    - IIS 6.0 ASP.NET and Security... Sorry, this seems to be talked about to death, but I can't see the problem... I just moved my web site onto our production server and now I'm getting 401.3 errors (log shows 401 3 5). It must have something to do with ASP.NET (old web was FP only) and directory permissions. If I set file permissions, it seems to come up OK (no images, but...) I've changed the Anonymous user to an administrator ID and it works fine. I've checked the folder permissions and they all appear to be OK (list, read, execute).     - IIS forgets settings after cluster switch Hello, I have an IIS living on a cluster here. After a move from one node to another the "Authentication Methods" settings are lost. So I think we need to restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service so that the changes in the Global.asa will take effect.     - Authentication errors using Mail service on 2003 std I added the e-mail server role to my server. and put in my domain and set up a few test users but I have a problem when I go to use the accounts. I'm using outlook express as my mail client and it says the server is rejecting the password. I've tripple checked to make shure I got the usernames and password right, still that's the error i get. So it's obvsly finding the server, but it's not loging in correctly. I don't have active directory installed, I did have IIS installed and running a webpage before I installed the e-mail. and I'm using the "Local Windows Accounts" as my Authentication method.     - IIS and File Replication Hi, I am currently creating/testing a small web farm consisting of two Win2k3 Standard Servers that will hopefully end up hosting services to a number of small to medium-sized websites for clients. (probably a hundred or so - there are no sites that are overly strenuous on bandwidth or resources.) Both servers are AD DCs running mirrored IIS configurations (metabases synced using IIsCnfg.vbs), NLB to provide load balancing and a DFS/replicated "Domains" folder of all the content/logs of the websites. I have a few questions for anyone that has maybe set up a configuration like this? (Advice and hints would be very much welcomed too!) 1) Is it really good idea to replicate IIS log files? Would the replication service be able to handle the potential problems of two different log files on each server as visitors hit each one? (The servers are connected over a local 1Gbit connection - there are two NICs in each server, one for NLB one for general local network traffic) Stats generated from these log files are essential for analysis so this definitely needs to be implemented somehow. 2) Network load balancing includes the affinity setting - we have a number of classic ASP web apps using Session variables that could have issues with a web farm environment. Is the affinity setting (in Single mode) in NLB reliable enough to keep a web user sticky to their initial server for a reasonable amount of time? 3) Performance-wise! What are other people's thoughts/ideas for this implementation? I have read a number of white papers and documentation available and it appears that the above solution is going in the right direction for what we want to achieve? Many thanks, Regards, Stewart.     - IIS 6.0 Event 1074 Hi, Iâ??m using win server 2003 and IIS 6.0, C# 1.1 When I check in my Event View under system, I see this Information Log: A worker process with process id of 'xxx' serving application pool â??xxxâ?? has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit. Source: W3SVC Event: 1074 I have my Recycle Worker Processes (in minutes) to recycle every 120 min and process in 35000. It seems like, almost every 2 hours I get this Information log, and it also seem like my session states starts over too. Why do I get this Information log almost every 2 hours and not every 2 hours? And when I see this, is this bad? What does this log file really mean? And should I change my settings to have IIS recycle more often or even change my code in my aspx page. I had to turn off Enable Rapid-fail Protection, I was getting page could not displayed.     - handling different EXE files differently - one should execute, one download Hello, I'm trying to configure IIS on Windows Server 2003 to allow one EXE to execute on the server, and then all others download. Any ideas? I've tried turning off Execute Scripts & Executables...and then enabling a Web Service extension, and having a MIME type of application/octet-streaming for the EXE, but then it just tries to download the EXE that I need to execute.     - images not viewable I work for a middle size bank. We recently got some new software that allows us to scan the documents and store them electronically. We use a win2003 server to house this software, and at first we only bought 5 license. We are trying to use a feature of it and that is to be able to browse the scanned documents using Internet Explorer. It works fine as long as you have an account on that server. The images will not show (show up as a red X) if you don't have an account. I have added the anonymous user to the security of the folder and it still doesn't work.     - Mixed Authentication question Hi all, can someone confirm this: If you start an HTTP session from IE by going to an NTLM protected page, then switch to anonymous pages, then IE thinks all requests should be NTLM and it will not send the POST body on the first try. Presently only allocated a single IP and it's already in use.....so....can I just makle a Virtual Directory uder the default website and have this work? I have it in dns as networkstatus.mydomain.com 209.x.x.x I would like users just to have to type use this URL <http://networkstatus.mydomain.com>and have the page pop up. What do I need to do??     - multiple sites after sharepoint install iis Hi I was wondering how or if you can create an another site in IIS after you install sharepoint on standard server 2003. When I try to set up another site no matter what i do i am always getting page cannot be display. I've checked everything i can think of. I know it can be done Small business server alows it. also is it possible to install sharepoint to another site other than the "Default web site". I've tried using different ports, filters, and headers, nothing. when i stop the "default web site" i still cant look at antything. Checking the managed paths in "central administrator" that only applies to folders within the directory not other sites.     - moving webs I'm running win2k and front page 2k. The system has placed all my webs in a folder, inetpub, on the root of C: I'd like to move them all to another drive. It is as simply as just moving the inetpub folder? And when I create new webs, or edit the existing ones, I want them to go to the new drive.     - Creating a folder gives error. Hi All, I am trying to access a website as a webfolder. Once the page gets loaded i try to create a new folder so the folder gets created but it somehow tries to create the same folder twice and gives and error "cannot create folder with name "new folder 2". folder exists. What is want to know is why is it trying to create the same folder twice? Why is the request getting submitted twice. On this server I already have a url redirector. Hope someone could help me.     - Can't connect to web after 1 day I host my own mail and web. If I run the ICEW I can connect to my server from outside of the domain for about 24 hours then suddenly i get a blank page (no specific error number) and the title bar of IE says that the page cannot be displayed. If I then re-run the ICEW, it will then run for about another 24 hours before happening again. However Internally it always works. I have Broadband with a router and static IP. My ISP setup the Domain Settings for me to point to my IP and so forth. I told them what I wanted and what various things were and a couple of days time, I was told that the work was completed, and at no cost.     - how to generate client certificates I want to generate client certs (not server certs) so that employees working from home can access an extranet that checks the certs (in asp.net) before giving access. 1) How? The client (at someone's home - across the public internet) can't point to localhost. Are you supposed to do that from the server machine to itself to generate the cert? I've just installed url rewrite isapi to one of my website on a dedicated server which was using front-page extensions lovely with visual studio 2003. As soon as I install the filter, I get the following- Visual studio has detected that the specified Web server is not running asp.net 1.1, you're knackered, random error finished (or something to that effect) As soon as I remove the filter, everything is fine? Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a workaround so I can continue standard development and use the filter also.     - dllhost.exe taking more %Processor time Hi, I have a COM+ DLL being called from an ASP page. The COM+ DLL is running in the context of dllhost.exe under the username IWAM_TEST. After some time its taking around >90% of the CPU time. To isolate the problem, i wrote a stub DLL(that doesnt do any processing), but even then after some it's taking more CPU time.     - IIS on SBS 2003 not responding I am running into a strange problem with my SBS 2003 server. Everything runs fine for about a month but after that time for some strange reason IIS stops serving pages. And by serving pages I mean everything that has anything to do with IIS stops responding. The Share Point website, any websites that I have created, OWA the Backup logs in the Server manager are not displayed, the Monitoring and Reporting pages are not displayed nothing returns a page (I get the "Page can not be displayed" error page). The strange part about my problem is that the server is not logging ANY errors, when I check the running services all the necessary services seem to be working fine. I can restart the IIS service just fine but nothing works until I reboot the whole server. After the reboot everything works just fine for the next month or so and then the problem comes back. When the service stopped responding again I tried to stop the Word Wide Web Publishing service and then telnet to port 80 from the server, it would come back with a "Could not open a connection to the host..." error message after starting the service again it would just give me a black screen with a cursor. As soon as I pressed the Enter key it would drop me back to the prompt. When the server is running correctly and I try the same thing the IIS server returns the HTTP/1.1 Bad Request header. I am not running URL-scan or anything like it. If you need more info please ask away, I don't even know where to start looking since it's not giving me any errors at all.     - IIS 5.0 Event Log Errors I am maintaining 6000+ web sites and have a question regarding the following error logged in the system event log. The servers are W2k SP4. Event ID: 101, Source: W3SVC The server was unable to add the virtual root '' for the directory '\\UNC\html\com\domain\host' due to the following error: The network BIOS command limit has been reached. The data is the error code. There is a KB that address this discussing an unrelated matter but the solution has no effect for me. Note that the doc root is a UNC share (the example above is just that) and there are many websites. They all work fine but this error bothers me.     - New problem with 2k3, SP1? Running IIS6, Windows 2003 sp1. Tri-NIC'd server, Nic #1 = LAN addy (lan gateway) Nic #2 = WAN addy (website A) Nic #3 = WAN addy (website B) In RRAS, 0.0.0.0 is routed through Nic #2. Everything was working prior to installing SP1. Now, the website B on Nic #3 will not respond. From a remote location I can ping Nic #3, but I get "server could not be found" in the browser. Website A is still working fine. Checked RRAS, restarted IIS. Everything's ok - port 80 is open on both Nics, both websites are running. Interesting part is, from this remote location if I establish a VPN to the server (VPN connects to Nic #2), website B magically begins to respond while the VPN is up. Disconnect the VPN, website B quits responding. Website A is meanwhile unaffected and continues to work either way. This seems like a RRAS issue to me maybe, but I'm not sure - it was working before, and my RRAS config, Nics, IP addresses, firewall - nothing changed. This started after installing SP1. Any ideas? I have Enable Direct Metabase Edit checked, so rule that out.

When I do edit the xml file in notepad and try to save it it will not
let me save the changes. It seems to be locked. I can use an unlocker
program, http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/, to unlock it from
inetinfo.exe. I can then save it. Whether the changes are implemented
I am not sure.

Any ideas
