    - Authentication Problem in IIS6 Hi I have an application hosted in IIS6, Win2003 server. It is supposed to work as an extension to MSCRM. Both MSCRM application and my app is set to the same application pool. Windows authentication is used to login. The user should log in to crm using window authentication and then should able to access my custom pages. The problem is when i login into mscrm using windows authentication, i can access all the links related to crm. But the moment i click on the link to my custom pages, it asks for windows authentication again. I dont know why this happens. Previously this application was deployed in IIS5 and it worked fine. Once logged in it wouldnt ask for login till the browser is closed. I tried various things like syncing time of the Webserver with DC, since someone had suggested that this might be cause, due to kerberos issue. But did not workout. Anyone any clue how this can be solved, so that as soon i as log into to the first app it does not ask again for authentication clicking to the second link.     - Content from Inherited dll Not Appearing in ASP.NET Site Under IIS6 I have recently migrated from IIS5 to IIS6, and am having a few problems setting up a number of ASP.Net sites. All static sites, and most ASP.Net are working fine, but there are a few which are not, each of which have something particular in common, which is that they all have their main content generated by an external compiled dll. In other words, I have a compiled dll which has in it base page classes from which the client application's pages inherit, providing general markup for such as a page header, menu, footer etc. The inherited pages define their own content, which is then combined at runtimw with that of the base page. Under IIS5 this was working fine, however under IIS6 none of the content which is generated by the base classes is rendered to the page - only the markup explicitely declared in the child, inherited pages is shown. No errors are shown (permissions, file access etc.), the content is just missing. Is there anything I need to know about inheriting from external dlls in this way in IIS6, or are there any general dll restrictions that need removing? Any help would be gratefully received.     - IIS6 Only Serves ASP.Net Locally - Please Help IIS Gurus!! It is matters I'm trying to get a DotNetNuke site up. Followed instructions to the letter. Works GREAT on the server but wont serve to the network or internet. If I hit the server from a network machine it redirects to the localmachines site. From workstation Keyed URL: http://servername/DotNetNuke/ Resolves to http://localhost/DotNetNuke/ Page can not be found But it will serve static pages and content fine.     - Two replicated websites I used to have only one Windows 2000 + IIS server in my intranet with lots of ISAPI and ASP applications. As my LAN grew up, I bougth two W2k3 + IIS servers. The idea is keep this two websites replicated. I installed Network Load Balancing and my questions are about replication. When I have to updated them I guess I'll need to: 1) Drainstop SERVER A (NLB command to finish current actitives and stop working), so B will handle all new traffic. When A it's ready, update web server files, obviously unloading all ISAPI applications first. When I'm done start it again 2) Drainstop SERVER B. A receives all new connections with its updated files. Update servers files in B. Start it again. So, my questions: a) Is it correct the way I'm supposed to handle replication? b) Is there any application to help me automate this tasks?     - IIS6 not logging Authenticated Usernames Hi, A part of our website is password protected. People need to create accounts in order to gain access to the secured website. The username is email. After the user logs in a session cookie is created. On each secured page a check is made for session cookie. If this session cookie exists then a user is allowed to view secured page, if not they are redirected to login page. In IIS 6, I checked â??extended propertiesâ?? of W3C Extension Log File Format and noticed that all the fields have been selected (including cs-username), but when I look at the log files I see this field showing dashes (-) meaning IIS 6 is not login usernames.     - Port blocking senario I have a web server(webcam server) running on my home network. I would like to be able to view webcam from at work. My service provider blocks port 80 inbound. The company I work for has ONLY port 80 open. Is there some solution to this problem? Is there some webhosting or redirection solution for this problem?     - IIS 6.0 - Enabling printing I have set up an Intranet based application(written in ASP) on Server1, using IIS 6.0 as its web server. The application needs to use the organisations printers to print reports. All of the printers are attached to a print server. I added the printers to Server1 and attached to the application.     - Setting up a secure site Hi, I need to setup a secure site. I checked with some CAs and they told me that the certificate would apply to a whole site, but what I am interested in doing is securing only a section of the server. I checked on MS Tech Net and found how to create new sites. I think I can only have it by either a distinct ip address/port combination or by name. What I would like to have is this: http://www.mydomain.com https://www.mydomain.com My question is. If I issue a certificate for www.mydomain.com, will that give me the result I want? or will I end up with my entire site secure (ie I can only use https://www.mydomain.com)?     - COM+ Crashes Hi, I have an application running in production on Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2000 (clustered). The app server is hosting my COM+ dll which is being called by ASP 3 pages. Its an Intranet application. What happens is: suddenly users get themselves out of the system and unable to get back because it throws the error: "Connection cannot be used to perform this operation. It is either closed or Invalid in this context". Now this error occurs when you try to use the database connection which is closed. And if the connection is closed, even then it should not be closed for all the users and even for new requests it should issue open a connection if its closed. Its not frequent error and happens twice this month in 15 days. The only solution to this problem is going to COM+ Applications and shutdown then Restart the dll. As its a production server so its not easy to repeat the process. I have reviewed the event logs and nothing suspisous has been found except everytime first Secli Surity Policy applied event is found and after that application stops bahaving in this fashion.     - Content-disposition: attachment header in IIS6 not working with IE6 Hi We've got an ASP.NET application which writes file output directly to the Response stream. It uses the content-disposition attachment header to force the browser to display a "Save/Open" dialog for known mime-types. When running in IIS5 on Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Professional (i.e. our development PCs) and using IE6 this works fine. When deployed to a Windows 2003 server running IIS6, and accessing the page using IE6, it all goes wrong. Instead of the specified filename, the name of the aspx page is given, along with all the usual warnings about script etc. (Accessing the page with Mozilla Firefox works fine.) I created a test application which reproduces this behaviour, and noticed something even stranger: when I open a new browser window and enter the URL, I get the bug behaviour. If I click cancel, and then press enter to load the page again, it works fine.     - How to log error in the IIS 6 web server errror logs Hi All, Can anyone please tell me the mechanism to log an errror in the standard IIS 6 error log files created under "C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\HTTPERR" . I am working on ISAPI extension and the design of my program is such that I open my own log file inside HttpExtensionProc only when first request comes in. Before this function gets called there are many activites taking place in the code which I would like to print them in the log.     - Re: Help using CustomAuth and .aspx login page Hi, I am using the cutomAuth to login the user to sharepoint. I am able to launch the logon page(Standard and Custom).But whenever i tries to send the credential for authentication the request goes to http://<myserver>/Logon.And HTTP 404 File not found response appears. I have also tried by using the custom page for login placing in virtual directory sp1 but same result File Not Found for http://<myserver>/sp1/Logon. Unable to find how /Logon will authenticate.     - Programmatically configure settings in IIS Could somebody please point me in the right direction? I need to install IIS on a number of boxes and configure the same initiall settings on each box. For example: -I need to verify that certain users exist in certain local user groups; if not they need to be added -I need to create a new logal group and populate that group with a list of users -Set connection timeout; set keep alives; set logging on/off -Create a custon http header -Delete/add filters -Delete/create virtual directories -etc. Are there any good code examples out there?     - CGI Problem on MS IIS 5.0 - Trying to access files on other machines Greetings, I'm working on a CGI program that will run under MS IIS 5.0 and will browse folders on three other machines, building HTML pages that will provide links to these folders. Essentially, the CGI will connect to each machine in turn, doing the FindFirst/FindNext process based on the current criteria. It will select certain files/folders, and build an HTML page as it goes. The premise is fine. If I run the program from the command line, it seems to work fine and I get my HTML code out. I can copy the code into a separate file, open it in the browser, and all appears right with the world. However, when I try to run the CGI from the browser itself, I get all kinds of problems. The first one I got was a 1312, "A specified logon session does not exist. It may have already been terminated." After doing some searching, I began to investigate impersonation of a logged on user. This produces a different error: 1314, "A required privilege is not held by the client." I'm not sure if there are additional alterations that need to be done to the security policies or not. Again, I'm not a guru.     - "HTTP/1.1 New Application Failed" win2003 I've been getting this error message "HTTP/1.1 New Application Failed" on IIS 6.0 when trying to call up an asp page. The page was working earlier. I suspect it has something to do with resetting the default website. The reason I think this is that I found a cryptic comment about this being one possible cause of the error and it is in fact something I'd just done -- reset the default website.     - Programmatic Installation for IIS??? I'm writing an application that will run on top of IIS and I'd like my installer to be able to verify that IIS is running on the server, and, if not, get it installed and started. Is it possible to validate and, if needed, install and start IIS on a system (assuming it's at least XP Pro and likely either 2KServer or 2K3Server)? I've searched through the MSDN and can't find any reference to a way to get it up and running via any mechanism other than what Windows provides through Add/Remote Programs. Thanks for the help!     - Append 403 Error I would like to create a custom html error page to be returned when a plain 403 is encountered. (IIS 6) I can modify the 403.x pages, but I need to modify the general 403 error for users who have "show friendly error messages" enabled on their browsers.     - web page not reflecting the latest images Hi, I have created a aspx page with some image files on it (jpeg). After replacing the image files with new images, the web page is not getting updatetd. i.e. it is still showing the old images. I have cleared the temporary internet files folder and even history on my browser. I have even reset the IIS and restarted the machine several times, still the new images are not getting displayed. sometimes the new images are displayed but sometimes the old ones are getting displayed. This problem is also happening only in case where i am accessing the site via a proxy server. when i am using an ISDN line the page is updated and all the images are new. I should also mention, that i have accessed the site via two different proxy servers and it gave similar problem.     - session ends unexpected Hi, I have the following problem. I run a webapplication that is using sessionstate. Users have to logon, logout and get a message if there session is abandoned because of no action for a configured time. Sometimes (more and more often) users get the logoff-message much before the configured time (probably because the session is abandoned by the server). But they can re-login then and use all the functionality. The time the logoff-message comes is very different. Sometimes everything is ok and the user can work until the regular session end. Inside the webapplicaton are .asp-files (sites I made before asp.net). There are also some .aspx-files, but I don't think that is the problem. I run an II6 under Win Server 2003. I tried the following until yet. My hypothesis was, that it has to do with application pool configuration. So I configured the application pool for refreshing every night at 2:00. I unchecked the options for refreshing after minutes or requests. But it did not help. I also tried to configure the IIS to use the II5 isolation mode. But it also did not help. The X50 has the capability to be associated to ONLY ONE external IP address (argh...). I can easily forward all incoming PORT 80 traffic to either one of the web servers. However, I need to be able to forward SOME incoming traffic to Web Server #1, and SOME incoming traffic to Web Server #2. Of course, this would be determined by the host header information. That works fine on one of my IIS6 servers. However, the exact same code has stopped working on another server.     - CPU 100% - Part2(IISState) At the moment I'm trying everything possible to find out what's pushing my CPU load up to 100%. Whenever I restart the WWW Publishing Service the load is immediately down to 0%, but right after it started up again and 20+ people are surfing the site it goes up again to 60% and then sometime stuck at 100%. Then, it appears a page for the user to log on. The username and password are checked in a SQL Server database. But if I brose the web by typing the ip address of the server, http://192.168.0.1/website1, then, everythings runs ok. I can't understand this.     - WSUS SUS and internet printing I'm having trouble getting internet printing to work on my servers that are running WSUS and were running SUS. For whatever reason the page will just not load giving me an HTTP 500 Internal Server error. I am running the WSUS website off of port 80 and the Default Website for internet printing on port 81. I actually installed internet printing on a server that didn't previously have WSUS on it, and the process worked fine, one thing I did notice was that afterwards a folder was created in the Default Website's Directory w/ the name of the printer, there are no properties and there is no phsyical folder for it in thewwwroot folder either. I tried to duplicate the folder and the syntax of the redirection on it by creating my own on the non-working wsus server to no avail. I also checked the setting backwards and front by comparing the working server to the non working one in the inetmgr and everything was set the same. I've also tried disabling the WSUS website - did not work. I've also tried putting the default website back to port 80 - did not work. Access is set to anonymous allowed. There are no domain restrictions or certificate requirements either. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Btw, this is on a Windows 2003 Server w/ SP1. Now I attempted to set up the same wiki on Windows Server 2003. There were no problems at all installing PHP 5.0.5 on IIS 6.0 and phpMyAdmin runs fine. MediaWiki 1.3.11 installs and runs, but depending on the browser used to access the wiki, different things happen: - Internet Explorer 6.0 can display the wiki's main page, when any link is clicked, a blank page is shown - Firefox 1.05 can read the whole wiki, but whenever one tries to submit changes, the wiki acts as if the preview button was clicked. I don't think it's database related as I'm assuming SQL is getting passed an invalid account or something, which points to IIS (or our code!)     - asp.net iis5 404 login.aspx All, Windows xp pro box with vs 2003 and .net 1.1 installed and iis5. Downloaded a project from source safe via vpn to my ome pc to work from home. I have three other projects on my pc that works fine with the vpn. This one, however, is being a bugger. Every time I start it, I get a 404 error stating login.aspx is not found. However, there is no login.aspx file in the entire project *nor* should there ever be. The project is using forms authentication, however, the log in form is showed via a web user control and all pages are shown in a single page with a panel. Any how, point being, this project works fine on my work pc with no login.aspx page and my home pc has the *exact* files, folder structures, checked all files in source safe, all are there. This has to be an iis quark. The url it shows to the login.aspx page it is expecting is not even a complete url -- it doesn't start with http at all. Just /folder/folder/folder/login.aspx. It is like it is trying to find a cookie and cannot and tries to redirect me to some built in functionality of IIS or .net to some blasted login.aspx page. Again, this project works fine on my work pc. I was shocked to even find this behavior since the other three projects work fine. I did run the aspnet_regiis.exe with the -i option to reset it and make certain it was lined up with asp.net. I've been trying to find this issue for over 8 hours now with no luck. Is there anyone out there that can help? Other things I've checked: 1. web.config is exact to what is in source safe and on work pc 2. project is in configuration of debug 3. the project folder structure is lined up 4. all system requirements are in place such as third party dll files oracle 10g client etc. 5. have default.aspx set to start page 6. traced code line by line with break points and it gets past all code and then it pulls up the login.aspx 404 error rather than the log in page that should display. again, the setup is exact to my work pc. What in God's name is causing this login.aspx file to try to be found and not the real web page to load? It has to be something to do with the cookie and asp.net not finding it or something? I dunno. On my work computer it all works fine regardless if cookie is there or deleted etc. Can anyone help? This has set me back 8 hours on this project and I am not happy!     - IIS6 + Active Directory Domain + Username/Password signon Hello there, I want to host a 'amazon' style extranet ... by this I mean that I want a username/password protected website, that will ultimately use Active Directory to store user accounts and passwords in. However, I don't want the usual NTLM challenge to be displayed by IIS when users are at the 'sign on' page - I want a 'enter user ID here:' and a password field on a nicely designed webpage. I also want the ability to offer users of the extranet a password reset style form in the event that they forget their passwords... whilst still tied in to Active Directory backend.... I also want to store email addresses within the directory....? Is anyone aware if a third party product that exists that achieves the above? IE address is http://<comptername>/susadmin

Do I have to configure the IIS?

I have not setup this but maybe check the Directory Permissions for the
susadmin folder to make sure anonymous is turned off in the IIS Manager

Hi Peter,

Couple of options, turn on failed object access auditing to see if there is
any directory permissions as Chris mentioned. I personally setup this a few
times and had no issues, this is another newsgroup that also handles SUS and
WSUS. microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services
