I would like to buy a domain and use my personal computer to host that
domain. I am not sure if this can be done with iis but if it is would some
one please direct to me to a decent tutorial on how this is done?

i don't know of any tutorials but...

1. buy the domain (godaddy.com or verisign.com or whoever) and get a
manageable DNS service from them (some like godaddy.com i think offer this
now).

2. get a wired connection with a static IP address

3. Hook up your PC to the internet via cablemodem, dsl, whatever. (Get a
good router & firewall).

4. Use your DNS manager from #1 above to set www.mydomain.com to your IP
address from #2.

What operating system? If Windows other than XP Home or ME, then you
have a web server, IIS available in your operating system. See the
help file for installing it, or iisfaq.com.

If you have Windows ME or Windows XP Home, you can install Apache.
See apache.org for that, and the Apache newsgroups for help.
