopped and couldn't be restarted. From within the IIS Service Manager (running locally on the server) if I right click the site and try to start the site I get an error message saying "The network location cannot be reached. Blah blah blah" I looked at the W3SVC1 log files and anything else I could think of. I even tried uninstalling IIS, blowing away the Inetpub dir and reinstalling; no dice. As soon as I restart the site (or the IIS manager) the site somes up with the "stopped" icon and gives the above error message on start attempts. I'm running this on Win-2003 Server on a 1U server w/ dual AMDs and a wad of RAM and storage and not much else. Anyone have any idea where to go next? Log files? Something? I'd rather not have to reinstall the OS. BTB, I have run this same application configuration w/ no problems w/ II-5.0, I suspect something about the changes in 6.0 + need to use serious voodoo to disable socket pooling may be causing th problem.     - XP PRO with IIS 5.1 Error Hi Everybody, I am using Win XP PRo SP1 and IIS 5.1. After installing IIS 5.1 and trying to access my localhost through my web browser, I receive the 501 Error.     - Outlook Express error messages We have just gotten Comcast and am trying to get Outlook express to work with email. I've gone through wizards and followed all the directions over and over and keep getting error messages " Host Smtp could not be found Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly Acct POP3 Server SmtP etc etc. I of course verified the entry of the server name over and over. Bummer. Easily fixed, but not using IIS. You may discover the fix in
an Outlook Express group though...
