I'm confused.
I have a web page that is currently running on an Apache server with
FrontPage extensions enabled. It works like a champ. I can clamp down on
security for various subwebs without a problem.
Because FrontPage Extensions are no longer supported, I'm having to look
into migrating the web pages to our Windows 2003 EE server. I can load the
web site in IIS and specfiy the network card and port I want to use without a
problem.
The pages appear correctly, but I'm concerned about security.
How can I get the same functionality in IIS that I currently get with
FrontPage Extensions? I thought there might be some way to do this through
SharePoint Services, but I can't find a way to do it.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

FPSE2002 ships with Windows Server 2003. You can install them via Add/Remove
Programs. There is then a Sharepoint Administration site link in your
Administrative Tools folder. You can use that to configure FPSE, including
setting permissions etc.

Cheers

Is using unsupported software the only answer? I suspect the unsupported
FrontPage extensions are just as unsupported under Windows 2003 EE as on the
Apache server. If this is the case, I can see no benefit in changing
platforms.

This doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm not sure what you mean by "unsupported". FPSE2002 is supported on
Windows Server 2003 EE

FrontPage was discontinued last summer (2006) as a supported product. It is
my understanding that FrontPage Extensions are no longer supported either.
You cannot download FrontPage extensions any longer. Microsoft will no
longer create patches for them. You can install FrontPage Extensions from
your 2003 EE disk, but why would you want to run with a unsupported product?

Running on an unsupported product makes no sense to me at all.

Hi,

FPSE 2002 as a standalone product is no longer supported. That is why you
can not download it anymore.

There will still be patches for it (that is my understanding from
discussions with relevant MVPs and Microsoft staff) *if* you are running it
on Windows Server 2003 (at least until a replacement comes out).

Cheers
