    - Could Not Load Type IIS 5.1 XP Pro ASP.NET BASIC Settings PLEASE !! This New Company I'm with Sets their Default WebSite to a local Directory on "D" Yea I've been down the whole route reinstalling XP Pro,,, IIS 5.1 The .NET framework everything. Now I'm just frustrated... What the Heck !! Theres a web project (C# ASP.net) in the solution containing many many some odd 19 or so projects. MSVSS is additionally in the picture to make things a little more complex. (I.E. the non wen projects go elsewhere on the D drive) All I'm asking for here are the BASIC Settings to get my DEV environment and my IE to "SEE" this D:\Web folder as Localhost. It worked for a sec. A very brief second. Then it was Gone. Specific ERROR: Could not load type 'ram.web.Global'. Parser Error Server Error in '/' Application.     - Debugging IIS 6 Asserts I'm running IIS 6 on a Windows Server 2003 box. When I attach the Visual Studio .Net debugger to the w3wp process I can step through my C++ code until I hit an ATLASSERT(<false>) statement. F10 at the ATLASSERT statement seems to hang the process (the debugger says running, but the browser is not responsive) and the assert dialog box cannot be seen. F11 into the ATLASSERT seems to indicate that the process is in the c runtime debug (MSVCRTD.DLL!_CrtDbgReport). The web site is running under the DefaultAppPool where I've set the Identity to run as Local System. I've also set the the World Wide Web Publishing Service to Log On as the Local System Account and to Allow service to interact with the desktop.     - HELP!!!! Fresh install of XP Pro but IIS 5.1 won't run. Hello All, IIS used to work fine but then I rebuilt my machine with XP Pro (2002). I thought some setting were altered by installing Baseline Security Analyser or perhaps the IIS lockdown tool. Today I've given up, and reinstalled XP Pro (2002). I then installed IIS and all the sub-components. I can do a iisreset /restart and ping localhost but that's it. When I nav to //localhost or /localhost/iishelp I get the following error message: The page cannot be displayed HTTP 500 - Internal server error Internet Explorer Like I say the machine has just been rebuilt from scratch.     - ISS - virtual server has been deleted from this machine... The below error is killing me... I deleted the original IIS vhost and created my own...     - .ASP files Give 404 Page Not Found I'm trying to configure IIS on a Windows 2003 Server box. In the process of trying to debug this problem I've created two identical files which contain the absolute minimum HTML (they just display "FOO" on the screen). One I have named with a ".htm" extension, the other with a ".asp" extension. The .htm version opens just fine. The .asp version gives me the 404 error. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.     - AppPool using domain account for identity - "Service Unavailable" I have been trying to move our web apps into their own AppPool so we can run it under a specific domain account and hit our DB servers. Whenever I change the identity of the AppPool to "DOMAIN\MyUserAccount" I get the infamous "Service Unavailable" page with the following event log entries: ----------------------------------------------- (the events occured in this order - from earliest -> most recent) Event ID: 1021 Description: The identity of application pool, 'TestAppPool' is invalid. If it remains invalid when the first request for the application pool is processed, the application pool will be disabled. The data field contains the error number. Event ID: 1057 Description: The identity of application pool 'TestAppPool' is invalid, so the World Wide Web Publishing Service can not create a worker process to serve the application pool. Therefore, the application pool has been disabled. Event Type: Error Event ID: 1059 Description: A failure was encountered while launching the process serving application pool 'TestAppPool' . The application pool has been disabled. ------------------------------------------- I have attempted to do everything stated by other sites but still no success: This is what I have configured so far: 1.     - Cannot upload larger files to Win2003 Problem: Cannot upload larger files to server Environment: Wind 2003 Server + IIS6 + ASP I can easily upload files less than 200KB. But Files larger than 200KB, fails/hangs my applicaiton.... I would like to make changes to IIS Configuration only for my website and not overall IIS configuration setting.. Is there a way !!!!     - Moving an ASP web site We have an ASP web site done with VB.NET. This website is also checked into SourceSafe. Now we need to move/copy this web site over to a different IIS server - a QA and/or Production server. I am not sure exactly how to do this.... Is there a 'copy' utililty anywhere in .NET or IIS? Do we copy it manually (which files, then)? Do we need to first create a virtual directory and then copy the files from the old directory/server to the new one? Or just copy the whole virtual directory? And I would assume that the SourceSafe entries should still be pointed at the development server, since that is where we will be doing development coding??     - IIS SMTP Hi there. This is driving me insane. I wonder if anyone can help? (Google Groups 2 doesn't seem to list microsoft.public.inetserver.iis.nntp_smtp). I have a Win2003 box. I've put some .NET apps on there which do various things including sending the occasional email. I'm trying to use the IIS SMTP server. Sending to certain (most) addresses fails and the event viewer shows: --> The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'RCPT'. The response from the remote server is '504 <S52546>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname <--- Although now I must have change domsething as the mail just seems to be sitting in the \inetpub\mailroot\queue folder and not going anywhere... If I telnet to the local SMTP server on port 25 and create a mail via SMTP commands, the message goes okay. Hmmm... thinking about it now, I'm guessing it's something to do with the way ASP.NET is talking to the SMTP server. It's probabyl identifying itself as just the machine name which isn't a "fully qualified hostname". Maybe I'll go check the dotnet groups. Anyone have any advice? My ISP have suggested that maybe I install and use http://mailenable.com instead. Does anyone have any experience with this or think it's a good/bad idea? I'm finding it really hard to find any decent documentation/info on the IIS SMTP server.     - problem connecting/recognising remote DSN Hi folks, I'm currently trying to develop some Intranet applications but having some trouble. I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004 for development of the application while using Windows Server 2003 IIS6 as my web server. This is my client's server and they have enabled a remote desktop connection for me. I am able to publish pages to the web server but I cannot connect to the remote system DSN that I have created. Within DW I get the following error: HTTP Error Code 401 Unauthorized From what I've googled it seems to be an issue with permission settings but I'm not sure what I should do to remedy the situation. When I enter the DSN manually, it appears to connect but my database appears to have no tables and I know that's not the case. Can anyone assist a desparate guy?     - http vs https issue This is a strange one and I hope the answer is obvious to someone. I have a windows service talking to a webservice on the same box. If I enable https only access for the webservice I get 404 errors but when I set it to allow http all is well. Accessing the webservice externally (ie from another machine) when https only is enabled is also okay.     - dllhost How does one go about troubleshooting dllhost.exe performance problems? We have a development box where dllhost.exe once or twice a day skyrockets to 100% cpu utilization. If we restart IIS, it goes away. dllhost.exe is the host for COM / Dcom objects as I understand it. And we do have quite a few custom objects/classes/dlls we're using.     - Troubleshooting ASP.Net Application Pools on IIS6 I have several sites running on Windows 2003 Server in true IIS 6 mode with Application pools. One site has about 9 Virtual Directories in it that are all configured to run as applications. Each of these have a dedicated application pool with all different memory settings in the Memory Recycling area. The applications are all .Net based applications. They are all pretty frequently used apps and as a rule of thumb, we assigned more memory in the app pools to the busier sites and less to the least busy sites. Here's the deal. Every once in a while, the application will hang up and not respond. Once I recycle the application, it's fine. I don't really get a whole lot of info from the developers other than "The site is hung up" The only thing I see is stuff like this in the eventlog. This is fine because I have set the share permissions so that the user does not belong to any groups that have access to the share.     - IIS 6.0 Windows 2003 Hangs Hi There We running few internal classic applications on the webserver running IIS 6.0 on windows 2003. The web server hangs on average 1-2 times every single day. When it hangs it servers no ASP pages and the requests keep timing out. After the service is restarted all works fine.     - IIS / DNS Windows 2003 On an intranet Win2003 server, I have a website in IIS (port 80). I have also added a DNS entry www.xyz.com. On the server, I am now able, to access the websites' homepage, through the DNS in Internet Explorer Trying to access the DNS in Internet Explorer from any other machine, it does not work.     - Multi site question Investigating possible architecture for an ASP.NET web solution. I am familiar with the architecture of two multi-site systems. Neither are by any means ideal. One is pure Classic ASP and the other is Classic ASP + VB6 DLLs. Pure ASP: This utilised a complete copy of the ASP code set for each customers' site. Mixed ASP + VB6 DLLs: This utilised a separate site for each customer's site that contained a single ASP page. This page simply called a public function in a common DLL which returned an HTML string. The DLL knew how to format the page based on the referral URL containing the ASP page. Now, what about an ASP.NET solution? I'd obviously like to centralise all common code, and to this extent it's obvious that I'd centralise the business and data tiers. However, I'm assuming that I'd have to put all the ASPX pages (UI) in each dealer's site, despite the fact that many of these will be identical. As I understand it, a webgarden is physically one box with multiple processors in it. In the MSDN documentation about webgardens they mention : "If webGarden is set to true, by default, all CPUs are enabled and ASP.NET starts one process for each CPU" Ok.. So this means that when I have a box with 2 processors it will actually create a worker process for every CPU. Does this mean that this box will have 2 sessions to manage? I know there is MSSQL and StateServer to store session in 1 place and share them accross CPU's but I would rather use the InProc equivalent on this box, just to make sure that there is only one session created that spans the 2 CPUs.     - IIS 6.0 - ASP pages stop responding/time out Hi, I am having some really strange problems with my webservers. I am running a website on 2 win 2003/IIS 6 webservers behind a loadbalancer, with an sqlserver db backend. These sites are not under a lot of stress, if I check the Requests Current performance counter is usually 0, sometimes 1 and maximum 2. Anonymous requests per seconds has an average of 0.5 Sometimes however one the servers freezes up. There are 3 syptoms for this freezing: a) pages get very slow, but they do finish. b) pages get so slow they exceed the request time out, an error is thrown, I have configured a custom error page in the web.config in the defaultRedirect attribute of the customErrors element, and this is shown c)response is immediate, but the standard error page is shown, stating that CustomErrors setting is preventing details to be viewed I guess you know the page. And my Current requests counter rises to 30 or 40 or so. If b occurs I get an error in my logifiles because I catch all errors in the Global.on_error event. If c occurs there is no error in my log, so the request is never arriving at my web application but gets killed before it gets there I guess, thats why my custom error page doesn't get shown, I guess. Only errors I find are in the httperr.log around the same time these things occur. Some errors have reason Connection_Dropped and some have Timer_EntityBody, which seems to be related to uplocading large files, but I get this with a very simple aspx page, where nothing is happpening but showing some messages in the correct langauge, from memory. I am already busy with installing .net framework sp1.1 hoping that this helps, but it is really just a wild guess. Anybody got any more suggestions/ideas? I needed a test DC for another task, so yesterday I ran DCPROMO on the server. Everything went fine, except now I can't access any of the IIS sites. When I try, I get a login box and after that an 401.1 error. After testing a bit, I found out that I can access the default website from a browser on the server using http://localhost. But when I enter http://servername or any of the dns names that was working before, I get the authentication box. Even http://127.0.0.1 doesn't work...     - IIS6/COM+ and Session After much troubleshooting, I have gotten a legacy site which is a heavy user of COM+ objects stored in Session to run under Windows Server 2003... for the most part. The current show stopper is this: - ASP calls COM_A which creates a reference to COM_B which is in the session object - COM_A calls some methods in COM_B which inserts a record into a database - COM_A calls the property of COM_B which contains the ID of the record just inserted When writing a log of the ID property from within COM_B, the log has the correct value and the record has been inserted into the database. What COM_A gets, however, when it references the ID property of COM_B is is the initial value for ID which COM_B had when it was retrieved from Session. Although the work is being done, the reference is static, it can't access the new information. This is a legacy app which means I really don't want to re-write it to eliminate the COM+ in session problem, but I have to get this moved to a WS2003 system.     - iis6 application compression Hello all, We just upgraded our web servers to iis 6.0. We have a few websites being accessed by our employees on a daily basis. All run SSL. The pages are a bit chunky and during peak times the performance is sloww. Web pages take forever to load and users are getting frustrated. I dont think it is CPU because I have been monitoring it and it has never exceeded 50%. We also have 2 servers in NLB. I am looking into turning on application compression so that the pages get compressed before they get sent to the browser and wanted to get some feedback from some users on the positives and negatives. 1. How efficient is the algorithm? What is the avg reduction in file size. 50%? 2. Has anyone experienced any known issues? Especially with SSL. 3. Alright, I just set up POP3 and STMP on a Win2k3 Server machine, and everything looked like it went just fine. The problem is, I can't login to the POP3 or STMP server with any mail client I've tried. I know the uname/pass are correct, and I've tried different security settings, but the result stays the same. I have it set to use local accounts as mailboxes. Can someone steer me in the right direction to get this working, please?

Perhaps a firewall? Have you looked at the logs? Try testing SMTP
