    - IIS rewrites my URL's Hello I have a Windows 2003 Server with IIS. I make a virtual directory with the name tp_static, and try the following URL: http://srv003/tp_static It works, but IIS encodes it to http://srv003/tp%5Fstatic/ This way, I run into problems using cookies & paths, and besides that, it looks very ugly.     - restarting website logging in iis 6 After installing IIS 6 I changed the logging folder to a different drive, whereupon logging stopped. Trying to restart it, I tried stopping and starting the server; and then rebooting, to no avail. How do I re-engage logging? Any suggestions, instructions, or pointers would be appreciated.     - IIS6 Cluster ASP.net Page Locking I am having a problem with an asp.net app on a W2K3 2 node cluster. We are using a some page locking which works on our standalone W2K3 servers, but doesn't work on the cluster AppOverview: When a lockable web-page is accessed an ID for the page is added to the Application Variable which is of type ArrayList. Thus if the pageID is already in the ArrayList when the page is accessed then user is automatically redirected away from the locked page. The Application variables are declared in the Global.asax file. This scheme works on a single box however on the cluster the page locks don't appear. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.     - IIS 6.0 and FTP Problems I am a newbie with Windows 2003 Server. Although I have used NT 4.0 and W2K server editions previously. I have just installed Windows 2003 Server (standard edition). In using this as our (IIS 6.0) Web Server, I have installed WFTPD Server, for our users to upload their web sites. I can "ping" this web server all day. But the I cannot "login" onto the web server using my FTP account. The "error message" just states "Login failure". I am not receiving much help from the software maker about this problem.     - SSL option not available on IIS 5 Windows 2000 server with IIS 5. All patches installed. Many different domains using host headers. 4 sites using IP and SSL. Problem: Added a new IP to the server. IIS can see the IP and its an option when adding domain. (The domain we want to use SSL for is currently using host headers so we removed it.) Setting up the same domain using an IP instead of host header but the SSL option is not available.     - IIS 5.0 - how to detect possible memory leak Hi, I run two servers with windows 2000 server, i had some problem with them for some time. In the older one, 2xPIII 933 with 512Mb ram with near 500 sites all .ASP and use database in SQL2000(on other server) recently with 2 new sites that are "portals"(have many visitors) started to have use of much memory randomly, and many times uses all swap file and windows tries to increase it and server stays too slow for some period of time. Some sites that use access database started to give an error, out of system resource, but when i isolated access sites they work ok but uses to much memory. then i isolated the portals and put access sites in pool mode, the errors on access sites stopped since then. I noticed that one of the portal is the one that uses tons of memory time to time. I looked into task manger process viewer and looking at dllhost.exe (i had 3 dllhosts.exe, one of the pool sites with 400-500 sites and other 2 from the two sites in isolated mode): The sites in pool mode only use 60-80Mb of RAM and one of the portal uses randomly tons of memory: uses Memory usage: 10-40Mb VM size: sometimes near 2GB!!!!! and stay using this memory for some time. In event viewer i noticed when not in isolated mode that a warning saying "out of process..." appear time to time related to the site that now is in isolated mode and uses tons of memory. I looked what warning say W3SVCXX, where XX is a number that identify the site and its one of the portals. Since i isolated the two sites, even when they use tons of memory above 2GB(VMemory size)server works ok and not slow. The database is only near 30Mb size. I think its not normal a site/portal uses so much memory, due the database its small. Im not the programer of the sites, but im trying to help the programers know what can be. Any help in how to detect that use of tons of memory will be appreciated. Another thing, if i "reset" the webserver(IIS) when using that tons of memory, when it starts again(few seconds after) the portal dont start to use right away tons of memory.     - Newsgroup migration We are having problems Migrating / rebuilding our Newsgroups from a Windows 2000 server onto a Windows 2003 server. If we were migrating to another Windows 2k server we would copy the newsgroup files and `rebuild` the newsgroups within IIS, pointing IIS to the files. When we try this on the Windows 2003 server we get the following error and no newsgroups appear. `The service cannot accept control messages at this time â??     - Name Resolution within IIS Not sure if this is an IIS problem or otherwise. Have got an Innvision Power Board (Bulletin board software) up and running on an intranet running on IIS 6.0 on Server 2003. Problem is when users VPN into the site they cannot resolve the name of the server. Have other intranet web sites which are accesible via the direct IP address and this works fine (they are running on Apache) Can access the login page via the IP address but alas after the login it redirects to the machine name instead of the IP address and a DNS error occurs. Have added the IP address of the machine into the hosts file on the local machine and also as the Domain Controller into the LMHOSTS (It is the PDC) Am presently playing around trying to work out the DNS issues (They default to use their ISP's DNS once they dial up to the internet) but perhaps if IIS is resolving the IP to the name then maybe I can switch this off and should be able to access the other pages via the IP address.     - URLScan RejectResponseURL Hi all, My company is having a problem with URLScan and it's ability to customize an errorpage. URLScan.ini has been modyfied with the following row: RejectResponseURL=/URLScanError.aspx The file URLScanError.aspx is in the root of the website in question. However, the file isn't loaded when URLScan rejects a request. The page that appears is the IIS "action cancelled" error page.     - Problem with a virtual directory Hi everybody I'm trying to make a virtual directory in Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.0. I make the virtual directory in the Default Web Site and it does not give any problem. But I can't browse the files. The server returns a 404 file not found error when I try to open a file in the Internet Explorer.     - IIS5 crashing/hanging, appreciate analysis of IISState log We are running W2K, fully patched and updated, ColdFusion5 updated, and IIS5. Two days ago the IIS service intermittently stopped responding. The service appeared to be running, but could not be stop/started; the machine had to be rebooted. We are now getting perhaps fifteen minutes uptime between hangs, and this situation is intolerable. I have tried running IISState -p <pid> -d -sc but the service stopped and no log was written.     - IIS 5 SMTP wont send mail Okay I usually do not have a problem with SMTP but I cannot get this server to send mail. Here is the setup: Small home network 1 Domain Server running Windows 2000 Server and Active Directory, No DNS 1 Windows 2000 Server (web server) 1 2Wire DSL/Wireless Network Modem/Firewall 1 Dynamic IP (using No-Ip to mimic Static IP) points to 2Wire Modem Firewall routes all SMTP and web requests to Web Server. I have several small gaming websites going to this server with No-IP urls (that look somethig like this name.servebeer.com) which need to be able to just simple emails. Okay I have setup my Firewall to allow SMTP both ways. I have my Default SMTP setup as follows: General:IP Address is setup to Server Port 25 Access: Anonymous Access,Basic Authentication,Windows Security Package Connection Control: All except list below Relay: All except list below ** will adjust these to to just this computer once it is working. Delivery Advanced: Masquerade Domain - None Fully-Qualified domain Name - not sure what to put on this one? Security: Administrators only operators. I do not get any errors when using simple CDONTS test page but it just sits in the Queue and thats it. The log does not seem to give me any helpful information either the event log has the following error: "Message delivery to the remote domain 'gmail.com' failed for the following reason: An internal DNS error caused a failure to find the remote server." Bad Request (Invalid Hostname) help needed Here's my setup... - iis 6.0 on a 2003 server - iis box local ip is 192.168.2.167 - laptop i'm connecting/working from 192.168.2.165 - test site set up in wwwroot/test dierctory - 127.0.0.1/test/ gives me above error - 192.168.2.167/test from laptop gives me error - my public ip of http://***.***.***.***/test/ gives me error I have a static ip that I have NAT'd/allow'd port 80 to my .167 box (iis) I downloaded and ran wfetch but do not know what I am looking for (kinda new at iis admin...) i cannot ping my public ip, but my .167 from my iis box does reply. I made my iis box a member of a workgroup. The laptop that I am working/testing from is a member of a domain that is the same name as my iis workgroup name. Things did work before I made my iis box a member of a workgroup. Thanks all!     - XP pro and IIS 5.1, getting started??? I have installed 5.1 IIS on my XP pro box. What does the default page look like when I type in the address in Internet Explorer?? I have yet to create a page to host, but I see what looks like a default setup in the wwwroot folder. Is it the "Page cannot be displayed"? I do I know if I have it set up correctly? If I type in http://localhost I get an IIS intro page, which seems right, but if I plug in the www address I get the page cannot be displayed.     - problems programmatically creating website on IIS6 I picked up some code to create a website in c# via ADSI from the following site: http://weblogs.asp.net/jezell/archive/2003/09/17/27869.aspx I've created a console app that runs this code on the webserver. (though eventually I'll convert it into a web page to automatically create sites) It appears to create the site fine. After I create it I convert it into a sharepoint site. - Although the conversion is successful, I keep getting "access is denied" when I try to access the site. (even after entering the credentials of the box administrator) The problem is somewhere in the code that creates the original website - because if I create the orginal site with the IISWeb.VBS script (or manually), then convert it to a Sharepoint site, it works fine. When I compare the metabase entries for a site I create with my C# code and a site I create with IISWeb.vbs or manually, I see one obvious difference: The site created with IISWeb.vbs has an <IIsFilters> entry that looks like this: <IIsFilters Location ="/LM/W3SVC/278012028/filters" AdminACL="a really, really long hex number..." FilterLoadOrder="" > The entry related to the site created with my C# looks similar (different site ID) but it doesn't have the "AdminACL" entry. I have a hunch this is the cause of my authentication problem because after I convert a site created with my C# to sharepoint, IIS Admin shows the ISAPI filter "stsfltr" has a status and priority of "unknown" Any help or suggestions would be appreciated - I've been looking at this for a couple days now.     - 3rd Party Web Sites Connect to Server 2 Images We're running Win2K Server. We want to allow web sites to link to images on our web server, but we don't want that server's cpu to be utilized to deliver the images. A separate server on the same network, Server 2, will have an images folder for delivery to these 3rd party web sites. A link on the 3rd party site will refer to the image directory on Server 2, while the web server will handle image requests on the site itself. I want Server 2 to have an images folder that contains the same files as the image folder on the web server. When a new image is created on the web server, we need those images to automatically be available in the images folder on Server 2. I've created a shortcut from Server 2 to the images folder on the web server. The folder shows a current list of available images on the web server. However, I am concerned that this shortcut will still use CPU power on the web server since the images are not physically located on Server 2. Will the shortcut from Server 2 to the web server use web server CPU resources? How can I create a directory on Server 2 that will automatically update with new files from the web server, but not use CPU resources on the web server when the image files are requested from 3rd party web sites?     - Problem with IIS and mobile application A few words about our environment. We have a 30 mobile devices accessing a sql database through web service over wireless network. The problem is that sometimes when a client calls a web service it has to wait few minutes to get a result. And sometimes client never gets the result. In IIS log we found that about 80 times per day IIS returns error 400 with win32-status 64, and time taken is sometimes 15 ms and sometimes few minutes. Timeout for web service is set on 5s and for sql too. All that is maybe result of another problem. 50% of packets received by a device is in wireless statistics reported as "IN errors". And sometimes there is more packets "IN errors" then successfully received. But those numbers are completely different when we connect device on AC power. Then only few packets are "IN errors" (20 out of 1000). We also tried to use some other devices like ipaq and notebook with wireless card. And those devices always report 0 packets "IN errors". IIS is version 6 on Windows Server 2003, mobile devices are Psion 7535 and access points are Cisco. Is there some setting on IIS that should be set? Could there be problem with multiuser access? The problem is - there is no rule for such a behaviour, sometimes response is quick, sometimes it's slow, sometimes there is no response. With last two cases users always have to wait long before some response from server, eventhough timeout is set to 5 seconds. Any suggestions? If it does install and reboot, when i try to open it I get mmc.exe added to my task manager (and numerous if I try and open it more than once) Any idas on a fix, it's starting to annoy me.     - IIS DNS and sessions variables Hello, I've got an issue with an intranet site hosted on a 2k3 server. This site is only accessible on a private network It has been configured as a virtual directory of the default web site. If the users access the site by using the server name and web site name (http://theserver/thesite/), everything is running fine. But for some reasons this client has the use to create DNS aliases of all its servers for user access. Then the users have to use the alias name to access the intranet ( http://theserveralias/thesite/) the DNS redirects the queries on the right adress. But In this case the value of my session variables is never changed, they keep the one they got in the global.asa. If I update the value in a page, I don't got any errors but in the next one, my variable has lost it ... Of course I can't redevelop the whole site, this is not my only client, and it's working fine for all the others. Can someone give me some help to make it work with this configuration ?     - IIS on SBS 2003 behind COX Cable... I'm testing the external website functionality of SBS 2003 for my small business. I would like to play with the functionality that SBS 2003 provides in IIS. I have the default website up and running and configured to my external LAN Card. I"m pointing the default website to that IP address and have it configured for port 80. I know that COX blocks port 80, however I am able to to see the website from inside my network (I"m using a netgear router). When I switch the website to use port 81 and try to get to my website it stops working? I"m using the port forwarding feature of my Netgear wireless router. I've also set the port code of my external facing LAN card to the DMZ. Still does not work. It seems like IIS doesn't recognize port 81 as a valid HTTP port? We're running into situations in which users outside our firewall are sending HTTP requests in sufficient volume to cause our site to become unavailable. Typically, they're requesting the same ASP file over and over again. We also have a third-party CGI application that talks to a service running on our web server. If they call the CGI application repeatedly, after about 45 minutes the service is about 300MB (it's supposed to be about 6MB), and our server quits serving pages until the service is restarted. It's easy enought to block the attackers at the firewall after we've observed the attacks, however I'd prefer to prevent them when possible. Unfortunately, our firewall doesn't have any tools for automatically detecing and blocking new attacks. What tools are people using to detect and block HTTP hammering attacks?     - IIS on windows 2000 Pro I have a small website I want to make available to my group at work running off a desktop with Win 2000 Pro. I don;t know if it's possible, but I want to configure it to only allow certain userids on the domain .the domain is rather large, but I just want to allow my group to access the site from their desktops and block out the rest of the domain.     - yet another permision problem....... I am running iis 5.1 on windows xp pro and I was trying to setup a wiki application (perspective, writen in asp.net) for testing. I've set up the environment properly by following the official installation guide and I successfully opened the default start page of the wiki app in the broswer. When I tried to created a new wiki entry, it throws following exception: Problem creating H:\Inetpub\wwwroot\perspective\collections\sandbox.col\newpage.page System.Exception: Problem creating H:\Inetpub\wwwroot\perspective\collections\sandbox.col\newpage.page (the exact error was followed by some stack trace information, i just copied the first two lines of the whole exception for simplicity)Luckly, the official installation trouble shooting documented this problem as it says the wiki installation directory doesn't have the 'write' access right. I then included the 'write' access right into the folder's default access rights both in iis mananger(in control panel) and by right click on the folder,select 'property', uncheck the 'read only' option. Unluckly, that didn' t work for me. What's more interesting is that when I check the folder's default access right again by right click on the folder and then select 'property',it turns out that the 'read only' option had been turned on automatically, although I have already unchecked it one minute ago. If I unckeck it, it would just change back again automatically and this circle just keeps repeating.
