My web site is hosted on a 2k server (sp3), connecting through a dynamic DSL
line. No-IP.com software updates the master DNS every 30 minutes.

Every couple days, I have to go into the computer management snap-in, stop
and restart the web site (not IIS), so people can see the site. Any reason
why this would be? I haven't seen anything in the error logs about it, as
IIS is running. The only change from default is to move the site files to a
different partition for backup reasons.

Any suggestions? I did a quick search on the MSKB and in this forum, and
came up blank on this particular problem.

TIA, and have a great Thanksgiving!
Greg

I would first try upgrading to sp4

You might try posting the error that makes you think people can't see
the site. :)

Thanks, Jeff and anonymous!

The thing is, I don't see any problems showing up in the event logs (at
least that I recognize as coming from IIS). However, when someone tries to
get to my site, they get a 404 error. I stop and restart the site, and then
they can get it.

I haven't installed sp4 because I heard a lot of horror stories regarding
that service pack. Given past history with M$FT's service packs (going back
to NT 3.5), I'd rather wait a bit.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow the no-ip dynamic DNS service
is screwing up external DNS. I've gone to DNSReports.com, and they've given
me a pretty clean bill of health. I get the same problem from the internal
LAN and the .local DNS cache, though.

I'm planning to install the new SBS2k3 on a machine. Any comments regarding
it?

Greg,

If your server is crashing or hanging you might want to
download our ReJuvin8 tool. It's free for the first
15-days. It can keep your site running despite problems.

It's designed to detect problems then restart or reboot.
It can restart ANY programs, services, or processes in
precise order. It doesn't fix bugs but it does give you some
breathing room while you are finding them. ReJuvin8 also
gives you email and telephone alert messages and graphic
status reports.

It can also test, alert, and report on URLs running anywhere
on any server on your net connection. So if you use multiple
servers you can use them to watch each other, too.

ReJuvin8 has both an automatic and a custom mode. In the
auto mode you make all the settings by pointing and
clicking. This will handle most applications.

The custom mode uses heartbeat synch files to get absolute
detection that key processes are working. Tools and
instructions are provided to help you do this. We also offer
customization as a contract service.

Charles
