    - .htm page spouts false Read Only message Hey there, Migrated an IIS 5 on Windows 2000 site to IIS 6 on 2003 Web Edition server. Everything is working great, EXCEPT: Have a UNC share mapped to a share inside the intranet which is part of the main site, not a separate site. They simply (used to) open the share, and using their Modify NTFS permissions on the .htm file, save a word doc AS a web page and updated the page. Now after the migration, I had to reinstate their NTFS permissions. Did it, on the share, on the file. When they go to 'save as' the doc as a web page and replace the existing .htm page, Word XP spouts a 'This file is Read Only' message and rejects the save. Does the user now need access permissions in IIS 6 to the subdirectory in order to change the web page? Didn't used to in IIS 5.0, 2000. The file is NOT read only. Definitely not. They have all the NTFS they should need to save over the file. I can only think that with the increased security in 6 and 2003, that now they need access as an Author to change the page, or some other kind of access that wasn't needed with the past OS and IIS 5.     - Change default URL from http://"computername" to http://FQDN I have IIS 5.0 running on Windows 2000 Server but I noticed when I use the web based FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 Site Administration it shows "Site Administration for "http://web" where web is the name of the PC and the URL at the top of the browser shows http://web/_vti_bin/... Where do I change the default URL to be my full qualified domain? The default web page seems to be working. If I type http://"mydomain.com" it brings up my default page that's on the server but if I enter http://"mydomain.com":2099 I get redirected to http://web:2099 I checked all the tabs in the IIS management console on the server but didn't find a place where I could enter a default URL for the server rather that it using the computer name. I'm trying to create a subweb called unite but in the web based administration page after I clicked on my website and created the subweb it is showing it's URL as http://web/unite instead of it's FQDN. When I uploaded a website using FrontPage and made a few changes I tried to use the Recalculate the Web feature under Server Health in the web based administration page it changed some of my links to http://web/unite/... from the FQDN version I had used.     - IIS and redirect I am trying to re-direct the default URL without using scripting. Basically after having tried several other methods I have put a .htm file in the root of a site and have set this as the default document. Then I set the file to re-direct to another url, and ensure that the client is sent to the exact URL. The problem occurs when I doo the following: http://foo.bar.com/ (default.htm) redirect to https://foo.bar.com/exchange/ I have done a netmon trace and what IIS seems to do is respond back with http://foo.bar.com/exchange/ - my only thought is that IIS thinks that as it is the same URL it can be lazy...     - IIS 5.0 Install Path Hello all, I am trying to use the IIS migration tool from the resource kit to import IIS websites from NT 4.0 to Win2k (IIS5.0). every time I attempt a test import it creates a complete path from the source machine to the target machine. One reason maybe because the source path is E:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ISWEB. I tried to create this structure and it still migrates to c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\<source server name>\inetpub\wwwroot\ISWEB. I want to try and change the default installation path of IIS on the Win2k machine to match the source and that may help. But since I am adding IIS as a windows component, i do not receive an option to change the installation path. Any ideas on how to modify the path? Do i have to do it post install?     - Redirect Issue I have one windows 2003 server called WEBSERVER with a public IP and one Windows 2000 Server on my network. The problem is that Crystal Enterprise 8 does not support Windows 2003 Server. The Crystal Enterprise instal on the 2000 box works fine with IIS in-hosue. Is there a way to redirect users from the home page hosted on my 2003 WEBSERVER and make them use the other 2000 server? Is this possible with only one public IP? Help appreciated.     - IIS 6.0 problems We've recently started porting our web service application to IIS 6.0. To minimize the behavior changes, we've put it into its own application pool, which never creates replicates. Also, since the application maintains intenral state, we don't want the pool process recycled, so we've turned off automatic recylcing and pinging for this pool. At low load levels, it all works fine. But when we raise the load, before too long these things happen: 1. The application stops responding. Further request to comminucate with it hang. 2. The CPU utilization on the machine goes to 0. 3. The following appears in the application log: Source: W3SVC-WP Category: None Type: Warning Event ID: 2262 ISAPI 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll' reported itself as unhealthy for the following reason: 'Deadlock detected'. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. There is no description of this error at that location. I don't think there's any actual deadlock, since the same application works fine in IIS 5.0. (All this version of it does is route messages between web services on different machines.) Rather, I suspect that at high load, latency or request queue sizes get large enough that ASP.NET considers the application to be broken. A few questions, then: 1. What parameters is ASP.NET using to decide that the application is unhealthy? In IIS 5.0, I'd look into things like responseRestartDeadlockInterval and responseDeadlockInterval, but the IIS machine.config says: When ASP.NET is running under IIS 6 in native mode, the IIS 6 process model is used and settings in this section are ignored. Please use the IIS administrative UI to configure things like process identity and cycling for the IIS worker process for the desired application I can't find anything in the IIS administrative UI that seems related, though. 2. The behavior seems odd to me. In IIS 5.0, when the worker process seemed unhealthy, ASP.NET killed it and started a new one. Why, in this case, is the process left in an idle state, and why do requests to it hang instead of failing? Any insights greatly appreciated.     - FPSE and Forms on IIS6 Greetings all, Yet another form issue. I have a server running MS Server 2003/IIS6/FPSE2002. I have verified that FPSE is installed and configured. At least I think it is configured as I have set an SMTP host and enabled authoring. Whenever I submit a form I get the error: "Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page http://website/form.htm". The form is posting the results only to an email address. I have tried modifying the form to post the results only to a txt file but got the same result. I am at my wits end with this one.     - SMTP loses connection to LDAP server Hi all, I'm using the Window 2000 SMTP service as a gateway for our email. Users on the field use this server as Outgoing SMTP server. This server only relay if the user is authenticated against active directory. So, users on the field can only send out email after they are authenticated. In the LDAP Routing tab, I specified the our DC as the LDAP server, and using Active Directory as the Schema. Everyday, this server loses the connection to the LDAP server with the error, "SMTP was unable to the LDAP server" in the event viewer. When this happens, the server stops authenticating users. No one can send out email. I have to reboot the server for it to start authenticate again. Does anyone know the reason why SMTP loses connection to Active Directory every day?     - Pb with IIS 6 on SBS 2003 Hi, I use SBS2003 Premium Edition (ISA+SQLServer). The default web site is running and is listening on all unassigned IP adresses. If I change the IP of my ethernet card directly by the "network connections", my web site is always accessible. Now if I use the "Email and Internet Connection Wizard" to change my LAN/WAN settings my default web site is no more accessible ! I tried to stop/start IIS without success.     - Index Server/Search question We have a site that is written using IIS 5.0 FrontPage 2000. The search page uses the webbot that comes with FrontPage. When we try to search for text we receive the message "The page cannot be found". Looking at the URL I noticed that the page is looking for the SEARCH.htm0.idq file. I checked the _vti_script folder and this file exists in this folder. I've tried reindexing the site. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks.     - SMTP Virtual Server on IIS5 I have a machine on domain machineName.aaa.bbb.uk Without setting up remote domain, if I copy a text file with "From:", "To:" "Subject", etc. fields iin it to c:\inetpub\mailroot\pickup, then regardless of whether the mail has a To field in domain @aaa.bbb.uk or @xxx.yyy.zzz.uk, the mail just ends up inn the C:\inetpub\mailroot\drop directory. NLB configuration for 80 an 443 is Multiple host - Affinity Single - Load weight Equal. I don't understand why all client connection go to Server1 and not switch between Server1 and Server2. Users always seem to be redirected to the machine name rather than the DNS name that they connected with.     - Problem with script - Dynamic DNS program I wrote an ASP page to perform the same purpose as the dynamic dns services that are on the web. I want to use my dns servers with some of my remote sites - that's why I am doing this. (Some routers, like the D-Link, support dynamic DNS updates via http) The script is done and I tested it by manually submitting it. It works perfectly. I can update my DNS entries via http requests. The problem popped up when I went to put it in production. The routers send a GET request to www.MYDOMAIN.com\nic\update?myip=xx.xx.xx&myhost=myhost.mydomain.com The router is expecting a "200 OK" back, which is fine. Problem is, IIS is returning a 302. The reason is, the path \nic\update resolves to my ASP page which is \nic\update\default.asp. The default page. Since the D-Link router asks for \nic\update (which I have no control over), IIS returns a 302 (page moved) and then delivers the page (default.asp). Well, the router doesn't like that and treats it like an error. So nothing works. There is nothing wrong with the script, its just that return code from IIS. Is there ANYTHING I can do to force IIS to return 200 OK and the default.asp page? I was so close and now no cupcakes. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this. P.S.     - Problem in starting IISAdmin when the ISAPI Filter is instrumented with Memory Leak detecting tool Hello All, I am finding problem in starting W3SVC/IIS Admin service when I instrument any memory leak detecting tool( bounds checker, insure++ , Rational purify) with ISAPI Filter applicaton. Actually the steps to follow for setting is all same as mentioned in MSDN To debug an ISAPI extension using a debugging tool that cannot attach to a running process. I have copied and pasted the steps for the reference. In the Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, double-click Component Services. 1.. In the Component Services window, click Services. 2.. In the list of local services, right-click IIS Admin and click Properties. 3.. In the Log On tab, click the Local System account button, and select the Allow service to interact with desktop check box and click OK. 4.. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all processes that run under the IIS Admin process, for example the World Wide Web Publishing Service and the FTP Publishing Service. 5.. Open the Registry Editor. This can be done with the following command: start regedit6.. In the Registry Editor, browse to the to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/Image File Execution Options key. Right-click that key, click New, and click Key. Type the name Inetinfo.exe as the new key name. 7.. Right-click the Inetinfo.exe key, click New, and click String Value. Type Debugger as the new string value name. Click Debugger to edit the string value. Type in the full path to the debugger that you want to use, for example, C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows\cdb.exe. 8.. When the World Wide Web Publishing Service is started, your debugger will also be launched. You can now set appropriate breakpoints in your ISAPI extension.You will not be able to set breakpoints in a component's source code until the extension has been loaded into memory. For ISAPI extensions, you will need to start Internet Explorer and request the ISAPI URL. As soon as the page is loaded, you should be able to set breakpoints in your component. Refresh the page to trigger the breakpoints you selected. If the extension or filter cannot be loaded even once, for instance, if the fault occurs in component startup code, you will need to load the ISAPI DLL prior to starting the debugging session. Just after setting the Image File Execution key , I am not able to startW3SVC. Error that comes is as follows: Could not start the World Wide Web Publishing service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. This gets solved immediately after removing the key under Image File Execution. IIS Admin service gets started with no hiccups.     - iiscrash/hang agent I am trying to use the IIS crash/hang agent but I have a few problems/questions with it. 1. I noticed the default is to only log in the event of a crash, in my case it seems only to be asp pages accessing the database in a specific web site and virtual directory that are crashing not the whole iis. Would anything meaningful be logged in this case or would I have to enable the hang agent as well, if so any ideas on the request time limit to set 2. When I try to enable the hang agent the message in the event log saying the IISCrashHangAgent service has started still says that the crash agent only is enabled, the relevant section in the iischagent.ini file is below, am I doing anything wrong? I have tried a full reboot and waiting a while for the changes to take effect but still the same message in the event log. [HangAgent ;Enable= ;LogLocation=%SystemDrive%\iisdebugtools\log ;MaxLogFiles=1 ;WriteLog= ;RequestTimeLimit=6 ;ActionCommand=C:\IISDebugTools\iisdump.ex ;MaxActionsAllowed= 3. I noticed it seems to be a bit erratic, sometimes the IISCrashHangAgent service seems to stop for no apparent reason and restarting IIS does not seem to start it although a reboot seems to work. On Windows 2000 thi script is working fine but on Windows 2003 it's not working.     - Cannot restart IIS Hi all, I'm running IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Pro. I have been running it with little/no problems however recently I have found that I cannot restart IIS via the admin tool or utilizing iisreset /restart. When run from the admin tool the error "Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occurred." is displayed. The event log shows - The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code. For additional information specifics to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. If I then try run iisreset /restart from a command prompt, the response from iisreset is that the server was stopped and then restarted. Unfortunately no content is available from the server and the IIS Admin tool indicates that the server is still stopped. I've seen numerous posts here about similar problems, but none quite the same as what I am experiencing.     - IIS displays HTML, but not ASP Hi, I develop my ASP pages locally on IIS for testing. I do it on my home computer running XP professional. Everything was OK last time I worked on it, but now my pages will not display any type of ASP code. They will only display the HTML code which is outside of the ASP tags.     - Mail not being sent on IIS5 via SMTP System: Windows 2000 Server IIS version: 5 I keep getting the error "Virtual Server :The drop directory , for * could not be created." and I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the SMTP service for IIS and it is still doing it.     - IIS on Win 2003 Server I have a brand new DELL Factory installed with Win 2003 Server. ( PowerEdge 650, 2.4 1GB DDR, 2 Drives IDE) I have set the operating system up as an application server role and a file server role ( iis / xml / web services etc), I have loaded a copy of our project web site onto the machine and it all works, straight off ! It makes connections to a SQL server to pull searches from a simple form based enquiry. The problem it, it is a lot slower at returning pages (classic ASP) than the old server box ( Poweredge SC 500 900 mhz 512 SDRAM, 1 hard disk). Am I missing something? Also, using the web site actually on the server works really quick, it just seems that client computers get slow results? Any ideas? Any help will be gratfully received. The answer to this question probably lies somewhere in the realm of DNS configuration. I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. It's set up with Active Directory and should have functional DNS services, though I've done little more than the default DNS setup. I am not a networking guy by trade, so my knowledge of DNS is limited to the bare minimum that has been required to set up web services for my organization. The server itself is on a subdomain of an institutional network, say, mycomputer.myorganization.institution.edu. I've registered a domain name, say, whatever.com, and I want people who hit whatever.com to be routed to my server, where IIS will differentiate traffic between the whatever.com domain name I've purchased, versus traffic to mycomputer.myorganization.institution.edu. I want the user's url to read http://whatever.com/article.aspx?id=1, rather than http://mycomputer.myorganization.institution.edu/article.aspx?id=1. I believe I have set up host headers under IIS correctly. Unfortunately, things don't seem to be working. Either I don't have the DNS stuff configured correctly, or some aspect of our network setup is preventing my server from resolving stuff as it should, or I don't understand properly what information I need to be feeding to the registar's servers. I've registered a domain name. My understanding is that I should point the registrar to my server machine's IP number; I should be listed as the primary DNS server, correct? For one reason or another, the domain name registrar's config utility is reporting that it can't find my DNS. I don't know if this is problem with the DNS config on my machine or a result of the fact that I'm a subdomain of an institutional domain. Now, due to the setup we have here, users cannot hit the web application server above directly. There is a web server that sits inbetween (also IIS 6.0 running on 2003). So, the user hits the front web server, the request needs to be passed thru to the web application server and then the response streamed back thru the front web server.     - Please help! IIS requesting username and pass. Hi all, We are running Windows 2003 Web Edition. Just moved from Windows 2000 Server. We migrated our sites over to a new Win2003 system and certain sites now a requesting the visitor authenticate themselves when browsing certain directories. I do not know what I am missing here but my configuration is identical to what we had on Win2K. This should not be happening. Anyone face this before? What am I missing? I am using Windows XP Pro. I installed IIS once
already, but then removed it for personal preferences. I
am now making web pages to be viewed through my
Intranet. I now go to install IIS and it goes fine,
except near the end of the installation. It just sits
there and says "Installing Internet Information
Services." Why can I now not install IIS? Why is it now
stalling when I am installing IIS?

Any Help would be appreciated

Got it! I just took the defaults to the IIS
installation, which is everything except ftp assistance.
Maybe it was just a glitch in the install.
