    - Moving from IIS5 to a new IIS6 server Hello all, I have a server running Win2k/IIS5 with hundreds of sites. Is there a simply way of migrating the sites to a new Win2k3/IIS6 server?     - Slow Page Loads in IIS 5.0 with ASP Hello: We have built an application using SQL server 2000 backend, ASP, JavaScript, ActiveX running on SBS2000. Problem is we get uneven response times on page loads. Sometimes it is incredibly fast and at other times, I could make a pot of coffee between the 'click' and the load.     - Verizon and IIS and Linksys router IP address not working with this configuration I have run my IIS using a dial up modem in the past. Everything was OK other than the fact that I had to post my IP whenever it changed. I have recently acquired Verizon DSL and would again like to run my IIS from my home. Can anybody tell me if Venison allows this feature. I also have a Linksys router that I think I have configured properly. I have it set to port 80.     - URL path containing /blah.com/ produces error I have configred a virtual directory which points to a root folder of multiple web sites. Eg, Physical Paths /Root (Virtual Dir /vdir points here) /Root/web1.com (www.web1.com) /Root/web2.com (www.web2.com) When I use the url www.web1.com/vdir/web2.com/index.asp I received the error "The system cannot find the file specified."     - iis limitations? I have a dedicated server, dual processor, 2gb memory 250gb hd. I have a single code base asp website. Currently there are 50 domains/websites running from a single code base, each domain has it's own application pool memory space, each domain has it's own sql server database. I got the asp scripts all cached in memory, and they are extremely optimized and cache everything in app level vars, bringing average time of execution of each page on the server to 0.07 seconds, with cache turned off or reset, the execution is up to 2.5 seconds. Besides from the hd space limitation, are there any limitations on how many websites/domains/applications can be run on this server? Also, what kind of traffic can this handle? how many hits max?     - SSL and non-SSL I'm running IIS 6.0 and just completed the cert wizard and application process with Verisign and am awaiting my SSL Certificate. In the meantime I've got a question about how this install will go. I have one web site on this web server and I'd like the whole site to have the option of SSL or not. Currently the entire site is configured and running on port 80. Under the Site's configuration the SSL port is blank. When I get my SSL certificate, do I need only install it and add this port number (443)? Will my site still work on port 80? or do I need to create an entire seperate Web Site, with SSL, on 443, with the same document root and configuration as this one?     - Severe problem installing IIS on Windows 2000 with sysocmgr.exe Hello, newsgroup, we are facing a severe problem while installing the IIS on a Windows 2000 PC. After installing the InternetExplorer 5.5, the execution of the command "sysocmgr.exe /i:C:/Winnt/inf/sysoc.inf /u:"K:\PRESTIGE\ISSetup7_DisplayManager\Other\IIS\iis.txt" (located inside a batch file) with the IIS.txt [Components] iis_common = on iis_inetmgr = on iis_www = on iis_ftp = on iis_htmla = on [InternetServer] PathFTPRoot=C:\Inetpub\Ftproot PathWWWRoot=C:\Inetpub\Wwwroot creates a reproducable crash with the message: "Explorer.exe produced an error and needs to close. Start the application again. An error log has been created." We tested a lot of constellations, e.g. the installation on Windows 2000 with the service packs 1-4. Neither combination did work. The installation of the IE is terminated correctly, a reboot is done before continuing the setup of the IIS. When we install the component via the Win2000 Control Panel, Software Components Setup, the error does NOT occur. We found a workaraound, but the problem occurs in another way too. While starting a VBscript with the following command: str_sysocmgr ="sysocmgr.exe /i:C:/Winnt/inf/sysoc.inf /u:" & Chr(34) & "K:\PRESTIGE\ISSetup7_DisplayManager\Other\IIS\iis.txt" & Chr(34) set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Run str_sysocmgr the command executes. But if an explorer window is open during this execution, this explorer window will crash, too. Because of customer requirements, we are forced to use Internet Explorer 5.5 (no newer versions). This installation is part of an important product, so any solution will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!     - Excel files on an https site I am maintaining a few websites with FPSE 2002 on my company's intranet and all of the sites have links to excel files on them. At our particular location we are behind an extra firewall and this requires me to have secure websites (SSL certificates, port 443). We have just recently discovered that the excel files will not open properly when the file links are clicked on in the browser and the excel files will not open properly in front page when utilizing the https site. When the http site is utilized everything is fine. Any suggestions? What happens is when I try to open the file in fp I get asked for a password again and sometimes I get in and sometimes I do not.     - IIS 6.0 and MS-Access 2003 I have a problem when I update my Access database (database is located on iis server but I open it with my workstation and make some modifications). After closing Access (it save the changes) I got Internal 500 error. Restarting defapp pool helps and everything works normally.     - IIS 6 virtual path page not found When passing the virtual path of a document via a URL the page is not found if a number follows the "/" i.e. http://servername/virtual path/test document.asp - document is found and launched. However: http://servername/virtual path/111test document.asp - document cannot be found. I have tested this on all Microsoft excel, word documents and all work if there is no number after the "/".     - IIS - Intranet "Unable to view page" last chance saloon Hi Guys, Really appreciate some assistance if at all possible. I have developed an asp.net intranet web app running with iis 5.0. Whilst testing I can see the pages when viewing directly on the server i.e. http://se999999/default.aspx but when i try and view from my desktop over the network i get a 'The page cannot be displayed error message' (Friendly http errors turned of). At this moment, I have about 80 sites running which each generate a daily log file of more than 200Mb. I installed Winzip (together with the CLI interface) as a possible solution.     - Directory browsing virtual directories Platform = Win2003/IIS6 Using a 3rd party product which creates IIS virtual directories beneath a virtual directory (2 distinct paths within the file system) In order to use a web-caching crawl job, I need the sub-directories beneath the root to be enumerated using the IIS 'directory browse' option. Since this is not actually the file system that I'm browsing but rather an IIS virtual directory tree - I'm at a loss. Example: In file system: C:\pets\ C:\cats\ C:\dogs\ In IIS: http://localhost/pets/ http://localhost/pets/cats/ http://localhost/pets/dogs/ How can I directory browse http://localhost/pets/ such that I would see the subdirectories of cats and dogs listed so that my crawler will know to go down these subdirectories to acquire the content ? But, we have read that HTTP 1.1 specifies the client as well server restrict the connection between client and server to 2. With the tests we did, it seems IIS 5.0 doesn't restrict connection per client to 2 but we are not sure in the wake of the HTTP 1.1 specifications. Can someone tell us that whether IIS 5.0 implements this HTTP 1.1 specification and restricts the connection from one client to 2 at one time?     - IIS 6.0 problems Hello there, I am running Windows 2003 Server and setup the application server. I then setup Trend Micro OfficeScan Server. OfficeScan server uses IIS to create a web page for administration. My problem is that I did not check to make sure IIS was working properly before installing it. My default web and officescan web page do not work, they are stopped. The administration web page and Msappspool web pages work fine. IIS is showing the processes were stopped because the application is in use. Event viewer is showing the following: Service: W3CSvr EventID: 1004. The machine in use is my gateway server and is running ISA Server 2000. I tried installing IIS to use the internal network connection. I then uninstalled OfficeScan and IIS. Restarted the machine then reinstalled IIS. The default web still was locked out, but the administration web page and Msappspool still work. I am wondering what is causing IIS not to work correctly and giving me the 1004 error and a way to resolve the problem.     - Why does Rapid Fail Protection trigger? I am posting this again. I posted already 6 days ago, and on MSDN subscriptions website it says that I should get a reply within two days, but I haven't. Please help. I have an ASP.NET application running on a shared host under IIS6. Occasionally, rapid-fail-protection triggers, and I get the "Service unavailble" error and have to restart my application. My question is how to find the cause, why rapid-fail-protection triggers? The documentation only says that it may trigger if there is a certain number of errors in a certain period of time. But I don't see anywhere what the definition of "error" means in this context. I am assuming that an error occurs if there is an unhandled exception in the ASP.NET application. But I have implemented Application_Error() method in my global.asax, which should catch all unhandled exceptions. The rapid fail protection can still be triggered.     - IIS authorization problem? I'm trying to write a web service that uses CDO for part of its functionality. Whenever I try to instantiate a CDOEXm object (such as CDOEXM.ExchangeServer), my program starts to misbehave. If I examine the event log of the server, I see about a billion of these: "ASP.NET Admin Service has rejected a request from user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE' because the user does not belong to the IIS_WPG group." The only member of the IIS_WPG group is IWAM_[COMPUTERNAME], so I thought, aha, I'll just change the Application Pool to identify as that user. However, that didn't work. Even after I changed a bunch of permissions, I ended up having similar problems (same error message), even though IWAM_DEV1 is patently a member of the requested group. I'd be perfectly happy to add NT_AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE to the requested group if only I could, but when I try it says that it can't validate the username. Please help me!     - I need help on this one! Tough one! IIS Relay Question. Scenerio 1. I have an E2003 server running on a Comcast Cable that's not giving me a static IP with a Domain called (test.com). 2. A lot of sites will not accept emails from comcast IPs unless it's relaying from the Comcast servers. ex. Yahoo 3. I have a connector on my E2003 set up pointing to my IIS5 (win2k) server at work that ONLY ACCEPTS relays from my home IP and then it send it out. No problems with anybody including Yahoo who will get the emails. I have to manually go into IIS and tell it what my IP is. 4. I signed up with DNYDNS.ORG so now I have test.homeip.net always pointing to my Comcast IP. Problem. Is there a way to get my IIS5 to accept all relays from test.homeip.net IP? This will keep me from having to change the IP all the time. If I tell it to accept relays from a DOMAIN (test.homip.net) instead of an IP in IIS, I get the message that this requires a reverse DNS lookup. If you do a reverse DNS on (test.homip.net), you come up with (pcp05104098pcs.mtromd01.md.comcast.net) and not test.homeip.net or my home domain of test.com. Can someone help me basically figure out how I can get the IIS to accept my IPs without having to manually go in and change it all the time? I know that the auth_user is the user that is currently logged into my machine. I have "anonymous access" and "integrated Windows Authentication" set up on the web server, which is the obvious reason for this. Is that part of the problem? The Auth_User is not someone who is in either the database security table, and by extension the database user list, but is in fact a domain user. How can I fix it so that the username that is logged in is also the "network" user so that it can work? I can't make a lot of changes to the database, since it is in use by the other desktop system, so it is even harder to fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch! more than 700 users login at the same time, the connection with AD will
be lost. It coudln't authenticate anymore unless I restart my webserver.

1) WinNT doesn't use AD
2) What exactly are you talking about with authenticating, is this
for a web site?
3) What exactly do you mean by "the connection with AD will be lost"?
