    - How to redirect from URL 1 to URL 2 in IIS 6.0 Hi, I have a website with this URL: http://64.69.169.164/sites/m/mo/Pages/Home.aspx It is a sharepoint site actually....what i really want to do is type this into IE: http://64.69.169.164 and have it redirect to the 1st one...     - Website SPN issue for a Subdomain I use kerberos and SPN's all the time but have currently found myself in a boggle with this setup. Usually if I have a website that has a host header of let's say msdn.microsoft.com which runs under say a service account named svc-dev-website then for that service account I would set the SPN as: http/msdn http/msdn.microsoft.com and kerberos would work with no problems. Now I have a host header on my website like this one.msdn.microsoft.com and it runs under a service account so for this I would think to set the SPN's like above so I would end up with http/one http/one.msdn.microsoft.com But this is not working!     - IWAM Logon Fails Hi guys, Just setting up IIS on a 2000 server (with Citrix XenApp) but have run into a problem I can not get around. I keep getting these two errors: The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. DCOM got error "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. " and was unable to logon .\IWAM_MACHINENAME in order to run the server: And IWAM_MACHINENAME does not show in my AD listings (nor does IUSER_MACHINENAME).     - Can't Install IIS on Windows XP SP2 When I try to install IIS on my XP SP2 PC I get errors that files can't be found such as adsutil.vbs. Error says to be sure you are using the SP2 disk.     - One domain hosting multiple machines I am a database developer who does web development (more than I like). Thus, much of the plumbing of iis is a mystery to me. Here is what I am trying to do. We have an intranet site hosted on IIS 6 (Windows 2003 I believe): devnet.mysite.com. We have created an application called MyApp that we can access from devnet.mysite.com/MyApp. There are other applications (mostly php) that are tied to the root of the site. Here is what I want to do: most of the applications on devnet.mysite.com will be hosted on one machine, but MyApp will be hosted on a separate machine. Can this be done?     - Connections being dropped Hi folks, We are doing some performance testing on a tiered app - IIS>WebSphere>SQL2005. We are running some scripts to emulate multiple users interacting with the app. IIS is a front end only - no apps installed on IIS other than Websphere plugin. As we move above 10 concurrent users we lose around 50% of connections with the following HTTPErr entries: Connection_Dropped DefaultAppPool Connection_Abandoned_By_AppPool Defaultapppool No Windows Event errors are occuring. At the test client we receive a "Socket error on port 80". We are running some perf counters across the board and some other testing to identify bottlenecks, but I am looking for some general advice on these errors and/or on maximising IIS potential for multiple connections.     - Issues with an application pool and identitys Ok, This is the case I have a web site which is sitting in its own app pool running under the network service. Under it, I have a virtual directory sitting in a totally different pool running under a dedicated AD user. The web site in itself works fine with no issues, but the virtual directory does let you view ANYTHING... not even an htm page forget about asp or aspx. Troubleshooting: 1. No events, No logs, just an annoying "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" (and yes this is the full error) 2. When changing the app pools identity to network service, the virtual directory works fine... but obviously i need the identity:) 3.     - Pass through authentication We are having issue with pass through authentication for IE 7 . It works correclty with IE6 but we get a 401 error with later versions of IE. It looks like the settings in IE are correct. It picks the dev site up as local intranet and i have set all settings to allow the pass through authentication but we still get the error. Is anyone aware of further configurations or issues with IE 7 reguarding this? this is a .net application being developed in house.     - iis with Reporting Services 2005 hi all I have a standard install of SSRS 2005, all is running fine, I can deploy to my web page fine. I have added a group and in some cases a single person to verify. Giving them browser and publishing roles when they try to log on to my server eg http:\\myservername\reports they get cannot open this web page. I'm thinking from this it is something wrong in the IIS server is that correct?     - Hosting I am hosting two websites. The home page for both were index.html and everything was fine. I re-did one of them using Asp.net and now the home page now is Default.aspx. The website is not on the internet anymore. I checked and Asp.net service is running and also in the Home Directory, Default.aspx was added and moved all the way to the top of the binding.     - IIS 6 site --> IIS 7: request for any resource in site yeilds error, can't read web.config, Error Code 0x8007007b Hi, I'm having some trouble testing an application on my new IIS7 installation. Any page or resource I try to render returns the error below, and I get similar errors when I try to configure the site in the IIS console. Module IIS Web Core Notification BeginRequest Handler Not yet determined Error Code 0x8007007b Config Error Cannot read configuration file Config File \\?\c:\Inetpub\wwwroot/ni\web.config I'll reproduce exactly how I got to this point: it might suggest a clue: 1) I set up a DFS replication on the wwwroot of my old machine and replicated the wwwroot from that machine to the wwwroot on the new machine. This wiped out a few files that were previously in place on the new machine. Don't know if that matters or not. 2) For now the new machine, a Server 2008 machine, is set up both as a domain controller on a legacy 2003 domain and with IIS, which is not intended to be the production configuration. This caused the following error when I first installed: The Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) encountered an error attempting to look up the built in IIS_IUSRS group. There may be problems in viewing and setting security permissions with the IIS_IUSRS group. This happens if the machine has been joined and promoted to be a Domain Controller in a legacy domain. Please see the online help for more information and solutions to this problem. The data field contains the error number. The "event data" (I think that's the error number" is 34050780. 3) The directory I'm trying to run as an application is c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ni. I configured it as an application by expanding the default web site, right clicking on the subdirectory, and filling in the appropriate information. 4) I get this error no matter what resource I try to request. Even a static HTML or image file yeilds the error. 5) There is no web.config file at c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\. This mirrors the setup on my old IIS installation. I am wondering if IIS7 has different expections about what should be in the web.config, or if I'm doing something else wrong. I tried monkeying with the compat mode of the AppPool, but that makes no difference. For some reason IIS7 is not reading in my web.config. The app is a ASP.NET 3.5 application. I don't +think+ that should mean I need to install anything additional on a Server 2008 box, but.... Any help out there? This one shouldn't be too tough.     - Multi Lingual Site Need some help configuring IIS to support a multi lingual site. My application supports a language parameter. For example, www.mysitename.com renders the site in english and www.mysitename.com/default.aspx?lang=fr will render the site in french. I want customers to be able to access the french site by using the url www.monsitenom.com. So, www.monsitenom.com should "redirect" to www.monsitenom.com/default.aspx?lang=fr. How do I set this up?     - Subdomain help needed please: Noob Hi, I want to be able to point a wildcard DNS entry so it resolves to an IP address on my server. I have a domain name which is hosted at GoDaddy and I am using their Nameservers. I went in and added a host entry for the main website (This website is hosted on another server) and it resolves fine. I then went and added in a wildcard entry (*) and specified that it point to the IP address of my server. Unfortunately, 56 hours on, it is still not resolving.     - How to Restore IIS to Another Server I understand that I cannot restore IIS metabase from a server to another server. So what should I do to prepare when a web server is completely dead and I have to build a new box completely from ground? I googled, saw that I can copy IIS metabase from server to server but let say all I have now is a tape of last night backup with Metabase daily backed up to its default location.     - SMTP using IIS 6.0 I am using CDO from my VB code to send automated emails. I did not configure the default SMTP server at alll, but it works fine for emails on my intranet. Now I want to be able to send email to "yahoo.com" or any other email address. Please let me know how to configure the IIS SMTP to do that. One common task is to create a virtual directory which redirect to the correct url on the site.     - worker process threads Hi, got an ASP.NET 2.0 application, that evry so often, causes the number of threads used by a w3wp process to rapidly ncrease to over 150!! I have configured the site with 3 worke process (web garden). Server is twin Dual core 3GHZ with 4GB Ram running W2K3R2 When we find that that the threads have gone over 50-60, we also notice that the users experience slowness.     - IIS admin console not working Hi, I have a problem viewing my IIS admin console on my server, the shortcut from the administrative tools is missing, and I cannot se it either on the manage my computer snap-in. The IIS is installed on the server, I can see it on the add/remove windows components, but I cannot open the IIS administration console. Even the services are running! I have installed OCS 2007 on this server, so I cannot just remove and reinstall the IIS. I even got to the iis.msc file on system32/inetsrv/ and tried to open it from there but I only get and error that say MMC could not create the snap-in. I can connect to the IIS through another server, but cannot assign or edit certificates remotely, I need to do this on the server. Please help, any advice is very much welcome.     - Problems with WebDAV publishing - odd redirects with virtual I am experiencing an unexpected behavior with the Microsoft WebDAV service and I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or could suggest any fix. I have a Windows 2003 SBS server whose netbios name is "server". I am trying to enable WebDAV access to files on this server for users on our VPN. (I'm trying to avoid passing CIFS traffic over the VPN.) I set up a new web site in IIS on port 8000 and created virtual directories in the root of this site to all the folders I want to share on the server. I have also set access permissions so that the site is only accessible from the LAN and VPN network segments. I have successfully tested connecting to the server from the VPN using Windows XP and "My Network Places", using the private IP address of the server (i.e., setting the destination of the network place to something like http://192.168.1.10:8000/ which routes correctly over the VPN). I can list the directories in the root of the site and open any real directories in the document root, but whenever I try to open a virtual directory (for example, a virtual directory called "users" that points to E:\Users\), I get an error message that "The folder http://server/users is no longer available". Note that the address listed in the error message shows the netbios name of the server, which is different from the address I used to get to the server and is not resolvable by DNS on the machine I am using, since it is connected only via VPN. I tried adding an entry in the hosts file on the client machine and this changed the error I get when I try to open the folder: the address changes visibly in the address bar to http://server/users/, and Explorer appears to try to list the contents of the directory but ends up giving an error saying "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server." I also get an error if I try to open a file from a non-virtual directory on the WebDAV server -- opening a text file, for example, triggers an error in Notepad that "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect". This error occurs regardless of whether or not I have the hosts file entry in place. I have tried connecting to the WebDAV server using Internet Explorer instead of My Network Places, and I get a bare-bones directory listing that does not include the virtual directories. However, if I manually enter the address of one of the virtual directories (i.e., type "http://192.168.1.10:8000/Users/" into the address bar), I am able to see the contents of the directory and even open files. David Wang was kind enough to respond back then, I hope he or someone else will again this time. The problem I have now is that the solution I describe below does not seem to work on XP anymore either. Has the security been tightened up on XP (perhaps in SP3 or some update), so that I cannot make IIS "interact with the desktop"? In addition to the changes below I've also changed the userName for the ASP.NET process to "SYSTEM", but that also seems to have no effect. Original Message -----> For debugging purposes I want to allow the w3wp.exe process to access the desktop, and create windows on it. On XP I could use the Properties Dialog ("Log On" tab) and check the "Allow service to interact with desktop" box.     - Unexpected authorization request when web site moved Problem: trying to move web sites to a second controller in my domain, and I'm getting unwanted request for authentication. Detail: when the IP address of the site is on the domain controller, I attempt to access it with IE. If I've set the site up in IIS, I see it, if I don't, I get a page not found. As expected. If I move the IP to the second controller, and attempt to access it with IE, I get an immediate request for user ID and password, whether or not the site is defined in IIS. Our in-house developed ISAPI extension has worked flawlessly for years under IIS5, but on Windows Server 2003 Web edition with IIS6 we are having problems with worker processes crashing.     - Redirect IIS6 I am in the process of setting up an older web site. Right now, I have pages like: http://www.example.com/california/glendale/restaurants/mexican/index.sht ml http://www.example.com/california/glendale/stores/pets/index.shtml http://www.example.com/california/glendale/services/auto_leasing/index.s html This goes on, one for each state, one for each city in each state, and about 30 categories for each restaurant, store and service. The shtml file opens up a framed document. These are all legacy files, and I really want to get rid of them. In addition, since these files are framed documents, well, we all know frames are evil. Recently, we got hit with a nasty worm that put a javascript function monkeys on all asp, html and shtml files. These shtml files and their corresponding html files were all corrupted. Great! I said, get rid of them once and for all. My concern is 404s from search engines. Right now, there is a "Files" site that goes to subdomain.example.com (the main site that has been thoroughly optimized), and another site "www" that goes to www.example.com. I had put on that site the requests should go to the "Files" site in IIS, however, if I go to www.example.com/newyork/newyork/restaurants/chinese/index.shtml it is still going there and not to subdomain.example.com/files/index.asp. So now that these legacy files are not going to be on the new server, what is my best bet? Maybe a custom 404 that looks at the uri and directs accordingly? I would prefer the server to send a 301 moved permanently so that SEs will get a clue. Maybe I can tell the www site to go to the files folder, and tell files to go to www (without the legacy files). I would much prefer SEs to list www.example.com instead of subdomain.example.com. Any advice appreciated.     - ASP pages not rendering We have iis6.0 all of a sudden we are seeing that in some of the application asp pages are not working.     - SMTP service stops working We are experiencing a issue that we can not find any information on. Microsofts SMTP service periodically ceases to work. So any emails being sent through our clients websites are going to the bad mail folder when it stops working. The only way we can find to resolve the issue is to reinstall the SMTP service. This is the error that we are receiving: Unable to deliver this message because the follow error was encountered: "Error is processing file in pickup directory.". The deployment should happen in a batch file or from a C# application and the permissions must be anonymous. blocks them.

You can use application/octet-stream which is a common MIME type can be
used on any file types.
