    - Using Folder Names with extensions in IIS 6.0 Hi, I need to use Folder names that contain complete Web-Addresses (e.g. www.domain.com, etc.). IIS gives Error 404 for folder names ending with .com and .net. Folder ending with .org and .cn are fine. I have tried to register .com as a mime type, but no luck.     - IIS and depoly asp.net project I have hosted a windows form control(an assembly in .dll) developed by C# in IE. This control will be called by an aspx page in my asp.net project. Now I depoly my asp.net project in windows server 2003 which means run the project without VS2003. I have installed IIS 6.0, too. But the control does not work. do I need install .net Framwork SDK v1.1 to support the control? Another question, my control need .NET Framework Redistributable Package version 1.1, as far as I know, under windows server 2003, IIS 6.0 this package is already installed, is this right?     - IIS Admin Service won't start Would setup a virtual machine as "clone" of a productive machine for disaster recovery purposes. It's an Exchangeserver, integrated into the coorporate Active directory. - Have a full backup of the existing Exchangeserver - Have a seperate System State Backup of the Exchange Server - Created a Windows 2003 SP1 virtual machine - Successfully restored all data onto this virtual machine - Successfully restored the system state onto this virtual machine - Shutting down the physical, productive Exchangeserver - Started the virtual Exchange server, logged on locally, removed and re-integrated the machine into the domain. Could successfully start the virtual Exchangeserver. But IIS Admin Service (and then all dependent services) dont start. Getting Service Control Manager Error 7024 with the description that IIS admin service has terminated with server specific error 2148073483 (0x8009000B). Have googeled, but the only solution I found was to reinstall IIS or to retore the Metabase. This is not an option. Reinstalling IIS would break Exchange (replacing the Exchange SMTP service). Restore the Metabase doesn't work, since I'm unable to connect to the IIS Server from the IIS Admin MMC snap in. In meantime, the physical Exchangeserver is running again without problems. So to perform a new system state backup or to extract the metabase is not a problem. Any advice how to make the IIS Admin service on the virtual machine working? Thanks in advance for any help!     - IIS 6.0 not running ws shell scripts Hi all, I have to run one executable file dynamically. For that, i am using wscript shell. the following snippet shows the steps being followed: set Wsh=CreateObject("WScript.Shell") oEx=Wsh.Exec("c:\\https.exe") It is giving permission denied error when i am running it through .asp page. sometimes it throws 500 internal server error. the application server settings are - win 2003 server IIS 6.0 ( all CGAPI extensions are allowed in this) the same code snippet is working fine on IIS 5.0 I've tried many solutions including checking of the SAM password for anonymous access. please provide some pointers on this problem. regards, Piyush.     - IIS and false HTTP 404 We started moving the files for some websites we are hosting to a NAS. We configured IIS5 (Win2KAdv) to have the home directories point to a share. We target the NAS using its IP address to avoid all name resolution issues. So, the path looks like \\10.100.225.5\web\my_site\ We also use a valid user for the Connect As settings (we are able to browse the files from IIS so the user is not the issue). When we first configure the site, it all works and looks good. But after a while (few hours or days), random pages start returning a 404 error. This error goes away if we edit the file directly on the server. It looks like IIS "loses" the page and then caches the 404 error message? Any idea?     - IIS will not server .asp pages but will server .html pages I have installed IIS 5.1 on a Win XP Pro computer and for some reason it will not serve .asp pages.     - IIS hangs. I keep getting the following errors for my ASP-VB web application. These errors have started to come up when we migrated to Win2K server. The web-app was working fine in WinNT. Does "out of memory" errors refer to lack of memory on the server or is this an application issue? Below is just an example. The out of memory errors happen on any VB class not necessarily the one mentioned below.     - Multiple session on start event for same Session ID I have a sharepoint portal site. I have attached a four web parts in the site. All 4 refering to the same web application. On session on start a folder is created with the folder name same as the sessionID and on session on end the folder is remvoed. First time i run the sharepoint site. Four folders are created on the server. I keep the browser open. I recycle the application pool. all four folders are removed. I click the refresh on the browser. Two session on start event are fired with the same sessionID. IIS realises that and ends one session. Unfortunately the folder that i created was also removed and the application fails.     - IIS 5.1 and SSL not working correctly I'm trying to setup SSL on a machine running XP. I've got another computer here running 2003 w/ certification authority installed on it. When I go through the certificate request, authorization, installation procedure everything seems to be working correctly, but when I go to access the web site with https:// I get a the page cannot be displayed error in IE and a the connection was interrupted error in firefox. Checking my even log I have this in my system log: A fatal error occurred when attempting to access the SSL server credential private key.     - Memory Problem with II6 - Windows Server 2003 Server Spec: Windows Server 2003 SP 1 Dual 2.66 Ghz 2 GB Ram At random times the memory usage goes way up, sometimes past 2-3 gb. And of course the server becomes unresponsive through all services--http, ftp, email, etc. When I look at the Task Manager, I can see that the process that is using the memory is w3wp.exe for one specific site. On that site I have the Application Pool set to have 10 worker process, recycle every 5 minutes, use a maximum of 42 mb. What could cause it to go up so high? I have searched the Internet and found a lot of suggestions regarding the Registry database where Network Service should be granted access to several keys.     - why doesn't my webfolder map when using HTTPS People... someone must be able to tell me how to diagnose this. I have win2k3, sp1 with all updates, IIS. Virtual directory mapped for web folder use. The server has a store bought cert on it and it works perfectly, no error. I am using basic auth, not that it even gets that far.... here is what happens in different cases. In IE, browse to http://host.domain/webfolder asks for username and password, when I supply it, I can browse and download files from the folder. browse to https://host.domain/webfolder (yes note the s there) asks for username and password, when I supply it, I can browse and download files from the folder. In Windows Explorer tools->map drive q: http://host.domain/webfolder asks for username and password, when I supply it, the drive is mapped and I have full permissions on it as I should. then the problem scenario... obviously the one I want to use as it is secure: tools->map drive q: https://host.domain/webfolder error message: The network path https://host.domain/webfolder could not be found. I am now totally nonplused since last thursday, I have no further ideas on what to try, I am using XP SP2, and have made changes per MS to make sure that Basic Auth is permitted in the web client parameters, I have google to my eyes are ready to fall out and can't find anyone else who has had this problem. I just don't know what else I can try to do... I have totally opened up permissions, I have made it totally unsecure (this is on my internal network behind firewall that I am working on this obviously) to see if I can get any movement, any different messages etc etc... I have checked log files, but can see no evidence of the request even hitting the server, so I don't know if it's the client problem or the server problem. but the fact that it works in IE using https, and I have a valid cert that exactly matches my hostname... I really don't know where to turn next.... can anyone tell me where to look for any further error message or anything I can do to try and pin down where the problem is and how to fix it?     - Scripting Runtime: what rights/permissions required? I maintain a website under Server 2003 but test it on a WinXP Pro SP2 with IIS5.1. Everything runs OK. For backup I transfered the website also to my notebook (also with WinXP Pro SP2 and IIS5.1) It did not work. After some debugging I found the culprit. The intention is to read two counters from the text file counters.txt When stepping with the debugger through the source lines, the cursor disappears at the line that opens the text file (tf = fso.OpenTextFile(fnm,1); ) and the browser keeps waiting forever. Typically privilege problem, I thought. But in the IIS-MMC everything appears OK: - application "test" in designated directory "\test", integrated Windows authentication, etc In NTFS ACL: - Administrators/SYSTEM: Full Control - Users: Read&Exec/List/Read plus, for the file counters.txt, Write.     - Service Unavailable when viewing websites When viewing some websites on an IIS 6 server on Windows 2003 SP1 i get service unavailable - looking in system event viewer I see A process serving application pool 'domain.com' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '5092'. The process exit code was '0x80'. after five of these i see the following in the event viewer Application pool 'domain.com' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool. I know I can disable rapid fail protection to stop it crashing but I need to find out the real issue. I have each site in its own app pool, sites are created from the HELM hosting control panel. a new user is created for each app pool which it runs under. in IIS websites i see the site MS sharepoint administration, i dont know what this is or if im using it, My users for the app pools are members of IIS_WPG but not STS_WPG - which i dont think exists on the server I run regmon im not sure what im looking for i see access denied for some website users it reports : service w3wp.exe request createkey path HKU\.Default\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settigns Result Access Denied Other SERVERNAME\app pool user This seems to happen for the domains that cause errors - is it ok to give access to this registry key - how much access can i give?     - IIS Expire Vs ASP expire Which setting is the overriding authority? The IIS HTTP Headers, Enable Content Expiration or the Response.Expire is the asp file? I had a working site but recently the site is not working correctly due to the asp pages on the clients temperary files being set to expire in ten minutes in the future. There has not been a code change, since the time the site was working to when it has stopped working.     - Access denied when trying to connect to server with IIS snap-in I have added the IIS snap-in to my mmc console. I right click on it to connect to my webserver, but I get a message: Error connecting to <server name>: Access is denied. I can use the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in to administer domain accounts on the same machine remotely no problem I have tried several things to try and fix the problem: Tried connecting by IP address. Tried running the mmc under the domain admininstrator logon Tested to see if I can run the IIS snap in on the server with my own logon - no problem.     - IIS unexplained behaviour I developed a .Net app using VS on XP PRO & IIS, I then copied the application within VS2003 to the live directory and the application produces random errors and behaviour which cannot be duplicated on my machine? The application is vb.net & asp.net with ado connections to SQL 2005, when I debug the application it appears to function without issues but will not function for anybody else ?     - IIS 5.1 hangs when serving .aspx pages - .asp works fine after doing multiple install/de-install/re-install of SQL 2005 CTP now finally my IIS does't work with asp.net anymore.     - Custom Error - Wrong URL Format - Please enter an absolute URL wit I'm running IIS 6.0 on Server 2003 and I created a test site and was trying to create a custom error for 403.6 or 400, etc. that goes to a URL. My test site is "bb.com" for example and the custom error destination URL is "bb.com/test.html". Whenever I try to enter this, I get the error "Wrong URL Format - Please enter an absolute URL within site". I've tried just about everything * http://bb.com/test.html * test.html * bb.com/test.html My goal was more complicated but since that didn't work I've tried to simplify the test to just 1 web site (no special configuration) and 1 file in the root called "test.html". The site doesn't do anything. I figured if IIS would just accept the specified URL then I would go back to solving my realworld problem. Any help would be appreciated.     - IIS Installation Problems Hi Folks, After having to re-install XP Pro on my machine, I am unable to add IIS to it it was on there before, I have tried several "fixes" from the MS site and been through the support for the Laptop manufacturer, and they although very helpfull have refered me to 2 work arounds for installation. The Laptop is a HP / Compaq reinstalled XP Pro using the recovery disks, and upgraded to SP2 using a MS upgrade disk.     - Out of Process Application- IIS Crashing Platform: Windows XP Professional SP2, IIS 5.1 (Newly built Dell GX 520, 512Mb RAM) All MS patches are up to date Process: 16 or so handheld scanners (HHP Dolphin 9551) connecting via IE to a virtual directory in IIS for SAP Webconsole to communicate to SAP servers Issues: IIS crashes repeatedly with the following event viewer messages- Event ID 7034- IIS Admin service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this x times. Event ID 7034- The World Wide Web Publishing service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this x times. Event ID 37- Out of process application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root/SAP' terminated unexpectedly. Steps taken thus far without success: Set IIS related services to restart automatically on failure and subsequent failures. IIS will restart several times before completely failing. A manual restart off IIS is necessary to regain functionality. Set up a schedule task to restart IIS services at Midnight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - HELP: Current Anonymous Users growing and IIS hang We are running IIS on Windows Server 2003 with an application using ASP and ASP.NET against an Access database. Almost once a day we are seeing a strange phenomena where the number of 'Current Anonymous Users' on the Performance Monitor suddenly starts to steadily climb until the server stop serving additional request and any attempt to get to our home page results with a 'Service Unavailable' message. Even simple HTML pages are not served so we guess it is eliminating any DB related issue.     - How to disable jet database drivers??? Hello, We run IIS 4.0 in our environment. Access databases are not allowed on some of the web servers (for stability purposes). Is there any way to disable the use of Access databases on the server? More specifically, can we somehow disable the drivers required to connect to an Access database? We still want to be able to connect to other databases (SQL & Oracle). We tried unregistering the msjet35/40.dll files without success. We were still able to connect to Access databases through our test (asp) pages. Please note that Access driver v4.00.6205 (odbcjt32.dll) is installed in the ODBC data source administrator. Attempt to unregister this driver produced the following error from Regsvr32.exe: " Odbcjt32.dll was loaded but the DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found. I'm no developer, and it's taken me a while to figure out why the new website doesn't function correctly - internal 500 error. The website runs ASP and interacts with a little Access MDB via Jet. This function fails under Windows 2003. Turns out, all the ASP files use the referrer "../db/access.mdb". IIS under 2003 has restricted this "../" as it was exploited by worms as the Directory Traversal exploit (which I was actually hit by back in 2001!) I don't want to have to go through every ASP file and find evey reference to "../" and replace them with full folder paths. Can I, instead, simply lift this "folder reversal" restriction on the IIS server (whether recommended or not).     - Web Page running slower in Win2003 IIS 6 than Win2000 IIS 5 We have a web application which run fine win 2000 IIS v5. But when we moved it to a new, faster server having windows 2003 and IIS 6, it ran slower than it used to. Any ideas why this is so? Some more background info is that we have a module which upload an xml file to the server then loads this file to display to the user. We upload first the file because after the user chooses what to to with the file, then since the file is already in the server, it is loaded up and parsed node per node according to the user and saved into the database. There isn't actually anything wrong when the file is being uploaded because it will really take some time. But there was a significant change during the time the xml was being parsed and saved to the database since the server upgrade. I can't tell if it is because of XML perser since our Win2000 and new Win2003 both uses XML v4 Sp2. I'm really stuck, can you please help. By the way, all of this are still in classic ASP. We already assigned and application pool for our web. Are there any settings in IIS that I should change? I am trying to experiment settings in IIS first rather than changing the code since it was working fine with the previous version (win2000). Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - Can't browse .htm file from MMC or IE Greetings I have come to my wits end trying to figure this out. So any assistance is appreciated. I have a Windows 2003 server with 2 web sites on it. The one I have problems with is the default web site that also is the front end for OWA Rather than have users browse to https://outlook.company.com/exchange I want to have them go to http://outlook.company.com/index.htm that provides information about the new site and a link to the secure site. My problem is this: I can enter https://outlook.company.com/exchange and all is well. When I try to browse to ANY file at http://outlook.company.com/ I get the Page cannot be displayed and a cannot find server error. I get this from the server itself on the MMC or IE. I tried creating a test.txt with the same results. I can use the Windows Explorer and bring up the files just fine. I created a new site with the test.txt and it works fine. The permissions (site/NTFS)look fine. Nothing special there. Restarting IIS, rebooting, and evil looks have not worked.
