    - Web Page running slower in Win2003 IIS 6 than Win2000 IIS 5 We have a web application which run fine win 2000 IIS v5. But when we moved it to a new, faster server having windows 2003 and IIS 6, it ran slower than it used to. Any ideas why this is so? Some more background info is that we have a module which upload an xml file to the server then loads this file to display to the user. We upload first the file because after the user chooses what to to with the file, then since the file is already in the server, it is loaded up and parsed node per node according to the user and saved into the database. There isn't actually anything wrong when the file is being uploaded because it will really take some time. But there was a significant change during the time the xml was being parsed and saved to the database since the server upgrade. I can't tell if it is because of XML perser since our Win2000 and new Win2003 both uses XML v4 Sp2. I'm really stuck, can you please help. By the way, all of this are still in classic ASP. We already assigned and application pool for our web. Are there any settings in IIS that I should change? I am trying to experiment settings in IIS first rather than changing the code since it was working fine with the previous version (win2000). Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - IIS Refusing to deliver .properties file to browser An applet we are working with is trying to request a trkStrings.properties file on a IIS box and getting a 404 error. We get the same error trying to get in thru IE. If we rename the file to trkStrings.txt, we have no problem getting the file, but the applet is not looking for trkStrings.txt. My guess is .properties is reserved and IIS is not allowing it to be sent. I am mainly a Tomcat guy and am trying to help my wife with a work problem.     - IIS on Windows 2003 Web - UPN question I have an IIS system that I can login on either from a local or remote Windows XP system using my UPN (name@domain.com) - but when I try to login using my UPN from a Windows 2000 Pro system it will not work -- I have to login as domain\user. I am reading that Windows 2000 support UPN login - so I must have something misconfigured? Again - all XP systems seem to work, but those same accounts on 2k systems do not and the domain\user syntax (or user/password/domain) must be used. How can I fix this?     - https:// not working in IE but does work in Firefox I am running IIS 6.0 on 2003 SP1. I have been running SSL using an InstantSSL certificate for almost a year with no problems. My certificate is set to expire soon so I did a renew certificate. I received the new InstantSSL certificate and installed it. IIS manager said the certificate was fine. However, any https:// communication using IE 6 on XP SP2 doesn't work - I get the page not found error. It does work in Firefox. I have tried clearing my cache, clearing SSL state, tried many different computers - but can't get IE to connect. I have changed nothing on my web server except installed the new certificate.     - Formmail / CGI / IIS 6 I have a form (using formmail) which uses CGI Perl script to send the mail; however, I have a problem because I am not sure how to configure the SMTP of IIS to allow this relay. In the script, there is a section for mail server. For example /usr/bin/sendmail (for *Nix Sendmail) or I can use Windows command line BLAT.EXE - c:\windows\system32\blat.exe. What would it be for IIS 6.0 SMTP? I prefer to use the SMTP service of that local IIS 6.0 box.     - Home Directory on root of drive I have moved my Default Website from c:\InetPub\wwwroot to d:\ so that it is on a different drive. Does IIS have any known problems when pointed to the root of the drive. It is causing quite a few problems for me especially with ASP.NET (works fine if I create d:\wwwroot). I currently have a script that does that but it must be run locally.     - ISAPI URL Rewrite Hello ALL, I am trying to implement the ISAPI Url Rewrite filer. I have various pages that I am trying to convert as below: www.mydomain.com/showmanufacturergroup.asp?sessionid=849466AA51352175... to www.mydomain.com/Manufacturer_ProductType.htm another example: www.mydomain.com/showproducts.asp?sessionid=849466AA513521750&categor... to www.mydomain.com/Manufactuer_ModelNumber.htm As you can see the difference asp pages have specific rules and only display the manufacturer name.     - pchealth .hdmp files I noticed we had little space left on our C drives of our web servers and upon further investigation found a whole lot of .hdmp files. Obviously dump files, but I'm a little dissapointed I just found them. Does anyone know what actually generates these. More importantly, what's the best way to read them?     - Can't browse .htm file from MMC or IE Greetings I have come to my wits end trying to figure this out. So any assistance is appreciated. I have a Windows 2003 server with 2 web sites on it. The one I have problems with is the default web site that also is the front end for OWA Rather than have users browse to https://outlook.company.com/exchange I want to have them go to http://outlook.company.com/index.htm that provides information about the new site and a link to the secure site. My problem is this: I can enter https://outlook.company.com/exchange and all is well. When I try to browse to ANY file at http://outlook.company.com/ I get the Page cannot be displayed and a cannot find server error. I get this from the server itself on the MMC or IE. I tried creating a test.txt with the same results. I can use the Windows Explorer and bring up the files just fine. I created a new site with the test.txt and it works fine. The permissions (site/NTFS)look fine. Nothing special there. Restarting IIS, rebooting, and evil looks have not worked. If I look in the event log, I see the following (the first 2 events are from the Application Log): 1) A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '1568'. The process exit code was '0xc0000005'. 2) A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process id was '2236'. The data field contains the error number. 3) Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.1830, faulting module w3core.dll, version 6.0.3790.1830, fault address 0x000201cc.     - IIS + Forms Hi All Apologies if this is really obvious but I would like to use a couple of forms on my web site (IIS 6) and am not sure which is the easiest way of submitting the forms, I would ideally like to use the SMTP within IIS but have no idea how to do the code part for the submission of the form itself and I dont want a box coming up informing people that the form will use the default MAPI client etc either. Can anyone point me to an "idiots guide" site that uses CGI or an equivalent or give me a sample of code that will give me somewhere to start?     - web folder and https Hi, I've set up a web folder on a server with a proper certificate installed on it. The cert works fine and we have several applications running on the server and they all require https. Unfortunately, something is not workling correctly with the web folder and https. I am currently not requiring secure channel on this web folder. I can map a drive to the folder using http://host.domain/webfolder and it works perfectly. If I try to map to using https://host.domain/webfolder, I get popup saying network path https://host.domain/webfolder not found when it attempt to connect. When I use IE to look at the URL, https://host.domain/webfolder it asks for authentication, I enter it, and I can see the contents of the directly. But if I try to access any of the files, I get a HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. Internet Information Services (IIS) error page. Any idea why it isn't working? I've checked the cert on this directrory and it's as it should be. IIS is running on W2k3 SP1 and am accessing it with XP SP2. any help would be appreciated as this is getting to be urgent now.     - Deploying ASP.NET Please point me to a more appropriate newsgroup if this one is not correct for this issue. Basically I have an ASP.NET app that is running fine on my development machine, but when I copy it to the webserver it crashes with a Specified Cast is Invalid error.     - Is there a personal web server in XP equivalent to PWS in win 98? Hi everyone, happy new year! I am a beginner trying to learn how to program in ASP. The very first thing that is already becoming a roadblock is to set up a web server. I have a windows98 laptop, by setting up a PWS, I was able to use Visual Interdev environment for my ASP project, although during setup I encoutered a number of error situations, but that is not the point here. Anyway, my development environment is ok in the laptop. My desktop is a Windows XP professional. I assume the IIS is the equivalent to PWS in 98. But after I installed IIS, I don't have the localhost setup, nor the \inetpub\wwwroot setup for me. When I started InterDev, I got the "Unable to contact web server http://localhost" error message, and cannot continue on. What did I do wrong?     - Logs Not Appearing Hello.. I have IIS 5 on WIN2000 Server. We host multiple sites, almost all are generating log files. One site was not configured to generate the logs and I enabled that about 24 hours ago. They would be saved to the default location. No logs have appeared. I started and stopped that particular site. Hello All, Recently I installed .NET Framework 2.0 on a Win2003 server, then I upgraded two web sites to ASP.NET 2.0.50727 (both web sites are related to SharePoint Services but I think the problem is related to IIS only). Apparently at first access to each site, two events appear in Application Log, in the following order: --------------------------------------- Source: Application Error Category: (100) Event ID: 1004 Reporting queued error: faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.1830, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x005f0062. --------------------------------------- Source: Application Error Category: None Event ID: 1001 Fault bucket 224602749. --------------------------------------- Fault address and fault bucket vary in log events but I think they are unchanged for each web site. I have added the necessary MIME Type for serving ISO files, however whenever I click the link and try to download (which no longer gives me the 404 error since I added the MIME type) only 753 Bytes get downloaded and IE says download complete.     - Config IIS 6 to run both .Net Framework 1.1 and 2.0 I'm trying to get IIS 6 on Server 2003 to run various web sites built on .net 1.1 and 2.0. Both work .net versions work but not at the same time. If the first site to run is a 1.1 then the 2.0 site fails and vice versa till I restart IIS. I get an application event telling me it's not possible to run two different versions of .Net in the same IIS process.     - IIS with NLB and host headers I have network load balancing (NLB) set up on two servers that will run multiple websites with different host headers. I am setting up a test site to make sure that it will work and I cannot seem to get it to work. I have the following setup: DNS entry that routes to the virtual IP of the NLB. When I set up a website on port 8000 on the NLB machines, the site is accessible, but when I set up a site on port 80 with host header value of the DNS entry, it does not work.     - Moving IIS 4.0 sites to new NT 4.0/IIS 4.0 server Hello, We still run a large number of websites on NT4.0/IIS 4.0. Because of stability issues, we are targeting "problematic" websites and will move them to a duplicate IIS 4.0 server.     - IIS6 to IIS5 rollback? I upgraded a server on our network to Windows Server 2003. During the upgrade it updated the IIS version from 5 to 6. The problem is that Rational ClearQuest does not support IIS 6 and no one can login using the web client interface. In what way do you think that this is related to IIS (a webserver)? We
need to know this so we can help you with this problem. Because i don't
think that IIS can cause this.

If you posted this into the wrong newsgroup, you may want to try to post
this to one of the Windows XP newsgroups (if that is the OS you are using):
