Hello
I'm runing Win XP pro, IIS 5.1

I can't see any asp file form my web. I can see all the htm and aspx files,
but
when I try an asp file, I get the error message: "The page cannot be found"

And there is more:
I can't use any web services on my web, I get download file when I access
it.

Thank you

Is that the entire error message? There's nothing else?

Do you see anything in the Windows Event Log?

Do you see anything in the IIS logfiles?
(c:\windows\system32\logfiles\w3svc1\) is there a request in there? What is
the HTTP status?

Does this problem occur if you create a simple webpage that just has
<%Response.Write("Hello")%> in it?

Do you have a global.asa file? If you rename it to global.old, and then
restart IIS, do you still have the problem?

Cheers
Ken

Hi,

Something is up. You say you are receiving 404 in your browser, but the
logfile has 500? If so you browser should say "500 - Internal Server Error"

What is the exact Event ID, Event Source and Description that's in the
Windows Event Log?

Cheers
Ken

No, I'm sorry 500 was for another page.

Ther are some errors in the Application log, related to the MSDTC:

Hi,

I'm not sure that's related to a simple page that only contains
<%Response.Write("Hello")%>

a) Do you have URLScan installed? (I'm kinda grasping at straws here)

b) You mentioned before that you do not have an IWAM user, and that you
gleaned this information from the Windows Event Log. Can you post any info
you have related to that?

c) if you request a page that contains only <%Response.Write("Hello")%> do
you get a 404 in your IIS log?

Cheers
Ken

Hi George,

Regarding your issue with ASP pages, have you tried a simple asp page, for
example:
<%response.write "test ASP" %> does it fail as well?

If from within IIS you right click on the ASP page and choose browse,do you
get the error message?

Do you see any errors in the event logs associated with this? Any DCOM, or
W3SVC errors?

Have you turned off Friendly http error messages in the browser settings to
see if you get any more
detailed information. This is done in IE, tools, internet options, advanced
under browsing, uncheck show friendly
http error messages, click apply and then open a new browser and browse to
the page.

What do you have set in IIS for the website in regards to Execute
permissions?

Hi, Jeff

yes, I tried <%response.write "test ASP" %> browsing from the IIS.

I have errors about COM+:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: COM+
Event Category: (98)
Event ID: 4691
Date: 11.02.2004
Time: 14:12:16
User: N/A
Computer: GEORGEXP
Description:
The run-time environment was unable to initialize for transactions required
to support transactional components. Make sure that MS-DTC is running.
(DtcGetTransactionManagerEx(): hr = 0x8004d027)

turning off Friendly http error makes no difference, I get the same page.

settings for IIS:
Execute: Script and Executables
Application Protection: Low
READ (no log, index, browse, write, source)

To the URLScan installed question. Have you allowed the ASP extension
in URLScan?

>b) I don't understand

You said you didn't have an IWAM user. Have you looked at the User
accounts on the system to confirm this? Not that it should be an
issue with your listed problem.

>c)Actually, the log is not recording anymore
>but I have some info from this mornong:

These are 500 errors, not the 404 you mentioned. Do this:

1) Check the URLScan.ini file and see if the ASP extension is
allowed.

2) Disable Norton's or any script blocking software such as a
personal firewall.

3) Create this one-line file, named "hello.asp" and place it in your
web root:

<% Response.Write "Hello World!" %>

4) Access it from a browser via the URL:

http://www.yourdomain.com/hello.asp

Replace the "www.yourdomain.com" part with your actual host/domain
information or the IP address of your web server.

5) Post the *full* and *exact* message you gte in the browser.

6) If it's a "500 Internal Server Error" message, see this:

Why do I get a 500 Internal Server error for all ASP errors?
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2109

Then retry and repost the message.

a) You are right, ASP extension were in URLscan.ini
Now I can display a form in a asp page, a simple file with <%
Response.Write "Hello World!" %>
does not display anything.

b) there is no personal firewall

I fixed the problem.

The asp extension wa missing from the Application Mappings.

And now I have another problem:
I have a Web service. When I try to access the web service, the aspx file is
downloaded.

thank you

Open:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322
in a command prompt and run:

aspnet_regiis.exe -i

Sounds like the ASP.Net extensions (like aspx) are not mapped to the ASP.Net
dlls.

You need to install .Net Framework before you can serve asp.net application.

Is the .NET framework installed?

Also, re-run the IIS Lockdown Tool to undo the changes, then run it
again but this time read the instructions and do a custom
configuration.
