    - Publishing Problems I have created a website using Frontpage 2002 and it is now running in my IIS webroot directory. When I created the page originally I merely saved it to the root directory rather than publishing it to the directory. It works fine on the WWW, but when I tried to add a hitcounter and look in the "reports" section it reports the hitcounter as a non functioning component because it has to be published to a web to function properly. There seems to actually be a conflict because, even though the hitcounter shows up on the web, it causes a very long delay in the page loadup. So, I tried to publish the page to my IIS webroot directory (where my webpage is hosted) and I get the message "Use a different folder than the one containing the currently running web site", or something to that nature. Any ideas out there? I really want the hit counter and can also forsee other problems occuring as I construct my site further. Tag: Stopping services. Service: iisadmin Tag: 291796

    - Mac IE 5.0 (2022) (Release 36) Problem over SSL and IIS. Cannot submit data over secure connection Hello All, We are running IIS here. We are having problems running our Web Site in Secure Mode on the MAC/IE platform. This used to work until we SSL migrated our Verisign certificate to a new Web Server. We have basically come to a point where any ideas on how to fix this would be extremely helpful. If you have any ideas on this we would be more then grateful to hear them. Though the form works if not in secure mode, it will hang and never works with a secure connection. Resulting error from taking the above steps: Hanging, No visible error messages, and it will sit there and try to load for hours never making progress. ************* Synopsis ************* Recently we upgraded servers and successfully moved our certificate per your technical instructions. Although secure connections will work on windows platform, we are having problems with Mac users and have tested the problem on Mac/IE5.0 and when any data is submitted securely it hangs and will never go through. We can only receive data from forms not in secure mode on the Mac platform. With the latest versions of I.E on windows it does work.     - Server stalls ? Other machines connecting to the server are unaffected, but anything from the machine that tried to access the page with the offending code just sits there (without any errors). Initially, the only thing I could do to un-stall it was reboot the server, but now I''ve found that if I kill the dllhost.exe process owned by IWAM_Machine it fixes itself. IWAM_Machine and IUSR_Machine have read/write access to that folder.     - Some Messages (Not all) get stuck in my SMTP Queue I have a webserver sitting in my dmz and it hosts a couple of webservices in particular some online calenders. The calenders allow people to submit new events to add to the calender, and then when they are approved the submitter is sent an email notifying them that their event was approved. The webservice first sends out an email to a calender administrator within my department to say that they have a new message to approve. Ok, here is the problem. The emails that should go to the submitter (outside our domain) go out just fine, but emails that should go to our administrators (inside the domain) get stuck in the queue. For example: joebob@yahoo.com posts a new event to the calender. The administrator of the calender is bill@winnebagoschools.org. Bill's email get stuck in the queue, but joebob's email gets sent correctly. Here is what I have done thus far: - I have tried creating a remote domain that points to the IP address of my internal network's mail server. - I have under the delivery tab and advance options put the IP address of my internal network's mail server. - I have tried putting a email directly in the pickup folder.     - Multiple sites with Win XP Pro I know IIS 5.1 snap-in with Windows XP Pro does not have a way to add more than one web site with host headers or anything, but is there a way to do it without the snap-in interface? Perhaps edit a configuration file manually? Can I somehow install IIS 5.0 for Windows 2000 to work around it?     - SSL on multi-homed server - 2 questions I have SSL on my server that is multihomed. I have 3 sites, mydomain1 (www.mydomain1.com), mydomain2 (www.mydomain2.com), mydomain3 (www.mydomain3.com). SSL is setup for www.mydomain1.com. I have seen a post here where someone wrote that SSL doesn't work on multihomed servers, ie using host headers. My first question is: Does SSL NOT work at all, ie nothing is encrypted even though it says so, or is it just that there are issues, like if I go to www.mydomain2.com, I get a warning that the cert is not for the domain..., but www.mydomain1.com is still secure? My other question is assuming that https://www.mydomain1.com is secure. I setup IIS 5 to require SSL, and setup a custom error for 403.4 to redirect to https://www.mydomain1.com if the user goes to http://www.mydomain1.com. This seems to work. For site mydomain1, I have multiple host headers: www.mydomain1.com, mydomain1.com, mydomain1.net and www.mydomain1.net. If a user goes to specifically to https://www.mydomain1.com, it is fine, but if they go to https://www.mydomain1.net , or any of the others, the user gets a security warning that again, the domain is not the same as the cert.     - Service.lck I am having a problem with both IIS 4 and IIS 5 on two separate boxes. IIS 4.0 --> When trying to access a web through IE I receive an error 500 -- Internal Server Error. When I check the Event Viewer the message reads: "Cannon open file "service.lck" for reading." IIS 5.0 --> When creating a subweb and adding permissions to that subweb I receive an error message: The server extensions were unable to access the file "servive.lck".     - Windows XP + IIS 5.1 - ASP pages does not work anymore Hi Context: Machine : Windows XP IIS : 5.1 Service pack 1a + all of the winxp updates HTML pages works file. Asp pages gives an Internal Server Error, as if the page was not there. Everything is correct... urls, pages names, etc. Tryied to unsinstall and reinstall many times. Tryied to follow some of the workaround I found on msdn site but no luck. Here are the error messages I get from EventLog. 2 from Sytem and 3 from Application. From the log files, specially the message on the 3rd log on application seems to be a bug of some sort. Can this be an error caused by a recent automatic update? Help is welcome.     - Cannot login to FTP site in isolation mode I am trying to connect to a FTP site configured to use Active Directory isolation.     - iis and JRun and partition We have a new windows 2003 standard server. Partition is C:12GB D: 126GB E:126 Gb At first I installed Jrun on C, for I think JRun will connect with IIS which is on C. Now we have 7 GB in C. I wonder if I should have installed Jrun on D: instead of C: which is mainly for operating system files.     - IIS Not Dropping Sessions We are running IIS 5.0 sp2 on Windows 2000. Everytime a user logons into the application (session is created) we insert into the database a record with a date time stamp. Through the night (midnight to 7 am) our database shows 5 or 6 people logged on, but IIS shows 90 to 100 current users at 7 am. We use the application("users") syntax to return the current users.     - SMTP limits attachment size I have a 'classic' ASP application on IIS5 that uses CDOSYS through the local SMTP server to send emails. It works fine until I include an attachment that is greater than 90k. The SMTP server uses an Exchange server as it's smarthost. There are no message size limits defined on SMTP or Exchange and it works fine for small attachments. I don't even get an error message from the CDO code, the email just never arrives. Anyone help?     - can you make Windows XP, 98 and IIS 5 work together? hi, has someone ever used this kind of home networking set up? I use a 500 year-old Windows 98 machine mainly as a primary storage space while I use newer Windows XP Pro machine to study ASP.NET. On this latter machine I run IIS 5.1 and ASP.NET 1.1. I tried to point the default website of IIS to a folder in the Win98 machine but I always come up with the following message : Server cannot access application directory '\\minime\workfolder\'. The directory does not exist or is not accessible because of security settings. The folder definitely exists so I am thinking it is a security issue. So I tried to map the UNC to a drive letter but IIS wont let me select this particular drive (nor any of the folders in it) as a directory for the website? I tried looking for ideas in the knowledgebases but found none. I solved my dandruff problem by prodigous amounts of hairpulling but it never solved this specific problem. So the position is following: Windows 2000AS+IIS+Service Pack 4 When I first begin work with this server, there was SP2 only, and lots of messages in Application Log, from KAspersky AntiVirus PlugIn "IIS-Worm.CodeRed.c detected from host: 217.21.77.145. But this record in App Lof repeats constantly, and when I check memory - Dr. Web finds that inetinfo is infected! But how can it be??? System is clean, SP4 is installed (which should prevent from CodeRed), but CodeRed constantly infects my server? I've read http://www.viruslist.com/eng/viruslist.html?id=4226 and manually check all. No strange records in registry, no virtual hosts, EVERYTHING IS CLEAN! What can I do to prevent PC from this f....ng attack? Can anyone help me, here on microsoft site?     - 501 error in IIS 5.0 Recently, one of the Virtual Directory in our IIS 5.0 server generate 501 error. We change nothing to the ASP and Virtual Directory.     - Vistors can't see web sites Hi, I am running several low traffic web sites on my Win 2k server machine using IIS 5. These sites have been up and running for over a year without much of a problem. Sometime in the last couple of weeks all of the web sites stopped responding to some visitors. I can see one entry for them in the logs, but they never get anything on their end. On my local network and from work, all my web sites work fine. I had another friend try it from his home and they worked fine. But when he tried it from work, they didn't work. There are no errors in the Event viewer.     - asp code not working.... This page is an asp page that displays a dynamic list. It is xhtml compliant and was made in dreamweaver mx. I have pasted the full page below, basically it collects 2 sets of data from a sql server using stored procs on the sql server. These pages work fine locally and I have just uploaded to another host and again they worked fine, the only difference I can find betweeen the hosts that work and the one that doesn't is that the one that is not working does not have the .net framework installed, but as this is an asp page I am confused as to why that would effect the page and give an xml error!!!!     - Peculiar IIS 5 Access Behavior I have a strange situation that I seem to have exhausted my research resources without a resolution. The IIS access had been working fine until (I believe) I applied the latest recommended MS update. Now I can only access my site using the intranet IP address, whereas I used to be able to access it by the WAN address and intranet address. When using the WAN address I get a page not found message (no reference in the message to IIS). What makes it even more baffling is that when I try to access the site with the WAN address while connected to my company's citrix server it will connect. I thought that it may be due to the citrix connection being initiated from the local (home) environmet, but this theory was disproved as I can make the connection from the citrix connection from the home environment, at work, and from client sites.     - Can't install IIS on XP Pro machine I am trying to install IIS on an XP Pro machine, but keep getting a dialog asking for the XP Pro SP1 CD-ROM.     - port forwarding...help please hi i have a host (sharing internet ect)computer running xp home, and being home does not come with iis. however, one computer on the network has xp pro and so has iis with it. i have setup my iis, but i want it so when ip on the host computer is accessed, it is forwarded to my iis files. i can access all the files on the server from the computer with the server on it by going to localhost...but im not sure on how to setup the port forwarding on the host computer to get it going to the server....i thought i had it at one point, but it asked me for a password, but i dont have any security setup on it while i am getting it running? any help would be greatly recieved. thanks.     - IIS 5.0 errors I keep seeing the following error in the system log on our W2K/IIS 5 webserver. There are often numerous entries in a 20 minute period. This happens on a daily basis, many times a day. The error was 'The specified metadata was not found.'. As well - and I don't know if this is related or not - once a week, the iis service will stop...although it shows as running in services and in iis manager. I restart IIS and it says it cannot stop the w3svc and I have to reboot to get it to restart. Prior to the restart, it will ask me to save a .msc file. We have IIS5Recycle running on it, and it helped for the bad asp code uploaded by one of our web developers and caused a similar problem with our IIS crapping out, but does not seem to help for this particular problem. We often get Cidaemon errors and messages stating "the instruction at "0x77fc9789" referenced memory at "0xfffffff8". The memory will not be read" but this seems to occur near the end of the backup session and again, I don't know if any of these errors are related. I have it patched and up to date with service packs - except for SP4 which has had disastrous results on our test servers running IIS, so please do not suggest that I install it, because I won't...not yet, at least. As well, we have checked for Code Red and Nimda, as suggested by Microsoft support personnel. We found nothing.     - FTP issues in IIS5 I set up a server with several web sites. Each website has it's own FTP site. When I set them up initially all the FTP sites worked. All new FTP sites I try to add cannot be added and all existing FTP sites still work but the properties cannot be changed. Most of the fields are greyed out. The server is still functioning just fine, it's almost like a policy is not allowing me to create new FTP sites or alter old ones. I have several servers running and have never had this problem before. When I go to the properties of the FTP service, it says path cannot be found.     - IIS Service Stops Responding Every so often my IIS service on my windows 2000 server just stops responding and accepting any web requests. If I try to manually stop the service and restart it the service just hangs in the stopping process and I can not to anythign with the service after that. I've already deleted the folder once and it is still hanging around, and now telling me I do not have access when I try to delete via explorer.     - Trying to setup a FTP site in IIS 5 Hello, I'm trying to create an FTP site in IIS 5 and I'm having some problems. This is what I've done so far. I've changed the FTP Site properties to NOT allow anonymous connections. I created a user and added that user to the FTP Site Operators. I then changed my home directory to the one I want. I checked read, write, and log visits. I then went to the folder that I specified in the "Local Path" and added the user I created for security.     - Trouble Importing certificate on second node of cluster Hi, I'm having big trouble getting a certificate running on the second node of our web cluster. I made the request and installed the certificate on the first server with no problems what so ever. It's works perfectly. I wanted to install the cert now on the second node as well, but I'm having problems. When I use the certificate mmc, and I can say to import the cert, all looks fine until the very end when I get the error "An internal error occurred. The private key that you are importing might require a cryptographic service provider that is not installed on your system". Also, if I try to generate a new request on this system, it fails with "Internal Error". Both systems are identical (Win2000 SP3) and were installed at the same time and have the same updates..... I've found one MS KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315355) but this refers to a registry key which doesn't even exist on ANY server that I have looked out. When I try to access a static page, I see it perfectly, however, when I try to access any dynamic pages (aspx, asmx...), I get a CS0016, compilation error. Has anyone had any problems updating the dotnet framework to 1.1 on a
Windows 2000 machine?

When I try to update it from the Windows Update page, it will get right up
to 100% and then freeze.

If I just download the file, and install from there, it gets halfway and
stops. When it does this is says, "Stopping services. Service: iisadmin."

What does this mean? Is there a way that I can fix this?

Try typing (in a cmd.exe prompt before installation):
net stop iisadmin
And try the install.
