    - Problem with CGI-Executables on Windows2000 Advanced Server with IIS5 Hi there, i have several executables (*.exe) on an windows2000 advanced server running internet information services 5.0. The exe-Application produce console-output. When i launch the files on the server they do not display their results in the command-box but shortly a white window pops up (only for a very short moment). The executables where developed in objectpascal (aka delhi) and compiled with that. These executables are real console-apps. IUSR_[WEBSERVER-NAME] has full rights on the cgi-bin. I've also set the "CreateCGIWithNewConsole"-Thing in the metabase to TRUE (BOOL=1). What else do i need to tell my iis to do??? It always throws out that the headers are incomplete and the cgi-app misbehaved. The Application looks like this: assignfile(coutp,''); rewrite(coutp); writeln(coutp,'HTTP/1.1 200 OK'); writeln(coutp,'Content-type: text/html'); writeln(coutp); // this writes the extra CR for the headers this is the part of the headers so far ... please help me!     - Help: How to defend against IIS bashing Hi, We're selling an IIS based web app and are met with an increasing (so it seems) anti-IIS "attitude" in the marketplace, especially in Germany. Potential customers back away when they hear we only support IIS.     - Upgrading from IIS 5.1 to IIS 6.0 Hi All, I have Windows XP Pro installed, along with IIS 5.1. Im looking to upgrade my version of IIS to version 6.0, but dont really know how to go about doing it. Do I need to buy a new copy of Windows XP, or do I purchase IIS 6.0 on a separate CD, or can I download and IIS 5.x to IIS 6.0 upgrade from somewhere, etc...     - Defective Copy of IIS? I installed IIS to my WinXP Pro computer, and restarted it (by the way, my ASP pages were working fine prior to restarting). When it was restarting, I did not see the usual shutdown screen, but the popup version one (as if I had switched to classic mode instead of the xp default). Anyway, I thought nothing of it and waited for it to restart. It went through POST fine, and got to the Windows splash screen, but when the welcome screen was supposed to show up, the screen went black and would not respond for about 10-20 seconds upon which it would restart the computer. This continued in an endless loop no matter what I tried (starting in safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc.) So, I decided to format and install from an image I had taken prior to installing IIS. With the system up and working properly again, I tried installing IIS with the minimum options I needed (Common Files, IIS snap-in, and WWW server). This resulted in the same problem. Any suggestions? BTW...I have Norton Systemworks 2003 Pro, and since I heard Norton Antivirus sometimes causes problems when installing software, I disabled it before performing these steps.     - IDC/HTX pages and UPDate not working Hi all I have an old application I wrote on NT4 with (I think) IIS 3. It uses IDC/HTX pairs to read a system DSN to an access database for creating, searching and modifying jobs for photographers. I'm now trying to get it running on a Win2K server running whatever IIS version shipped with them and all the search functions work fine but I get a 500 error page when I try and change an existing record using "update table set table.field=% value%" My question is - has something changed between IIS versions to stop IDC/HTX pairs working to update data (similar to the Access 2000 not being able to update Access 97 databases)? If so how can I fix it so that it works again, or alternatively if it's not diferent now - who can help me get the IDC/HTX pages working again? I have looked at the MS site and found an IDC/HTX -> .asp converter program, but never having dealt with .asp before I'm loath to try it (and anyway all I get is errors trying to run the generated .asp pages). We have a simple cookie being set so people don't have to login to our site everday. However, cookies keep vanishing after a day or two and I havn't been able to work it out. I can actually see the cookie in my "Cookies" folder, however it has a [2] at the end, ie. daniel@www.miningnews[2].txt. Now, if I go back to the site 1,2 or 3 days later (the number of days varies randomly), it does not find the existing cookie, and creates a guestcookie, which I can see as daniel@www.miningnews[1].txt (anyone know the explanation for this ?) Three of us have tested all the cookie creation code, checked all of the if's etc and they all work as expected. Just after a few days, I'll find I'm no longer logged in. I have a virtual directory and in IIS manager all subfolders and itself Anonymous has access. But in NTFS permissions I have given only two accounts permissions in some of these folders; System; Administrator. If someone on the Internet tried to access these folders they get the prompt you mention.     - problem with SMTP When I first installed Win Server 2003, I added the "application server" role and then the "pop3/smtp" role. When I opend IIS, I could find the SMTP section in the configruation panel. I removed the POP3/SMTP role for some reason. When I added it again, the SMTP part doesn't show anymore under IIS. I thought removing everything and starting over would solve the problem. I removed both roles, and then added them in the same order I did before. Unfortunately, I still can't see it in IIS. Is there a simple way to make it show under IIS? I want to configure it, but I don't know how. I checked and made sure the SMTP service is running.     - Global.asa refresh?? Hi everyone, In our local development environment which obviously runs asp, how do you refresh the global.asa for a particular virtual directory. Although I go into IIS --> the particular virtual directory --> and right click on the global.asa --> and hit refresh the changes aren't reflected. It seems as if I have to completely restart the machine for the changes to be reflected? It's really frustrating and a waste of time, can anyone please clear this up for me. I've restarted IIS and that doesn't seem to work either.... is there a way to reflect changes without restarting the machine?     - IISADMPWD IIS 6.0 and application pools I have enabled the Change Password Flags on my IIS 6.0 web server. It works as expected if the Web Application if Interest is running in the same App Pool as the IISADMPWD application. So if I run my web app in the Default Application Pool then I am redirected to the IISADMPWD application when my password expires. If I run my web app in it's own Application Pool (AppPoolX) and also run the IISADMPWD application in AppPoolX then it functions as expected. My problem is comes down to the fact that I have 3 intranet applications that all require the same change password functionality. When I run the two in seperated app pools I receive a 403 Access is denied page. I wonder is there some way to make this work besides creating individual web instances for each of these three web applications? Remembe that the location of each of the files with in the IISADMPWD are defined at the /W3SVC level of the metadata.     - IIS renaming files to lowercase Hello. We had to migrate development servers. Copied our SourceSafe database to the new server. Then I created new, but empty webs in IIS. Went under the Properties -> Server Extensions -> Version Control -> External... pointed it to the source of the web already in SourceSafe, and it did pull the contents from SourceSafe right into IIS. BUT... every directory and filename that had some capitalization in it, whether at the beginning of the name or in the middle... everything was forced to lowercase. I have found no KB articles on this. If I do the same steps but client-side (by creating an empty web in InterDev and then doing a Change Connection) once again IIS or FPSE are lowercasing everything that comes out of SourceSafe.     - event ID 2003: aspperf.dll and infoctrs Hi All, just installed win 2003 std server and started Performance monitor to see how the things are running, but I get two errors in Application Event Viewer: "The configuration information of the performance library .... infoctrs.dll / aspperf.dll for the InetInfo/ASP service doesn't match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted." Now, I have a site on IIS6, made in asp and using a MS Access database - will it stop to work, or what? What could be the consequences? I searched the KB, and found some thing that are similar, but they are for win2000 server, and about some FAT related errors, but the server is NTFS (btw, they sugest some "unlodctr" and "lodctr" which I don't know). In some other article there is suggested that those services should be reinstalled... It all sounds a bit scary, I think....! :o) Well, our web site is still running, and I hope it will keep on running, but I would really want to know what is happening now - I kept the installation nice and clean, and now all of the sudden I get those errors...     - asp pages quit working Beginner to asp/sql. I have a package that we purchased which consists of 7 .asp pages, that I have run a sql script that connects to a database. Everything was working great - connected to the database with different user id's and passwords and brought up the corresponding user accounts - until I began to modify the package by changing a logo gif, font and font colors, and footer text. When I go to logon to the site with my user name and password, nothing happens , no error message, nothing. Any ideas on what happened?     - IISAdmin problems I'm having problems with the Administration web site in IIS 5.0. The admin site is set up to accept integrated authentication only. When it is accessed, the username/password/domain prompt appears. It accepts empty values and the admin site is then usable.     - POST Problem I have seen references to this in the archive but no solution. I have a site that needs to know the NT User but also needs to use Annonymous access. To do this I have created a entry site which uses Integrated Security. On this single page site I grab the user name and redirect to the annonymous site. Unfortunately I now cannot use the post method on any of the other ASP pages. I have seen references that say this is caused by having virtual directories with different security modes. Is there a way around this? I really do not want to have to use the GET method everywhere. Has anyone seen/fixed/got around this issue? I assume that these ten are in the same category, and reside on a par with the famous "Default Web Site". Is that correct? How many web sites can Win XP & IIS 5.1 have? How do you create them? Is this the same as creating a "virtual directory" in Win XP? (I am beginning to get the sense I am going to need Win 2003 Server.) Does "Default Web Site | Properties | Web Site Identification | Advanced | Multiple Identities for this Web Site" mean that many names point to a single site (big deal) or is it, as some of the how-to papers seem to imply, a way to maintain multiple sites under one IP, all of which are available to an Internet browser? (I can't get it to have any sort of positive effect yet, so please pardon the question.) Is this the same as 'host headers'? If not, what are they for? (I'm defining 'Multiple Web Sites' as site #1 www.aaa.com about, say, cars; site #2 www.bbb.com, about food; and, site #3 www.ccc.com about dating. All three would be registered domains, and reside on a single machine.)     - Property Sheets not opening in ISM Hello all, got a problem here that just surfaced and I cannot figure out what's going on... When I access the Internet Service Manager (ISM) via a browser, I can log into it and see the basic administration interface. I can see all my websites and I can start, stop and pause them. However I cannot access their property pages at all. Nor can I access the master property pages. Once I select a site, it highlights, I click the "properties" link on the left, it says "Loading" down at the bottom and the activity indicator in the browser status bar looks like its loading a page. Then the "Loading" text dissapears and that's that, no property sheet, nothing. This worked fine on the previous build of my W2K Server but after our last build it does not. The only major changes (software wise) was the updated to Win2K SP4. I have also replicated this behavior on my local development/testing server. Any ideas? I need to be able to access these property sheets remotely as our production server is several miles away and requires a appointment scheduled in advance to even gain access to it for management/maint.     - MS Internet Services Manager Question... Howdy all, we're running IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 Server and recently we had to to a rebuild of our server. Before the rebuild I was able to access the IIS management console via a web browser and perform all the normal functions available for the multiple sites we have hosted on our server.     - frozen IIS6 (win2003srvr) - no error messages Hi All, we have a little web-site written in asp showing a MS Access database, and we just moved it from II5 (win2000 server) to II6 (win2003server). Windows 2003 server is a clean new installation on a totally new machine, and I was testing the site on it before it went in production. Everything went just fine (apart from that some pictures had "%" in their names, and 2003 couldn't show them, but then I changed the names and now it works fine) Friday night I moved the site from 2000 to 2003 server, and I've been checking the site during the weekend - there were no problems. But today (monday) it happend that all of the sudden the web-site couldn't be shown - now it happened 2 times, thats why I am writing this post, since it seems that that is a problem that will be coming up once in a while. When one tries to access the site, everything looks like it should, but the site just doesn't come up, and after a while IE shows this error (coused by time-out). The connection to the server works fine, and when I open IIS manager, all sites seems to be working. I can even start and stop the web-sites within IIS manager, and there are no problems, everything looks fine. But starting and stopping the web site didn't help - problem vanished first when I stopped the whole IIS service, and started it again. The first sign of a problem showed up during the service shutdown - it took over a minute to shut the service down, and Event viewer come up with at message that goes something like " ...there was a timeout trying to stop the service....". But strange thing is that when this problem happens, there is no errors on the server: not even Event viewer shows any problems. What could it be? We've tested our .NET webapp on two different machines : (a) Windows 2000 / IIS5 and (b) Windows 2003 / IIS6.     - fp2002 extensions on 2003 I have setup a new Server 2003 system w/IIS6. I was unable to migrate my websites from my old NT4.0 / IIS system (which had fp2002 extensions on it). So I copied the files to my new system, configured the websites, pointed to the newly copied subfolders and then 'Configure(ed) Server Extensions 2002' (from the Tasks menu). After I type in the admin password, an html screen says 'Configuring fp extensions (or something like that) - there is no termination message -thats it. Upon checking the server extensions tab in the web it claims that an old version of extensions is installed and to upgrade from the tasks menu - I do that and get the same thing- no termination message and it still thinks it needs upgrading.     - WWW publishing service will not start after W2K SP4 installation After installing SP4 on a W2k machine the WWW publishing service and SMTP service will not start automatically on a reboot. I can start these services manually. Both of these service are running under the local system account. The first Event message is "The IIS Admin Service failed to start due to the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service." The IIS Admin Service actually does start despite the message. WWW service does not start with the following message: "The World Wide Web Publishing Service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service.     - installation problem with IIs and ftp Does anyone have suggestions for this situation: I just installed XP pro and as an added component I installed IIs and with that I was particularly interested in the FTP server you get with it.
