    - IIS Exception Monitor We are migrating a website from IIS 5.0 to IIS 6.0. The website uses Crystal Reports V8.0 which is no longer supported. The site does not allow anonymous access - we use Windows authentication. For users with admin authority, the web site works fine. For non-admin users Crystal reports fails with: An external object raised an error. No Error Description available. I understand there was at one time a tool to monitor IIS for exception erros; however, I am having some difficulty locating it. Can anyone point me to the place to download this tool, or alternatively help me troubleshoot this error. Since it works for Admin level users and not for others, we assume it is a permissions issue.     - IIS6 File Upload Form I am running IIS 6 with 2002 front page extensions. I am trying to use front page with the file upload function. I cannot seem to get a file to upload. I change the permission on the folder for everyone to have access, as well as went into IIS Manager and gave read/write permissions? Is there anything I am missing? I really am stuck here.     - Strange page update behavior Hello I have a 2003 server as a webserver. When I update our pages (trough asp-based update system)there is 15min-2h delay before changes appear (browsed using ip-address with IE 6). If I browse using servers internet name, I can see changes immediatley after page is updated. And to make things eaven stranger when I noticed that something is wrong this used to be vice versa!! Switching happened after I asked (as a first aid) users in our organization to browse our website using ip-address as I noticed that changes were showed immediatley that way.     - IIS does not alphabetically order web sites?? How can I change the order that web sites are listed in Internet Service Manager (in the left-hand pane) on a box running Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.0? I thought they would arrange themselves alphabetically but it seems that only happens when the sites are viewed in the right-hand pane. Whenever I add a new web site it throws itself down at the bottom of the list even if it should go elsewhere alphabetically-speaking.     - Backing IIS 6.0 is a pain. Need help?? I have 1 server running W2kAdv Serv. Have IIS 6.0 on it and hosting 5 web sites. For other reasons, I need to do a complete format and reinstall of this server. I need to be able to backup my website and all required data and settings to a network drive, then reinstall the os and iis, then restore the websites and have everyting working perfectly. Problem is, when I back up my webs, they don't offer me a place to back the webs up to. I guess I need to know where all the backup files are placed on the drive so I can move them to the network drive while I reinstall, then move the files from the network drive back to the new installation and do a restore. I don't want to back up my entire os and restore the entire os. This will defeat my purpose of reinstalling windows. There has to be a way. Can anyone help?     - Mass confusion I wish I could get a simple answer to create and host 2 web sites on IIS 6.0 with 1 IP. everything i have tried does not work.     - IIS5 using Maestro NFS client to create virtual directory Hi need help on my problem, i'm using hummingbird to create virtual directory on my unix server to publich that directory into the web.     - When logging into an FTP site via IE the page needs to be refreshed ? We have an FTP link on our web page eg ftp://ftp.company.com/ Once a person clicks the link, IE displays a " page cannot be displayed " page. However if you click the refresh button or F5 , it then asks you for your Lon On As information. The login information should come up as soon as that link to the FTP site is clicked ? Changes in this version: 1) Added some heuristics to detect the IIS6/Jet problem. 2) Fixed a regression (i.e. a bug) that prevented some (but not all) Summaries to not print. 3) Added a heuristic to detect a hang caused by the Unhandled Exception Filter. This hang only occurs while the process in question was about to crash anyway, but can make identifying the root problem dicey.     - Error Connecting to Server: The data is invalid This morning when I try to open IIS 5.0 withWin2K I get an error message "Error connecting to server: The data is invalid. Do you wish to continue to attempt to connect in the future?" And when I do open IIS and try to connect I get the "The data is invalid" message. So, of course, my intranet web apps aren't working. Also this morning, I had a disk error on startup where Win2K did a scan of hard drives and it fixed something (before I could read it). And recently, I migrated my OS (clone) to another hard drive (but I think IIS worked after the cloning). In the Event log I found these errors: Source: IISInfoCtrs, Event ID 1003 Unable to query the IIS Info service performance data. The error code returned by the service is data DWORD 0. and the same message (event ID 1000) for FTPCtrs, W3SVC (event ID 1003) And later the Service Control Manager had errors "The XXX service hung on starting." for WWW, FTP, SMTP Does anyone know how to reconnect to my server with IIS?     - Setting up IIS I am a teacher trying to install an ICT training program on my own laptop which runs WinXP. I have been told that I need to set up Internet Information Server before I install the program. The program can be both installed on a server and on a stand alone machine (i.e. my own machine). I can't seem to find any obvious downloads from the Microsoft site. I understand that you can access IIS from the Windows installation CD?? Unfortunately I can't get hold of this as the machine I have belongs to a central educational body, which means I don't have any installation disks etc. Can anybody offer some help or advice. Microsoft expects (in InterDev and VS.NET) that any application I create will reside under the Default Web Site, that is: http://localhost/something, and doesn't let me create a different ROOT web site (which will be assigned a different port and will be at the same level as Default Web Site). The effect is that all across my application (web site) I won't be able to refer to the root of the site by just slash - "/". I must refer to something like "/something/default.aspx". On the other hand, when my site will be depolyed on a live server, it will be (I believe it should...) a root web site and not a subfolder that is simply conifgured as an application, so all my references to "/something/default.aspx" will be wrong - because in the server, the reference should be only "/default.aspx". Another view of the same problem: In classic ASP, I have an Includes folder in which I have a file called Template.asp which holds (how surprising) the top and down template and is referenced by all other ASPs in  directive. I also have an Images folder which holds all the images. The problem is that this template is included by many ASPs - some of them are in the root folder, some of them are in subfolders. So when I want to refer to some image, if I'll type "images/ball.gif" it will work only in ASPs which reside in the root folder - if they reside under a subfolder, the reference will be wrong. The ideal is to type "/images/ball.gif" - but a-ha! If I have to follow Microsoft's rules, this would be wrong, because the root according to Microsoft (Interdev/VS.NET) should be "http://something/"... What's the best to do?     - perl reading local files I have a simple login to for an administrator to change the message on a page every week or so. I need get my perl script to read the login file, and then write to the html page where the message is displayed. For some reason, no matter what the permission settings are on the files in IIS, perl is not allowed access to them. A friend told me I have to add the Internet Guest Account, and give it permissions to read and write to them in the operating system, but that is not available in windows XP with IIS5.     - FTP File Downloads - "Cannot find server" This is weird. I can connect to and browse my FTP server with no problem but whenever I try to download a file, I get a "Cannot find server - The page cannot be displayed" error. I can right-click the file and use the Copy To Folder... command and it will download but it won't using the Open command. If I use localhost instead of the domain name or external ip address, it opens the File Download dialog box like it should. If I put the file in the wwwroot and access it via http either internally or externally, the file open and downloads just fine. It's only the external FTP that is causing the problem.     - HELP!!! Hi, I got a problem when I tried to publish my web page through a dynamic ip service. I used iis 5 or 6 to expose one of my folder, saying MyWeb to the internet, and registered a dynamic ip, saying xxx.homedns.org. When I opened IE and put the web link as: http://xxx.homedns.org:80/MyWeb/hello.asp, the computer reported: 401 this web site is blocked by administrator. The more interesting is my friends could open the same link on their home computers, but I could not. It seemed the settings were correct for both router and iis. Because when I ping the xxx.homedns.org, it returned the correct ip address and my friends could get the page. I don't know how to fix this problem.     - IMS Errors First off thanks to anyone that responds. Installed Exchange Server 5.5 on a Windows 2000 Server machine. Have been running this configuration for about 2 years now. Formatted the machine and joined a Domain(server 2003 domain). Previously this machine was a standalone. Now when the machine boots Im getting load of errors. I cant open the error messages in the event veiwer. Went in services and it says cant connect to the this machine. Say connect and it goes into services. I notice that the Remote Procedure Call service is not started. If I start this back I can then open the errors in the event viewer. They are generally about the IMS. Any ideas what is wrong.     - Share located on another computer Folks, I have a virtual directory that is supposed to show a list of files. Under "When connecting to this resource, the content should come from", if I pick the option "a directory located on this computer" everything works cool. It asks for the password (I disabled the anonymous access), and then shows the list of files. However, if I pick "a share located on another computer", it gives me "The page cannot be found error". At the same time, the content of the share is displayed in IIS. What am I doing wrong? I have a Win2K server with IIS 5 on it. Thanks for your help in advance!     - IIS Not serving file with made up Extension? i.e. myfile.sfa We are working on a, er um, rather unique way to launch a local application and pass parameters to the app via a file. We have created an extension in Explorer and associated the Extension with our Application. When you double click the file on the local machine it opens the application just fine. If we create a link to a file that we placed on the local machine, we can also open the app from a browser. What we want to do is create the files on the server and then link to that file on the server. This does not seem to work. I can have three files that are all copies of the same file except for the extension. they are as follows: myfile1018.txt myfile1018.doc myfile1018.sfa When I enter the path to the file as a URL I can get IE to open the first two in Notepad and Word Respectively. Then when we enter the 3rd file, it says that the file/folder is not found and try again. What gives. If I rename the file to ..xls it opens Excel.. It doesn't even prompt me to save the file...     - Adding a new web site on IIS that contains WSS Hello. I have a Win2003 server with IIS 6 installed on it. We also have Windows Sharepoint Service installed that act as the main web site on the server. I have created a new web site that point to a specific directory on the server (Program File\MyNewWebSite). When I tried to start the new created site, IIS told me that it could'nt because there was already something running on port 80 so I change the port to point to 8080 and then I am able to start the site. The problem is that I can't access the site :( My main "program" is login.asp and it is set as the default, Run & Execute scripts are also enabled.     - still having ASP problems Ok i have an IIS on a 2003 server that is not show the asp pages but it shows html pages. I have searched the posts and tried what other peopld have suggested. So far i hav checked to see if ASP is allowed in the IIS manager - it is checked to see if the configuration includes asp in the home directory properties - it does uninstaled and reinstalled IIS created a new site any other ideas? this is the error i get "The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.     - IIS Stops Hello all, I'm running IIS6 under WinServer2003. IIS locks up, usually once a day, and the website is not available. If I do a restart from the management console and then specifically start my webpage, everything works fine until the next day when it fails again.     - iis 6.0 redirect A client is migrating from Sun Apache Webserver to IIS 6.0 Webserver. The files would be migrated over a period of time. They want to have both the sites up during migration.And the users to hit the IIS 6.0 site first. If a file is not found , the IIS 6.0 should redirect it to the apache server. Both the Webserver sites would have identical directory structure. Is there a way in IIS 6.0 where we can specify that if a file is not found in the current webserver redirect to the old url? Or is there a special file like apache redirect the pages using .htaccess file using commands like "Redirect /olddirectory/oldfile1.html http://yoursite.com/newdirectory/newfile1.html".     - DLLHOST.EXE Using 100% Processor I need some help. We are running a Win2K Server SP4 and all updates applied. On the server we are running an application called Live Publish. It is a document repository and publishing application. We have 10-12 different groups with sites on this server. For each site a DLLHOST.EXE process is started. About everyother day one of the DLLHOST.EXE processes will spin and take up 100% of the CPU leaving all other processes basically useless. I can occationally end the bad process and everything goes back to normal. Sometimes I have to kill the inetinfo.exe process and it will reset all DLLHOST.exe processes and the server will resume. I have installed on the server Norton Enterprise AntiVirus and it is updated 4 times a day on virus definitions. I have checked for any viruses and none are found.     - IIS Version Question Hi, I have recently updated my computer to XP Pro from Home Ed. so I can use IIS as a testing server for web design. I've also successfully installed IIS from the CD. Now I plan to download the latest security patch and noticed that there are different downloads for the different versions of IIS.     - IIS 6 and custom ISAPI Extension Hi, I have a DLL that contains an ISAPI Extension and an ISAPI Filter. It is well tested on IIS 5. I have started porting it to "Worker Process Isolation Mode" in IIS 6 and I have run into a problem that I can't seem to find any information about the cause... Basically, I have a script mapping setup for extension .abc to go to my ISAPI Extension. But every time I try to access any URL with that .abc extension I get a 404 response. Now, when I attach to the W3wp.exe process using Visual Studio .NET, I see absolutely no activity in my ISAPI Extension code...although, the ISAPI Filter code is used a working fine (they are both in the same source file/DLL). I've put a Sleep(30000) as the first line in the GetExtensionVersion() callback so that I can have enough time to attach to the W3wp.exe process and break right after the call to Sleep() so that I can debug.....But, the GetExtensionVersion() callback doesn't even get called...ever. Hi,

I'm interested in starting a small Windows 2003 shared hosting facility (a couple of hundred
sites).

I'm particularly very interested in automating the provisioning procedure.

Has anyone done something similar? What have you used? Anything I should watch out for/pitfalls
etc?

Any recommendations would be extemely welcome.
