 - Migrated site has no local IUSR account permissions We've migrated the IIS 5.0 site successfully to the new W2K server, and all the domain-level permissions work great. However, b/c the IUSR account on the new the box does not automatically have read permissions, and now accessing the site prompts for a login -- ARGH! This is a large site, complex directory structure, and going in every directory with individual permissions and setting this would be a huge pain. Any suggestions as to how we could get this set this in an automated-recursive fashion without blowing all the other permissions would be great! Thanks much, Chuck W.  - IIS cannot write log file Hi all, I am using win2k3 + IIS6 in my production environment. I have configured the IIS write a log file for every request, it works fine before, however, I find that start from last week, the log file is missing, ie IIS does not write out any log file, the latest log file is on 2004-12-02.  - Problem with Servers.... NO access due to ACL I'm running windows 2003 enterprise server w/IIS6 and it keeps coming up with this error no matter what i try.... would anyone happen to know what i can do... if i type JUST http://localhost it works fine... but if i try to move to something like http://localhost/files it pops up a Username and password box... if anyone knows what i can do PLEASE let me know... i'm losing money since my services arn't online. Everything worked great on WinXP Pro. but now i need more so any help would be appreciated. I downloaded all updates from Windowsupdate.com so that isnt it. let me know...  - IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 crashes randomly IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 crashes randomly - Some times it can go for a week and more, some times for a couple hours before it seems to just give up serving pages. IISreset always fixes the problem, but what is the cause of the problem? No error messages in the event log, no error messages in the IIS log files for the sites... The server was even doing this when running only a very simple site - no code to execute, just some included files for page layout - with only 5 or so visitors a day. When all sites were running on Server 2000 everything was dandy... Any ideas? Reinstall IIS? Rebuild the 2003 server? Rebuild the server as 2000 instead?  - prevent directory browsing except through WebDAV Hey folks, Is it possible to prevent directory browsing of a folder hosted on IIS6 except when accessed via a web folder through WebDAV?  - Server.CreateObject failing after 15 minutes of inactivity on virtual I am using a COM object that I am able to create/destroy on a given virtual as long as the virtual has at least one request every 15 minutes. If more than 15 minutes pass I receive the error message below when I attempt to create this object: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : c0000005' Server.CreateObject Failed /foo/bar.asp, line 2 c0000005 If the virtual (with application protection in high/medium/low) is unloaded the script will work as stated above. Other pages in the virtual are able to be served, as long as they don't attempt to create the given COM object. I have looked at the threads in the dllhost.exe process before and after the 15 minute point and 4 threads go away.  - IIS6.0 and PHP using ISAPI Hello! Did anyone experienced anykind of problems using PHP with IIS6.0? I am using php4isapi.dll as Web service extension and sometimes PHP somehow "blocks".  - Smart relay for specific domains Hi, I'm having a hard time trying to find some registry tweaks (because there are no such options with the graphical interface in IIS Admin) that would allow me to send mail *to some domains only* using a smartserver; in all (95%) other cases, the SMTP engine would send mail directly, as intended. Has anyone found a hidden setting for this scenario? or is it just impossible to do so with the vanilla SMTP engine of IIS? IIS 6.0, XP SP2 here.  - IIS 6.0 and SQL Server 2000 We have a IIS 6.0 server connected to a SQL Server 2000 Cluster that is tracking click throughs. The problem is that for some reason for about 5 minutes, _randomly_, it stops it's connection to SQL Server. We have extended the number of available ports and time outs. We are using connection pooling and I have watched it while it happens and nothing seems to jump out...CPU usage, memory usage, etc. on either box doesn't seem to be significant at all. It's almost as if it is some kind of IIS bug. Also, some times, with the same server and another we have in a load balance network, some websites we create can have a delay response of 4-5 seconds on plain static content when other pages that are ASP.NET can response 50 times per second in the same load balance network.  - Visual InterDev cannot connect to IIS website (with FPSE2002)! Help!!! Hello! 1. I have Visual InterDev installed on my machine (VS SP5) 2. At the corporate firewall I defined a rule "me to any destinations" (in advance, I would exclude ISA Server 2004 Standard Edition from causing this problem in any way). 3. On my web server IIS 6.0 (with FP Server Extensions 2002 installed) I created a website and configured it to use FPSE. When I create a new project in InterDev, I select "Master mode", then Web Project Wizard _connects_ me to the web site I want - it then displays a prompt stating "Contacting Web Server..." and suddenly brings out a "Name and Password Required" dialog box! I identify as an administrator of the WEB SERVER (!) but it doesn't help! InterDev DOES NOT want to connect, saying that I do not have permissions at the Web server. The proble is that I can connect, but cannot do the authoring! IIS logs displays this: date time: "2004-12-10 17:59:00" s-ip: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" cs-method: "POST" cs-uri-stem: "/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll" cs-uri-query: "-" s-port: "80" cs-username: "-" c-ip: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" cs(User-Agent): "MSFrontPage/3.0" sc-status: "401" sc-substatus: "1" sc-win32-status: "2148074248" The most curious are the last three - 401.1 is a HTTP Error - "Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials" But WHY??! I use correct credentials of a user who is a member of Domain Admins and Administrators groups at the Web Server machine! I couldn't find what Win32 Error "2148074248" is but obviously this could mean something like "get off!"  - Error 403 setting default aspx Hello. I'm trying to set/change a default page on my web server. If left at \root message "under contruction" apears. When I try to set it to new website \companyname it returns 403-Forbidden error. I can type the complete url http://xx.xx.xxx.xxx/webname/index.aspx and it work fine.  - IIS 6.0 automatic ip address and domain name restrictions It appears as though IIS 6.0 is adding random IP addresses to the ip address and domain name restrictions list. Is there an enhancement in IIS 6.0 that automatically adds ip addresses based on failed authentication attempts? If so, how do I disable this feature.  - IIS 6 Impersonation Question Background Info: Win 2K3 server running IIS 6 and Oracle 9.2 on a Win 2K3 domain. Clients connect to the website using Windows Authentication. IIS impersonates the user's credentials connecting to Oracle which allows ASP to dynamically build output with Oracle data based on the client's identity. What I need to do (Yes, I know it's a giant step back): Drop the Win 2K3 server from the Win 2K3 domain and add it to an NT4 domain. Have IIS continue to impersonate the user's credentials for the Oracle connection, etc. I've set up this configuration and IIS tries to impersonate the client but the NT4 domain will not authenticate the user. Oracle will still do operating system authenticated connection when I'm logged onto the Win 2K3 server. I've put a packet sniffer on the NT4 DC and the only symptom I get is "Station not on Domain's Computer List". I go into "Server Manager" and the 2K3 server is listed. When I try to display properties I get a message "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". Any ideas how to make this configuration work?  - Setting up a secure FTP Server in Windows 2000 I'm using Windows 2000 Server SP4. I have IIS services enabled along with the FTP server option.  - Finding an IP address that connected to an IIS Server? Is there any way to get an external IP address that connected to our IIS Server? I know the specific time and date. Is there any log file that I can find this information? Here's the scoop. We had a laptop stolen from a salesman. On this laptop is a program called BelManage which reports into our servers once a day with information on hardware/software change, etc. I have a time and date (after the laptop was stolen) that this BelManage client reported into our servers. Unfortunatly, the theif was behind a router (internal 192 ip address) Shouldn't there be an external ip address recorded somewhere with a time and date stamp that connected to our IIS server?  - IIS State Log Analysis This is the first time I ran this awaiting a hang. The threads were recorded shortly after running the program and the server did not hang so........ here are the results.  - Using IIS 5.1 Really baffled on getting my webserver up and running. I have Windows XP and have installed IIS 5.1. All i want to do is post one page up on the net and simple cant work it out.  - Index Server Catalog - Search returns no results We recently added a lot of new files to our Intranet website. The search results returned by Index Server were incorrect. It was returning hits for documents where the search terms did not exist. I assumed the index had somehome become corrupted, so I deleted, and recreated it. The Indexing Service MMC says that the indexing process is complete, however when I go to do a search on the web site, it returns 0 results regardless of what I type in. I'm using the IDQ and HTX files I've had on the server for over a year. I put the catalog in the same location, so no changes to the code should be necessary. Any idea on how to fix the problem.  - IIS not starting with XP pro SP2 I am a domain admin at a software development company. All our development desktops are running IIS, SQL server, VS6, and VS.net. From a clean install of xp with sp2 we install IIS and it runs. We have the Firewall disabled and the only type of symantec product we run is VS. However after a couple reboots IIS gets killed with this: The IIS Admin service hung on starting. Then we get..... The IIS Admin service terminated with service-specific error 2147549183 (0x8000FFFF). Then... The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service depends on the IIS Admin service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. And... The World Wide Web Publishing service depends on the IIS Admin service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. Finally when i go into services and try to manually start IIS Admin i get: Windows could not start IIS Admin on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Even Log. This this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147418113. This also happens if we install XP SP2 from SP1. Any ideas?  - Virtual Directory "PAge Not Found" Problems Hi, I'm just trying to get into setting up my companies internal website and would like to use a Virtual Directory to access some files. However, after I have set one up, any files I try to access in there e.g. test.htm, just ends up with a 404 Not Found. Now, if I put the same test.htm file in say the _layouts folder, then it works. By the same logic, if I copy one of the existing virtual directory files e.g. _layous/1033/selcolor.htm and put that in my virtual directory, then I also get a 404. I am accessing the site via https://[ipaddres]:444/ and would like all links etc to be accessible via the internet for our employees, hence the need for the virtual server. We have SBS2003 with IIS6.  - Trouble setting up multiple web site identities Have some difficulty setting up multiple web sites on IIS 5.0, W2K server - still, after reading all the documentation. This is what we want: Primary web site - www.myprimary.com get there via IP address (only one IP address comes to server), or www.myprimary.com or myprimary.com Secondary web site - www.mysecond.com get there via www.mysecondary.com or mysecond.com. Questions: If I set up the primary Web Stie Identfication - Advanced properties with the IP address selected and no Host Header Name, and the secondary site with no IP Address but with Host Header Name set to www.mysecond.com and mysecond.com, it works for the primary site, but requests to the secondary site also go to the primary site. If I set up all sites with the IP Address set (not All Unassigned), then where will a request by IP address go to? Do I set up the primary only with an IP address AND set the Host Header Name to www.myprimary.com, etc, and secondary without an IP address, but with the Host Header Name set to www.mysecond.com, etc?  - IIS won't serve PDF I'm running a website on SBS2003 that has many PDF files for downloading. The other day, PDF's stopped serving up correctly in users browsers. The first time you try to view a PDF in IE, a blank window opens. If I click to refresh the window, the PDF loads fine. If I try to view the PDF in Firefox, it won't load at all. If I right click the link and save it to my local drive, then open it from the browser, it works fine. So I believe something is wrong with the way my server is serving the PDF's.  - Problem with Response.Redirect and Proxy Server I am using IIS 5.0 and IE 6.0. I have a page that implements a response.redirect to "abc.asp". But I get a 404 file not found error. The web server sits behind a proxy and unfortunately SSL is on. I'm trying to either locate known problems (KB doesn't seem to have any), or to find out how I can see the contents of the 302 that the browser receives so that I can see the URL that it is trying to redirect to. For some reason the proxy server people say they have no logs for me to examine - so I'm left to wonder just want URL the browser is attempting to reach. I have found sniffers, but I am on SSL and I haven;t yet found a way to see the header as it is received by the browser. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  - Unable to load SSL filter in IIS5.0 (sspifilt.dll) My Win2K professional (SP4) machine runs an IIS5.0 web server with Frontpage2K extensions. Everything works OK except that I can't get SSL to work. I installed a certificate following the MS guidelines. BUT: The ISAPI tab via the web server properties in the IIS manager shows a big fat red arrow pointing down. The priority is *Unknown*. The SSL filter (sspifilt.dll) is located in C:\WINNT\system32\inetsrv\ Attempts to browse the same web pages via https fail (obviously). I tried nearly everything. Dear MS IIS Community, I have 3 IIS servers handeling internal requests to domain test.co.uk plus one domino server which has the default intranet site. The primary IIS server (server a) handles the initial requests this has a dns entry against the test.co.uk and holds the websphere plugin for notes. All works fine when connecting to the default intranet page. However, this page has links to 2 IIS sites each on a seperate server. I ran it from the command line with the following syntax: c:\iisstate>iisstate -p 1440 -d -sc. It came up version 6.2.0013.1. The output and symbols folders were created.  - Can not see the SMTP in IIS Manager. Running IIS 5. I'm not sure what I did but I can not longer see the SMTP under Internet Service Manager. I see "web" and all my web sites, but no SMTP. SMTP still works b/c my web sites are still emailing forms to me. I haven't been hacked and I don't have a virus. I checked the log files and the only mails going out are the ones from my websites, which is correct. I looked under "View" but didn't see anything. I stop/restarted the SMTP service and still didn't show up. I even uninstall SMTP and reinstall SMTP and I can still not see it in IIS Manager. Please help.  - IIS 6 / WebSphere / JSP configuration query Hi, I have set up Win2k3 Server, IIS6 and WebSphere Application Server 5.1 to test some configuration options. I've got it to a position where there are multiple virtual hosts, all of which can serve static pages and ASP content, and via the iisWASPlugin the default Websphere Application which allows the /snoop servlet to be run against each virtual machine. So; all is well and good... except... I can't get any of the hosts to serve a .JSP page - I simply get a 404 error despite the file being in the correct physical location. I've tried bypassing IIS and sending the request direct to the application server, eg http://myhost:9080/test.jsp and still all I get is a 404 error. In IIS 6 I've added a Web Service Extension for iisWASPlugin and enabled it so I'm pretty sure that the request should be getting through to WebSphere but I cannot figure out how to tell it to handle the requests.  - Server Certificate Hi, I had SSL Certificate Installed on IIS 5 (Exchange 2000 installed ) and upon expiry of the certificate, we had to remove the certificate to add a new one, which is locally generated. Not sure - do you have a publicly available URL that we could have a look
at?

Have you checked your IIS log files to see whether the request is actually
making it to IIS, and what HTTP status IIS has given the request (200, 404,
500 etc)?

Do you happen to use ZoneAlarm as firewall? There has been some strange
problems with that firewall.

I can recommend you to check your IIS logfiles if the file is requested. Can
you also try to request the file only (typing the URL to the file in the
browser).

Does this happen for some PCs only, or does it happen for all? Does it work
sometimes, and then suddenly stop working? I have seen these kind of
problems where the network did not work properly. So, have you noticed any
network related problems?
