        • IIS ver.5 I am trying to host my website from home, I have Windows 2000 server installed with IIS enabled. I am using G-link DSL 504 router. Here is my situation. I have copied my web site file (default.htm) in c:\inetpub\wwwroot folder. On the router I have forwarded port 80. I have registered my domain name and have given my static ip address so it can point to my web site. Could you please advice me if what I have already done is OK and what I need to do next to make my web site display on the screen. Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315596

        • IIS 5 frequent restarts and crashes We're running W2K Advanced Server on a front-end Exchange 2000 server. We have a few static sites in addition to OWA, but nothing fancy. Late Friday evening (12-5) IIS Admin started terminating unexpectedly about once every hour, sometimes more often. We've set the service to use iisreset to recover, and it eventually does. But soon OWA users will encounter HTTP 500 errors (after login), and sometime thereafter the service will stop again. Based on suggestions in other posts, I've obtained and run iisstate, but I'm at a loss as to how to interpret the output. The results of a soft crash are below. Thanks for your help. • Publishing to localhost Hi, (Running FrontPage 2002, XP-PRO, IIS 5.1) I am using FP 2002 just for convenience in writing an ASP web app. I can publish all files to localhost using HTTP, the files are in inetpub, and the default.asp page runs. But, what do I use for links to other pages? Example: what hyperlink do I use in a menu to get to mission.asp, which is in the root with default.asp? thanX for your help! Howie Adams -- "Before I end my letter, I pray Heaven to bestow the best of Blessings on this House and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise Men ever rule under this roof." John Adams, in a letter to Abigail, on his 2nd night in the White House. Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315593

        • Remote access TSWeb Hello, I wanted to know if it is possible to retrieve a file from one PC or server to the next. Example: Office A PC is in Miami and Office B is in Chicago both have tsweb installed and running and each desktop is accessible. So can you pull a file via the net from one to the other? If so, how? what security settings must be enabled or disabled for this to happen if so. Thanks very much Joseph Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315592

        • IIS 6 Hangs / Can't reboot We have been running into almost daily hangs of w3wp processes on 6 different farm machines (all 2003, various hardware specs). This wouldn't be horribly, except these processes cannot be killed (tried recycling app pool, restarting IIS, killing w3wp.exe from taskmgr). A system restart attempt leaves the machine stuck in an inaccessible state, and it has to be power cycled to get back up. There is no ASP in use, strictly an ISAPI filter that monitors/logs/limits access to hosted files. The ISAPI filter that didn't seem to be a problem with Windows 2000. By the time we notice this, there are usually 20-30 w3wp processes running (there are normally 3), and none of them can be stopped. When this happens, I stop sending traffic to the server (from the load balancing appliance), yet CPU use is still around 50% (dual CPU machine), and system/service host is what's generating that usage. An IISState attempt returns an error 5: Unable to examine process id 5224, Win32 error 5 WaitForEvent failed, 0x80070005 Again, nothing we do can seem to kill these processes, leaving the machine unusable until a power cycling. I've tried various settings on the application pool. Restarting after n requests, not restarting, limiting memory (which isn't a problem), etc. The problem seems to be that the w3wp process hangs, and refuses to die. IISDump returned the output below (the bottom portion of the results). Is this a problem with the ISAPI filter, or our configuration? Thanks for any help anyone can offer. 0:000> ~*kv50 . 0 Id: 7f0.1048 Suspend: 1 Teb: 7ffde000 Unfrozen ChildEBP RetAddr Args to Child 0006f9a8 77f4303b 77e4905d 0000004c 00000000 SharedUserData!SystemCallStub+0x4 (FPO: [0,0,0]) *** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. • PHP Problem, ACL This is issue on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise + IIS 6 + PHP I have follow the instruction and added new "Web Service Extensions" using "C:\php\sapi\php4ispi.dll", and in home directory folder -> configuration also "C:\php\sapi\php4ispi.dll" ".php". However when I try to run PHPNuke (admin.php), I get You are not authorized to view this page You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page. Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials. HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource. Internet Information Services (IIS) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technical Information (for support personnel) Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 401. Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Access Control, and About Custom Error Messages. I am postive the permission is set correctly, IUSR_Mainframe has been given permission to all the DLL file for PHP, and obviouslly the webdirectory itself. But the message just doesn't seems to go away. One side note, I only get this message after I fail the security check (which are not suppose to be there, as I have the website set to "enable" anonymous access). • simple infinite loop crash iis!!! ITS'NT POSSIBLE! Ok, this is a simple PHP wrong code. It's an infinite loop. Now if u try the example, IIS will HANG , the CPU will go to 100% and IIS will not crash, so its'nt possible debug what application has caused this type of problem. The same thing is with an ASP snippet. The application is in high isolated mode. while (list ($header, $value) = $test){ if ($header!="operazione") { $INSERT.=$header; $VALUES.="'$value'"; $test = each ($dati); if ($test) { $INSERT.=","; $VALUES.=","; } } } Now i can't think that IIS is so idiot that it can't handle this type of problem. • Can not turn on Cache Hello all, I am using a win 2003 Enterpise server for development of a .NET site, and im running into some problems when i try to view the pages localy via IIS 6. I am working on a .htm page and i save it and view in the browers its address via localhost. But the page only shows changes if i restart 'World Wide Web Publishing Service' otherwise i have to wait about a few minutes for it to show changes. I first thought this was a browser problem so i hit control f5 and cleared my cache in Ie6 but no change. I restarted the browser by closing it out. opening it then clearing cashe and then going to the page but it didn't work. I even did the same steps using Mozilla and Oprah but no change. So i think this is a IIS issue. It never happend when i was on windows 2000. Does anyone know what may be happening here and what can i change to make it stop? here are my settings. For Web Site Properties under 'Service' i am not running under Issolation mode(iis 5) under the sites properties 'http headers' i have 'enable content expriration' Checked. plus i have 'expire imediatly' checked. Can some one help? John John@ithinkdesigns.com http://www.ithinkdesigns.com Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315540

        • Setting up MSDE 2000 Release A on Windows XP Professional I recently downloaded and installed (hopefully correctly) MSDE 2000 Release A. I previously, and still do, have the version of IIS that comes with XP Professional installed on my computer. I wanted MSDE 2000 Release A so that I could do database access using ASP from my websites, which are on my computer. When I went to my first test website, I recieved the following error: Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Neither DSN nor SERVER keyword supplied /testDB.asp, line 26 The ASP code that I used on my web to connect to the database (which is currently just an empty text file) is the following: Set conn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set rs=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") connectstring="Driver={SQL Server};" &_ "DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("testDB") conn.Open connectstring The error, obviously, is in the last line I have shown. Because I am somewhat new to server setup, I am not sure what I need to do to make this work. If anyone would be willing to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. • Guidlelines for Miaximum Virtual Memory in App Pool I'm trying to find some guidelines on what a reasonable value is for Maximum Virtual Memory before recycling worker processes. (IIS6 Application Pool settings). I set up a test pool with a max value of 250MB and run a single .aspx page with one line of script in the Page_Load event -- Response.Write("this is a test-- " + System.DateTime.Now.ToString("hh:mm:ss")); At this value after a few minutes of requesting the page (I just click the refresh button), the worker thread is recycled and adds the following the the event log: Event Type: Information Event Source: W3SVC Event Category: None Event ID: 1077 Date: 12/6/2003 Time: 11:58:52 AM User: N/A Computer: ****** Description: A worker process with process id of '3100' serving application pool 'AppPool test' has requested a recycle because it reached its virtual memory limit. If I increase the value to 500MB I do not get recycled (at least not quickly). Does this make sense? This is a problem because my ISP running my real application has set my virtual limit to 200MB, I'm getting recycled every few minutes and losing session state. I've been looking through my application for leaks and orphaned DB connections and so on, but my test makes me think the problem lies elsewhere. My test server is Windows2003 Standard Edition with all critical updates installed. If anyone can point me to some definitive reference on this I'd greatly appreciate it. -Tim Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315529

        • FrontPage 2002 server extensions Help :o) I'm taking a MS FrontPage class in school and I am having terrible difficulties trying to publish my web site using IIS. In my FrontPage book it says to use a destination as http://localhost/(then the name of the file for my web) However when I do this, I get a server error message saying the server may not have MS FrontPage Extensions installed. I don't know if this has anything to do with IIS or not but I thought I would put the question out there and see if anyone might have an answer. My problem is that I am unable to test all of my web site functions without getting this step done properly. I need to be able to test my forms and confirmaiton pages and it won't let me, which I am assuming is becuase I am not publishing it correctly. Now that I have thoroughly confused myself I am hoping someone can straighten me out. Thank you!!! Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315493

        • disable web logon prompt I just installed a Win 2k server including the default IIS 5 server. When I typed the IP of the server in IE, it displayed a Network Logon Box asking for user name and password. I want to remove the network logon box. I went to the properties of default web site and unchecked Integrated Windows Authentication option in the Edit of Anonymous Access and Authentication Control of Directory Security. When I clicked Apply button, an Inheritance Overrides box came on and I selected localstart.asp and clicked OK button. Now, both Network Logon Box and localstart.asp did not appear. Can someone help me resume the page and suppress the Network Logon Box. Interesting enough, when I used http://localhost, there is no logon prompt. • Redirect in IIS 6.0 (newbie question) I have an app that uses tomcat on IIS. The home page is accessed at http://servername/appname. On the old Windows 2000 server, default web site properties, home directory tab, I set it to "A reditection to a URL." I entered /appname for the URL and clicked "a directory below URL entered." Users browsing to http://servername are redirected to http://servername/appname exactly as I would expect. On a new Windows 2003 server with the same app installed, I created the exact same configuration in IIS. However, browsing to that servername does not redirect to the app's homepage, but instead results in a 404 error from tomcat (not IIS). The app is exactly the same, so I don't see how it can be that. The only difference I can see between the servers is that one is Win2000 (IIS 5), the other Win2003 (IIS 6). The 2000 server is a DC and runs DNS. And, the new server has the same netbios name as the app name. I'm an IIS novice and completely new to IIS 6. Does anyone have an idea what I'm missing? • Need help with IIS on NT server The Web server is windows NT 4.0 running IIS for our web application that resides on a UNIX server. The web server is stand alone member server. Users login via URL address on NT Server which then starts our applications routines and menus via Internet Explorer. The new users are supposed to change their passwords at login. They get the box from NT server asking them to change their passwords. When they change their password they get blank box with ! and session hangs. We tried the change password request by hand and got error code 1351 from the message router service. The documentation for that error is as follows: Error Can't Access Domain Info - Indictes a windows NT server could not be contacted or that objects within the domain are protected such that necessary information could not be retrieved. Mostly it boils down to the Domain Controller for that network not letting the web server run the "Change password" request. The Web server is not part of a domain and is not part of the Novell network. Users can login with no problem but cannot change their passwords and new users are required to change their password on logon so they can't log in at all. Can you help? • Trailing Slash Redirect Issue Having the following issue with IIS that I am not sure how to solve. My users are coming in on port 80 to my web server, but the web server itself is running on 8080. Have an SLB device that is doing the port translation. No problems there. Here is the issue: User types in: http://mysite.com/myapp and forgets the trailing slash. This gets sent correctly to the web server on port 8080, but IIS wants to do a 302 redirect for that page to append the trailing "/". So it does a 302 redirect to: http://mysite.com:8080/myapp/ This breaks on the front side of the load balancer since it is expecting the traffic on port 80. Is there anyway to tell ISS not to put in the port in the domain portion of the redirect. Thanks, Paul Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315459

        • Setting up fault tolerant web servers We currently have multiple small servers hosting our live websites, and would like to implement a more fault tolerant solution... Can anyone advise the best way forward for this (multiple smaller servers, or a couple larger servers) .. I do not want to implement a web farm as this would mean rewriting some of our websites, and time does not permit this Thanks Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315436

        • HTTP Error 500 on IIS5 Hi, I have a strange behaviour on IIS 5.0. When a URL is requested using ordinary GET from a specific proxy the IIS respondes directly with a HTTP Error 500 "the system cannot find the file specified". When accessing the same resource in another way directly everything works just fine. anyone have any info about this?? Regards /B Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315431

        • NNTP DOA I have a weird situation where I can not install NNTP and get it started. I have Exchange on the box with EXSP3 and 2000SP4. I never used news groups, but decided to see what I could do with them. I could not get the server to start from Exchange. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still can not get it to start. The service starts without a problem, but the virtual server will not start. I do not receive any errors in the event viewer. All I get is a message that pops up and says that the virtual server did not respond in a timely fashion. Event viewer stated that the virtual server has been stopped with ID 94 I have searched and can not find anything that forces NNTP to reset whatever is missing/corrupt. And like I said, removing and reinstalling has no effect Any ideas Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315430

        • Using IWA for IIS without domain I have two machines in a simple 'workgroup' setup (no domain) both running XP pro, one running IIS. I need to get IIS to authenticate a user on the other machine using Integrated Windows Authentication. All the docs and online messages say this will work with the 'fallback' NTLM challenge/response authentication, so long as the username and password for the logged-in user on the client machine matches those of an account on the server machine running IIS. The matching accounts are both in their respective Administrators group and the IIS 'Authentication methods' properties for the web site has 'Integrated Windows Authenticaion' ticked. But - whenever a browser on the client tries to access the web site on the server, up comes the 'connect as (servername)\guest' (and no-one else) dialog (also, trying to access a Tag: IIS does not work with new user Tag: 315421
