I followed all the rules and instructions and set as many permissions as
permissively as possible for all but still virtual directories added to the
ftp site don't show to a web user coming in anonymously. All the stuff in
the standard home directory shows normally. Is there some detail/trick I'm
missing? Help please.

That is by design - file listings contain only physical directories, not
virtual ones. If you want something to show up that can be used to indicate
the virtual directory's presence, you will need to create a physical
directory with the same name as the virtual directory.

Yes, but one of the help screens in this arena says(SBS2003):
"A virtual directory is a directory that is not contained within the home
directory. To a visitor of your site, it appears as though the virtual
directory is contained within the home directory"

The above is VERY misleading!

That physical directory must be under the ftproot tree I assume. The whole
reason I used the virtual directory was for a directory NOT under the
ftproot(home directory) tree. So what good would adding a directory in the
tree named the same as the virtual directory do?

If one did as you suggest(let's say vdir) and then from web entered
ftp.xzy.com/vdir then which one would you get?

Thanks for your response.
