    - How to add a website automatic to the application pool? From time to time I have to deploy a new website onto my webservers. I just robocopy the new website into the wwwroot's. But in order for the website to work properly I have to add them to the default application pool. Is there a way to make every (new) website automaticly join the application pool?     - NLB probs after firewall install Hi, I've just run the Security Configuration Wizard on a Windows 2003 Server SP2 (standard) with NLB running and now the NLB can't seem to connect to this server. When I click Host Status in the NLB Manager it says 'Could not read interface configuration from host'. Can anyone tell me what exceptions I need to allow through the firewall for NLB to work between the servers and whether the SCW may cause other issues? Thanks - Ian.     - How to host multiple SSL websites using multiple network cards Hi, I've been trying to get this working for a while but I'm getting nowhere fast! I've got two websites using separate IP addresses on separate network cards, both with their own SSL certificates. The problem is that windows only allows a single default gateway on one external network card and as such I can only get one site working at one time. (Each network card connects to a different firewall with a different public IP address). I think I'm missing something obvious, but no matter what I try (static routes mapping each public ip to a particular route - 255.255.255.255 mask) nothing is working. I know that I can get 2 sites working using a wildcard certificate, but I need to use separate certificates for each site. Does anyone have any ideas? Many Thanks.     - IIS Authentication Problem Hello, i have a Problem with my Web Server (Windows Server 2003 64bit). When I try to call a website with the domain name like www.mysite.ext, then the ie aks username and password, but when i call the site with the ip or with localhost, it works. I have activated only anonymous authentication (windows authentification is not activated), and the anonymous user has enough rights, the network service too. The IIS is running in 32 bit mode.     - Access application via www.domain/folder Gurus, I have an application that runs on a machine on my LAN. Users on the lan access it by navigating to the machine's IP address in IE. Is there any way for me to allow some outside users to access this app., by going to my website (server is on same network as app machine), ie www.mydomain.com/app? SharePoint Central Administration 5. companyweb - TCP Port: 80 / SSL Port: 444 I need to add SSL and then a certificate for the Office Terminal so that my office employees can send payment information to our online merchant gateway... how do I go about doing that... the SSL part??? I've tried simply adding the SSL port number 443, and turning off the Default Web Site, but then I get 'page not found' when trying to navigate to a page using the https protocal.     - Intranet Web sites - need help I would like to create several websites on one Win2K3 IIS server and have users reach them by simply typing http://site1, http://site2, etc.. I guess I've read so much about this that I'm confused. I understand that it is possible and is even referenced in the Win2K MCSE Training Kit - Windows 2000 Server, p 860. It says it can be done but it seems as if it's a massive effort to avoid disclosing just how with real world examples of setting up websites as such in an Intranet. All the examples refer to internet sites. I've created a couple simple one page websites to test with. I've installed DNS Server and created a forward lookup zone to point to my ISP DNS servers. I've configured the clients to point to this DNS server. It works. What I have been struggling with is this Host Headers concept and trying to map a simple single-word name to an inernal IP address. We don't have AD installed but will probably promote our server to a DC in the near future and start using AD. So.. I don't have a "domain" so to speak to setup DNS with.. I just made one up when installing DNS. Remember this is all internal and there is no intent for any of these sites to be available from the internet. So why can't I get a http://site1 and http://site2 without the "zone.com" suffix needing to be appended ? I've read so many references that this is possible but no examples of this anywhere. I have : - One server - Server01. Running DNS Server & IIS. - Web sites: site1 & site2 - Host Header names for each site of site1 & site2 respectively that point to the server's IP address. - DNS Zone: TestZone - Host Record: Site1 - pointing to the IP address of Server01 I can't reach the site with http://site1 but I can reach the site by entering http://site1.testzone This is driving me nuts.. Why can't I create a single-word host record that points to an IP address and forget the rest of it? I would like our users to be able to type http://site1 without having to qualify it with the zone/domain suffix.. I prefer not to use hosts files or appending suffixes or touch the client TCP/IP configs at all (although at this point it would be easier) because we are likely to setup AD soon and I would like a dns server- only solution. I've read Q324260 & Q323445 and numerous other resources and I follow them until the point of creating the host record in the DNS server.. Then I say to myself.. well HOW ? and HOW do I get this to work? Obviously this is more of a DNS question.. Are there any comprehensive yet easy to follow guidelines for doing this ? A book maybe (besides anything MSPRess) that would help? If we don't own a domain then how can I set up DNS so that we don't have to refer to blah.com or something nonexistant domain and have to type blah.com to the suffix of any of our internal websites?     - WMS connection problem (only works when IIS6 is started) I have a problem connecting to WMS that only seems manifest itself when I shut down the IIS server running on the same machine . . . Here is the configuration Server ----------- Win2003 Server R2 Standard w/SP2 - Machine runs multiple services and has multiple IP addresses on it's "public" facing NIC, lets call them IPAddr1 (WMS) and IPAddr2 (IIS) Win Media Server 9.0 - Several remote media encoders are sending live video streams via HTTP protocol to the server via IPAddr1. This is working just fine. - Media Player clients connect to this server to play these live streams IIS6 - HTTPCFG was used to disable socket pooling and set up http.sys listener on IPAddr2 for the web transactions (which are for a separate applications and are not related in any way to the Media Stream server streams) Client-side ------------------- - Win Mobile 5 PDA's accessing the media stream through IPAddr1 using MMS protocol - Win Media Players (Win XP, Win 2000, variety of releases) using MMS and RTSP protocols through the same IPAddr1 assigned to WMS. - Connection to the WMS is driven by URL's (with MMS service moniker) embedded in web pages running on a web site on a completely different machine/server. Symptoms ------------------- We see slow startup connections or no connections from the desktop OS, and no connections at all from the PDAs when we have stopped the IIS web server on the machine (although the HTTP.SYS and IIS admin services are still running). If I start a web server instance, all the connection problems go away. I am confused by this. Other than both utilizing port 80, I did not think there was any interaction between IIS and the Media server. Can anyone tell me whats going on here and what is causing the connections to fail unless I have an IIS server instance started? I've checked the port and address assignments and IPAddr1 and IPAddr2 are segregated from each other and only assigned to WMS and IIS, respectively. Thanks in advance for any assistance.     - problem seeing IIS Website on a LAN I have created a simple website on ISS on my local machine running XP pro. It works locally using http://localhost or http://[ipaddress] The problem is that I cannot see it from other PCs on the LAN, even though they are in the same workgroup as my PC, and even though I can ping my machines IP Address from the other machines. To try and open the website from the other machines I am using an address of the form http:/[ipaddress]. My default IIS website is running on port 80.     - IIS6 with FTP for remote webmaster I read the previous thread on a similar question, but I had a couple more questions. My site needs to be maintained by a remote user who uses dreamweaver and other programs and the new site will be completely new. He wants to use an ftp program to transfer files, but I have read this is very unsecure. I am also running exchange on this server so it needs to stay secure. Would I setup an ftp site using the home directory of the website? What is the proper way to do this? Is there a better way to publish files without using one of the web designer programs?     - Application State Unload I have written an ASP.Net web application in C#. On Appplication_Start the code loads some data from the database into memory. It stores the data in Application State variables. The data is read only. So far so good. If no one uses the Application for a certain period of time IIS unloads it from memory. If someone then access the application the code reloads all the data again into Application State variables. This takes about 3 minutes to do. Where is the setting in IIS or machine.config or app.config or web.config that determines the time period of inactivity before IIS unloads an application from memory?     - 405 error when posting from Flash / C#. Fine from html form. I am trying to use flash or even a c# code-behind to post to a aspx docoument with the link being posted to is like : www.example.com/submit/ and it contains a default documents of default.aspx. When I do this via C# or flash we get a 405 error. On the other hand if I just make a simple html form to submit to the aspx document it works fine. Any suggestions? However, if I click the drop down for ASP.NET version, my only choices are 1.1.4322 or 2.0.50727. I expected to be able to select version 3. Is the .net framework independent of the ASP.NET version?     - MSScriptControl randomly fails when running from .Net code on IIS We have been seeing an unusual and intermittent problem with some .Net 1.1 .aspx pages running on IIS 4.0 on a pair of load-balanced Windows 2000 SP4 servers. Basically we are using the class MSScriptControl (v.1.0 Interop DLL) in our code to load and run custom VBScript dynamically on pages. This has been working fine for years until the last few weeks when we have been getting periods of a few days where the AddCode() method just throws an exception unexpectedly. This is very strange as we havenâ??t changed anything in the build. What is even stranger, is that when it is failing, we can run a test windows application on the same server that will load and run exactly the same script in exactly the same way, while the .aspx page doing the same thing on IIS always fails...and then all of a sudden everything is working fine again! I have been using front page do author the site from the inside of the firewall for the last few years. I have hired a web developer to create a better page and I need to allow him to be able to author the site from over the internet. I believe that he is using Dreamweaver. What is the best way to allow him to be able to author the site from over the internet? I am guessing that he can not use FrontPage server extension.     - AJAX Toolkit Documentation on Vista 500.19 Installed the documentation following the install instructions to the letter although the steps seem to have been written for IIS6 and earlier. A virtual directory is created which points to the folder containing the website files including its own pre-configured web.config. The documentation says that if the location of the directory and an empty folder for the databases to be created are exactly as described, no modification should be necessary to the web.config. Returning the error at the end of this post on the webpage when attempting to access the page "http://localhost/AJAXdocs" "As Administrator" where I mapped the virtual directory "AJAXdocs" to the specified files. Vista's Default website's web.config is default and mostly empty, so I don't see anything to do there unless a default setting blocks a "child" virtual directory web.config. I also don't see anything recognizable to modify browsing the various IIS7 objects. I assume that the web.config for the AJAX documentation <should> be suitable for a virtual directory since the instructions for deployment is that configuration. Maybe should somethig be added to the Default Website's web.config or is there an IIS7 setting I've missed?     - Vista, Classic ASP, VB6 Response.BinaryWrite Problem I have a legacy ASP app that works fine on IIS 5.1 and 6.0. In one case, theASP calls a VB6 COM dll to stream binary data in response to an HTTP request to resolve an HTML SRC tag. I have two test cases: streaming files less than 5K in size and streaming files greater than 20K in size. Things work fine for the small files (~5K), but not the larger ones (~23K). I do one large BinaryWrite into the ASP buffer for the entire file. Using Ethereal, it appears no file data is returned to the browser for the larger files. I tried breaking the binary writes up into chunks that were 4K in size with no success. The same web app also streams files using a C++ COM component. That C++ component does the same thing the VB component does except it always calls BinaryWrite using 4K blocks. It works great. This all works on XP, IIS 5.1, but not Vista, IIS7. It looks like there is some sort of bug when using Response.Write from a VB6 COM Component if the size of the data exceeds some value that must lie between 5 and 23K (I didn't try to experiment to pin down the exact size limitation).     - SSI Caching Can someone please explain how the caching of SSI content works on IIS 6? I have a web site header comprised of an SSI that is periodically updated (once every few weeks). On more than one occaision, I have noticed that an old copy of the header is kept in my browser's (IE7) cache for certain pages on the web site. Shouldn't I see the new header if the SSI has been updated? Or is caching just dependent on the page itself with no relation to whether the SSI has been updated? I'd like to serve pages from an IISserver that reference image files stored on anothere fileserver but I don't want to make a public web server out of the fileserver.     - Generate a cert request with template in SBS2003 Good Morning Everyone, I hope everyone is doing well today. We're running SBS2003 SP1 w/ISA 2004. I am trying to generate a certificate request in IIS6 with the Wizard but it doesn't allow me to specify a template to be used so I am getting the error: The request contains no certificate template information. Denied by Policy Module 0x.... The request does not contain a certificate template extension or the Certificate Template request attribute. When I go into the CA and try to import the request, I get the above error. What is the proper way to generate a request in IIS 6 for SBS2003? I don't want to use the CEICW for this.     - dllhost getting hammered for memory Our intranet (classic asp + perl) runs on a fairly old W2k box, and recently, the performance is suffering through what looks like a memory leak via dllhost. I've been through the code and made sure its watertight for unclosed objects. Two things give me a particular problem. 1) more than one copy of dllhost is running, but nothing is in isolation modea and only one web site is running. 2) a number of sessions talking to the database server can be seen via the tcpip window on process explorer.     - subweb or new site I have a 'hidden' website I want to put out for a few people off of the main site. I'd like it to be something like www.site.com\hidden. I will password protect it later. What is the proper way to do this...create a subweb, do another site with different IP address, or alias of some kind? I can get it to work, but want to do it the proper way first. Also, what are the best methods for password protecting?..convert to PHP or use IIS? There won't be a lot of users but they are not local domain users.     - user sessions eating all my ram Hi. Im having problems with user sessions on IIS6 eating all my ram. Each w3wp.exe*32 service is consuling 30-40 mb .... and hurting other apps.     - Repost: How to set up Windows XP so that FrontPage recgonises local webs? Hi - can anyone help me? I'm reposting this because I've had no = responses to my original post, apart from one suggestion that I = uninstall and reinstall IIS, which I did but it made no difference. I'm using FrontPage 2000 and Windows XP SP2. I recently bought a new = laptop and I can't remember how to set up a local web so that FrontPage = will recognise it. On my old laptop, if I go into FrontPage and select = File + Open Web, I can see "Web folders" under "My Computer", and within = "Web folders" I can see "localhost", and all the websites that I have = created within localhost. Also, if I type http://localhost/ or = http://localhost/DavesWeb/, the website opens. I have copied all my data to my new laptop, and installed IIS and the = FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions. On my new machine I can go to = http://localhost/DavesWeb in my browser. But in FrontPage, if I select = File + Open Web, I can't see "Web folders" under "My Computer"; and if I = type http://localhost/ or http://localhost/DavesWeb/, I get a message = saying: "The folder http://localhost/DavesWeb/ [for example] isn't = accessible. The folder may be located on an unavailable volume or = protected with a password." The message box also referred me to a text = file, "wecerr.txt", which stated: "Server Application Error. The server = has encountered an error while loading an application during the = processing of your request. Please refer to the even log for more detail = [sic] information. Please contact the server administrator for = assistance." Yet as I say, I can open http://localhost/DavesWeb/ from within my = browser. Also, if I go into IIS on my new laptop and right-click the DavesWeb = folder and select "All Tasks" + "Open in FrontPage", it just opens = index.html, but not the website (i.e. there's no folder list). And if I = right-click on "Default Web Site" in IIS and select "All Tasks" + "Open = With FrontPage", I get in message in FrontPage saying: "The server could = not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service Provider or web = server administrator to make sure that the server has the FrontPage = Server Extensions installed. For more specific information click = Details." Clicking "Details" gives the same message as in "wecerr.txt" = above. Also, if I open "C:\inetpub\wwwroot" in FrontPage, and then right-click = on the "Davesweb" folder and select "Convert to web", I get a message: = "Server error: Unable to create a disk-based web at = "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Davesweb" because the parent web would not be a = disk-based web. Create the disk-based web elsewhere, outside of your web = server's document hierarchy." I tried googling for this, but the posts I = saw all said I should open the root web in FP as a server based web = (http://localhost) - which as I say, FrontPage won't let me do. And whereas on my old laptop, if I open http://localhost/Davesweb in = FrontPage and select Tools + Web Settings, the dialog box says "Server = version: Microsoft-IIS/5.1", on my new laptop, if I open = "C:\inetpub\wwwroot" in FrontPage (it won't let me open = "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Davesweb" as a web), and select Tools + Web = Settings, , the dialog box says "Server version: no server installed." Clearly I haven't configured IIS correctly in order for FrontPage to = recognise that there is a local web on http://localhost/ - although my = browser does recognise it. I got one more domain name www.xxx2.com which need to be pointing to the website. i added www.xxx2.com and xxx2.com to hostheader value. I also have 127.0.0.1 and the ip address added in the host header value.but only http://xxx2.com is working www.xxx2.com is not working.     - 939373 issue: The service did not respond to the start or control Hey folks on XP Pro here (SP 2) I have always had IIs started by default, but suddenly now i see my default (and only) website is off. i get this message when trying to start it - **"The service did not response to the start or control request in a timely fashion" running iisreset via Run > CMD gives me the following: Attempting stop... Internet services successfully stopped Attempting start... Restart attempt failed. IIS Admin Service is disabled So i went to Services, and IIS Admin Service is started. i restarted - and still the same notice. not sure if related, but World Wide Web Publishing seems to be stopped, trying to restart it gives the following error - **could not start remote installation service on local computer, error 127: the specified procedure could not be found Trying to uninstall/re-install FTP via Add/Remove Windows Components does not change anything. now , interestingly, somone mentioned the 939373 patch that was issued a few days ago. i tried UNINSTALLING it - and what do you know - my IIS and default web - WORK! but as soon as its installed again, they will not start, as above. several times, there are different Process ID of the application. And
Applicaction(..) dictionary is always empty.

You are seeing multiple w3wp.exe processes in Task Manager?
Can you check your web garden settings again please?
Can you also run iisapp.vbs which would tell you what web application pool
each worker process is assigned to.
