    - iis applications Hi Everyone, Anyone knows of a way to script the creation of an iis application at a certain starting point. Meaning not just creating the virtual root, but also making that directory the sarting point of a new application space, using the mkwebdir.vbs script only creates the virtual root. I'm looking to the eqivalent of going to the properties of a virtual root and hitting "create". Setting the isolation level and friendly names is not a problem through their metabase entries, it's just creating the application, which I believe creates some unique entries per server.     - 500 Server Error (Bad URL) in IIS 5 I am a beginner to IIS, I just installed it. Therefore the problem started after the installation, using the default settings, it is not a upgraded box. When browsing in internet explorer I always get the 500 error (described below). Also, I need to test server in Dreamweaver with the url of my site: http://localhost/MySite/ oh and I get the http 500 error (again). The exact message displayed is: Dreamweaver cannot use the prefix you entered to display live data. Please double-check your site configuration. (HTTP Error 500) The weird thing is that it works in netscape and I can browse my html and asp scripts in netscape. Okee...This is how I browse in IE with the friendly HTTP error turned off: when I typed in the address field: 1) http://<computer name>/ I get 502 BAD GATEWAY. The following error occured: A DNS lookup error occurred. Host was not found. 2) http://127.0.01/ I get 500 Server Error. The following error occured: Bad URL 3) http://localhost/ I get 500 Server Error. The following error occured: Bad URL 4) http://localhost/MySite I get 500 Server Error. The following error occured: Bad URL The ftp works fine (I used ftp://127.0.01/ or ftp://localhost/ or ftp://<computer_name>/ I know they mean the same thing and I am glad something actually works ^^.     - How to figure out which application is listening on TCP port 21 - FTP Service says: Address already in use I've Windows 2000 Advanced Server (SP3). In 'Internet Information Services' the Web Service is running but the FTP Service is stopped. If I try to restart the FTP Service I get the error "Address already in use". To my big surprise netstat -an shows me that there's already another application listening on TCP port 21 Active Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP 0.0.0.0:21 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING ... I guess that's the reason why I can't start the FTP Service. Does someone know how to figure out which application is listening on my computer on TCP port 21.     - virt dir OK wwwroot is not I get a 400 file not found while using my site. Everything works until I get to a point of downloading a file off a link (more specifically a report off and asp page). This is on the wwwroot pointing to a different location.     - Newbie needs help with software trying to FTP My new boss wants me to use Online Merchant (a no longer existing shopping cart/website development program) to get a first draft of a web site. The program wishes to "publish" the website. I have directed it to a directory on my computer. I recently installed IIS but know very little about it. The problem is: Online Merchant asks for my ip address (which I used from my computer), user id and password - presumably to use during FTP. Anyone know what user id and password the program might be referring to and where to find it? And do I have to publish the software in a particular directory to use IIS? Thanks!     - Virtual Directory to share on other PC - Help Hi I have IIS v 5.1 installed on a WinXP Pro PC which is not part of a domain. I have tried to create a virtual FTP directory to point at a share on another WinXP machine which is also not in a domain. Both are on the same subnet and I can access each other PC via Windows shares but IIS gives me a red error icon next to the Virtual Directory in IIS. The event log says bad username or password and access via a FTP client cannot connect to this new Virtual Directory. I have created a user account with the same password on the destination PC the same as what IIS uses for guest web access but still no luck.     - IISSync problem Trying to get IISSYNC running on a Windows 2000 SP3 cluster with IIS. I've gone through the steps in KB249603 as far as the domain account, setting the master WWW service to use the domain account for anonymous, and I also set the same domain account as the anonymous for the IWAM_ and password. In addition, I've gone through the whitepaper and put the domain IUSR_ account in the local guests group, confirmed that it has "log on locally". However, every time I've tried to run IISSYNC, I get the following: Source : 136, scanned, Targets : (136,0), Error replicating to target VASERVER : The identity or password set on the application is not valid error code 2148598804 ( 80110414 ) At least one target computer was not replicated successfully What am I doing wrong?     - PHP caused server extensions to fail I created a new website and enabled frontpage extensions. I tested that I could open up the site in FrontPage with no problem. I was successful. Soon after I configured PHP 4.2.3 as CGI and API. Knowing that I finally got PHP to work I opened up Frontpage and attempted to work on my site. To my surprise the server extensions failed to recognize the SharePoint server. FrontPage no longer works and I have developers working on PHP pages that they need to upload. Granted they can do it through FTP but I like working with FrontPage myself. Why is it that it failed? How do I get it to work again? I have 6 weeks to get thos project done.     - 5.0 - Page Cannot Be Displayed Just out of the blue we will get page cannot be displayed errors on our IIS 5.0 Server. Restart the Web Services and everything is fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? No suspicious activity in the IIS logs, nothing being logged in the System and Application event logs. This is very frustrating. We have a Netware 5.1 web server (Novonyx) that has been up for over a year (382 days last I checked) with no problems at all.     - Frontpage install on unc? I am having trouble installing the server extensions for FP2002 onto a DFS share. \\server\share is the home directory and 2003 server iis 6.0. I tried to follow the instructions "Connecting Web Sites to UNC Network Shares" http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/sharepnt/proddocs/admindoc/owsj04.asp Has anyone successfully got this to work? When i try to Extend my frontpage site i get the error "Warning: Your FrontPage web content is stored on a UNC share. Anyone will be able to browse the content of your FrontPage web. To enable FrontPage's access protection, uninstall the FrontPage server extensions, reconfigure your Microsoft Internet Information Server to use a local partition and reinstall the FrontPage server extensions." I don't understand why microsoft has this error, making it sound like its not supported, but on the other hand publishes an article describing how to fix it?!!     - OWA over SSL not responding Hello: I have OWA on my W2K Server with SP2. The IIS server has a page for OWA that operates on SSL. The certificate is valid until 11-18-2003 so it should be fine. All of a sudden today when I hit it, it does not respond. I can see on the page the gold lock indicating I am on SSL. The Event Viewer on the server generated two events that may be related in the system log.     - OWA - - Some updates - - Urgent help needed Well I was having trouble with OWA from last 2 days. I would not be able to get the OWA main page. IE says error 500 Internal server error. In the IIS manager the SMTP virtual server is stopped (may be this is the main cause). When I tried to start it, it hangs for a while and then reports that the service did not respond the start or control request in a timely fashion check event log for details. There is nothing in the event log that corresponds to this kind of issue. Microsoft documentation says to check the registry keys. I checked the registry keys and its good as described in the docs. I dont know what to do next to bring it up and running. When I stop and start the IIS it reports the following warning in event log: IIS failed to log entry : File/exchange/global.asa line 66 object required: 'Application(...)'.     - restarting IIS fixes page not displayed Intermittantly (about once a week), a properly functioning web server, will start giving a page not displayed when attempting to access the web sites it hosts. Once we restart iis, the web sites spring back to life as if IIS has previously crashed. This is an unacceptable condition so we need to resolve what is causing this. Running W2000 Server with IIS 5.0. SP3 but otherwise a fully patched server. When IIS crashes all other aspects of the server appear to be functioning normally. Nothing suspecious is being written to the event log. This server serves only as the corporate Internet so other than IIS, smtp mail, ftp. McAfee Virus scan, and Arcserve, no other applications are being hosted on this server. I have seen some complaints to this occurance in IIS forums but not specific resolutions that would apply.     - FIX: Unable to open Office documents on IIS server I recently had a problem with opening Office2K (.xls, .doc, .ppt) documents that were hosted on an IIS 5 server from the browser (IE6SP1). I kept getting "unable to open file", but changing the file extension, to say ".txt", allowed downloading of the file. This seems to be a common problem based on some DejaGoogle searches I did. It turns out the problem was not Office or IE but IIS. After I reinstalled IIS on the affected host I am now able to download Office documents as usual. Unfortunately I can only guess what it was that caused IIS to fail download with these documents (possibly IIS Lockdown or URLScan), but I urge anyone suffering from this problem with Office documents to give it a try.     - directory permissions not sticking I have a web site that makes use of an Access database and .asp scripts to read and modify entries. When trying to write an entry, I get the error shown below. I looked around and it is obvious that the directory that contains the database file need to have writable permissions. So, I use file explorer to view the security settings and de-select the read only check box. I apply the change, OK the dialog box, and then re-open the properties dialog on the same directory. The read only check box is again checked my change did not persist. This directory exists in my /Inetpub/wwwRoot/ directory, does IIS have overriding directory permissions that file-explorer can't modify? If so, how can I force this directory to remain writable?     - IIS5 and webfolders Since I installed a win2000 server (sp4) I've had this problem: all the services work fine including the web server that is currently running on port 1010. I tried the following from a winXP client: I opened the web server default page in IE, I clicked on EDIT, frontpage opened it, I changed stuff, click on save and the page was modified on the server!! I found out that frontpage sees the web server as a webfolder. This is ok with me, but how is it possible that the server let's clients write to it? I've already checked what rights users have and everything seems fine. I also tried from a computer that is not a memeber of my network (simply a computer on the internet) and that computer could edit files too (this means that it is not a matter of saved passwords).     - IIS5 -- SIte Not Found I really did not think that this was brain surgery, but I must be missing something. I setup a new Win2K Advanced server, installed all of the service packs and updates on a multi-homed server. I bound the WAN NIC to my default IIS site. I go to the Internet and the site is totally offline. I checked IIS and all services are up. However, the server can't access the Internet unless I point it to another proxy. Because I also want to use this server as a VPN server, I installed routing and remote access with default settings for mixed mode. The VPN appears to be working fine. The routing table appears fine with IP 0.0.0.0 and mask 0.0.0.0 using the WAN network card. Is there something that I am missing here? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!     - WinXP srv 2003 IIS very slow My friend just bought a windows 2003 server (web version) and moved their web pages to there. However, we realized that it was veryslow serving those pages. We made tests and if somebody downloads 3Mb, it comes reasonably speedy. But when one downloads a webpage, and therefore dosnloads lot of little stuff - texts, pics etc. it is really slow. Jsut like the latency time, time to connect to server, would be very slow. Is there any option I could make this faster? On the linux server they were before the pages loaded much faster.     - IIS &URL Scan Hello, I have a web server and I have IIS lockdown tool that comes with Url scan and all that jazz. Now my question is whenever someone tries to go somewhere where they arn't suposted to be or tries to do an over flow to me the url scan rejects it and puts it in my IIS log. Is there any way to turn that off? so that the only thing IIS records in it's logs r the people that actually went o my site instead of <Rejected-By-UrlScan>?     - IIS 5.0 and MMC Hi All, I have IIS 5.0 Installed on my PC. When i Click Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Internet Service Manager Nothing happens. It does not open the Service Manager. And when i am logging out, it shows MMC.exe screen. I read this is common with IIS and MMC. Is there a fix to this problem, If it is a reinstall how do i go about doing that. I get an Event ID: 7031 The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly, When this happens it shuts down the IIS Admin service. IIS will then not restart. I have to reboot the server. This has happened 9 times today. I have Windows 2000. IIS 5 , Service pack 4 and all the security updates. Until today this server has been working flawlessly for 4 months. In what way is your system looking for a gif1? Is this showing up as a 404?
Perhaps you have a page in your site that has <img src=help.gif1> when it
shouldn't be.
