    - Help with IUSER password? Hello all.. I run a very small w2kserver, IIS5 to put about 6 websites onto the internet. This is very new to me, and I've learned slowly how to accomplish this over the past 2 months. But as of today, all of my 6 sites, when visited, get a 401: Unauthorized: logon failed error. In my EventViewer, I note that it says "Warning: The server was unable to logon the Windows NT account 'IUSR_KKT-SERVER1' due to the following error: Logon failure: the specified account password has expired. The data is the error code" beside the W3SVC item, event error 100. Right below on the System Log is another error, that says "The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password" which is event 36. I am confused, at what might have happened with no input from me. But what I'm able to understand here, is that somehow the user account that I have set up for anonymous access to my websites on the server is suddenly not working. Is that correct?     - Can't access Active Directory from IIS6/2003 member server I've got a Windows Server 2003 member server running a clean install of IIS6 with just Active Server Pages added to the default 'Application Server' options. I recreated this as a VBScript and run it under WSH on the IIS member server and it works, so I know the server can see a Domain Controller. On a hunch, I installed IIS6 (with ASP) on the 2003 DC. The above page worked. But not on a member server on the same subnet as this DC. Has anyone else come across this?     - Throttle Bandwidth per HTTP download in IIS? Hello All, Is there a way to throttle bandwidth on IIS per file download? I want each HTTP download to be allocated a particular slice of bandwidth defined by the connection speed of the user, not to exceed our content data rate. So, if our content is 100kbps and the user's connection speed is 400kbps, the file will be sent at 100kpbs. If our content is 100kbps and the user's connection speed is 40kbps, the file will be sent at 40kbps. Is there any way to do this? Thanks in advance.     - Concurrent Delivery of Many SWF Files We have a huge library (many thousands) of SWF files. We need to efficiently deliver/stream these files to as many simultaneous users as possible. We have a web site that serves as a menu to all of our content. Our users click on a piece of content, and we have multiple Microsoft IIS servers simply streaming these files via HTTP. That is, when a user clicks on a file in the web site, it begins playing immediately, even though it has not completed downloading in full. This streaming is the default behavior of SWF files. Can IIS be optimized to do this? That is, handle many simultanous [long] downloads from many users at once. What is the best way to do this? Each user should be allocated a slice of bandwidth (this bandwidth slice should be equal to the connection speed of the user, not to exceed the data rate of the SWF) Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode Broke Our Code We are migrating an ASP.Net application from IIS 5 on Windows 2000 servers to IIS 6 on Windows 2003. In order to maintain compatibility with the existing code, which depends on receiving the Session_End event, we are continuing to specify In-Process Session. But then in order to avoid unpredictable loss of session, we have to specify IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode. But now we find that IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode breaks some of our code. In particular we get a "Win32Exception (0x80004005): Access is denied" exception when we call System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName from our code. What do you recommend to fix this?     - IIS4 Hi could anyone point me in the direction of a fix for this criptic clue, the server is a standard NT4 with IIS4 running on it the unly third part software on it is Mcafee AV software the machine is fully patched with all MS patches i have contacted Mcafee to see if they have any known issues, the inetinfo service appears to be Ok and running but in actual fact it is not serving any requests, it happens totally intermitent and random there is nothing changed on the server.     - php Snapin - security question On my local XP Pro system instaled the php snapin to test my website locally. All settings are default and my site works perfectly. However, when I upload to my hosts site, something is configured strangely with their php so when people try to login on my site it does't work.     - Performance Monitor - Current Anonymous Users vs. Current Connctions I've been running Perfromance montior against IIS 6.0 graphing out Current Anonymous Users & Current Connections. Anonymous Users blips to 1 or 2 and usually graphs to nothing, but Connections shows anywhere from 4-30 consistently. I must be missing something, what is the difference? I would guess that if the browser creates multiple Connections per Anonymous User I would at least show a division of Connections being graphed for Anonymous Users.     - metadata to have multi sites listed Hi everyone, I have win 2K pro and used something I think was called 'metadata' to add extra sites to IIS (still you can only have one site added at a time, but it's easier to flick one off and one on than go into the sites properties and change the path everytime you want to chnage project). Now, I seem to have misplaced the file and instructions on how to do it since refreshing my machine.     - Redirect multiple URLs to the same site Guys, I am using IIS 5/Win2K. We already have a web site www.abc-company.com running on our server. We have another domain name www.abccompany.com pointing to the same site. I would like to use a 301 redirection for www.abc-company.com and also for www.a-b-c-company.com, www.ab-c-company.com [we own all of these domain names]. How many web sites should I create on the server? What IP address should I assign to all of these new sites. I am not at all sure how to use 'A redirection to a URL' option in the 'Home Directory' tab in IIS Manager. Any kind of help will be appreciated.     - how to secure mysql + php script on iis6 Hi, I have an application i need to run on iis6 that uses mysql and php pages. -mysql resides in c:\mysql -php scripts + pages + images reside on wwwroot (i think thats all there is to it) To run php + mysql on II6 i had to: - install phpinstaller (to enable perl) - enable ISAPI extentions - enable CGI extentions I need to make sure that this server is as secure as possible before going life.     - IIS6 Socket Pooling Breaks Network Load Balancing I have come across what I believe to be a bug. This is the scenario: Server with 2 or more IP addresses, lets say 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2. I set up 2 web sites, A and B. I configure A to listen on 10.0.0.1 and B to listen on 10.0.0.2 in the IIS MMC. I do a netstat -an and see that TCP/80 is listening on all IP's. So I use HTTPCFG.EXE to set iplisten to my 2 ip addresses that I am using (httpcfg set ip listen -i 10.0.0.1). I restart the system. I do a netstat -an and notice now TCP/80 is correctly only listening on 10.0.0.1:80 and 10.0.0.2:80. Now I go into the IIS MMC and stop website B. I check with netstat again and notice that the server is still listening on 10.0.0.2:80. IIS does not serve up any pages, but the port is still open. I know this is probably due to the new design of the http.sys driver, but now the network loadbalancing driver sees port 80 still open and continues to load balance connections to a stopped website. With IIS5 I could stop a website, and the port would no longer be listening. This is huge problem, we can no longer stop one website to do maintenance, upgrades, etc. Is there a work around (other than taking down all the websites or removing the IP address) or a fix for this?     - Missing CSR, but Have the Generated CER I'm trying to set up an extranet on IIS 5 Win 2k and I generated the CSR file. I sent the CSR to Verisign 3 days ago for the CER file. Since then I have since replaced the CSR file and installed a home grown CER through Certificate Server. On a side note, after purchasing a CER from VeriSign, you can replace it for the next 30 days at no charge. I'm about to submit another request do so.     - file upload write permissions Hi. I am using IIS 5.0 on W2K Prof as a standalone testbed for a clients site. The script i am using is (http://www.freeaspupload.net). however I cannot get it to run the test it keeps returning the following error. Folder H:\Current work\Mailer Test\Uploads does not have write permissions. The value of your uploadsDirVar is incorrect. Open uploadTester.asp in an editor and change the value of uploadsDirVar to the pathname of a directory with write permissions. I have changed the permissions in the above folder to include read & write using IIS administrator. but still get the same result. Will uploads work on WK2 prof or or is this one of the limitations on IIS working on Professional rather than a server.     - Can not find localhost My java application refused at once to find localhost. Allso browsers do not find it (IE and Opera, proxy settings are OK), with address: http://localhost (or 127.0.0.1). I have Windows XP Professional, no IIS, firewall or virusscan installed. Ping command finds localhost. I have tested connection with many other netcommands, like: net, ipconfig, nbtstat, netstat and netsh.     - IIS Bug Found - Please Confirm I believe I found an IIS bug. At first I couldn't figure out why IIS stopped serving web pages and images (even if I enabled directory browsing). I tried everything I could think of and finally uninstalled and reinstalled. Still struggled for a while and then got it back. Until... I had created an Excel workbook with hyperlinks, charts, etc. and saved it as an html doc into my home directory. Bingo, the same problems immediately began again (this corresponds with my loosing functionality the first time too). IIS will not serve any web docs residing anywhere on my computer whether or not their accessed via directory browsing or via default documents. Go figure. Any thoughts?     - ISAPI Filter not working in IIS 6 Did anything change from IIS5 - IIS 6 in the way these 2 events are processed. SF_NOTIFY_PREPROC_HEADERS and SF_NOTIFY_URL_MAP. We have a filter for image delivery. Incoming are URL requests for specific image resolutions. Response is a image that could be on our file system or for a low res image that we generate on the fly based on the original image. If we have the image, we respond with a UNC path. If image doesnt exist, but can be generated, we REDIRECT with the right params to a executable. This works perfectly on IIS5/Windows 2000. However on IIS6/Win2003: ------------------------------ Filter loads fine with green arrow in IIS5 compatible mode. But in the case where it has to redirect, it fails with a 500 error. In IIS 6 mode, IIS mgr doesnt seem to load the filter, but, behaviour is similar to the IIS5 comptabile mode, where the filter is able to display the image but cannot redirect in case of a low res request. We are not using any RAW DATA events. So, i dont think we need to run in IIS5 compatible mode.     - server application unavailable error on IIS 6 Hello, I have done some research on this problem but have not come across a solution (or misunderstood an existing one) for the "server application unavailable" error on IIS 6. Here is our server setup and apps/programs in use: Windows Server 2003 standard edition SharePoint Services IIS 6 (not using IIS 5 mode) Mixture of ASP and ASP.Net pages Visual Studio.Net 2003 The server is not a domain controller (or at least was not created that way; part of a server farm and sometimes maintained by other staff). They could have installed MS patches too which I know could cause a conflict. We have yet to discover any pattern to when or why this occurs. Do wonder if sharepoint or when using Visual Studio some how causes the error. The sharepoint site is listed as a Default application under DefaultAppPools but has its own port other than 80. The default web site is also listed as a default application under DefaultAppPool. When I check the Properties for Application Pools, the Identity is set to Predefined using "Network Services".     - Default Application pool and Network Service account Hi, I have an asp page that spawns an executable. This executable need to run as a specific domain user accunt. On previous versions of windows servers I used to set the application protection to high and go to COM+ and set the identity to this domain account. In Windows 2003 I presume the equivalent is the application pool. When I set the identity of the application pool to the domain account, the internet explorer starts popping up the authentication dialog. No valid username password combination seems to work.     - Problems with FP site access for admin after upgrade. Could this be an IIS 6.0 problem? I have 40 some virtual webs on my server. It used to be a Win 2000 box with FPSE 2000 on it. We recently upgraded the box to Windows 2003 Server, IIS6 with FPSE 2002 and had some problems. So we had to do a full install and recreate all our DNS accounts and IIS accounts for our websites. After making the IIS accounts and installing the extensions on each virtual web I do not have access remotely via Frontpage 2000, 2002, or 2003. My user account has Admin privys, and I went in to the IIS 6.0 console and added my account in there and it still doesn't accept my user info when I log on in frontpage. If I continue to attempt entrance Win 2003 will "lock out" my user. I am able to get into the server via remote desktop and have all admin privys there. I am at a loss and since our upgrade all our forms are not working and clients are calling, but I can't log in to fix them. Any advice or anyone else have this problem?     - Getting Page Not Found but Refresh and works I have a W2K3 machine that has .asp pages on it. The home page is static the rest are .asp. When I open a browser and goto the home page 50% of the time I get 'Page Not Found' error page. If I hit the refresh button the page comes up always. I have tried this on about 20 machines with the same results. The other 50% of the time it comes up with no problems. This server is in a controlled environment meaning I am the only person hitting it. I checked the logs and all I see is when I hit the site and the page comes up the logs look normal. When I get the 'Page Not Found' error it is in the log as 404 error. I have the lastest batches and hotfixes on the box. Has anyone seen this problem? Any ideas on how to fix? When the server is rebooted the firewall and web proxy start but the Intranet and the extranet do not. we have to stop the firewall and the web proxy in order to start these services.

How can we get them all to start at bootup?

How do you know they don't start? If you know it, then you must be
able to provide some relevant information to us, such as error
messages, even log errors, etc.
