I am self-hosting a small website. My setup is:

Hardware: Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz with 512 RAM
Windows XP Pro w/Service Pack 1
IIS V5.1 is installed and operating

I am Using FrontPage2003- and I am currently publishing
the web site http://localhost

I would like to get the webpage published to another drive
on my computer - Drive H. This is a parition on my master
hard drive.

I have spent some time in the FP Users Group and I set up
a subweb, called gradyweb, under the default web. And in
the subweb, I set the Home Directory to either
H:\gradyweb, or http://localhost/gradyweb. In neither case
does FP accept the path as a valid remote directory. I get
an error message: You can not convert a
virtual directory into a subweb remotely.

So I guess my question is: Is it possible to host a
website from a position other than c:/intepub/wwwroot?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

By default, the Inet Pub directory is installed by IIS on the C drive.
Unless it's on the other drive, it isn't going to work, especially since IIS
on WinXP Pro only supports one root web site.

You could simpy copy all of your contents from c:\inetpub\wwroot to a
directory of choice on the other drive and set the homedirectory of the
default web site to point here. It shouldn't be a problem if you set the
premissions of the new folder correctly.

Thanks for replying, Eric...

You corrextly say: "...if you set the
>premissions of the new folder correctly." The problem
appears in publishing FP to the remote web. In order to
publish using FP extensions, I must choose the first
option "Frontpage or Sharepoint Services". After choosing
this option, I am requitred to provide a http:// address.
When publishing to the default C:\intepub\wwwroot, I can
use http://localhost.

How do I point the http:// at at H:\intepub/wwwroot?

You can point the default site (http://loclahos) to H:\intepub\wwwroot by
simply changing the path on the HomeDirectory tab when you go to the
properties on the default web site.
One thing that I'm not really sure of is if you'll have to redo the fpse on
the site but if you have copied the entire directory from its former
location I don't think it will be necessary.

After doing this, http://localhost will point to H:\inetpub\wwwroot and any
subweb will point to a directory blow this.

Once again I hope I've understood your question correctly.

Erik

Thanks for replying, again....
That is what I used to do, but I ran into some problems
with my page counter being stiuck at one, so I was told to
use the TOP option in Publish To Remote Site, "Frontpage
or Sharepoint Services-The Remote Web Server supports
FrontPage extensions". What I think you are suggesting,
and what I used to do, is to use the BOTTOM option, "File
System- Use a folder on your computer, or on a etwork, as
your Remote Web Site."

Maybe it will work now that I haave copied the entire
c:\intepub\wwwroot to H:\intepub\wwwroot. Before I just
had the webpage sitting there.

What do you think?

Thanks
