    - Having problems with IIS I just tried to view a page that I had earlier on my own personal web site and was not able to view it. I then tried just plain old localhost and was again not be able to view anything. I then tried to stop and re-start IIS. When trying to restart IIS I received an error message reporting that it could not be restarted. Now when I view the sites that are set up via Internet Information Services I see a red error sign in front of Default Web Site. The default web site also says stopped.     - IIS 500 error on aspx pages after q822925.exe I've done the install and uninstall of 822925 a couple of times now, and have determined that a patched Windows XP Professional used for web application development throws a 500 error in IIS GET process.     - problem w uninstalling and reinstallin IIS 5 in W2K Server Hi, For some reason server did not work. I tried several configurations, but could not succeed. I decided to uninstall and reinstall IIS5 from Add/Remove Programs menu. While I uninstalled, computer crashed. NOw it looks IIS5 is not installed. I choose the components but it does not ask for CD for the needed files anymore. It just shuts that specific window and gets back to add/remove programs menu.     - iis hangs on startup + windows shared section memory allocation Hi, I have a server with 2 1.4 GHz processors and 2 GB of RAM running Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 (server name is THRUSH). I have installed Oracle Forms and Reports and I am trying to run 6 services out of this Oracle install. 2 for TEST, 2 for PROD, and 2 for TRAIN. I cannot get all 6 to run at the same time and I am not too sure why because I have the same environment set up on another server that has 1/2 the resources (this server name is WOLF). When I attempt to start the 6th service I get an error that the service could not start becuase it did not respond in a timely manner. However, I can get all 6 to run on THRUSH if I shutdown IIS but then it hangs on startup. Also I needed to increase the setting under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems\Windows. I had to change Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,512 to Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,1024. I cannot get the 3rd value any higher then 1024 on THRUSH otherwise IIS hangs on the re-boot. Errors I see are: The IIS Admin Service service hung on starting. The FTP Publishing Service service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. The Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. The World Wide Web Publishing Service service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. On the smaller server, WOLF, I can set this 3rd value to 2560 with no problem whatsoever. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.     - URGENT: IIS vs. webmatrix server Hi, I'm developing a web page application that runs 2 processeses. These two process create postcript files, the first one creates a map and the second one overlays data over that map. Apparently my application was working fine when I ran it with microsoft webmatrix server; however eventually I used IIS to run the application but only one process ran (The first) I'm using windows xp pro btw...     - What is the "Administration Web Site" for? Im running Windows 2000 Server. In the Internet Information Services Manager appears an "Administration Web Site" and I've been trying to figure out what this is for.     - iis not working when i installed IIS 5.0 on w2k, initially i got problem to start the default web site.when i tried to stsrt default web site i got a message box with message "address already in use". so, i tried by changing the port from 80 to 90.now when i right clicked on default web site and pressed start, it looks like iis started. but when i tried to test the services with http://localhost/localstart.asp, the page is not displaying and giving error "page can't be displaced". can anyone help me how to solve this.     - IIS 6.0 Slow on first hit ?? I dont know if anyone else experences this but. If no-one hits my site in a few hours the next attempt is very slow to respond. it delays about 6-10 seconds before it will display even static web pages. then it's ready to serve up pages fast. I seem to be having a little bit of problems with the ASP.Net services, it seems to run fine for a few days then it seems that the threads are not dropping and then the asp.net services just stop working. On our server there is not even any ASP.Net applications, just straight forward .ASP pages that do not run any of the .Net services.     - IIS Conections Hi i was wondering is there anyway of beeing able to tell who is uploading there web with iis ie whos connected at that time becase we have just had a 100 percent utilization on our processors for a bout 35 minutes now and the service that was causing that was inetinfo.exe which is an iis file we dont use the standard ftp service that is installed on windows iis5 thats diasbled we use a third party which tells you whos uploading it may well have been a frontpage user who cuased this problem but it could be qiet good if there was a command line utility to see who is actually uploading to there web Any Help Would Be Much Appreciated.     - Clustered IIS Instance stuck in "offline pending" mode After I set up the Default Web Site as a IIS Instance resource in cluster administrator, the resource stays in a offline pending state until it fails the group. I can stop it from failing, however the new resource sits in Offline mode and will not come online. I performed an IISSync and set up DTC as a resource prior to creating the instance.     - Frontpage server extention 2002 Hello, I installed Frontpage server extention 2002. I have IIS v 5.1. The problem I am having is I can not get to the admin page when I try IIS MMC//Default Website//(right click menu)Properties => Server Extention 2002 tab and then Settings). This directs me to Sharepoint admin page on the local machine and then asks for username/password. I have an admin account on the local machine (XP Professional) with no password. However even with the password after I added it, it does not take my username/password. How can I add myself as an admin and get to the admin pages to manage my site? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.     - IIS5.1 and XP Pro Hi I have got XP Pro running IIS 5.1, everything has run smoothly for 18 months, but now IIS has stopped working. It will not load and when you go through computer manager console it just hangs. Nothing on http://localhost/ will display, iisreset.exe seems to hang as well. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, but the unistall program just hangs. The system is has all current updates.     - IIS installed, but can't see IIS in the Computer Management Console Hello IIS experts, I want to install IIS on my machine(windows 2000 professional). First I installed it (6.0) through control panel by adding windows component. It went through OK. But when I try to configure IIS by looking at the list under "Services and Applications" in Computer Management Console, I can't find it. I tried uninstalling and re-installing IIS through control panel many times. It doesn't show up in computer management console always. Does anybody know what's wrong with it? Like I said above, this code works on the Windows 2000 Server machine, but I notice that after it gets executed, two shortcuts are automatically created on my C:\ drive. There's a shortcut icon for "Questionaire.xls" and one for the folder "Questionaires". Im not sure what's creating these shortcuts but I dont want this to happen. I suspect it's also an IIS problem. Anyone have any ideas?     - Serial Number Registration/Activation System? I am looking for a customizable product which runs on IIS and allows my organization to issue serial codes to end users. I am sure you have all used one of these systems before? Where you enter in a number or series of numbers and it returns a validation code you then enter in to product. Based on the code it will activate certain features in the product. We would need to be able to link it with our customer SQL server 2000 tables.     - IIS home directory configuration options not resetting After going live with our website, I disabled detailed ASP messages to protect our network. I have found a need to reset this setting and do some debugging on a page. The option shows it resets fine and keeps my change when I go back in but the error message is not detailed. Just getting the html error messages/pages saying Internal Server error. I set this option by right-clicking the website then Properties, Home Directory tab, Configuration... button, App Debugging tab. Running IIS on Windows 2000 server (5.00.2195) SP3. Have tried restarting the site, IIS Services and rebooting the machine. Still messages aren't detailed telling me what's wrong with the ASP. Any ideas out there?     - 503 Service Unavailable I just installed Windows Server 2003 ( new install over XP). I want to develop from this platform but VS.Net cannot create a new web project receiveing a 503 Service Unavailable error. Recorded in the application log is "The worker process failed to initialize the http.sys communication or the w3svc communication layer and therefore could not be started." and the DefaultAppPool is stopped.     - IIS/ASP not working - bad installation? I recently installed Windows XP Pro over XP Home, but didn't install IIS. I went back and installed IIS. I am getting to my "home page" in \inetpub\wwwroot, but it when I try to go to a .asp page, nothing happens. I get an error when I try to submit a form telling me I need a web server running and Front Page Extensions. I installed the Front Page 2000 extensions when I installed IIS (it was a sub-option). I also can't get data to show up when I connect a page to an Access DB. Is there something I'm missing in the installation? I have checked the IIS console and all the properties under everything.     - iis permissions netware mapped drives is it possible to point a virtual directory based on a mapped drive (using a netware client) on a netware server and set permissions. ?? In microsoft.public.inetserver.asp.general I described situation (running IIS ASP Tutorial example) that damages IIS irreversibly first showing "HTTP 403.9 - Access Forbidden: Too many users are connected to Internet Information Services" error. Neither restarting IIS nor rebooting PC does help.     - IIS6 & DCOM I am having a problem that i believe is a rights issue. We have several sites that use different methods of launching an Active X control that displays a SVG Graph. I am moving our site to a Win 2003 Web server and several of the methods we use are broke now. When a site uses strickly vbscript and asp to launch the control, everything works fine. When we use a dot net project we get an error "The server ***** did not register with DCOM within the required timeout". I have searched and not found a solution to this problem.     - Server Too Busy, but seems to be "Session to busy" Hi, I'm having a strange problem with IIS. Sometimes the server enters in a condition (I dont know why) that leads to many server too busy errors, even when the Asp Requests Queued are low. Sometimes I can reproduce one condition (when the server is strange) that results in this situation, when a Asp page with an asp error (missing one cast in one variable passed as parameter for a ActiveX component) and an "On Error Resume Next" statment causes 500.13 errors in the next pages called from the same browser. A new browser can get all pages from the same server without problems. If the "On Error Resume Next" statment exists in the page, it takes a long time to complete because of the error in the logic in the component. While waiting for the page, if you try to open another page you will receive the 500.13 error message. Commenting the "On Error Resume Next" in the page's code I get a "Internal Server Error" message, as expected. What is strange is the fact that this behavior occurs only with the browser that originally openned the page, so its more like "Session too busy" than "Server too busy".     - Web Counter Question Hi, I'm trying to find a way to monitor how many individual connections are being made to any one site on an IIS 5.0 web server. I found a KB saying to use the Current Connection on the Web Service object, and that does return data, but it seems like its recording each connection as a pool and not individually.     - Windows 2000 IIS Session restricted?! Session("UID") = 10 Session("Name") = "John Doe" I have an ASP application loaded on a Win2k SP3 server in Anonymous Authentication Mode. When I try to access the site, none of the session variables work. I have to lower the security to Low in Internet Explorer for the session variables to run. BUT if I run this same script on my local machine (WinXP Pro sp1) it works fine with whatever security level i have. Also, i have another ASP application loaded on the same server, but this one used Windows Authentication Mode. This one has no problems using sessions, I get no restrictions from that at all, the session variables run great! Neither app is setup as an Application within IIS, they are just sub folders. I tried creating an Application for the first issue, but no luck there. I know I can go to edit in directory security and there are three choices. Restict by ip, subnet or domain name.     - Multiple web sites vs one web site I am new to IIS and I have a question. Right now, we have a server with multiple websites for each application. They did this instead of having one web site with multiple application. The reasoning is that if they have separate web sites, they can shut down the web if something happens on the application. This way the other web site is not affected. I read that there is a way to do this without having different web sites. You can setup the application protection to isolated. But I believe there is a limit of 10 if you isolate the application. But there has to be a limit of separate web sites that you can create on one box. Need help.     - DLLHost.exe causes 100% CPU/Memory Consumption Hi all, I am facing a problem with DLLHost.exe. The process, consumes a lot of memory (sometimes around 200 MB) and because of that it leads to Server crash also. Whatever I have searched, I found that instead of running in Inetinfo, the web applications run under DLLHost, acting as a kind of surrogate parent process, and as such share an instance of DLLHost.exe. So is it natural for the DLLHost to consume so many of resources, as our site is a heavily used site, OR Is there any kind of possibility like Memory leak etc, which is causing this to happen.     - What is causing HTTP 411 for Windows 98 with IE 5.5 visitors? Hello, I have a site that just in the past few days started acting strangely.     - really quick question I have worked with computers for years now and I finally took the plunge and started my own web server with a domain name I purchased. I am using MS IIS 5.1 with xp pro to serve the web site. My question is where to begin with creating my own email server. I am confused about what I need. I searched EVERYWHERE for information and can find nothing basic enough. Using the SMTP feature in IIS is not enough to create a server, right? What exactly would you use to route the email around?     - asp or data access page in wwwroot? newbie question I understand that an asp page or a data acccess page has to be located under the wwwroot directory to be able to be viewed over the network, but does the access database they query have to be under wwwroot or can the database be located in a diff directory on the computer as long as the asp page or data access page is located under wwwroot? IIS has been running well for me for a long time. This
morning I opened up the snap-in to make some changes to a
new app and I got a message box with this:

Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name: Internet Information Services
CLSID: {A841B6C2-757-11D0-BB1F-00A0C922E79C}

I hit okay and in MMC I see this message:

The snap-in is not created, it may not be installed
properly.
Name: Internet Information Services

IIS is still running fine, but I am unable to administer
it through the snap in.

I am running XP Pro

I'm not sure when this started. I don't make changes very
often. I probably haven't been into the snap in for a
couple of weeks. I can't think of anything I have done
since then that is likely to cause any trouble. I have
installed a few Windows updates, I suppose.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't
help. I haven't been able to find any information on this
error on the internet. Any ideas/suggestions would be
appreciated.
