I have a Sony Vaio that came with XP home edition. I loaded up Visual
Studio, and want to do some asp.net, but I cannot figure how to load IIS. I
go to add windows components, and there is no choice for IIS, as I see in XP
professional. Can someone point me in the right direction?

thanks

You cannot install IIS with XP Home. You need to upgrade to XP Pro, or
check out Web Matrix on www.asp.net.

You can use Web Matrix to host pages.

Hello Gregg,

The official answer is that you cannot use IIS on Windows XP Home Edition,
and you need to upgrade to Pro to use IIS.

Another working solution for you is to use WebMatrix[1] to develop ASP.NET.
You can also use Cassini webserver[2], which is a free webserver that can
host ASP.NET pages.

Some people say that it is possible to use IIS on Home Edition[3], but i
doubt.

I would recommend you to use Cassini Webserver, it should work fine for you!

[2] http://www.asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=6&tabid=41

Hope this helps you, and good luck with your web development!

By the way, have you seen www.asp.net? It has some great resources on
ASP.NET!
