    - Monitoring Load Balanced Websites I've spent a fair amount of time searching for information on monitoring website health and availbility; but have not come across anything that addresses sites hosted on network load balanced servers. Has anyone else found a way of accurately determining if a site is down or experiencing problems on a specific server and ultimately reporting overall availability of the site?     - Hit Highlighting PDF error The hit highlighting returns an "unspecified error" (literally" or returns the parameters without the highlighted test (the area between begindetail and enddetail). We are indexing pdf files with indexing server and IIS. All other aspects of the indexing work correctly except this part. We have .htw registered with webhits.dll and urlscan is not on the machine. The application is being moved from a windows NT machine with indexing server 2 to the current one with index server 3. We have taken out the depricated parts and still we get this error.     - COM+ error 4689 Hello, We have windows 2003 server with IIS and SQL server running 150+ websites. We have a set of classic asp scripts that run the front-end and cms for our websites. We use a number of third-party components for added functionality (aspEmail, aspJpeg, aspPDF, aspUpload, chartDirector, Livestats, Argosoft Mail Server, ISAPI rewrite, LIveBandwidth, ServU, Jmail) Every few days we get a stream of approx 200 error messages in the event viewer (application) relating to COM+ errors. We do not run our own COM applications. The paths in the error messages do not seem to relate to actual directories or files. Sometimes if there are too many error messages then IIS will lock-up and an IIS reset works to get the website back online. Reducing the 'recycle worker processes' to 120mins has helped to reduce the number of occurances of this problem. We want to find and fix the source of these COM errors. Any help greatly appreciated!     - Replaced Chars with IIS Hi, We've developped an ISAPI extension for one of our customer. Our customer POST XML datas to an URL. The problem is that every '+' sign contained in XML datas are replaced by space chars by IIS. We use IIS on XP PRO SP2. We verified (using ethereal) that '+' sign is really sent to the server.     - memory sizing I was wondering what the memory utilization cap is for IIS. Is it 1GB for the Inetinfo.exe process as for most other Windows processes. For instance, I know that you can invoke the /3GB switch in the boot.ini file for a SQL or Exchange server so that the respective server processes can use up to 3GB of memory. Does this apply to other processes like IIS and/or is it realistic that the process will make use of that additional memory if it is made available. I'm basically trying to determine if a pending request for 4GB of memory in a web server is valid. The server will be providing the Report processing for SQL Reporting Services and will be limited to the web components (SQL portion will reside on another physical server).     - Remote access to IP restricted pages Hi, I'm using IIS 5 on Win 2k Server. I have a directory that is restricted by IP (and has to be for copyright purposes), I want a method of allowing valid users who are working outside our IP range to be able to access the pages. I tried combining IP restriction with Windows authentication, but that didn't work (one overrode the other as far as I could tell).     - Website doesnot displays images in IISServer Hello, I am facing a problem related to IIS Server installed with Windows 2000 Server. I put my website in wwwroot directory of my server WIN2KSERVER, the name of folder is SITE. The webiste is working properly if accessed from that folder using an Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1. All the images in the site are displaying properly. I know that my website is desgned using RELATIVE web addressing and there is not hardcoded links. Also the IE is setted to display images. The problem is that if i access the site from IIS Server using http://win2kserver/site/index.htm then all the images in the site does not displayed at all. What may be the problem?     - Disappearing dots! Hi, This is a question relating to classic ASP. We have an asp page that writes a url into a hyperlink. The hyperlink is very straightforward: "myfile.asp?myvalue1=" & strMyValue. When the page loads, the hyperlink is written wrongly - for some reason, the dot before the file extension disappears. Now, the weird thing is, this only occurs on one server. The exact same file runs as it should on other servers.     - Not getting a 404, getting "The system cannot find the path specified." or "The specified module could not be found." instead Hi all, I have a 2003 IIS box that I have just moved an ISAPI app over to and I am changing directories and paths. I have set a 404 redirect in the website Custom Errors section, that simply points to the main ISAPI dll, but no matter what URL I use in my browser, I get "The system cannot find the path specified." if the URL includes a path that doesn't exist, and "The specified module could not be found." if just the requested file doesn't exist.     - IIS will not display ASP pages I rebuilt a Windows XP web server and then restored the inetpub folder intact from backup. Now when I try to access the home page as http://dell9/ I get a "The page cannot be displayed HTTP 500 - Internal server error." The home page is set as default.asp. However, I can get an alternate home page to display using http://dell9/default.htm When I check IIS Manager, I see that the security is set at Anonymous Access (IUSER_DELL) and Integrated Windows authentication. Under Home Directory I see the application is called Default Application and I have Read access and Scripts Only execute permissions.     - IIS6 App Pools fail to start after April updates (2003 Web edition Any help much appreciated - I can't even serve up a static html page at the moment...! Immediately after installation of April updates, all web application pools failed to start with the error 1009 "A process serving application pool 'VanillaSites' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '2536'. The process exit code was '0xffffffff'." I believe I've uninstalled all the updates (and rebooted a few times) but I still can't get any site to run. There are no ISAPI filters at the site or sites level, I've removed them and disabled all web extensions to solve the problem of serving up a static file first... Any ideas what restrictions could stop the w3wp process launching? It is a standalone webserver ie not part of an active directory, so no Group Policy. I set up a new application pool, and a new site containing a single plain html page which is the only site in that pool - it still falls over with the error above. Doesn't seem to make any difference what the pool identity is set to.     - Cookies I am not sure if I am in the correct place or not but I was wondering if someone could explain to me how, if possible I can keep my web server from requiring visitors to accept cookies or even be prompted. I am not aware of putting any code in my website that pushes a cookie but when I go to several of my sites I get prompted for a cookie.     - IIS admin tool generating errors (ASP.NET 2.0) Hello All: I'm very new to this. I have IIS 5.0 on my Windows 2000 PC (standalone). I'm playing around with Visual Studio Web Express. Within Studio express, I can get my application to run when I go to "View in Browser". When I try and copy the directory structure over to the InetPub/wwwroot directory, I get problems like "Syntax error", etc.. so I know I don't have IIS5.0 working properly. I'm using .net 2.0 Beta. This could be the problem. Anyhow, 2 questions: 1. When I go to Control Panel and into IIS Admin tool and select the virtual directory (which is my web app that runs fine in Studio Express) and hit the right mouse button, I see a bunch of tabs. One of them is "ASP.NET". Whenever I click on that tab, I get "Application error generated in mmc.exe, please restart". I don't get to see details of the error or the like. I have no clue what's causing this. 2. Is it that maybe IIS 5.0 is too old to have .net 2.0 ??? How can I upgrade to IIS 6.0 or later? Also, I have an old Oreilly book called ".NET framework essentials" which is dated 2000. Problem is most of those examples do NOT work when I try and install them into a directory with my IIS (ie, InetPub/wwwroot). I get syntax errors and other things. I cannot seem to find a decent web-site/documentation that explains "how" to get IIS 5.0 (or 6 if I can figure out how to upgrade it) to configure .NET 2.0 applications/web-sites for Windows 2000 professional so that I can invoke ASP pages that can execute C#/VB code thanks for any help...     - IIS 6 upgrade event ID 1131 We have upgraded to Window 2003 and now we have sites not starting. Error is 1131, but we have 1500 sites using different port # and 1/3 are not starting. We made the MS KB change for MaxEndPoints to 1024. If we stop a site, we can restart another site. Sites have litttle traffic. Seems like a setting that is limiting the number of sites running? But I can't find how to... The solution of having virtual directories (http://mypc/site1 ) are not good, because I have tgo change a lot of variables and stuff when finally putting the website on-line (in http://www.CompanySite.com ) Thanks! Server A=1.2.3.4 Server B=1.2.3.5 Server C=1.2.3.6 ok server A is our primery DNS server, server B is the secondery, we've launched a service for our clients on port 1111 that was installed on server B, the service is accesable by typing http://1.2.3.5:1111, so we would like to create a name to resolve to this so if they type http://service.domain.com it should redirect to port 1111 on server B, whats the best waty to do this?     - Win2003 IIS - Create Application causes "Element not found" error On our Windows 2003 server, I go into the IIS Manager, right click the folder I wish to make an application, and then go into Properties. >From there, I click the "Create" button which should create an application, but instead I get an "Element not found" error box. If I press OK to close the properties dialogue and then open it up again, the application was actually created (although without a name). What could be causing this?     - Multiple User folder in FTP AD Isolation mode HI , I used AD isolation mode and created FTP site successfully in windows 2003 server SP1, IIS 6.0. The site is work great. I used the following commad in script in order to defining users home directory same as their shared directory in USERS folder. iisFTP /SetADprop jhon FTPRoot \\SERVER\USERS iisFTP /SetADprop jhon FTPDir \jhon Now the problem is, John want to access other directory in USERS folder when connects through FTP. But this script mapped only jhon sub directory as his home FTP directory. How can we have multiple home directory? when I chnged above line to iisFTP /SetADprop jhon FTPDir \users, just wanted to make users folder as home directory for all users. But I got error message when tried to connect via FTP "Errot 530 Home Directory is inaccessable". I added all users in USERS permission as FULL access, but still same problem.     - A share located on another computer problem Hi all, Hope you can shed some light... I am attempting to set up a virtual directory on my Windows 2003/IIS6 server which would be a "share located on another computer". I specified "Connect As" credentials and the UNC path seems to work fine (e.g. when I intentionally change a character in it, IIS immediately complaints that this is not a valid UNC path, so I know the path is correct and the connection to the other machine works). I also enabled Basic Authentication, and disabled Anonymous and NT authentications. Now, when I try to open a page from that virtual directory in the browser, I get a logon box. NO MATTER what usernames/passwords I try, I just can't login to that page -- IIS is not letting me. What gives???? Even if I enable anonymous access, I still have the same behavior.     - Cannot connect to IIS Website from outside Hi there folks, I'm still relatively new to this whole game, and am seeking a little direction. My scenario is as follows - I have IIS setup on one of the two pcs on my LAN, I created a website which I am capable of viewing on the PC that hosts the website, also I am capable of typing in the IP of that PC on my other LAN PC and bringing it up on there. However what I can't seem to figure out is how to get to see the website from the outside world. I've read a multitude of forum threads which have been pretty informing, but I've yet to come across scenarios that match mine. I read a lot about DNS server configurations but I'm not fully literate on that whole shebang (and from what I understand regardless of my DNS configuration I should still be able to connect to my IP address...) My 2 LAN Pc's are hard wired to a Dell Wireless 2350 which is connected to my SpeedStream DSL modem. Again I have nary a problem connecting locally but I've had zero success connecting from the outside. I'm not asking for a tutorial to resolve my particular situation, but some good websites for reference would be greatly appreciated. This website is awesome, so awesome in fact that I think it's a bit too complicated for the likes of a layman such as myself. Thank you all for your time!     - ActivePerl / IIS6 / Windows Server 2003 SP1 I've seen a number of postings about this error: CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers I haven't run any perl script on this machine since before it was running Win Server 2003. The Web Service Extension is set up. The Application Extension for .pl files, to be run by perl.exe is set up. The IIS anonymous user has permissions on the perl.exe, which is version 5.8.4.810. The simplest of scripts gives that error. i.e. #!C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; print "show me the monkey"; Replacing \n\n with \r\n or \n\n\n or \n\n\n\n or \r\n\r\n does not help!     - Simple ASP Script Question - How to unload object reference? Very simple ASP script (below). I create an instance of a particular class. I call a method and send the response back. From my COM/ActiveX frame of reference (VB6), I would expect that NU would go out of scope at the completion of the page, the reference count would fall to 0 and the loaded NetUtils class instance would be dumped. I'm finding though that once this script executes, the DLL which provides this class, cannot be updated without restarting the server. It seems as though IIS is still holding a 'hidden' reference to this class instance. How can I ensure that this class instance it destroyed when the script completes? Thanks very much for your help! We have a win2k3 box and for some reason, the websites, mail and other ports
stops responding after a while. It seems to work fine for like 6-8 hours,
then it just stops, until we reboot the server.

I know this question might be asked before, but no answer can be found
anywhere. This is rather urgent, and any help woule be appreciated.
