Hi,
Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I ran the
IISLockdown tool, and now all links to exe files result in
a Page Cannot be Found error. Is there a security setting
that needs to be tweaked in IIS 5.0?

IIS FP posting extended webs question!
I have Win NT 4 server running IIS 4 with FP server
extensions loaded. Is it possible to publish an extended
web without an ISP? when I attempt to publish
to "http:\\<IPaddress_ here>\<my_web>" I get server dose
not have FP extensions installed. Is this because I am
not published thru an ISP? Can any one tell me a way

IIS needs to keep desktop awake
I know this is a really stupid question, but I normally
don't use Microsoft machines as servers and I'm not sure
how this works. I'm using IIS 5.0 on a W2K desktop. For
some reason, if I'm away from the computer for awhile, IIS
is "shutting down." I need the site to be available 24x7,
at least for a little while longer (until I can get
production space for the content).
I went into the "Power Management" options for W2K and
told it to never go into standby, never turn off the hard
drive, and never suspend. For some reason this didn't
solve the problem.
Any thoughts? Please email me your responses as I might
not be back to this board today.

IIS 5.0
I have set up a default FTP site on server WEB. I don't
want anonymous access. I want the domain users to be able
to log in and be directed to their home directory. The
domain controller is DOMAIN. It has their home
directories located on it. When I set up Virtual
Directories on WEB for ftp access I start by naming the
Alias the users domain name that will be using it. Next i
set the Path of that virtual directory to
\\DOMAIN\user\joe.bob. Then it asks for Security
Credentials(Specify a username and password that will be
used to gain access to the network path). This is where
I'm confused. If I put in the domain admins account and
password everything works fine, except for the fact that
the user will be able to access all the other virtual
directories because he was given admin security
credentials. I just want it to be where the domain user
joe.bob has to put in his account name and password so
that he can access \\DOMAIN\user\joe.bob and nothing
else. When it asks for Security Credentials for the
Virtual Directory of Joe.Bob I can't put his username and
password in because I don't know his password, or anyone
else that I make a virtual directory for.
Can someone point me in the right direction, because I
looked at some of the authentication methods for IIS and

IIS Permissions ASP 0201 Invalid Default Script Language Error
Hi, I'm getting a really confusing error while trying to get IIS
running on a win2k box, IIS 5.0 IIS lockdown tool installed.
I've already read MS KB 271071 How To: Set Basic NTFS Permissions for
IIS 5.0 and applied the changes to the server.
When I set the IUSR account as an admin asp iis everything runs fine
including my web app. When I change the IUSR account back to just
Guest and Web User (new account created by IIS lockdown tool) I get an
Invalid Default Script Language error. If add the IUSR account back
to the admin group, everything is fine again, as expected. This to me
seems like a permissions thing, but like I said I did exactly what the
KB article above instructed.
Anyone have any ideas. I've searched all over and found nothing
except instructions on how to add the default language to the website

I have added a server to my domain for intranet applications

Authentication across trusted domains in IIS 6.0
We just migrated to IIS 6.0 from IIS 5, and in our previous
production environment, we had basic authentication across trusted
domains, specifying "\" as the default domain in basic authentication.
The
same setting does not work with IIS 6.0; and users are forced to
specify their domain name in the login box before gaining access to
applications.
I would appreciate any help on information on how to achieve the same

IIS is Very Slow
Hello,
We just upgraded a test machine from Windows 2000 Server
to Windows Server 2003. The App is a mixture of ASP and
ASP.NET. We connect to an Oracle 9i DB running on a SUN (
Unix) box. Everything works, but all of the pages take
forever to load. The app was built using IIS 5 on Windows
2000. There's nothing fancy with the app and like I said
everything works, it's just really slow.
I am stuck on this. Can anyone suggest something for me to
check? IIS is pretty much running out of the box, so I am
hoping there is some setting I can change.

IIS 5.0 Isapi Filters
I added a Webtrends cookie filter (iiscookieserver.dll) to an IIS web
site. It successfully added, but when I try to access the web via
FrontPage (2000/2002) this new isapi filter prevents web access. When
I remove the filter, access is restored. Any suggestions as to why

How do I know which event is calling the specific ISAPI
filter loaded on the site. What I mean to ask is how do I

Passive FTP
I am running Microsoft FTP on Windows 2000 SP3 and IIS 5.0.

IIS and vbscript
I am writing a vbscript program to query IIS 5.0 servers for security attribute information among other things. I would like to run this program from a Windows NT or Windows 2000 workstation. Server name / IP address
I have an IIS box on my LAN. From IE I can get to the
default web page using http://myserver/ but I get page
not found when I try http://172.xxx.xxx.xxx/ where this
is the ip address of the server!!?? Everything checks
out in DNS and WINS. I even put an entry in my host file
and i can still get to it fine using the host name, but
using the ip address bombs everytime. Any suggestions?

ip addresses from qwest and IIS on office computer
So, I've got the ip addresses from qwest and the website is viewable within
our company from all the computers, I think kinda like an intranet. We can
type in 192.168.1.102 for example, from any computer in the office and the
website shows up.
What's the next step for having it be accessable to the outside? I'm sure

HELP!!! Bizarre Permissions/Form Error
I have a website that is running with the local IUSR credentials.
There are a couple of directories underneath the main site that require
Integrated Windows Authentication
I can navigate into those directories to display pages and the IIS server
gets my username and applies uses those credentials.
HOWEVER:
Once I do this, any page, whether using anonymous or windows authentication,
cannot get any items from the REQUEST.FORM collection. It appears empty. If
I close all browser windows, and do not go into a site that requires
authentication, all forms work properly, just until I go into the site.

anonymous still prompts for a password
Hello All,
Now that I've finally gotten my default site working,
(thank you again to everyone for their help), when I
connect to the site it prompts me for a password, even
though I have changed the password under the directory
services tab, and only anonymous access is checked.
The strange thing is the password that I put in to access
the site, is the same password I put in the Directory
services tab? This is all being done on WinXP Pro SP1
with all security patches and enhancements. Once I
changed all the passwords I restarted IIS and even the
computer and still get prompted for a password?
Any ideas?

Redirect ASP
I have one server running exchange OWA. I have created 2 virtual directories
so that I can have one used for internal LAN users and second being used by
users connecting from outside over the internet.
REason of having 2 seperate virtual directories is because outside VD is
protected by RSA logon where as it is not needed from inside.
I would like to have a page in the root of the website that can redirect
clients based on the host headers. e. g. clients typing http://server1 gets
redirected to /exchange VD and clients using http://webmail.mydomain.com
gets redirected to /external VD. Clients can use the VD at the moment if
they type /exchange or /external after the hostname but that causes many
user errors (as usual - typing errors, stupid mistakes etc.) and having the
redirection simplifies the process for user and reduces oru helpdesk calls.

Redirecting a URL
I have two sites set up on a server. One is the old site,
which redirects to a specific URL of the new site on that
server.
The business wants a folder deep inside the old site to
redirect to a different place in the new site.
My problem is that i can't redirect to anything else that
what I set the top level of the old site to redirect to.
Any way I can make the redirect in iis not recursive so
that I cna give this one folder a different redirect url
that works? do I need to pass some type of parameters
somehow?

How do I install a CGI-BIN in IIS5. Do i just create a new folder under
wwwroot and name it cgi-bin or do i have to do something special. I am
familiar with IIS but not with perl scripts with IIS. Other servers I have

IIS usage help needed - newbie?
Hello,
I am trying to use IIS 5.1 with my OEM XP Pro (SP1). I
have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled IIS from the
XP CD, but I still have the same problem. I can go into
the MMConsole, but when I start the IIS application, I
only get the top level of directory tree item of IIS.
There are no web sites or FTP sites displayed or that can
be expanded in the IIS window. The tree does not have
a "+" sign next to it to expand. How do I get IIS to show
my "wwwroot" (it is there on the c:\drive) in the
directory tree structure of the IIS window? Is this a
security rights issue? I am logged on as an
administrator. What do I have to turn on or change
security on to make IIS work? Something appears to
be "broken" in the software, and I haven't been able to
find any other posts or information to correct this issue.
I have installed XP Pro (SP1) on separate laptop and the
IIS worked just fine. I have installed all of the Windows
updates as of 10-27-03. I have .net installed versions 1
and 1.1.

Using IIS once it is installed?

I've installed IIS on both WinXP and Win .net standard
server rtm eval. In both cases the installation seems to
go through without a hitch. But, when i try to access the
default websites on either machine both tell me that the
page cannot be displayed due to invalid credentials.
I've tried using anonymous login, checked permissions and
even put the IIS user accounts in the local Admin group.
It still will not let me access the website. I running
these locally, just for app testing. IS there anything
else I should try? I was under the impression that after
installation that you should be able to access the default
website without any further configuration? It seems to me
that I may be missing a step somewhere along the way?
Any help would be appreciated. As a side note the
Security Event log creates two entries in reference to the
IWAM computer account, whenever i try to open the site?
Both instances have all security patches and features
installed, I'm not sure if they have anything to do with
this or not?

download file limitation
Hello
I have a site on on my win2k3 webserver and I got small zipfiles on it.
Is there any way of limit the filedownload to three or a set number of downloaders?
So there are only three persons downloading this file, no more.
Is there also a way to implement and make it different for different directories?
if I got somefile.zip in one directory and I want to limit this file like stated above and one file "somefile2.zip" in other directory ... is it then possible to have limit of downloads on somefile.zip and dont have limits on somefile2.zip that is in the other directory!! Known issues with running Apache and IIS simultaneously?
Hello,
My company is considering running Apache and IIS together on one
server. I have researched the possibilities of doing this on the web,
but I have found little information apart from basic configuration
instructions and some known configuration problems.
I would appreciate it if anyone who has successfully (or
unsuccessfully) been running a system like this for some time could
let us know about their experiences - what sort of performance they've
been getting, problems that they have encountered, etc.
