Hi IIS gurus,

I'm trying to learn ASP.NET, so I installed Windows 2003 Server. Visual
studio.NET is installed on a new workstation.

The ASP.NET book I'm working from goes through setting up a virtual
directory and adding a subweb. It actually describes how to do it on a
workstation, but I figured it would be the same on a server. I can
successfully create a virtual directory, but I don't seem to be able to
create a subweb. I'm trying to do this on the server so I can access it from
any workstation.

According to the book, I right-click on the Default Website, select New -->
Server Extensions 2002 Web. (Funny, I thought I was using 2003.) Anyway, I
get prompted to login, which I do as domain admin, give it a password, and
bingo, the [Create a Subweb] page appears. I enter the name of the subweb
(the same name as the virtual directory), and am prompted to login again. I
do this using the domain admin account (as before), but it will not accept
the login, saying I don't have sufficient permissions.

Frontpage 2002 Server Extensions are installed, but I am not able to check
them. On the [Check Server Health] page (which I logged into using the
domain admin account), I tick all the checkboxes to test and repair, click
OK... and nothing happens.

Recalculating the web seems to complete OK.

Any help you can offer will be gratefully accepted. :-)

Regards,
Graham

Graham,

Probably a dumb question, but did you make sure your
domain admin account is a member of the local
administrators group on your server?
