    - Any tools or methods to monitor the speed between web and db server ? I want to know are there any free tools or simple methods that I can monitor the speed between my web server(IIS 5.0) and my db server(SQL Server 2000) in application level.(not network level) I mean how I know my ASP program is connecting to db to get the needed data in a resonable speed.     - asp not working on vanilla NT4 I have a vanilla NT4/SP6 setup (which means IIS3) - no matter what I do I can't get asp to work! Even a simple script <% response.write "hello" %> isn't working. Have set everything to execute enabled, still nothing. It's as if there is a switch or something preventing IIS from running. If you type the URL of the code above, it comes up with exactly the text of the asp code - <% response.write "hello" %> rather than hello For an IIS application, the asp that calls the dll comes up with error http/1.0 Not supported. when it is called.     - having IIS forward to an internal web server...possible? I am running my own gateway which is actually a webserver running IIS. Now behind this gateway I have an apache server, is it possible to forward to this webserver even though it has an internal (private) ip?     - Service unavailable error in Windows 2003 server I am running about 7 ASP.NET web application in Windows 2003 server. One particular web app experiences a strange problem of crashing the application pool consistently. I looked in to the event viewer and figured that the reason for crashing is Event Id 1002 - 'Application pool 'Crashing' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.' There are also warnings logged for the crashing of worker processes in this application pool and the event id for them is either 1009 or 1011. 1009 - A process serving application pool 'Crashing' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '2968'. The process exit code was '0x7f0ea553'. 1011 - A process serving application pool 'Crashing' suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process id was '2884'. The data field contains the error number. Note: The application pool has the settings to crash if there are 5 worker process failure in 5 minutes.     - Asp pages stop responding in IIS 6 We upgraded to IIS 6 and now one of our sites will intermittantly stop responding when accessing any asp pages. We can recycle or stop and restart the worker prcess pool and it comes up for a while then freezes again.     - localhost problem and virt directories When disconnected from the net, from IE I can't use //localhost/virDir/filename.htm. I CAN use //127.0.0.1/virDir/filename.htm, yet my host file shows that I have localhost correctly mapped to 127.0.0.1. Now, I can ping "localhost" with no problems indicated. I'm uisng IIS 5.1.     - IIS and tomcat, same port, different host Working with my admin, how can we setup tomcat and IIS on the same port, for example, port 80, on the same machine. We have different ips(same machine) setup and were wondering if we could assign tomcat one of those ips and have it run off that, of course they are the same localhost.     - Anonymous Sign-In pop up Hi, I was changin the IIS configiuration in order to fix some problem. I unchecked the anonymous access once. But it did not fix my problem. So I came back to check anonymous access again, and enter IUSR_machinename and the password of the administrator password. I iisrest and restart the server, but now everytime when I access the site, the Sign-In prompt will pop up. It will no more allow anonymous access.     - content & metabase backup I know I've already asked this but when I came to action what had been suggested the post had disappeared!! So here I am again. I want to backup the content and matebase of an IIS5.0 server so that I can restore to other hardware or server. i.e. the server get destroyed in a fire. I then want to be able to get the server backup and running at my DR site using a backup of the content and metabase. what is the best method? I seen lots of ways to backup the metabase but they seem to say that the backup can't be used on another server. To quote KB325889 "Backup files cannot be used to restore an IIS configuration on other computers that are running Windows 2000."     - ASP app not working in IIS 6 I have taken an .asp application from Win2K Professional personal web server to a deployment on a Win 2003 IIS 6 setup. The application is a simple .asp application. The application has a simple dynamic menu on one side (frame) and a destination page for the "main" page. The menu choice passes a value to the main page to display the data. The application worked fine in the 2K setup. The issue seems to be the passing of data between the .asp pages. I get the "HTTP 500 - Internal server error " message. I am pretty sure this is happening just when the variables are being passed. If I change the code and introduce some type of error in the (main) page I will get the error message and line number etc. The problem page is using an ADO connection but the (menu) page is succesfully using an ADO connection and logic to generate itself. I have followed the instructions for changing IE config for the "HTTP 500" errors and that has not helped. I have configured the file to allow the IIS 6 user to have full access to the app folder.     - Automation Error related to dll initialization Greetings We developed an ASP web app using Interdev that interfaces with mainframe db2 databases. When browsing the app from Win XP development machines running IIS, the following error occasionally appears "Automation error A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed." This only happens on XP development machines and the only way to get things going again is to restart IIS. All .dll's have been registered many times and work fine on Win 2000 Server development machines. Does XP have some setting that needs to be changed or ...? Any help will certainly be appreciated!     - Inetinfo.exe Hangs up I am currently running Windows 2000 Server and IIS 5. I am running multiple web site and also running Outlook web access 5.5. I am having sporadic lock ups on this system. At various times during the day I am unable to access my mailbox through OWA. I have no problems browsing the web site the link is on but after I input my credentials for access it will just sit there and try to access. I go to the servers Task Manager and the CPU column for inetinfo.exe is running anywhere from 14 - 30 or so and no other requests are able to be serviced. If I kill the Inetinfo.exe process I can then restart IIS services and everything works fine for a while. I have fought this battle for awhile starting on NT 4.0 and IIS 4 with OWA 5.5 and now With 2000 and IIS5. I can't find anything on Support that helps. Thanks in advance. Tag: Session Tag: 324593

    - Tracking down memory leak on 2 servers I have 3 servers that are very similar in their software components. All 3 are running Windows 2000 Server, IIS and Exchange. 2 of the 3 servers are experiencing a growth of INETINFO Private Bytes over a period of a week or 2 that renders the server completely unresponsive. I'm hoping all you brilliant folks out there can help me with some ideas of where to start looking to fix this. The 2 problem servers are running: -Windows 2000 Server - all updates installed -IIS -CA eTrust Antivirus 7.0 with the Exchange option -BackupAssist - backup scheduling program that simply uses NTBackup to do the actual work -GFI MailEssentials for anti-spam Both servers were running Exchange 2000 and exhibiting this problem; one was upgraded to Exchange 2003 and one was reinstalled with Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 from the ground up. They both still exhibit this problem. As an example, over the course of a week, upon a fresh reboot, INETINFO private bytes goes from 30,000,000 (30 megs) to 245,000,000 (245 megs). The 3rd server just had Norton Corporate AV replaced with eTrust, so I guess I'll watch it and see if that sparks this issue there as well. I just installed all updates for eTrust on one of the servers as well to see if that resolves the problem. Beyond that, I'm stumped, though. Any thoughts? Any way I can "crack open" INETINFO and see what component inside it is taking all the memory? I'm leaning toward GFI MailEssentials, and may disable it temporarily as a test.     - Default document always called We have just noticed a behaviour in IIS5 which no-one here was aware of, and which seems to be contrary to what most people expected. This is that the default document gets called regardless of whether a full url is specified or not. We stumbled across this whilst running a sql profiler trace whilst calling various pages in our application and noticed that stored procedures were gettnig called that were only called from our default page. Obviously this was affecting performance across the whole application. So for instance if our default document is set to default.aspx and our url is http://test.com/app/dosomething.aspx then default.aspx is called before dosomething.aspx Is it supposed to behave like this?     - Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' Hi, I have windows 2000 server with IIS and I program ASP. I use the string: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=basedatos.mdb;" to data base Access and it always works ok. But I installed the Panda BusinesSecure Antivirus and since then I have had a lot of problems. First, windows didn't start in normal way, I only could start in Security Mode, so I tried uninstall Panda Antivirus but in security mode I couldn't becouse in this mode the Windows Installer doesn't work. So I had to delete Panda Antivirus deleting the folder and the register entries. When finally I could start windows 2000 in normal way I realized that none of my ASP pages works acceding to database Access. All of them show the following error: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' I tried to re install Access and IIS again, I installed the SP3 for w2000 server, JET 4.0 from Microsoft download pages. I revised permissions access to files and folders and I saw like before problems. All users, including Internet Users (IUSR_), have all permissions. I have other Visual Basic Programs that use the same string "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=basedatos.mdb;" and it works, only in ASP / IIS is failing I have no idea how solve this problem. I want to extend it but when a put a number greater than 10, I warning appears saying that I will be vilation license agreements.     - Move IIS to new W2K3 Here is my scenario: I have 2 DC's one is the E2K on W2K and the other one run Microsoft Navision on W2K. My target is to replace all server with new hardware. I just migrated my win2k E2K to a new hardware with win2k3 and E2K3 as a member server, my old E2K server was a DC which I am going to retire soon, but before I do so and run DCPROMO to demoted I need to migrate the IIS settings to another new DC that I just installed and DCPROMO as a DC of the existing domain, I am going to use this DC to replace the Navision server DC. The old E2K server has all the settings for the IIS that I need for my Citrix Nfuse website. My questions are: 1.can I migrate the IIS settings to the new WIN2K3 DC without loosing any information? my new DC will have a different computer name, but I will keep the same IP address. 2. after transfering the IIS to the new box can I then demote that server and put if off line? 3.     - IIS 6.0 Isapi problem (works in IIS 5.0) I have an ISAPI application which works on IIS 5.0. On 6.0 I get the following behavior. I can build the DLL, start the IIS Service, and Browse the application from IIS Admin (or IE). If I restart IIS from the Service control panel and then go to browse, the first time I attempt to browse I get an access violation in the dll. If a do a refresh (from IIS Admin or IE), then the dll will come up and I can view the site.     - best practice for new server farm Lets say I have all my web services in a separate project in VS.NET. And by referencing them in a particular web application, the dll's get automatically put into the bin directory. I know that some people split the web services off onto a separate box. I'm anticipating a lot more hits to our current box. How is this best done -- I mean, the dll's are in the bin directory automatically. If I delete them, how is the web application going to know to look for them on another box. Also, lets say if I have a server farm of 3 IIS boxes, and then create a 4th IIS box for the web services, am I buying anything in terms of performance, since anyways the 3 are going thru the bottleneck of 1 component server (web services) box, in order to hit the database. Is the folder set as an Application in the IIS MMC?

I've seen this happen when the host name has a dash "-" or a underscore "_"
