    - Help with Debug Diag report We are having problems with an app pool crashing. In some case the pool just recycles but in others the server just goes off the network. I am able to reach it by the remote access card and recycle the pool manually. The server will almost immediately become available over the production network after that. I am attempting to use the debug diag tool to troubleshoot but it may be beyond my abilities to read these things. I am posting the upper part of a memory report. Any help would be appreciated.     - IIS7 disabled directory browsing returning 403 instead of default.aspx This is probably an embarrassingly simple problem but I can't seem to find an answer. I'm testing an existing site which is a mix of ASP/ASPX with ISAPI filters and trying to get it to run on IIS7. I have the pool configured as 32 bit and classic pipeline. The various pages seem to work fine but I can't seem to get the default documents to work. E.g., http://mysite.domain.com/ should simply execute default.aspx. I have directory browsing turned off and default.aspx is at the top of the default document list. Visiting default.aspx specifically works fine.     - IIS is serving my web.config file I've been googling and asking around without much luck. I'm not really sure if this is an IIS issue or .net issue, but I thought I'd give it a try in here too: I'm trying to temporarily shut down a site and redirect everyone to a page explaining why. To do that, I turned off the old site in IIS and turned on a different default site, and then set a custom 404 error page. Of course, that only redirects all requests for non-aspx files. To accomodate the requests for aspx files, I added to the web.config file to handle that: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="movingmessage.html"> <error statusCode="404" redirect="movingmessage.html"/> </customErrors> This works on the local server, but when I try and access a page on the 'old' site from my web browser, instead of the redirect happening, IIS is sending my actual web.config file to my web browser. IE is actually loading the config file as an XML file (which it is, of course).     - Workerprocess Hi, Win2003, IIS6: Under ApplicationPool/Properties the idle timeout in minutes is not activated. I think, that I have a better performance with this setting. Could this setting still give me some problems in the near future? I think becaus of this setting I have an event under system with id 1074 from the source W3SVC: A worker process with process id of "<process id>" serving application pool "DefaultAppPool" has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit. However, there is no process running on Windows 2008. Web Server (IIS) depends on WAS, apphostsvc and w3svc.     - IIS6 Manager Can't Connect I have a server with MOSS 2007 SP1 and Reporting Services 2005 SP2 installed along with several ASP.NET 2.0 applications. All of this runs fine without error, but after about a day after a reboot, I can not connect to IIS with the IIS Manager. I can connect to a remote IIS using the IIS Manager on this machine, but I can not connect to IIS on this machine from a IIS Manager on a remote machine. I do not find any errors in the event viewer or any log files. Also, if I try to restart WWW service, it hangs while stopping. I can only fix this by rebooting the server.     - Using an Alternate Port and no scripts will run - cause 404?? We recently set up a Windows 2003 server, with 1.1 and 2.0 .NET Framework. We are accessing the server through port 81. The problem is when any asp or aspx file tries to run, the server reports a 404 error. HTM files work fine. Is this a permission issue or something else?     - Authentication timeout Does anyone know how to increase the timeout period between authentication challenges? This appears to be quite different than connection or keep-alive tieouts. I suspect that this epriod may be controlled by both IIS and IE We're running Windows 2003 Server, SP2, IE6 or IE7 using Digest Authentication. BTW, this problem is much worse using IE7 as "Automatic logon with cxurrent username and password" does not appear to work with that browser.     - Cannot change password in OWA for a user in a child domain Hi Good Day, When a user tries to change his/her password in OWA, they get the message "The specified domain or account did not exist". I'm supporting a Windows 2000/Exchange 2000 environment. Exchange is in a front-end/back-end configuration. The user can login to OWA, and gets the pop-up window to change the password.     - IIS6 cgi (exe) issues Greetings -- I am having trouble getting an application set up on IIS 6 properly. I have created a website with a virtual directory. The virtual directory is set to "Scripts and Executables" for execute permissions (the files are .exe). There is no MIME type set for .exe. There is no mapping that I can tell. I have set a web service extension up for these files (I even set to "Allow All Unknown CGI"). Yet when I try to access the page (IE7) I get a blank page. I have just move my Web server to VMWare, applied all security patches and suddenly my intranet access to the documents on mapped shared drive stopped. This causes automatic shut-down of the application's IIS Application Pool, which in turn causes a "Service Unavailable" error for all connected clients, effectively stopping the web application. Recycling the affected AppPool gets the app back on line without restarting IIS. The problem occurs: - When multiple users simultaneously access the application on the affected web application.     - Unable to browse default website Hi, Whenever I try to browse the default web site, either on my server or from another machine on the LAN, I get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. The website is encountering problems. There might be a typing error in the address. " -The website is listening on port 80 (confirmed by telnet) on all adapters. There is no firewall etc blocking access and no other programs listening on this port. -Anonymous access is allowed -The files at c:\inetpub\wwwroot seem ok -There are no IP restrictions I've setup logging but no log files seem to be created.     - content-location I am completely baffeled right now. I have a vulnerability scan done on my server and it is complaining that I have the CVE: CVE-2000-0649 which is the content-location info vulnerability. I have a WEB server that isn't reporting the issue and the two servers are patched to the same levels with the same version of the files. Both have been rebooted and yet, one still shows up as having this vulnerabiltiy. I've used wfetch and don't see it, but it shows on the scan. I've followed article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834141 but can't seem to figure out why it's not sticking. Two questions: Anyone know how to definatively test for this and see what the scanner might be picking up and two, how to disable content-location from showing period? Thanks.     - Bad Request Error I've recently moved my website (www.startrightllc.com) from a rackspace dedicated server to a virtual dedicated godaddy server (because of cost). When I was up with rackspace users could type in both www.startrightllc.com and just startrightllc.com. Well now with the virtual server only www.startrightllc.com works. When you type in just startrightllc.com then I get a 400 bad request error. I'm kind of at a loss as to how to fix it so any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Virtual Directory Problem I have created a Virtual Directory that maps to a share on another server. Authentication and browsing works fine, at least, for a while. If no one accesses the directory after a period of time, the link in internet explorer (www.domain.com/programs) fails. I have to go into IIS on my web server, click the virtual directory to make sure the network path is still good, and then browsing through the link above works again. Why is this happening? It's almost like there is no "keep alive" function on the virtual directory in IIS so that whenever a person browses through Internet Explorer, it doesn't fail. Any advice?     - Multiple FTP Sites on 1 IP but DIFFERENT Ports Hello, I have published an FTP site on port 21 with internal IP of 10.0.0.1 in User Isolation in Active Directory mode. Virtual folders match up to users and it all works perfectly. I would howver like to setup a second FTP site on port 210 with internal IP of 10.0.0.1 in normal basic mode to access files hosted elsewhere on the machine. I have changed the port in IIS to 210, opened firewall port TCP 210 as well as route port 210 on my router firewall to 10.0.0.1.     - Greetings I am hoping someone here can help me. I have the personal dot.net site I am teaching myself with. I have it hosted and I am having all kinds to problems. My host tells me it the code but I don't believe them because it runs perfectly in VWD2008. I then decided to install IIS7 on my Windows Vista box and SQL server on my WindowsXP box. I copied my web site over to a virtual directly and attempted to open the site in IE. When I did I got this error, HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. And under Things you can try I have; If you want to serve this content as a static file, add an explicit MIME map. I have no idea what they are talking about and I did a Google search for 404.17 and everything I get back referrers to PHP pages running under IIS. Any help would save what little hair I have left.     - PHP exec() in IIS 6/Windows Server 2003 I have PHP 5 installed on my server running IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003). PHP is running happily on one of the sites hosted on the server however one feature needs to be able to use the exec command to generate PDF reports. I've tried granting execute permissions to the IIS account for the executable but haven't had any luck with it. Even full control to everyone doesn't seem to work (not that I'd leave something like that open in a prod environment). If anyone has some advice on how to get the exec() command to work properly in this environment (and securely would be a nice touch) I'd appreciate the info.     - IIS Redirection question Apologies if this is a totally easy question to answer but I am a total newbie to IIS. We just recently acquired a company that hosts its application on IIS 6.0. We are in the process of migrating their application to our data center. The company does not want to have to tell all their users to change their bookmarks and links. My idea was to host a new website that would redirect the users that were using the old URL to the new URL that will be hosted by us.     - W3wp.exe HI, I had installed win2k3 with sp2. IIS is configured and running in this server. An error message which i couldn't quit from my server. The error message is as follows.     - IIS 5 - virtual bytes continuosly maxes out I have a Windows 2000 server running IIS 5. I have multiple ASP (classic) based sites running under Medium (Pooled) Application Protection. All sites are essentially clones and are constructed of essentially the same ASP pages. Every week to two weeks the sites stop responding or generate various error messages. The problem appears to be memory related, a leak perhaps. If I track the virtual bytes for the DLLHOST process that these sites run in, it eventually grows to the 2GB per process limit, at which point the problems occur. This has been going on for a while and I just unload the application periodically to resolve the issue temporarily. I'd like to finally try to get to the bottom of this now though. When virtual bytes increases, it usually jumps up instantly as opposed to a slow grow. This System Monitor screen shot shows the latest increase. http://www.50amp.com/iis/memory_tracking.jpg That's showing samples taken at 20 second intervals. For a more long term display of this information see this graph: http://www.50amp.com/iis/graph.jpg This shows memory tracking data from 7/23/08 to 7/30/08. On 7/23 virtual bytes jumped 256MB. Over the course of the next 7 days it stayed rather steady until 7/30 when it jumped 128MB. The last few days I've been using Debug Diagnostic Tool to see if I could nail this down. I'm not well versed at interpreting memory dumps but I have been able to gleen some info. Here's the latest Debug Diag report that was tracking memory usage when that latest jump in virtual bytes occurred (in ZIP format). http://www.50amp.com/iis/Memory_Report__Date_07_30_2008__Time_09_14_18AM__375.zip This is what I know... the default process heap seems to be where all of the memory allocation is going. The details for Heap 1 - 0x00070000 show several entries under the Segment Information subheading. Each of those segments corresponds to the increases I'm seeing in system monitor for virtual bytes. When a segment fills up a new segment is requested, the latest being a 128MB segment. What that means exactly I'm not sure. That particular report represents DebugDiag monitoring memory for a 2 hour period.     - High req/sec We have a home grown application written in .net 1.0 sp2 which on occassion the web servers will get a high number of req/sec (in ASP applications object in perfmon) which will cause an increase in CPU, sometimes to 100% For a reason we have not be able to indentify a users session will generate about 500 req/sec or so. If several users have this issue at the same time the CPU reaches 100%.     - Strange stacktrace result Hi everyone, I have an ASP.NET 1.1 application, that started to produce errors on the production server while runs smoothly on an exactly similar debug/development environment. I have the exact location where the application crashes in release mode but runs fine in debug mode. I printed out the stack trace just before the crash location, and i found a strange thing that i don't understand. There is a line that is "missing" from the trace in release mode but it is in the trace in debug mode. (It's "set_LastModifiedBy(String)" which is an object property-set.) The execution path (regarding the source code) is exactly the same certainly. What is even stranger is if we change the property type from string to SqlString (for example), it will immediately appear in the trace like in debug mode. What could be the reason for this? Here are the two stack traces. (I've put a * in front of the line in question). Any help is greatly appreciated.     - How to replicate IIS (5.1) configuration from one box to another? What I'm trying to do is replicate an entire application environment from one box (on which the environment is developed) onto a number of laptops so the sales guys can show off the software in an environment which contains pre-set application meta-data, sample data, etc. The entire environment consists of 1. Database 2. Data Files 3. Web Applications (The software is treated separately since we have a separate, production MSI for the deployment of our production software.) I'm using Wise Installer to package items 1, 2 and 3 into an MSI. Since items 2 and 3 are a variably changing set of artifacts, it helps immensely that Wise provides a wildcard facility so that I can specify to package all files in a given folder structure into the MSI. As long as the artifacts are restricted to a small number of well-known starting folder locations this works. So I can pick up all of my data file artifacts, and even all of my web application *files* (i.e. ASPX, bin, etc.) using wildcards to specify to pick up all files starting from a few folder locations on the source box. What I can't do though, is use a wildcard to specify all virtual folders on the source box, to be packaged for deployment. Our application is open-ended, allowing for interface extensions to be written as external web applications. This means that the guys who put the demo environment together are continuously coming up with new web application extensions. References to these web applications are picked up in the database and the physical filesystem folders and files for these web applications are picked up by the filesystem wildcard specification. The only piece I'm missing is the IIS virtual folders themselves with their various application settings. Since the target IIS environment will be a clone of the source, is there any way that I can script this, or use a DOS command to export the IIS metadata on the source machine, package it for deployment to the target and then reimport it to IIS on the target in order to recreate the IIS environment from the source on the target? Unless I can find some way to do this, I'll need to contantly keep revising the Wise installation script as IIS virtual directories are continuously created, modified and removed. I'd like to find some way to port the IIS configuration from the source box onto the target boxes without having to do this constant revision. Thanks very much for any advice which you can provide!
