Hi Steve,
this answer is in case, you use a router (you wrote "hub/switch/router").
You have to setup NAT on your router to foward request on port 80 to your
webserver.
So long as you don't configure NAT, your router(!) thinks that someone wants
IT to answer on port 80. Since the router isn't a webserver, the request
runs out of time, because the router doesn't respond to this request.
But even when you configure NAT and you try to access the webserver from
local network, it won't work, because the router will only foward requests
form outside (expect internal request on ports are also setup to be
forwarded). If your router can't be setup for internal port request
fowarding, you can only test it by accessing from a point outside your local
network.
