    - Can access my site locally but can't from other computer on my network Hi. I'm want to test my web service and everything is working fine when working locally. However, if I try to execute it from another workstation on my network, I receive the "Cannot display page" error. I created a simple html page just to see if I can access it, without success. By looking at my Virtual Directory security, it is set to Anonymous access with a IUSR_MY_COMPUTER account ... Is there anyone who have any idea about what's wrong in my configuration?     - Any way to make IISState useful? Is it possible to set up IISState in such a way that the ASP Source can be seen in the stack trace, so I am able to understand where in my code a problem is occuring? Without this it seems that it would be quite impossible to debug many issues. As an example, look at an IISState log file, below. This is what I got trying to track down a periodic access violation that we were having. Pat, apparently an MS employee, logically suggested that I should upgrade WSH. All he could see was vbscript.dll being mentioned. However, we discovered (through luck more than anything) that this issue was being caused by passing a vbNullString into the FormatCurrency function (try it. you'll get an access violation, too).     - Disabled HTTP PUT command since latest windows updates? Hello everybody, I'm comming from the microsoft.public.access.replication group, where we discussed a problem which it seems basicaly has something to do with the internals of iis. Problem description: We're using W2K Server with iis 5 and we were succesfully performing internet replication functionality of MS Access for a long time. Since the latest windows updates the replication functionality suddenly crashed and we were not able to bring it back to live (even uninstalling did not solve the problem). After futher investigation we found out that the replication is using the HTTP PUT command to upload the necessary files. We looked at the weblogs and examinied the http codes. Before the updates the PUT command always succided with HTTP code 200 (how it should always be). After the updates the same PUT command quit with error 502 which means "no server" or better " not implemented on this server". that leads to the conclusion that the latest updates shut down the PUT functionality via http and by the way messing up the access replication. We also used a testprogramm BIGPOST, which analyses replication problems, but BIGPOST told us the same, what we already found out "(PUT-)Method not supported" if we would work with iis 6 it would be no problem, because it offers the ability to setup rights for PUT, GET, POST and so on for http, but using iis 5 or 5.1 (like we do) you are totaly left alone. by this time we did not find any artikel or registry entrie, which let us enable the PUT command via http again. we also tried URLScan 2.5, but as a frontier before iis execution it is not usefull for this problem. openning PUT on http in URLScan passes URLScan, but again fails at final iis execution (502 again). And now our question: How to enable the PUT command via HTTP? Where can we set this (and other basic http command permissions) in iis 5? What happened during last updates? All file permissions (NTFS and in iis) were set properly for replication and many persons checked the permissions to be realy sure (also some above mentioned newsgroup members).     - IIS 6.0 Performance I've developed an ASP web site that uses SQLServer on Windows2003 Server I notice that sometimes responses are very slow. Pages are created in less than 1 or 2 seconds, but the client shows them after 10-15 seconds The problem occours, as I said, sometimes and not always on the same page.     - Using subroutines in asp and global.asa We would like to use certain functions in our web application and in global.asa. The problem is that in global.asa <script> and </script> has to be used, but in asp <% en %>. Is there a way around this problem? We do not like to have two copies of the exact same code.     - network bottleneck causing performance issues ? We have an ISAPI application which works over a leased line intranet environment. Periodically we see the server CPU usage rise dramatically causing the application response to degrade. We are trying to establish if this is being caused by any possible network problems either at the client or server endpoints. What would the ISAPI application do if, for some reason, it couldn't push the response pages out over the network, would it repeatedly attempt to generate and send the response or does it simply say well I've created the response and tried to send it, I cant but tough.     - iis produces black images I've got a strange problem.... A few months ago I made an application (exe) to make thumbnails from large images.. Everything worked fine until a few days ago.... Now the application produces black images (a black box) instead... I thought it was the application so I rebooted the server, but that didn't help... Then I tried if the application works on an other iis server... It worked! So my conclusion is something is wrong with IIS... The only thing that changed on that server is that we installed mcaffee groupshield 6 with sp1... but that was a few weeks ago... Has anybody got a clue? because I'm really stuck on this one!     - Cannot Install IIS on WIndows 2000 I am trying to install IIS in Windows 2000 on my Laptop so that I can use the .NET development environment. I don't plan to use my laptop as a server, but Visual C# .NET seems to require that I set up IIS before I can install C#. 2 Things are going wrong. I don't know if they are connected. Firstly, when I try to add the IIS component to Windows, the installation fails. It says "Setup could not copy one or more files. The specific error code is 0x5" I can't see this in the setup log, but it reports other errors. I attach the relevant bit of the setup log file below. The same error seems to be occurring twice - with files logscrpt.dll and asptxu.dll I am using Windows 2000 with service pack 4. Is there any way I can check if these files are corrupted, or get hold of correct versions of these files? Secondly - if I carry on with the IIS installation and complete it despite the error, I then cannot access the properties dialog box for directories on my disk drives. File properties works OK, but the directory properties box just doesn't appear. If I uninstall IIS, the properties boxes pop up again. Any suggestions? A SSL certificate from Thawte is installed properly and showing up in IIS and in fact I seem to be able to establish SSL connection with IE6 SP1.     - Content Redirection Hi All I have a images directory: www.website1.com/images/ The website is hosted in country A but the majority of users are in country B. My problem is image related. I want the users in country B to access the website in country A, but pull images from a server in country B. If I change the content location of the images directory on server A to redirect to a URL on another server (server B), will the client pull the content directly from the redirected URL (server B) or will the content be pulled to server A then delivered to the client.     - SSL connection not working... Hi, I configured IIS 6.0 to Require Secure Channel (SSL) and I assigned value 443 to the SSL port for the default web site. I also checked Ignore Client Certificates. The server has not been assigned a certificate (we care more about encryption of data than authenticity). When trying to connect to the server using https://servername, we get "The page cannot be display..." If I uncheck Require Secure Channel (SSL) and try http://servername, the site comes up fine.     - Default Regional Settings I'm having a bit of a headache with regional settings at the moment. I have a web application that connects to an oracle database for a search. However, the search is coming back wrong and I know it's related to the US Locale so I'm basically trying to make sure the Australia locale is being used.... My virtual directory is set to integrated security. I've also referred the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 306044 On the IIS server I've set the system regional setting (registry) to Locale = 00000C09 (Australia), I've also set the system default regional setting (Locale.nls) to Australia. I've then set the user profile I was testing the web app with the Locale English (Australia). I had to problems.. As specified by artical 306044, I decided to set the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\InetInfo\Parameters\SetVarConversionLocaleSetting = I assumed this meant it will grabbed that the system default from the Locale.nls file despite that the virtual directory was using integrated security. However, it didn't seem to do this...since I was still have problems NEXT, I then set the registry key (thinking that the 2 keys MUST be set for things to work - ie. one referred to the other): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OLEAUT\VarConversionLocaleSetting = It worked! However, now when I renamed this key and rebooted....things continued to work and now I can't reproduce the problem anymore...It all doesn't make sense. IIS 5 Compatibility Mode turned OFF I have seen many posts here and on other forums stating that Tomcat can only run with IIS6 if IIS is set to "IIS 5 Compatibility Mode". Any input would be appreciated. Some background: We built this web server to run an application called Blackboard (an online learning system) which is built on Tomcat and JSP. Tomcat 4.1 is installed as part of the application. We have Blackboard running on Win2k and IIS5, but have upgraded this staging web server to Win2K3/IIS6. Initially we could not get Blackboard to run under either IIS 5 mode or the default IIS 6 mode, I believe the WWW Service would not start up. However, after getting some help from Microsoft, we got the system up WITHOUT using IIS 5 Isolation Mode. I don't believe we did anything special other than the following: the Blackboard website is in an application pool which runs under the identity of a privileged account (the account is a local admin on the web server). This is a sort of archaic requirement of the Blackboard application (I won't go into the details). But could this be the trick that allows Tomcat to run with IIS6? I don't know whether the system is totally stable because it is our staging environment so it has not been thoroughly load tested. However, with a low load, it has not shown any major problems like Tomcat crashing or anything like that. If anyone has opinions or questions, please reply. What should I be wary of (other than security risks with running the website as a privileged account)? If the thing seems to be running OK, am I in the clear with Tomcat and IIS6?     - IIS and .dll file access problems I have a brand new server with a fresh install of W2k running IIS, I have created a virtual directory, have created the directory on the hard drive and given the IUSER full access to the folder, also the VD has R/W/Browse all that turned on. I can go to http://localhost/folder and view the contents, access the files, even download the files locally on the machine. But I have a .dll file in the folder that just brings up 'page cannot be displayed' as opposed to trying to download it. if I change the file name to .anything it will try to download it.     - IIS 6.0 and Crystal Report sever page 7.0 don't get along well with each other! I'm migrating several Crystal reports to the new IIS 6.0 /Win 2003 server. I added Crystal web report server 7.0 extension to it. Some simple Crystal reports are running ok, but many others aren't! Most encountered problem is "Creating Data Source failed" although I'm using the same SQLServer DSN for all CR reports. Other problems include not recognizing custom group name, etc. Is there any fix for this problem by Microsoft or Cystal Decisions? Note: The reason for staying with CR web report 7.0 because it's doesn't cost a lot for licenses as CR Enterprise 9 or 10. We don't really need managed reports anyway. Thanks a million.     - Backslash in "Default Domain" doesn't work I've configured IIS to authenticate users against all trusting domains by putting a backslash in the "Default Domain" field in the "Authentication Methods" form per the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx? scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q 168/9/08.asp&NoWebContent=1 , yet IIS is still only validating users against the local user groups on the server. When install was nearing completion it popped up with the message: "Internet Information Services is not installed on this computer.     - IIS & Password Problems I had a few problems with my Win 2K Adv Server that required me to run chkdsk and clean up a few problems. Once I got the server re-booted, all of the WEB sites on the server now prompt anonymous browsers for a username and password. I have checked to make sure anonymous access is allowed and stopped and restarted the sites. I even turned off anon, stopped and restarted the site, then re-enabled it and started and stopped the site. I've even restarted IIS all together, but still, when I go to the URL, I am prompted for a username and password. To test, I created a blank web site from scratch, put in the header, and tried to access it. I was prompted for a username and password. Any thoughts would be appreciated.     - XP Home and IIS??????? I have windows XP home edition installed on my PC. Thats what my dell PC came with. Will I be able to make this PC into a webserver without changing my operating system. I don't want to reinstall everything that is on there right now. I am doing this so that I can test the web pages I create rather than having to upload to another server.     - Default WebSite IP Address Problem I have a Windows 2003 Web Server. This server has multiple IP addresses bound to its NIC. Our default website runs an application that has to be addressed by the local host name, http://IP_Address does not work with this site. Heres the weird part. One of the websites on the box has the IP 10.20.30.35, registered in DNS as somewebsite.domain.com, the servers IP, which is registered in local DNS is 10.20.30.77. When I try to ping the server by name from the server it comes back as 10.20.30.35, instead of 10.20.30.77. It seems the machine does not even do a name lookup, but runs through its local adaptors bound IP addresses and picks the lowest value. On to the problem. As said previously, the default website can only be accessed by http://servername, problem is, when the site is accessed externally, it initially looks good, but after the first request the user is redirected to the 10.20.30.35 site, instead of the default web site at 10.20.30.77.     - IIS6 virtual dir to novell mapping Hello all, I am trying to get a virtual directory in IIS 6 to connect to a UNC path on a Novell 6.5 server. I enter the UNC path into the Network directory field and set the username and password under the Connect As.. button. Under the virtual directory I can see the directories and files on the novell server, but when I try to browse to the website I get a 500 error. In the web server logs I see that it is a 500.16 error which is described as '500.16 - UNC authorization credentials incorrect. This error code is specific to IIS 6.0.' according to MS' support site. The thing is I do not understand how it can be an authorization issue if I am able to navigate through the directory structure through the mmc but the web server is unable to see anything in the same directory structure. I had this working a few months ago in a test environment and I have tried everything that I did at that time. The change that made it work in the test environment was to change the LSP Network Security 'LAN Manager authentication level' value to 'Send NTLM response only'. Under Directory Security, for anon accesss I am using the same windows account that the application pool uses. The IIS Server is W2K3 standard, IIS has several virtual websites, both name based and IP based. Each website has its own application pool that is running as it's own user. All of the appropriate permissions are set and group memberships are in place. The novell server is netware 6.5 using native file access pack which allows the netware server to be mapped without novell client software via a CIFS connection. http://www.novell.com/products/nfa/ for more info. I have looked through the news groups quite a bit trying to find a similar situation using either novell or samba on unix, I assume getting either one of these to work would take similar steps.     - Intermittent http return code 400 to one client only One (and only one) client using our web site (IIS 6 running on Server 2003) is getting intermittent "http 400 - bad request" when navigating to various pages. There is no consistency to it. He can navigate back to a page he has already browsed to and get the error, or when browsing to a new page. He reports no problems with other sites. When he sees the error, he can open a fresh copy of IE and work for awhile, then he will start getting the error again. He is running Win2K with the latest version of IE. When I check my log, I can see his normal activity (return codes "sc-status" of 304, 200, and 302). Logically, I cannot see any 400 return codes.     - IIS Warm Up Period Hi, We have a website with a very high volume of traffic. The pages are ASP.NET. There are some configuration settings that get loaded by the Global.asx file on Application Start event. The load time for those settings is about 3 seconds. When the site is running on IIS5 everything is okay. When the site is running on IIS6 there are problems. It looks like when IIS starts and all the requests start coming in it is trying to compile the ASP.NET CLR and to load the settings in Global.asx. However, since there are over 100 requests/second, soon it starts to give Service Unavailable and log errors QueueFull in the HTTPERR file. If I manually stop the IIS, set the directory security of the website to accept only the local requests, execute one request, wait 5 seconds, and then change the security to accept all requests, it works great. Is there a way to give IIS a warm up time? I think it fails because there are so many requests that come right away before the CLR is compiled and the load settings in the Global.asx has time to execute.     - Service Settings I have noticed that IIS is being set to Manual and after a reboot it is stopped, of course. My concern is it's switching to manual on it's own, without any intervention of any user. This is happening on all of my Win2k machines, including the Advance Server machines, and my XP workstation. We have IIS installed and configured with multiple sites on a Windows 2003 Web Edition Server. Unfortunately we need an application on this which requires more than 10 windows connections to it so we will have to wipe and re-install with Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server (Web to Standard isn't a supported upgrade path so a re-install it will have to be).     - First ASP.Net Application Hello, I am trying to figure out how to add my first application to a Windows Server 2000 machine. I have developed the application using Visual Studio .Net and it does all of the work of creating the the application on my desktop version of IIS. I installed the .Net Framework on the IIS server applying version 1.0 and 1.1. I read a document on the web which indicates that I need to get to the command prompt and register with the following command: %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vxxxxxx\aspnet_regiis.exe -i followed by: regsvr32 %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vxxxxxx\aspnet_isapi.dll replacing the 'xxxxxxx' with the version of the framework that I am using. I am kind of surprised that I need to do this, so I just wanted to confirm. Now how to I add my application to IIS? I bring up the IIS Management console and right click on the default web site and add an Application or Virtual directory? Either way, I did not really see in the prompts how to set the Windows Authentication.     - IIS5.1: 404 error when ASP page is called Having previously had this working on my XP machine, I've come back after a month to find this error occuring now. In the meantime, I had installed PHP (v4.2.3) which could easily be a factor. The symptoms are that when I call an ASP page, I get a standard 404 error. session_OnStart generate the expected info. I also put logging into
Session_OnEnd, but I get no output. Not when I change global.asa and the
application (and thus all sessions) end. And also not when a session gets a
timeout.
What do I need to do, to get Session_onEnd called?
