    - testing asp pages I moved the asp applications from old servers to new servers with some chages(like server names, ip addresses etc.,). Now I want to test the links between the asp pages & applications are working fine.     - User Account Limit Hi, After i have STS Install I cannot add any user using either owsadmin command or STS. I've try to check the unlimit user account option in STS but after click submit, it revert back to uncheck and display 0 user. Can anyone help me with this please. Thanks in advance.     - 5.0 - Page Cannot Be Displayed Just out of the blue we will get page cannot be displayed errors on our IIS 5.0 Server. Restart the Web Services and everything is fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? No suspicious activity in the IIS logs, nothing being logged in the System and Application event logs. This is very frustrating. We have a Netware 5.1 web server (Novonyx) that has been up for over a year (382 days last I checked) with no problems at all.     - Frontpage install on unc? I am having trouble installing the server extensions for FP2002 onto a DFS share. \\server\share is the home directory and 2003 server iis 6.0. I tried to follow the instructions "Connecting Web Sites to UNC Network Shares" http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/sharepnt/proddocs/admindoc/owsj04.asp Has anyone successfully got this to work? When i try to Extend my frontpage site i get the error "Warning: Your FrontPage web content is stored on a UNC share. Anyone will be able to browse the content of your FrontPage web. To enable FrontPage's access protection, uninstall the FrontPage server extensions, reconfigure your Microsoft Internet Information Server to use a local partition and reinstall the FrontPage server extensions." I don't understand why microsoft has this error, making it sound like its not supported, but on the other hand publishes an article describing how to fix it?!!     - Authentication: many checkboxes and no clue... hi folks, i am messing around with user authentification on IIS5.0, and IIS6.0 I have: Internal (domain) users and "external" (through firewall) users at the same time, as far as i know: the Security tab in IIS5 gives 3 options: -anonymous -basic (cleartext) -integrated windows (NTLM?) IIS6 has digest auth for domains .net passport (;-) not for me) and thereare also some Browser-settings involved: in Options-Security-User Authentication -auto-logon, with domain-user/pass -try anonymous -promt.. I want to hide 3-line user-pass-domain Dialog boxes from the Internet, I want to avoid MACHINE\user usage from the extranet ("foreign" users are not domain users, they are local webserver users) I want to autologon all internal users automatically with domain user/pass can somebody point me to a KB# or another place, where this auth stuff is explained STEP by STEP ? what comes first, what is tried after that ?? thank you a lot! cheers!! reini Tag: iis Version?     - Server Extensions Hi, I am having a problem with my company's website. I have a signup form on it and when I you fill it out and submit it, the next page has the following message on it: FrontPage Run-Time Component Page You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly. This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.     - Web Publishing Services terminated? We just started having an intermittent problem on our IIS5.0 web server (in the past 3 days). Web, FTP, Smtp services all terminate after the following 2 events appear in the W2K system log: First: Out of process application '/LM/W3SVC/5/Root' terminated unexpectedly. For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. Second: The server stop serving requests for application '/LM/W3SVC/5/Root' because the number of Out of Process component crashes exceed a limit. Then: The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.     - Tomcat 5.0, IIS 5.1, isapi_redirector2.dll How do I get Tomcat 5.0, IIS 5.1, and isapi_redirector2.dll to work together? Despite carefully following the instructions at http://www.geocities.com/gzhangx/websrv/ajp/ajp.html suggest IIS refuses to forward JSP page requests to Tomcat. As instructed, I have completed the following tasks: - Added the required registry entries (see below) - Created a workers2.properties file (see below) - Created a virtual directory named "jakarta" that points to the location of isapi_redirector2.dll - Added an IIS filter that points to isapi_redirector2.dll The IIS filter dialog reports that it has loaded isapi_redirector2.dll. However, after attempting a connection to http://localhost/jsp-exampels, IIS does not forward the request to Tomcat.     - OWA over SSL not responding Hello: I have OWA on my W2K Server with SP2. The IIS server has a page for OWA that operates on SSL. The certificate is valid until 11-18-2003 so it should be fine. All of a sudden today when I hit it, it does not respond. I can see on the page the gold lock indicating I am on SSL. The Event Viewer on the server generated two events that may be related in the system log. Event Type: Error Event Source: Schannel Event Category: None Event ID: 36871 Date: 7/28/2003 Time: 12:58:47 AM User: N/A Computer: AVIWEB Description: A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL server credential.     - OWA - - Some updates - - Urgent help needed Well I was having trouble with OWA from last 2 days. I would not be able to get the OWA main page. IE says error 500 Internal server error. In the IIS manager the SMTP virtual server is stopped (may be this is the main cause). When I tried to start it, it hangs for a while and then reports that the service did not respond the start or control request in a timely fashion check event log for details. There is nothing in the event log that corresponds to this kind of issue. Microsoft documentation says to check the registry keys. I checked the registry keys and its good as described in the docs. I dont know what to do next to bring it up and running. When I stop and start the IIS it reports the following warning in event log: IIS failed to log entry : File/exchange/global.asa line 66 object required: 'Application(...)'.     - restarting IIS fixes page not displayed Intermittantly (about once a week), a properly functioning web server, will start giving a page not displayed when attempting to access the web sites it hosts. Once we restart iis, the web sites spring back to life as if IIS has previously crashed. This is an unacceptable condition so we need to resolve what is causing this. Running W2000 Server with IIS 5.0. SP3 but otherwise a fully patched server. When IIS crashes all other aspects of the server appear to be functioning normally. Nothing suspecious is being written to the event log. This server serves only as the corporate Internet so other than IIS, smtp mail, ftp. McAfee Virus scan, and Arcserve, no other applications are being hosted on this server. I have seen some complaints to this occurance in IIS forums but not specific resolutions that would apply. Does one need Terminal Server for this? 2. How do you introduce a test server into a small office which is networked and used to mapped drives but not to IIS? 3.     - NT IIS on BDC - performance Environment: NT 4.0 with latest patches. IIS. BDC without local accounts. Small Intranet site (100 files in home directory, with or without extensions. Issue: performance Relevants: New Webmaster Problem: My intranet site is on a very lightly loaded BDC. About 70% of the time it takes IIS 40-60 seconds to serve a page and the other 30% of the time the same pages come up in less than 5 seconds. Once visited, a page is served in less than 5 seconds probably because it is cached. Due to government policies, I'm reluctant to allow local logins, although this is recommended in the installation papers. Can anyone tell me why I'm getting such wretched performance?     - mail stuck in queue Dear Group, I am using IIS 5.0, Windows 2000 Server and ColdFusion to send mail. Previously the set up worked, but it has ceased to do so. All mail that I try to send gets stuck in the Queue folder. The SMTP service is running. I have no mail in the Badmail folder, and using the relay facility I have the access to the SMTP server restricted to only my IP number.     - SMTP Message in Queue folder Hi All, My SMTP mail service suddenly just stop working. When there is a down event detected, our monitoring software will generate a mail and sent it using IIS SMTP service. However, now all the mails are piled up in the Queue folder.     - FIX: Unable to open Office documents on IIS server I recently had a problem with opening Office2K (.xls, .doc, .ppt) documents that were hosted on an IIS 5 server from the browser (IE6SP1). I kept getting "unable to open file", but changing the file extension, to say ".txt", allowed downloading of the file. This seems to be a common problem based on some DejaGoogle searches I did. It turns out the problem was not Office or IE but IIS. After I reinstalled IIS on the affected host I am now able to download Office documents as usual. Unfortunately I can only guess what it was that caused IIS to fail download with these documents (possibly IIS Lockdown or URLScan), but I urge anyone suffering from this problem with Office documents to give it a try.     - directory permissions not sticking I have a web site that makes use of an Access database and .asp scripts to read and modify entries. When trying to write an entry, I get the error shown below. I looked around and it is obvious that the directory that contains the database file need to have writable permissions. So, I use file explorer to view the security settings and de-select the read only check box. I apply the change, OK the dialog box, and then re-open the properties dialog on the same directory. The read only check box is again checked my change did not persist. This directory exists in my /Inetpub/wwwRoot/ directory, does IIS have overriding directory permissions that file-explorer can't modify? If so, how can I force this directory to remain writable?     - IIS5 and webfolders Since I installed a win2000 server (sp4) I've had this problem: all the services work fine including the web server that is currently running on port 1010. I tried the following from a winXP client: I opened the web server default page in IE, I clicked on EDIT, frontpage opened it, I changed stuff, click on save and the page was modified on the server!! I found out that frontpage sees the web server as a webfolder. This is ok with me, but how is it possible that the server let's clients write to it? I've already checked what rights users have and everything seems fine. I also tried from a computer that is not a memeber of my network (simply a computer on the internet) and that computer could edit files too (this means that it is not a matter of saved passwords).     - IIS5 -- SIte Not Found I really did not think that this was brain surgery, but I must be missing something. I setup a new Win2K Advanced server, installed all of the service packs and updates on a multi-homed server. I bound the WAN NIC to my default IIS site. I go to the Internet and the site is totally offline. I checked IIS and all services are up. However, the server can't access the Internet unless I point it to another proxy. Because I also want to use this server as a VPN server, I installed routing and remote access with default settings for mixed mode. The VPN appears to be working fine.     - WinXP srv 2003 IIS very slow My friend just bought a windows 2003 server (web version) and moved their web pages to there. However, we realized that it was veryslow serving those pages. We made tests and if somebody downloads 3Mb, it comes reasonably speedy. But when one downloads a webpage, and therefore dosnloads lot of little stuff - texts, pics etc. it is really slow. Jsut like the latency time, time to connect to server, would be very slow. Is there any option I could make this faster? On the linux server they were before the pages loaded much faster.     - IIS &URL Scan Hello, I have a web server and I have IIS lockdown tool that comes with Url scan and all that jazz. Now my question is whenever someone tries to go somewhere where they arn't suposted to be or tries to do an over flow to me the url scan rejects it and puts it in my IIS log. Is there any way to turn that off? so that the only thing IIS records in it's logs r the people that actually went o my site instead of <Rejected-By-UrlScan>?     - Problem to create new web application from an original one? I copied the entire web folder from another server to a new server under the \Inetpub\wwwroot. I receive "Page Cannot Be Displayed" with no error number. At the bottom of the page it reads "Cannot find server or DNS error". There is no DNS name registered on the Internet yet and I am using an IP address to get there. I CAN connect using RDP to make a Remote Desktop connection and when RRAS is running, I can make a VPN Connection. So the server is accessible through the router for other services. I performed a Network Monitor trace and can see a Sync Request coming from my Internet PC. I then see the server respond with a Sync and Acknowledgement but no successful Get Request or Reply. I tried bypassing the LinkSys router first by putting the server IP address into the LinkSys "DMZ Host" mode and then by physically connecting the server directly to the cable model. Neither configuration worked eliminating the LinkSys equipment or it's filter settings (port access) as an issue. While in this configuration I also tried to access the server from a laptop dialed into a corporate network then traversing a Sprint T-1 I have DNS, Active Directory and RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Services) installed on this server also. I have disabled the RRAS service because I could not browse OUT when the service was running. My inability to hit the server from the Internet existed before I installed RRAS. I'm not sure if my DNS is set up correctly. I originally had the server IP configured using two external DNS servers (of the ISP) before installing DNS and I'm not sure if that is correct or not. I tried switching the server IP config to use itself as DNS server later but then could not find a way to configure DNS Forwarder in the DNS Config and was not resolving Internet names. I set the Server IP config. back to using external DNS servers. I don't believe I have any special header filters or other settings configured BUT I did download a copy of the Mobile SDK and .NET Mobile support and I see some header filter showing in the IIS Manager that I do not recognize.? Again, the server responds properly internally (when RRAS is not running). I tried creating host files (on 98 PC and at home on XP - Internet - PC) and results were the same: 98 on 192.168.1.x LAN worked fine, XP PC over the Internet did not work. (? Eliminating the 'header' issue?) I have checked with the ISP (Adelphia - Powerlink Cable Modem) and they assure me that no filtering or blocking is being performed on the HTTP protocol. I am due to get a static IP Address from Adelphia any day and will try things again with a new set of addresses. I removed the "Authenticate using Windows Authentication" check box leaving only "Allow Anonymous Connections" checked. No effect. What I have not done: a..
