    - Max Download Size I have a directory in IIS 5.1 (Windows XP) that contains 2 files. One being about 50 MB and the other 3+ GB. I have tuned on directory browsing and tried to download each file from another computer on the same network. I can download the smaller file just fine, but the larger will not even try. If do a Save Target As, I get: "Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site..." in a dialog box. If I click the link, I get an HTTP 500 error. Both files are in the same directory with the same permissions. Is there a maximum file size built into IIS? If so, can I adjust this? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - IISADMPWD Hello All When I am attempting to change a domain account using IISADMPWD utility, after I type all of the information in: Domain, username, old password, new password etc. and then hit the ok button the url entered into the browser is HTTPS as opposed to HTTP. I dont have SSL enabled for this yet as I am just experimenting. How do I get the utility to use plain old HTTP instead? I get the following error after hitting the OK button The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. Is this to do with the application wanting to use SSL?     - IISADMPWD - Newbie Question! Hello All I am trying to find a solution to enable some of my customers to perform a password reset of their AD account via my website. Basically they use a WSS3.0 team site and WSS3.0 has not been deployed in account creation mode which means you dont get a password reset option within WSS. I have been looking into the IISADMPWD utility which I can link to via my website to enable AD password changes from my website for external users.     - SSL No Longer Works when Existing Certificate is Installed I have a seemingly simple issue that I cannot figure out. I am running a website using IIS 6 with an SQL Server 2000 backend on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Using the SelfSSL tool that is part of the IIS 6 Resource Kit I am able to generate a self-signing ssl certificate without issue. I am also able to use several older certificates that either coorespond to older systems or to a previous instance of the said server. When I attempt to install a valid certificate issued by Thawte the SSL portion of the website stops responding altogether. I keep getting "Connection Interrupted" or similar messages from clients connecting to the website. I have restarted the server everytime I installed a certificate to attempt to see if there was an conflict with an item resident in memory. Is there anything that I have not looked at or need to do?     - Ajax POST - HTTP Status 12031 Error? I have a web application (Classic ASP and VB COM+) that makes Ajax (using Microsoft.XMLHTTP) calls to ASP/COM+ that submits form data (ultimately to a database) and then returns an HTML fragment and inserts it into a specific <DIV> on a web page. This code has worked for three years without a hitch, and in fact, worked flawlessly until two days ago. One of my customers (with dozens of users from one institution) started receiving error messages from my Javascript Ajax functions (one below) that indicated a status code of 12031 (Internet connection reset error). They are all using IE 6.0 with XP. Different users at that institution had the same error, but to my knowledge none of my other customers or their users outside that institution had any problems and I could not recreate the errors on my machine accessing the web application (I only use one server for the entire country). And then yesterday, there were no errors at all from that place (it may have been a busier day the day before). So, what exactly does this status code mean? Is this a client or server problem? Is it a network problem? Mine or theirs? Does it have anything to do with firewalls or security settings at the institution where the problems occurred? What can I do to track down or diagnose this issue and resolve it? IIS6 says is secure by default, so it makes me leery changing from default, plus its is just more admin work to maintain across servers.     - Help needed understanding IIS user Windows Server R2, machine webserver1 I have an asp page that uses the filesystem object to create directories and files on a network share. It does this by using the UNC path, e.g. \\myfileserver\share\pfolder\prj1125 When I attempt to execute this page, what user does myfileserver "see" is trying to create the folder.     - IIS 5.1 not recognizing character 2 (%) in .aspx startup page Hi Folks, I thought this was an easy problem. New laptop. Windows XP. Visual Studio 2005. Developing web sites. Things working fine while in Visual Studio. IDE runs sites and lets me debug just fine. I have even published the sites to test server where someone else is handling the IIS stuff and programs are accessible on the web as desired. But when I go to IIS back on my laptop, set up virtual directory and try to browse to site, I get error that second character in page directive at top of start up page unrecognized. If I browse to simple hello.html in inetpub/wwwroot, no problem. I was thinking iis not recognizing .aspx pages correctly so I ran aspnet_regiis i and r for the version of asp.net that I'm using. This has helped in previous stalemates, but this time, no luck. I also went to addremoveprograms and made sure IIS and all its subdetails are installed, but no luck. Ideas sought. If I had an other one like it for development I would test it there and not be asking this question. The microsoft website does not say. My problem: I have been given a project that is to run on a Win2000 server which is happly running ISS 5.0 and ASP.net 1.1 websites. Both ASP.net 1.1 and 2.0 frameworks are installed, and in the properties page for each website has the ASP.net tab with the both frameworks available in the drop down. My understanding is IIS 5.0 can run ASP.net 2.0 web apps, but can not run both. IE It can not Website A runs 1.1 Website B runs 1.1 Website C runs 2.0 They all must be 1.1 or 2.0 but not a mix. Browsers vary. Does seem to be network specific. Have one user on a work network that can reproduce (using multiple browsers Mac, IE, Firefox etc). He can take the same pc, browser combo home, plug into his home network and everything functions without an issue or error. User request HTTP POST to login or submit a form and eventually is returned a page cannot be displayed error. On the IIS logs we see 400 errors 400 0 64 In HTTPERR logs we see Timer_EntityBody errors. We have thousands of users using the app without any issues (affects approx .02% of users) We have experimented with various registry settings to disable MTU discovery, force MTU to 576 etc etc, but that has not helped.     - Help analysing a .NET 2.0 Webservice application Hi, We're runing a .NET 2.0 application on IIS 6, and from time to time it crashes in production, the problem isn't directly connected to a single machine (we have two machines runing the same code, and both crash) - however we haven't been able to understand the reason for the crash (though we do believe it is in our code) and also have been unable to reproduce it in the dev or test environment. We are currently runing IISDebugDiag on the server with the Crash Rule activated, however the reports generated by the tool are not really helping us (the app is managed code, and the analyser apparently doesn't know how to reach in to get meaningful information).     - IIS UNC NAS Hi, We have deployed a NAS (Windows 2003 Appliance) for our six front end windows webserver 2003 (32bit and 64bit) to serve as an image store. But every 2 to 3 hours under pressure all webserver are losing simultaneous thier connections to the NAS UNC Shares. There is no information in eventviewer or logfiles (NAS or WEB), only our monitoring software gives us the hint. Surfing to a website in this state producess a long wait till internet explorer starts rendering the startpage (especially images served from the NAS UNC share), thereafter everything seems fine for the next 2 to 3 hours. Did I missed something? Is there any possibility to get a better performance from the NAS?     - Shared hosting Hi all, I'm testing the new Windows 2008 Server with IIS7. The goal is to create a stable shared hosting platform. So far I managed to configure multiple websites with each an application pool. I also installed PHP5 to run as FastCGI. Now I'm running into some security problems: PHP scripts that are running in an application pool, can access all files from other application pools. This means that I probably should create a user for each website and only grant this specific user all priviliges to his wwwroot.     - Event ID 4006 / 4007 - The SMTP verb which caused the error is Hi, I'm experiencing problems with my w2k3 standard etd. IIS has been installed and several websites are running. There has been a virtual smtp server installed with relay access granted to a few ip adresses AND the localhost. Access has been given to everybody (anonomous). So, no mailserver has been installed on this server and i'm getting several messages in the eventlog. a few examples: Message delivery to the host 'xxxxxxxxxx' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'xxx.com' for the following reason: An SMTP protocol error occurred. The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'MAIL'. The response from the remote server is '451 4.1.8 Domain of sender address noreply@domain.com does not resolve.     - Webdav for iCal Sharing Hi, Quick question to the group. I'm responsible for sysadmin-ing a Windows 2000 box which runs Filemaker Server and IIS. I want to create a WebDAV section on IIS that will allow our Mac OS X network to publish and subscribe to calendars via iCal. I have correctly created a WebDAV site in IIS (which I can connect to) but iCal in Mac OS X requires authentication. My question: How do I go about setting a username and password for connection to the WebDAV site? My knowledge of IIS is very low, and would appreciate any pointers anyone can offer. As an aside, does anyone in the group have any experience of running CalDAV (http://ietf.osafoundation.org/caldav/index.html) under Apache on Windows 2000?     - IIS error log Hi I have some hardware loadbalancers feeding through to a web farm. They check every few seconds to see if the webservers are up by sendign a request and recieving a set reply. When I look up these requests in the IIS logs i get a strange message.. the status is 200 but the sc-win32-status = 121 and the time taken is very long. I have looked this up in google but only found very basic information. It states that the semaphore timeout has expired. Reading this I think the problem is that the loadbalancers are not telling the webservers that the connection has completed? Can someone tell me if there is any implications or effects on webserver performance? I take it that at very least IIS must be waiting (about 75sec) for the connection to close?     - IIS 6.0 on MSCS Cluster on Win Server 2003 machine I am facing a problem clustering IIS6.0 on two Windows Server 2003 machines in MSCS cluster. The issue is that my customer chose to put the IIS and SQL Server on the same box. Hence the SQL server 2005 is setup as a MSCS cluster on 2 windows server 2003 enterprise machines. Now he also wants to cluster the IIS 6.0 using the same MSCS cluster. Can this be done? Can anyone point me to a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this?     - IIS 5 and 6 Hello, I had IIS 5 installed on my machine and it was working fine. Then one day it simply stopped working. When I would use http://localhost/myapp which worked it would say it could not find the server. At the time I never messed with it because i wasn't doing any web development locally on my machine. Now I have Visual Studio 2003 and I need to develop a web app and start learning asp.net. The problem, of course is my iis 5. It's a dev machine on XP so I can't install IIS 6. I just need to IIS 5 to work again. So in an effort to fix the problem, I uninstalled IIS 5 and reinstalled it. Strangely it can't start the "service in a timely fashion." I've looked at the services installed and it's not installing the Word Wide Web publishing service (if that matters). So for now I've been racking my brain, combing the internet for a solution only to have no success at all. When I run the IIS 5 MMC snap in - it doesn't even show my computer's name. So I am stuck. The other idea I had is to use the IIS 6 server to by my web server but I am not sure how to set that up so VISUAL studio 2003 would allow my to write asp.net apps.     - Worker Process Per HTTP Session I have a new web service exposing a very virtual memory intensive service. I'm using IIS 7.0. Based on the virtual memory requirements, I cannot have more than a couple of sessions open before topping the 2GB virtual memory OS limitation per process, because all sessions are running through the same worker process.     - Authenticate if available, anonymous if not? Hey all, I'm running IIS 6.0. I'd like to have a page that, if a user is logged in, will have access to the username accessing the site. No problem, I can just set Authenticated access / Integrated Windows authentication. However, I'd also like for people who aren't logged in to have anonymous access to the site, too. No problem, I can also check the Enable anonymous access box and give it the local IUSR_ account. However, if I have both of these boxes checked, every access to my site is assumed to be anonymous, even if the user is an authenticated user. As long as I have that Enable anonymous access box checked, I can't get IIS to do any user validation.     - IFilter for modren PDF versions? It appears as though Adobe no longer supplies an IFilter for MS Internet Information Server (IIS). I quote from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2611: "Starting with Acrobat and Reader 7.0.5, iFilter functionality is now bundled within the Acrobat and Reader products" Apparently, the IFilter is not easy to locate as a self-contained package on Acrobat installation discs (I have Acro Professional 8). As far as I understand my research, you're supposed to install Acrobat on the computer in order to get the IFilter. I don't think that makes any sense for a server. Nobody's going to use Acrobat as such on my server, so I really don't want to install it. Is there a workaround somewhere? To get the latest PDF IFilter on the web server with minimum of software installation? I've looked at FoxIT's PDF IFilter, but it has a hefty price tag for servers, and they don't state what PDF version it's supporting.     - Windows Update Standalone Installer FAILS in Windows Server 2008 Hi, I was not able to successfully run the Update Standalone Installer 'Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu' which I downloaded from the download center of MSDN (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607). I am using Windows Server 2003 (x64 Edition) and IIS 6 to host two websites
(both of which have frontpage extensions and ASP.NET enabled). Here is the
problem that I am having, when I go to Visual Studio 2005 on my machine and
login using an administrator account, I can login fine no problem. However,
when someone of the Users group tries to login and edit the website, it
doesn't authenticate/allow them to login. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

First question - what are you using to edit the websites? FPSE?

If so, then use the Sharepoint Administration website (located in the Admin
Tools folder on the server) to permits the users that you want to be able to
edit pages the "Author" privilege
