    - IIS 6 Authentication Question Hi, folks I have a dev site setup on IIS 6/W2K3 that is in addition to the default site and administrative site on the server. Anonymous access it turned off. It's running on port 80, with no SSL port. I have established a local group whose members have access to the whole site folder. Windows Integrated Authentication is selected for the authentication type I can access it via my personal ISP from home and get appropriately challenged for domain/user/pswd. However, when I try to access it from work, with default browser settings, I get the error below my sig. I do use a proxy at work setup for 80/443/21. Questions 1) Is this possibly a firewall/proxy problem? Considering the political landscape regarding our network security group, getting a firewall exception will be impossible 2) I tried assigning SSL port 443 to the dev site (using TCP port 8099), but because the administrative site is already using it, I received errors when trying to use it on my dev site. I have purchased a certificate (via my hosting provider), but quite frankly do not know the first thing (yet) about implementing one. Q1) Do you think I could successfully connect using Basic Authentication?     - iuser, exchange and php Hello. I have a problem with access to Outlook (with Exchange Server) through com in php. I have SBS2003, IIS 6.0 and PHP 4.3.4. The script only is executing 30 seconds and stops. There's no error's but instrance of Outlook starts as IUSER. I put privaledges to Public Folder (in Exchange Server) and even I create Mail Account for IUSER but it nothing changes. I think the problem is with privaledges becouse word and other MS Office applications works thourgh com.     - Bad Mails Hi All, I am not sure whether I am posting my question in the correct message board. Actually I have a question of recovering BAD emails. I have a lot of emails that are lying in my BAD mail folder under (C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Badmail\..) The Bad mails were due to some IP problems.     - IIS 5.0 Problems after installing Windows Updates I just finished rebuilding a server after Windows 2000 crashed, and performed a fresh installation of Win2K Server w/ IIS 5.0. I then installed a few apps, but decided to install all available Critical Updates and Windows Updates before going too far. The Updates went smoothly, but when I tried to start developing new websites with Visual InterDev6 I was unable to make much progress. Every time I try to add a page, Windows Installer tries to install something from Access 2000 SP-1. When I finally got a default.asp page created, I typed in a simple 'Hello World' page and tried to view it. It doesn't display - page not found. So I tried accessing the IISHelp site via localhost, and this too was impossible. It tells me that I don't have permission to access the site, even though I am the Administrator There appears to be two things going on here. One is that there is an invalid file association causing the Request to insert the Access 2000 CD whenever VI tries to create a page. The other is a permissions issue that is preventing me from accessing my own pages, or the built in help and administration pages. I don't have a clue how to solve these issues, though, even though before the crash I have been building and accessing websites for two years using the exact same procedures I'm trying now.     - IIS 6.0 - Cannot update static HTML pages I've got an ASP app that works fine on IIS 5.0, but having trouble getting it to work properly on IIS 6.0. The application creates static .htm pages and updating existing ones. On IIS 6.0, when one of the old htm pages are updated, IIS 6.0 still displays the original .htm page. I can directly open the generated .htm files on the server, and the changes are definitely there, but IIS 6.0 seems to be keeping the original version cached somewhere. How do I turn this off? I've tried adding a custom header of Cache-Control with a value of no-cache. I've also tried adding a registry key called UriEnableCache with a value of 0 (To shut it off) to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters. Still no luck. I'm sure it's not a browser caching issue, as I've set the browser cache to "Check for new versions of pages every time" as well as hit the application from machines that have never before visited the site, and even those return the old content. Also, as the app running on IIS 5.0 does not exhibit the problem, I'm sure it is a server problem, not a browser problem. Also, the connections are direct, not through a proxy server.     - restoring default script mapping While attempting to add PHP to our IIS web server's Default Web Site, I was presented this dialog after adding the PHP application extension mapping: "The following child nodes also define the value of the 'Script Maps' property, which overrides the value you have just set.     - Problem with asp pages accessing database and internet access on web server The strangest issue has started to occurr on our web server. We are running: Windows 2000 SP4 IIS 5.0 Oracle Client 9.2.0.4 Oracle ODBC 9.2.0.5 Oracle Data Provider for .NET 9.2.0.4 - recent install but machine ran fine for several weeks before issue started. The problem just started recently but the machine ran just fine several months ago. Now every three or four days the ASP/.NET pages that access the database fail to respond. ASP/.NET/HTML pages that do not access the database all work fine. FTP works too whereas SMTP fails. A related issue is that from the machine access to the internet fails with a DNS error. It cannot access itself or any outside web site like Google. Note to self: Next time it fails, check if it will resolve web sites or self via IP Address & localhost. This partial 'hang' seems to be rather consistent as the last three weeks in a row it has always failed somewhere in the early AM on Sunday and then again on Wednesday or Thursday.     - IIS 6 inheritance override while attempting to manually install PHP on windows server 2003, i took the following steps, and munged indexes on the web server (for the Default Web Site): 1.) in the IIS Manager i right-clicked on "Default Web Site" and selected properties. 2.) i clicked on the "Home Directory" tab and under the "application settings" group, and clicked "configuration." 3.) in the "application extensions" group i clicked "add..." and added the path to php on our server, and the extension (.php) 5.) here's the bonehead part: after clicking ok, i was presented with a dialog asking me if i wanted to apply inheritance override settings to a bunch of the [local] sites on our server. i waivered. i initially clicked cancel. then i went back and selected them all and clicked ok. ..... now the index pages for our sites won't load: only the directory listing shows. so... whenever anyone goes to browse OWA, for example, they login and only see a [hyperlinked text] listing of their account folders (inbox, calendar, sent, drafts, etc). what did i do wrong? how do i fix it? :-( must i reinstall IIS. if so, must I also reinstall OWA? are there clear cut instructions on how to do this without making the situation worse? or, best case scenario, is there a way to make the .asp files load by default, again? please help! thank you in advance! walnut Tag: IIS4 to IIS6 and VeriSign Tag: 334395

When i click on a photo is is suppose to redirect me to www.addemd.150m.com/foto01.swf but instead of doing that it displays a error page. I tried publishing my website on a domain and it works fine.     - ASPX doesn't work (But ASP does) Hi, folks I running IIS 6 on W2k3 and just can't figure out why my aspx pages don't work. I have installed the .NET framework and registered it with IIS. The aspnet_client folder was successfully placed in all of the web site directories (as associated with their host headers). I also assigned the Network Service user to the parent directory of all of the websites and set inheritance for subdirectories and all child objects (using both check-boxes in the advanced security settings). The perms are Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read. Anonymous browsing is checked The error that I'm getting is a 404 error.     - wireless home networking i'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to wireless networking. i'm having trouble setting up my network as recommended by microsoft, (using my XP machine as the broadband entry point then branching off to a router)...and THAT is my problem.....how do i get the broadband connection (cable modem) from the XP machine into the wireless router? It's not like there is an outgoing LAN port on the pc. The only thing i can think of is to hook the modem to the pc using the USB connection and then trying to go from the LAN port to the router. I'm not sure if this will work. I know i should just try it and find out, but my desk is very big and heavy and i have to get behind it to run the necessary cables and...ok..you caught me...the root reason is laziness...lol...BUT..i'm willing to go through it all if i know it will work.     - Virtual Directories and Host Headers I'm wondering if anyone can clarify how to use virtual directories and Host header names. I have IIS5 running a web site. Its accessed internally so we don't use DNS, we use the server name. http://servername. Now I need to create a separate site on the same server. I created a virtual directory and a directory for the new web site. The directory is at c:\inetpub\vd1. I set up the bindings so that the original site is assigned to 192.168.1.100 on port 80 with no host header and the new virtual directory is set to the IP address 192.168.1.100 on port 80 with a host header name of servername/VD1. When I go to http://servername/vd1 I get the page not found error. If I stop the original website and make the virtual directory unassigned, it works fine. What gives? I have an application that needs to access a .dll that (for security reasons) only grants permissions to the Administrators group. Since the application pool's identity is the default "Network Service", I was thinking I'll just impersonate the "Administrator" account in my ASP.NET code. Now, when I check the value of "WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name" BEFORE the identity switch it reports the identity as that of the anonymous "MACHINE\IUSR_machine" account. When I check the same value right AFTER the switch it reports "MACHINE\Administrator". So the identity switch seems to be successful. However, when I try to access the .dll right after that, I get the "Can't create ActiveX object" error. That's because when I check access to the .dll with FileMon it reports that it's still trying to access the .dll as the "Network Service" user! What am I missing? Why is it using the identoty of the application pool, and NOT the impersonated identity for access to the .dll?     - IIS 6.0 returns "Request Header too Long" with big Kerberos tickets I'm testing an upgrade of web applications from IIS5 to IIS6. The apps all use Windows Integrated Authentication. IIS6 (Win 2003 Server) consistently returns 400-Bad Request (Request Header too long). Using WFetch, I could see it does not like the big Kerberos tickets our network users have. Forcing WFetch to authenticate NTLM works on IIS6 and I can see it returning the page as expected. Both NTLM and the big Kerberos tickets work on IIS5. When we've had problems in the past with big Kerberos tickets, we've been able to get around them with the suggested registry mods such as... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w3svc\parameters\MaxClient RequestBuffer HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Kerberos\Parameters\MaxTokenSize.     - Session Data in Session_OnEnd Hello, Can anybody explain to me why all the Session data is gone when you enter Session_OnEnd. From what I can see the only data left is SessionID. Is there anyway around that? I was wanting to Update records based on data in the Session. From what I can tell my only alternative is to create all records in the db using the SessionID as the lookup code. Anybody have any better idea's?     - Redirecting external traffic through IIS4 to an internal IIS6 server I want to redirect internet traffic which hits our IIS4 server to an IIS6 / ASP.NET site which is located internally on our LAN. Basically, let the traffic pass through IIS4 and hit the IIS6 server. IIS4 can be seen from the internet and the IIS6 machine is only available across our LAN. Is this possible? If so, any pointers on how to do it? I have tried redirecting the traffic by changing the properties of the default web site on IIS4 to point to either a directory on the IIS6 machine (in which case the source code was displayed to the internet user as the asp.net pages were not compiled) or to a URL on the IIS6 machine (in which case the page could not be displayed / the server could not be contacted across the internet).     - Access denied message when connecting via Internet Services Manager I'm using FAT32 on my windows2kPro development box with IIS 5 installed. I am logged in as administrator and cannot access IIS. I get the error: "error connecting to KAEHome" -- access denied error message when I try to get into it. The ASP applications are requesting data from an Oracle database hosted on a separate machine. When the IIS 6 server is setup to run in IIS 5 Isolation Mode the performance of the ASP application is very fast versus running the same application on the same IIS 6 server running in Worker Process Isolation Mode. In IIS 5 isolation mode the page is returned in 5 seconds, in Worker Process isolation mode the same page is returned to the client in 1 minute.     - custom errors don't work right sometimes In Windows 2000. Say we want to log 404 errors to a database. To do = that we need a 404b.asp. If we put the 404b.asp in the root folder and = the client accesses a page hello.htm which doesn't exist they will see = in the address bar: http://www.myserver.com/404b.asp?404;http://www.myserver.com/hello.htm But if we just go with the 404b.htm that comes with IIS they will see = the 404b.htm in the browser BUT in the address bar it will have this: http://www.myserver.com/hello.htm The client also does not have direct access to the 404b.htm. I don't want the client to know where my 404b is. In the second one the = client doesn't know. But in the first it is obvious. I'll be moving my website from NT4/IIS4 to
Server2003/IIS6 this week and wanted any heads-up
experience from anyone having moved a VeriSign
Certificate to a new server. Old hardware/software is
going away so I'm truly moving it and hopeing for as
little interruption as possible.

Seems to be multiple ways to do this in the certificate
wizard, (assign existing, import fro key manager backup,
import a pfx file, or copy/move from remote site) but
wanted the advice of experience.

Thanks to any willing to impart their wisdom.

I'm sure the way to back-up a cert to a key file on NT4 and then import
it to IIS6 should work ok.

To be on the safe side I would do that prior of discarding the old box.
