Some options:
a) Add you own 404 page somewhere, and configure IIS to use it

b) In IIS Manager, change the custom error type for 404b errors to "default"
rather than "file" - IIS will send back a default 404 error message

c) Put the 404b file back

Cheers

thanks, I put the 404 pages back and the messages stopped.
Wierd, why would it offer to delete them if it would cause a problem??

It only causes a problem if one (or more) websites are configured to use
them. If you change the configuration of your website to "default" or to a
file you supply yourself, then I don't think you will see this event. So, in
IISLockDown you should only choose to remove these pages if none of your
websites are configured to use them.
