    - updating to IIS V6.0 i am just starting to learn visual basic .net and have a question about IIS. i looked in the IIS folder and it says i have version 5.1. i am running windows xp pro, and also microsoft visual basic .net 2005 express and was wondering if i should or could upgrade to IIS V6.0.     - Installing IIS without distribution CD I bought a used laptop with XP Pro installed but no CD. I want to install IIS and hope to copy the needed files from my desktop PC which is also running XP Pro and has IIS installed. However, a file named infoctrs.h2 is requested during setup, but is not found in a search of my desktop hard drive. Any idea where I can find infoctrs.h2 ? Thanks! This attitude was made clear in a TV show where a left wing comedian heckled some aristocratic Tory candidate in a local election. The police officer gave the comic a ticking off, even though you could see that this young copper sympathised with the comedian, and regarded the Tory as an upper-crust wanker. He said, and I quote "I'm giving you the ticking off and not him because he's a Lord and I'm a Police Constable." If I walked into my local nick and complained that MI5 were snooping on me, they would show me the door without even looking at my evidence, because that bored desk seargant with only five years to go before he retires doesn't want to start fucking about with somebody who has incurred the wrath of Stella Rimington. He would rather deal with the lost dogs and driving licence producers, eat his cheese and pickle sandwiches and piss off home at the end of his shift than have some high ranking spook having a go at his boss and getting him a bollocking. I think the police know well what's going on. It is up to them to do something about it. They know I've made a complaint at a police station. In this case I think it is 'high-ranking' police officers who are aware of the persecution, they know a complaint has been made, and they're doing nothing. What is more, I don't think there is anything I can do that would make them take action, both because they may be being 'leant on' and through the wider view that it could be deleterious to the state to have a persecution by state organs exposed. Perhaps you the reader might not know, but lots of people in the media etc do. Remember, I was born in the UK and lived there until a couple of years ago. I don't think these people would condone state-sponsored murder of someone who might be seen on a good day as one of their own. b) Rather than doind anything directly, they're going for spying, verbal harassment, media harassment, every form of persecution short of the physical. Because as soon as anything turns physical, the police become involved; and unless it turns physical, the police can shrug and say 'not our problem'. So they persecute you and try to get you to react, either by hitting one of them (in which case I clearly find myself in the wrong as far as the police are concerned), or by trying to harm myself (in which case they can pretend they weren't responsible). It's a pretty unproductive form of harassment actually, because if you don't react then they're wasting they're time. Also a fairly obvious wind-up and attempt to get some reaction. I think they're trying quite hard to get a reaction. If I hit someone on a flight over the Atlantic, am I actually breaking any laws, and if so whose? Is a BA aircraft British territory subject to British laws while it's in mid-flight? If they have this power, then they will surely use it We still don't have all the facts from Mike, and the most pertinent here I think would be about his time at university - the people who took against him, the ringleaders. We need to know far more about Mike: his political and social affiliations, put in context with his univeristy years, the enemies he made, the reasons people ganged up on him at the very early stages. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories generally, but I know there is far more that goes on in the universities, old boy's clubs, civil and secret services and Parliament than is ever made public. I don't want to post this to usenet because somebody might try to tie that in to my posts in some way (someone already has, in uk.misc). First of all, I'd like to ask you to believe that my phone line in my apartment is bugged, and has been for many months. I have moved a couple of times this year, but "they" have faithfully been on my trail. Anyway, let's suppose my phone line is bugged. Now, when I talk to my internet service provider, it's over a SLIP (now PPP) connection. So if you wanted to bug what was said, either you'd listen in over the line and have to decode the transmission, or you could go to the service provider (more difficult) and ask them to decode a particular user's connection. OK, so now they're listening to everything I do over my SLIP/PPP connection. A couple of months ago I was messing around with faking articles through nntp servers and through anonymous remailers. I chose a nice inconspicuous newsgroup for my little tests, something no-one would ever notice. Guess which newsgroup I chose??? Yes, _FISH_!!! or rec.aquaria to be precise And guess what articles I tried to post? Goldfish, Koi carp and, you'll never guess... PIRANHA!!! The goldfish article and the Koi went through, but the piranha didn';t appear. by now you probably think this is too silly for words. But if you look in the papers a few eeks ago you will find John Major, Tonny Blair and Paddy Ashdown sharing a "private joke" about Major's sunburnt goldfish. We haven't had anything about Koi yet (they must be too dull ). Now, sent by someone who clearly knew what they were doing (they chose an Italian backbone site for their launch point) we have many thousands of messages to people all over the globe. All about piranha, and with the punchline "that gives you something to think about, doesn't it?" The way it works is that they're trying to kill two birds with one stone again. Sometime around August/Sept 1992 I was living in a house in Oxford, and coming out of the house was physically attacked by someone - not punched, just grabbed by the coat, with some verbals thrown in for good measure. That was something the people at work shouldn't have known about... but soon after a couple of people were talking right in front of me about, "yeah, I heard he was attacked". Again, one I went for a walk in some woods outside Oxford. The next day, at work, someone said "you know he went to the forest yesterday". I don't want to put details on usenet of what happened because to do so would be to risk it happening again. If you put ideas in peoples' heads then you can find them reflecting back at you, and I don't want that. Also I can't remember that much from three years ago. It smells very much of the security services, because there is no other organization (to my knowledge) which does the things I've seen these people do. Remember, they have deliberately chosen the softest of soft targets to victimize. They purposely chose a mentally ill person who they thought would be likely to kill himself anyway, so that they could get away with murder. And in all likelihood it will have started as a personal vendetta by someone. Who could that be? I don't know, but I can give you some clues. The first possibility (deep breath) is that someone from my college set me up. Six years ago I graduated from university in the UK, during the last year there I was steadily getting more and more ill. I know that I was talking in my sleep; although I don't know what I was saying, it got me a reputation, and if someone from my college talked afterwards to the "wrong" people then that could be the reason for all that has followed. I think that's the strongest contender for source. Directly beneath my room lived another bloke who frequently had his friends round late at night, after the time that I went to sleep. So they could have heard what I was saying in my sleep, and that could have got me the reputation for "talking to myself". What I don't know is why that should have rebounded a year after I left. You'd think it would have happened sooner; it's a bit odd to wait for a year and then start abuse. The reason I think it might be the former is that I got quite a lot of abuse along the lines of "sound-alike" or "double-entendre" at work, in particularly from Steve. So "double" inevitably came to mean split-personality, "two people in one"; "back" inevitably came to mean "backside", "come" inevitably meant you-know- what, "split" (well, we'd better split now) again you can guess, "bent" (of a similar bent), the list goes on forever. These aren't "nice" double- entendres intended for comedy, they're nasty words to humiliate and cause pain. If I could turn the clock back three years then I would sue my former employers for harassment and I would almost certainly win. I had to take pills after a year of Oxford, so they wouldn't be able to lie their way out of it.     - Cached file problem I have the following directory structure \myrmc \mydal In each directory i have an aspx page with the same name mydata_sales.aspx I also have an XML file in each directory that is loaded up by the following code in the aspx page <asp:XmlDataSource ID="XmlDataSource1" runat="server" DataFile="XMLMenu.xml" ></asp:XmlDataSource> The contents of each xmlemnu.xml file is different depending on the directory. My problem is that it seems to be caching this xml file. If I go to myrmc\mydata_Sales.aspx first then no matter which directory you go into after that you see the XMLMENU.xml page from the myrmc directory.     - IIS6 migrated to another server, overwrote website info.... I have 2 Project Server 2003 servers, 1 for development and one for production. I was asked to migrate the IIS websites from the dev server to the prod server. I was not aware that a developer had configured some websites on the prod server ------when I migrated the websites to the prod server, it over wrote the websites and apparently, some config files.     - Logparser to parse IIS logs and output to (multiple) new files I just started reading about logparser and I would like to use it to rid IIS logs of entries containing bot names listed in a text file. I'll be using autoit and Logparser COM. I was wondering what the best way to go about this would be. From what I have read in the logparser documentation, it seems that the following would not be possible: 1. Logparser query cannot be setup such that: it is passed a file (say a list of bot names) and told to filter the inputfiles of all lines containing any of the terms in said file. 2. Logparser cannot produce output upon running a query on a set of multiple files such that the output is organized into files that correspond to the original files. (So if files A, B, C are to be filtered, the output cannot automatically be placed in files A1, B1, C1 such that the contents of A1 = filtered contents of A, and similarly for B1 and C1). Given the above assumptions, I have concluded that If I want to filter a large set of files and if the filtering involves a large set of filter terms, the best way to utilize logparser would be to run a query multiple times in nested loops (inner loop traverses the list of bots, and outer loop traverses the list of files. [In effect: For each file A, [for each filter term 'bot' run a query that retreives all lines NOT containing "bot", placing the output in A1. Repeat query on file A for all bots names] Repeat for all files]. I'd like to confirm whether or not my assumptions 1 and 2 above are mistaken, and if my suggested way of completing this task is over complicating things. I added my .NET web applications under development to IIS. I configured the apps to use a custom App Pool based on the Classic AppPool which is based on .NET 2.0.     - Web App Performance Hi, This seems like the right group for this question... We have an intranet based ASP web app. It is only used internally and the number of concurrent users is low(incidently how can I find out number of concurrent user?). Currently there is no performance monitoring at all. I know from SQL Profiler that some queries take 100ms, which is bad but not terrible given the low numbers of users. I know that the same web page can take between pretty instant to 5 seconds to return. I also know that on some pages with lots of data, the XSL Transform can take ages. However we think that most of the time is network latency. How can I monitor the following? Network latency. Time taken for page to load asp. Time taken for data islands and xmlhttp object to load data. Time for XSL transforms. Is there some way to monitor all this with Perf Mon? If so what counters do I need to look at and on which machine (client, web server, db server)? Any pointers to articles would be great as well... Am I even asking the right questions?     - IIS 6.0, memory limit ? Hi, I'm running IIS 6.0 with Win2003. 4GB of memory are installed on the machine. I've configured all the web sites to use the default applicaiton pool. each web sites occupies ~20MB. When the w3wp.exe process occupies 512MB of Heap bytes (checked with process explorer) I get OutOfMemory Exceptions from the web sites.     - IIS COM ASP.NET Hello, I have a web page that is developed in ASP.NET that accesses COM components. It was first developed on an XP Pro machine with IIS 5.1. There are never any problems running the web page on this machine. I then transferred the web page to the Windows 2003 server that has IIS 6.0. I can run the web page once and it runs fine. If I start a new instance of the web page, it gives me an error concerning one of the functions I have to use. The error is "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A000D): Type mismatch". I have noticed also that it appears to be session related because if I use the same session id as the one that orignally worked in the url that it will work fine. Any ideas? Thanks.     - IIS Crashes - App Pool exceeded Time Limits during Shut down.. Have 20 sites running off 5 Mid-tiers ( four each). Each site allows users to look up files in Oracle that are stored on Network SANS. The sites crash randomly at different times and after manually recycling a site's app pool ( allowing the site to be accessed again) we find the following entry in the Event viewer App log A process serving application pool 'Philly' exceeded time limits during shut down. The process id was '3368'. This happens randomly across all sites. Servers are IIS6, W2k3 without SP1 or SP2 ( Other apps on servers won't support it) but most other indivdiual hot fixes are installed. On one site I attached IISSTATE to the w3wp.exe process and created the log file shown below. Since using IISSTATE we are finding that the sites are crashing a lot more often then previously thought. IISSTATE records these additional crashes by generating a dump file and we've found that a new worker process starts up for the site but the site does not become inaccessible and we don't see the entry in the App log previously mentioned. The log below is for a crash where the site became inaccessible and required a manual recycling of the app pool.     - How to move a website from the default website Hi experts, I have WSS installed which has disabled my default website and stolen port 80 for it's own selfish purposes. Now, I recently have installed the web version of the terminal services server which installed it right off of the "stopped" default website. I cant start the default website w/o harming my sharepoint install, so how do I go about moving this web based terminal server to another location on my IIS6 server or port to recitify this issue? I have an ASP.Net application that is trying to extract frames from .avi and .wmv files to create thumbnails. The media files are out on a server and the .avi files work when I set the filename property of the MediaDet object but when I try to do that with the .wmv file I get an error thrown at me. The files all sit in the same directory and are processed in the same loop of code. I'm using impersonation and the Windows Identity shows that the impersonated user is being used before the code tries to set the filename property. I decided to Audit the directory on the server and also check the windows Identity before the setting of the filename property on the MediaDet object. However, recently we added a few ASP.NET applications to the server and use a web.config file at the root of the site for all of the .NET inherit their connections strings. I know that you can configure a web.config with tags for custom errors but does that, by default, override the custom errors configured in IIS.     - Problem uploading big files with IIS 6.0 Hi we have a Dell W2K3 R2 Web Edition with 2 Gb of RAM. we have problems when trying to upload big files to server, the bigest file we could upload was around 50 Mb and we need to upload bigger ones. We have tried with several components, like aspsmartupload. Our Metabase settings are AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed 1073741824 AspQueueTimeout 4294967295 (unlimited) AspBufferingOn set 1 Script timeout is set to 900 seconds but it crash before that. It seems to be similar to "FIX: The Response.BinaryWrite method fails when you use it to send files that are larger than 20 MB" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826756) but our ASP.dll version is newer. I cant see how this is related to IIS Worker Processes. LiveUpdate Engine
COM Module is, what i know, a component from Norton/Symantec searching for
updates for their products.

Perhaps you should contact them instead?
