I'm getting the above error when trying to install server extensions 2002.
Does anybody know what might be the problem.

Thanks,
Gilgamesh

Hi Gilgamesh,

Take a look at the below article and see if that fixes the issue:

194972 Err Msg: Unknown Server Type MSIIS
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=194972

If not, what version of FrontPage Server Extensions are you running? Have
you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extensions?

Hope this helps!

Hi Kyle,
I've already added the line suggested in the article but that haven't fixed
the problem either. I'm trying to install the 2002 version of extensions.
The only thing I haven't tried is to reinstall XP Pro!

Thanks,
G.

Hi Gilgamesh,

Here's a set of steps I found that has resolved this issue in the past.

1) Check permissions on c:\program files\common files\web server
extensions\40\servsupp. Make sure IUSR and SYSTEM have at least READ.
2) In the same folder, check the path to msiis in the servers.cnf file.
3) Check Server Extensions.
4) Reboot.
5) Uninstall & Reinstall FPSE.

Let us know if this works for you.

Thanks,

I don't have servers.cnf in this folder. Here is a list of the files I see
in servupp fodler:
fp4amsft.dll
fp4anscp.dll
fp4apws.dll
fp4awebs.dll

Also, I searched for the servers.cnf file and couldn'r find it.

Thanks,
G.
