Is there a limit to the number of virtual directors IIS can handle? what are
some of the higher numbers you guys are getting? we are at 100 and growing
fairly quickly and i'd hate to run in to a problem with this in the near
future.

Thanks
Justin

IIS does not have a limit on Virtual Directories. 100 vdirs is no
where near anything to worry about.

For example, by default, IIS6 scales to handle 10,000 websites and
100,000 vdirs with no difficulties. One can bump IIS6 to 50,000
websites and 1million vdirs with a little more configuration tuning
and proper application provisioning.

You are not saying what version of IIS you are using, so i will assume IIS
6.0.

There is no hard coded limit you will run into. The most likely limit you
will run into is hardware (due to too many visitors at once).

At some point, obviously, the number of entries stored in the metabase
will affect performance. I don't know what tests Microsoft did on this,
but i cannot imagine that you will have any problems with <10 000 virtual
directories on a single machine, and you can probably go far beoynd that.

I've already hinted at the actual tests Microsoft performed on IIS6
metabase performance with regards to Virtual Directories and
Websites. :-)

Uh... ask Google what sort of voodoo is going on...

I've been using the Google Groups web form to monitor newsgroups. It's
barely passable and flaky - I'd rather not use it if I wasn't making
posts from different machines. I much prefer newsgroup reading within
Outlook Express because of one single feature - thread highlighting -
so I know when people respond to threads I've responded to. Google
Groups sorta does this but is bug, so I often don't see other people
responding to my response and miss things...
