        • IIS 5.0 cs-method blank I am trying to investigate some 500 errors that have been occuring for a while on our web server. I would like to determine the possibilities in which log file entries have a blank cs-method field. I am not sure if there are hack attempts or spiders. We are using windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0. Please advise. Your insight and expertise will be much appreciated. As a reference to our IIS log files I am listing some of the log entries that I wish to interpret. date time c-ip cs-username s-ip s-port cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query sc-status time-taken cs(User-Agent) cs(Cookie) cs(Referer) 2004-04-21 02:41:12 203.116.15.241 - 205.142.198.37 80 - - - 500 266 - - - 2004-04-21 05:25:31 10.11.50.37 - 205.142.198.37 80 - - - 500 0 - - - 2004-04-21 02:08:59 10.2.60.53 - 205.142.198.37 80 - - - 500 0 - - - 2004-04-21 02:16:59 68.172.176.88 - 205.142.198.37 80 - - - 500 906 - - - 2004-04-21 08:16:11 10.11.50.44 - 205.142.198.37 80 - - - 500 0 - - - Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332943

        • Single OWA for Multiple Exchange 2K ? We are migrating from one Exchange server to another one. Due to the size of and number of mailboxes, it will take about a month to do this. Is there a way that we can point the users to a single instance of OWA to get to their email regardless of the server it is on ? I havent found a way to do this yet by looking on the MS Sites. Thanks, Ron Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332938

        • Using Inet in ASP Hello, I have developed an ASP page that checks for page/domain availability before performing a Response.Redirect to it. This is done by using InetCtls (Set inetTest = Server.CreateObject("InetCtls.Inet.1")). Now, I would like to handle the StateChanged event (to check, for example, for possible DNS errors) but, as I guessed, it's not as easy as in VB, in which this event would be handled by the Sub inetTest_StateChanged (...). So, the question is: is it possible to handle events (in this case, StateChanged) in ASP? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Erasmo Proietti. Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332934

        • Issues with GPRS We have a few well established web database applications that have always been used by our office staff with no problems. Majority are running on IIS6 and are .net sites. We now need to make these applications accessible to field staff and so invested in a load of GPRS cards for their laptops only to find that .net apps do not appear to work when run over GPRS. Multiple errors occur, normally along the lines of server_response_close - The server closed the connection while reading the response. This mainly seems to be for .net apps, our .asp 3.0 apps seem to perform not too badly. Anyone else come across this? Why GPRS? the slower GMS standard seems to work fine. I've seen a few papers published by Cambridge Uni on this issue which relate it to latency in GPRS, but nothing else, it appears not to be recognised issue. Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332922

        • My First ASP.Net Application Hello, I just got through installing the .Net Framework on my Windows 2000 Server machine and I am wondering if there is something else I must do to begin installing a ASP.Net appliction? I have read one article on the web which states that I must get a command line prompt and type the following: %windir%Microsoft .NET\Framework\V1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll -i and then enter regsvt32%windir%windir%Microsoft.Net\Framwork\v1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll Is this necessary? When I move the application to the server, there is an option in VS.Net which allows you to move the application...Is there some authority setting that I need to set in order to move the application? If I do it manually, there are two option that I see when I right click on the default Web site...I can create an "Application" or I can create a virtual folder. I am guessing that if I create an application is can use "DNS" name to get to my application, where as if I use a virtual directory, I would no be able to use DNS? Is that correct? The must be some reason why I would want to create an application and then a vitrual folder under the application vs. just creating a virtual directory. I would very much appreciate your input!! Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!!! Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332912

        • Multiple IIS servers stopping at once Awhile ago I posted regarding a concatenation lock - that's now fixed. However we're now experiencing intermittent events where THREE seperate IIS servers [1]all stop responding similtaneously. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to this, I did an IIS State on one of the servers (below) and would appreciate some more views on it as I don't see any specific problems. Any thoughts on what might cause this? [1] via a load balancer, in a secure network environment - highly highly unlikely to something like a virus. • Headers issue with IIS 6.0 Synopsis: Incorrect handling of HTTP header variable by ISAPI (IIS6.0). Details: Passing the HTTP variables to ISAPI (IIS 6.0) and displaying the result on Web Browser. I am facing a particular issue with headers handling on IIS 6.0 web server. The problem is detailed below. I am using an application that writes some HTTP headers on to the IIS 6 web server and then printed using the asp application on Browser. The Combinations tried details along with their result are as follows: S. No. Scenario (HTTP Header) Output Name Value 1 ABC ABC HTTP_ABC="ABC" HTTP_ABCD="ABCD" ABCD ABCD 2 ABC ABC HTTP_ABCD="ABC" HTTP_WXYZ="WXYZ" ABCD ABCD WXYZ WXYZ 3 ABC ABC HTTP_ABCD="ABC" HTTP_WXY="WXY" HTTP_WXYZ="WXYZ" ABCD ABCD WXYZ WXYZ WXY WXY Note: The variable <ABC> is lost for Case 2 and 3 and ABCD is populated using the value of variable <ABC> If someone has already faced similar issue then Please help us with resolving this issue. Is there some setting to be done on IIS for this or if there is some resolution to this? Thanks, Gaurav Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332905

        • INetinfo.exe at 95%+ CPU usage! I have Win XP Pro and I use IIS to to host websites that I am developing. Under the "default website" (called JLL, the computer name) I have some virtual directories called V1, V2 and V3. So to point IE at a particular script I would type HTTP://JLL/V1/something.htm or soem such. This has been working fine since I installed XP several months ago (previously I used Win98 SE with PWS for the same purpose). All of a sudden today I found that IE seemed to just hang and I found INETINFO.EXE taking up almost all the CPU. This happens all the time now. I have shut down and restarted, even re-installed IIS. I can narrow it down to this now. I can start a very simple HTML script in IE with HTTP://JLL/V1/simplescript.htm. But when I try to go to another URL, or even refresh the first script I get the problem. Can anyone please help?? Thanks John L Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332902

        • CDO for W2K, LogonSMTP & Multiple SMTP Servers on the same PC Hello I have three (IIS) SMTP Servers set-up on my server, all listening on different IP addresses. One of them is configured to receive incoming mail. This is working fine and messages are appearing in the drop folder within it's mail root. I wish to "login" using the CDO.Session object with LogonSMTP and work with these messages, but I don't know how to specify which server, (i.e. which drop folder), that I want to connect to. For example: Default SMTP Server -> All Unassigned Mailshot SMTP Server -> 10.1.1.2 Another SMTP Server -> 10.1.1.3 How do I say with LogonSMTP that I wish to 'connect' to "Mailshot SMTP Server"? The documentation states: "When CDO for NTS is running with IIS, the Inbox is a common folder shared by all recipients and applications, and containing all undeleted messages received by Microsoft® Internet Information Server (IIS). However, your application can access only those messages destined for the mailbox you bind to in the LogonSMTP call." Which is fine, but as we all know, IIS can have multiple instances of SMTP Servers, each with their own drop directory. How does one specify which one they wish to connect to. I am looking for something like this: Dim objSession Set objSession = CreateObject("CDONTS.Session") objSession.LogonSMTP "David", "david@adomain.com", 10.1.1.3 Dim objInbox Set objInbox = objSession.Inbox See the third parameter saying which server I want. Any ideas would be welcomed. Regards David M P.S. I know I can specify the drop directory to work with using something like this: Set objDropDir = Server.CreateObject("CDO.DropDirectory") Set objMessages = objDropDir.GetMessages("c:\inetpub\anothermailroot\drop") But if I am not mistaken I then have to go through all the messages and do some nasty substring functions to work out who the email recipient is. Not as nice as 'Logging' on and having all the right messages prepared for you. Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332899

        • Redirect to other PC My situation is like this. Currently i am using A computer as my main intranet site. However, now i am shifiting the intranet to a new server. But i would like to maintain the same name as i connect to the intranet (e.g. i used to connect to my intranet using "Intranet". but i still want to use the same name when i shift to the new server). I have search for help and there is a solution where under the home directory, i can just redirect to the other URL. However the command is not available for me and i log on as Administrator. • How much memory OWA need? (X-post with exchange newsgroup - sorry) Exchange 2003 on Window Server 2003 (and therefore, IIS 6) The inetinfo.exe process consumes over 150MB of memory, even when only one user has accessed the outlook web access (that is the only web application configured on this server - it is totally dedicated to Exchange). I tried to configure the Application pools to limit the RAM to 50MB, but as soon as I browse an Outlook Web Access page, the memory for inetinfo.exe jumps back up to over 100MB. Is there no way to limit the amount of RAM it takes up? - Dave Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332858

Should we just map to the E$ and copy the signature file across OR create a share for the ftproot directory. If share is preferred, what security setting should we give to administrators ? Just write and read ? Thanks Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332849

        • Part a) IIS W2K server does not appear to be mulithreading Hello We are running a web based application on IIS5.0 most of the heavy processing is done in a dll. ASP pages call dll components using the Server.CreateObject("dllname.classname") operation When the number of users increases the web site really slows down in it's response time, even though no threads are blocked and processor usage remains below 10 To see what is happening inside the dll while it is executing remote SQL statements we downloaded and installed DebugView http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/debugview.shtm The results of this application are that it appears the W2K, IIS5.0, ODBC environment is not processing more than 2 requestsconcurrently? Even though our AspProcessorThreadMax is set to 50? Below is a log of the webserver handling 30 requests of the dll application. I start spawning requests using a javascript for() loop that uses window.open(). The window.open() command references an .asp page which in turn uses the Server.CreateObject("dllname.classname") command to start the dll application. Each DISTINCT ITERATION represents 20 separate SQL requests to an ingres database server and each block of 20 SQL statements gets executed twice per dll call. Individual SQL statements are executing in the 10 - 40 milliseconds range. The total requests for this log amounts to 30 requests * 20 SQL statements * 2 iterations = 120 SQL statements total. If we take a worst case scenario of 40ms execution time per SQL statement 120 * 40 = 4800ms = 4.8 seconds database execution. Yet the total time from starting the execution at 69158.230 and ending at 69253.20 is 94.970 seconds of which database time should be no more than 4.8 seconds In the log file below, I have spaced out two transactions with id15 and it's related concurrent transaction appears to be id16. One iteration starts at 69159.730 and ends at 69160.200 a total time of 470 milliseconds for 20 SQL operations on the ingres database. The other iteration starts at 69160.200 and ends at 69160.590 a total time of 390 milliseconds for 20 SQL operations on the ingres database. Interleaved with the id15 transaction is the id16 transaction with the same execution times on the SQL statements. So the first iteration of 2 concurrent requests amounting to 40 individual SQL statements takes 470ms or 470/40 = 11.75ms each SQL statement, the second iteration takes 390ms or 390/40 = 9.75ms each SQL statement My question is why when I spawn 30 browser instances to my asp page does it appear to execute the request's in sequence blocks of 2? e.g. id15 and id16 With thread max set nice and high e.g. 50, I would have expected many start operations to be registered and then the result of these start operations to come back in no specific order. I was for example expecting to see start id15,start id16, start id17, start id18, start id19, start id20, start id21, start id22, start id23 etc... and then for the server to pick up the result of the returned requests as the database executed them. It just appears as if not enough concurrent requests are being fired off, during this test the processor time remains well below 10%, indicating to me that it could well handle more threads or other activity. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I can provide more information regards setup and code if that would help Best Regard Mar 00000000 7:12:38.234 PM [2688] markdev, id15, 060504175825FE, • keeping default website stopped In IIS on a windows 2000 server is it possible to stop the default website, and keep that stopped status even after a reboot? We have another site using the same ip and port and after each reboot we have to go in and stop the default site in order to get the other site running. Do I have to live with the default site always starting and just assign a different ip address or port number to it? Can I just delete the default site? Is there a registry entry that specifies which site loads first? Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332838

        • Session Timeout I am having the same problem on 3 different machines. 2 are running IIS 5.1 (XP Pro workstation) and 1 is running IIS 5.0 (2000 Server) I have changed the Session Timeout value several times using the MMC. On the first XP machine, I have the timeout value set at 1 minute. Using the Performance monitor, I determined it is still timing out at the previous value of 120 minutes On the second XP machine, I have the timeout value set at 20 minutes, but it is timing out at 1 minute. Which was a previous setting. Again I have used the Performance monitor to verfiy this Finally, on the 2000 Server, I have the session timeout value set at 60 minutes. But it is timing out at 720 minutes which was a previous setting. Verified with Performance monitor Any suggestions FYI: this is NOT an asp.net application. Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332835

        • Webdav and file created date When using webdav, when you copy a file upto the IIS server should it retain its original created/modified date ? When i try this under IIS5 & 6 the uploaded file gets a created & modified date of the current date/time. This makes it rather difficult to use something like robocopy to mirror the web site (without completely uploading all content to the IIS server each time). Cheers, Mike. • IIS 5.0 and https: I have a site that is SSL secured with a self signed cert. This is a test system that is only available to internal network users at this point. The problem I am having is this: If a user opens a new IE session and tries to attach to my https: site, the page does not display. If they connect to the same URL via http:, the page displays properly. Similarly, if they attach to the http: site and let the page display, then simply put an 's' after http, the https: site will display. I can't figure out why this is happening. I'm running IIS 5.0 on Win2k, SP4. Thanks for any help. Tag: IIS 6 cannot find image Tag: 332823

What is not so easy, is determining the amount of processor time that the specific process is using, even though we could tie it to a unique user name. Any thoughts? • IISState Analysis - Many Locks Attached is the IISState log from one of our webservers. ASP stopped functioning when this problem occurred. It looks to me like threads 25 and 27 are the problem. We use SAFileup to upload files to our servers, and thread 27 was doing some work with SAFileup. I don't know if the problem was after SAFileup finished it's thing, or if SAFileup is at fault. I don't know what thread 25 is doing. According to IISState, theads 2, 24, 26, 28, 29, 32, 34, 39, 40, 41, 43, 45, 46, 47, and 48 are all waiting on the lock owned by 27. Threads 1, 5, and 16 are waiting on thread 25. Looking into the dump file, I was able to find the page that 27 was executing, and it is our upload page. Given that there are some COMSVCS dll functions after the safileup stuff, I am wondering what this thread was doing at the time, and why would so many other threads be waiting on that one. Are the the problems with thread 25 and 27 realted to each other? Hopefully this is enough information.
